Katy, Texas is located in the Houston – Katy – Woodlands – Sugar Land Metro area. It is located within three counties, Harris, Fort Bend and Waller. If you find yourself in “Old Town Katy” you will find the actual land that was incorporated back in 1945. The boundaries for “Old Towne Katy” run South of Kingsland Boulevard and stretches across Interstate 10 all the way to Morton Road. In the “Greater Katy” area you will find communities like Pine Mill Ranch, Cinco Ranch, Greyson Lakes, Silver Ranch, Cane Island, Grand Lakes, Green Trails, Firethorne and Seven Meadows. There are also older communities here that were developed back in the 70’s and 80’s. Nottingham County and Memorial Parkway Kelliwood are the older, suburban developments from that time period. “Old Towne Katy” might have the word old in it but here you will find newer, more upscale developments such as The Enclave, The Falls at Green Meadows and Pin Oak Village. There is also development underway on the East border of Mary Joe Peckham Park. It is expected to be a residential community in the distant future. Additionally, there is also development for the highly anticipated Katy Boardwalk starting soon. There is a large focus here on the redevelopment of Downtown Katy. There are plans for a new City Hall Building as well as a a dedicated green space. That is only the short list of all the developments coming to Katy. There will be a water park, brand new YMCA, improvements to the roads, a stadium for the Katy Independent School District and a Modern Art Museum. Once this is all completed, Katy is going to be even more amazing than it already is!

The climate here in Katy is what is known as a humid subtropical climate. The summers are generally hot and humid whereas the winters are mild and sometimes very cool. The summer months can see temperatures somewhere in the mid 90’s on any given day. During the winters the temperature rarely falls below 30 degrees. An average day during the winter is somewhere in the mid 40’s.

Igloo Corporation is also headquartered in the unincorporated county of Waller. The largest employer in the area is BP America which has more than 5,500 employees. In 2017, Amazon announced that they would be building a 1 million square foot distribution center in Katy. The location can be found near the intersection of Highway 90 and Woods Road. This will not only boost the local economy, it will also employ several thousand people. Over time BP might fall to the second slot as the largest employer in Katy.
Education in Katy
The Katy Independent School District serves the youth of Katy, Texas. There are four elementary schools, two middle schools as well as four high schools. The main high school is Katy High School which is the oldest school in the area dating all the way back to 1898 when it was established. The Houston Community College System is the higher education found in Katy.
