McKinney is in Collin County, Texas. It is part of the Dallas – Fort Worth Metroplex area. This section of Texas is located approximately 32 miles from North Dallas. McKinney is just shy of 63 square miles in size. Things like corn, flour, cotton mills, cotton gins, cotton compress and a cottonseed oil mill were provided by the county seat to farmers to utilize on their farms. During this time churches, banks, schools and newspapers started popping up in McKinney. Then as time went on more businesses were started in this area such as an ice company, textile mill, dairy farm and even a garment manufacturing company. In 1848 the population here was just 35 but by the year 1912 the population grew tremendously to nearly 5,000. Then in the year 1953 the population here in McKinney grew to just over 10,000.
