Background on Maricopa, Arizona
Maricopa is located in the Gila River Valley in Arizona. The estimated population here is roughly 50,000 as of 2018. Maricopa is part of the Phoenix Metro Area. According to the United States Census Bureau, Maricopa is approximately 43 square miles in size with a very small portion of that being water. Maricopa did not become incorporated until 2003 making it the 88th incorporated city in Arizona. One of the most interesting things about this portion of Arizona is that between the years 2000 and 2010 the population went from just 1,040 to almost 44,000! That is a huge increase in just a decade. The climate here in Maricopa is categorized as a desert climate. What that means is that the summers here tend to be very, very hot and often times oppressive. The winters however tend to be mild to cool and dry. The coldest portion of the year here goes from November 21st until February 25th when the daily average high is a very comfortable 72 degrees. The low for this time of year is just about 40 degrees. The hot season here lasts from May 27th until September 19th when the daily average high is a staggering 97 degrees. The low for this time is just under 80 degrees. So sometimes the low for the hot season is close to the same as the high during the cold season. In Maricopa you will rarely see the weather dip below freezing or go above 111 degrees during the summer months. That last number does sound a bit high but Maricopa is in a desert climate so that is to be expected here.
