Belleville is located in St. Clair County Illinois. The French meaning of Belleville (Belle Ville) is “Beautiful City.” According to a 2015 Census Bureau report, the population here at that time was just over 42,000. This makes Belleville the the eighth most populated city in the state. It is also the most populated city South of Springfield. Belleville is also the county seat of St. Clair County. This portion of Illinois is also the most populated city in the Metro East region of the St. Louis Metro Area as well as in Southern Illinois. Besides that, Belleville is the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Belleville as well as the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows.
