Englewood is a census-designated place (CDP) straddling both Charlotte and Sarasota counties on the Gulf Coast of Florida. Being a part of two counties, it falls into two metropolitan areas. The section in Charlotte County is part of the Punta Gorda Metropolitan Statistical Area, while the other portion in Sarasota County forms a part of the Bradenton-Sarasota-Venice Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Sarasota end is under the Englewood Community Redevelopment Area, a special district created in 1999.
The scenic community of Englewood had a population of almost 15,000 as of 2010. It had more than 8,000 households and 5,000 families as of 2000 census. There were about 10,500 housing units and the population density was put at 1,648 per square mile. Median household income in the CDP stood at $31,800 and per capita income was $23,462.
Englewood boasts of several public and private schools, mostly elementary schools. The community also hosts Lemon Bay High School. The nearest public middle school in the area is L.A. Ainger Middle School. The school districts in both Charlotte and Sarasota counties have an agreement in place that enables residents attend schools across counties.
The CDP has or provides easy access to many amazing natural beaches, including Englewood Beach, Stump Pass Beach, Manasota Beach and Blind Pass Beach. The most popular of this is arguably Englewood Beach, a pristine and uncrowded beach with great facilities to make your visit an exhilarating one every time. The beach has a playground, picnic tables, a boardwalk and barbecue grills among other facilities. There are restaurants and tourist shops in the area as well.
Blind Pass Beach, which is also called Middle Beach, can be found north of Englewood Beach. This is one wonderful place for finding shark’s teeth. It features natural trails with sand dunes and mangroves. Manasota Beach, which is also located north of the CDP in Sarasota County, is also a great beach worth checking out, particularly if you are someone that desires a beach with a no-smoking policy. You virtually have generous options when it comes to where to seek outdoor fun in the community.
The Englewood area also has several parks where you can go and have fun with your family. Some of the most notable of these parks include Cedar Point Environmental Park, Lemon Bay Park and Nature Center, and Ann Dever Memorial Regional Park. Fishing, canoeing and kayaking are some of the activities on offer at these parks. You may be lucky to have some companies give you a tour on their boats. A tour of Lemon Bay is especially recommended as this can give you opportunity of sighting different types of aquatic animals, including dolphins and manatees.
