Port Richey is a very small, suburban city in Pasco County in the state of Florida. This community of less than 3,000 people is perfect for those who seek a place that is virtually devoid of all the hustle and bustle of a big city, even when you are not far away from such. It forms a part of the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area, a cosmopolitan and considerably varied region.

 

The establishment of this highly compact city is credited to Aaron M. Richey, who arrived from Missouri in the area close to the mouth of the Pithlachascotee River in 1883. In July 1884, he created a post office in his home. The municipality was incorporated as Port Richey in 1925. The original town name is older than that of New Port Richey, whose post office was established more than 30 years after that of Port Richey.

 

Covering less than three square miles, the City of Port Richey has somewhat unsurprisingly retained its small town flavor since its creation over 130 years ago. The population has remained small, growing from 1,931 in 1960 to 2,671. The city was estimated as having 2,761 residents as of 2015. Going by 2000 census data, the community appears to have higher number of older individuals, who are typically known to love living in small, safe and peaceful communities. The median age was calculated at 48 years. The cost of living in Port Richey is lower than the average for all cities in the United States.
