Bonita Springs – Florida
Bonita Springs is in Lee County, Florida. Bonita is part of the Cape Coral-Fort Myers and Florida Metro area. You will find Bonita Springs on the Southwest Coast of Florida. The population in Bonita as of 2017 is just under 57,000. Nearly 39 percent of the population in Bonita Springs are 65 years or older. This age gap makes up the largest age group in Bonita. The major highways in Bonita Springs are Interstate 75, U.S Route 42 and Country Road 865 which is better known as Bonita Beach Road / Hickory Boulevard. There is also the Seminole Gulf Railway that runs through the city of Bonita Springs if you’re looking for a fast way to get from town to town without having to drive.
Bonita Springs is approximately 41 square miles and roughly 5.7 miles of that is made up of water. Bonita is located on the Gulf of Mexico as well as Estero Bay. Bonita Beach is located on a barrier island by the name of Little Hickory Island. This island lies between the Gulf of Mexico and Estero Bay. Estero Bay can be found of the west coast of Florida which is Southeast of Fort Myers Beach. This bay is very long and shallow and covers around 15 square miles.
The climate in Bonita Springs is generally hot and humid. The humidity here depends on the time of year. The warmest months are between May and October when the high is generally somewhere in the mid 90’s and the low is around 76 degrees. The winters are short and very mild making Bonita Springs the perfect place to vacation during the colder months on the east coast.
School Districts in Bonita Springs
The school districts in Bonita Springs falls under the district of Lee County. There are 50 elementary schools, 23 middle schools and 16 high schools. The district runs on an open enrollment system. Although there is a Bonita elementary, middle and high school available for students to attend, there is a lottery that students enter into to receive placement in these schools when space becomes available if the student limits have been exceeded. The graduation rate in Bonita is nearly 86 percent.

16 percent of the people working in Bonita work in retail whereas 12 percent work in administration. The biggest employers in Bonita Springs are the Lee County School District which employs 13,800 individuals and Lee Health which employs 13,600 people.
Things to do in Bonita Springs
The biggest attraction to living here in Bonita Springs is the easy access to the many local beaches.
-Bonita Beach Park- This beachfront park features sand dunes, coastal vegetation, a beautiful gazebo and even picnic areas. There is also a boardwalk and swimming area for you to enjoy.
-Little Hickory Island Beach Park- This beach is somewhat isolated which makes for a more private beach experience. There is a canoe/kayak launch as well as private bathrooms and the beautiful gulf to look out on when sitting on the beautiful white sand.
-Lovers Key State Park- This 712-acre state park can be found on Lover’s Key as well as three other barrier islands; Black Island, Inner and Long Key. This park falls within the city limits of Bonita Springs. It is North of Bonita Beach but uses a different zip code. There are so many things you can do here besides just soaking up the sun. You can do things like swim, canoe, kayak, hike, bike and picnic. There is also an area for you to do some wildlife viewing. Fun fact about Lovers Key State Park, this island was once so remote that the only people that would seek it out were lovers because of the privacy the island offered. Fast forward to today and the island is extremely easy to access, and you don’t even need a lover to visit this beach.
-Dog Park Beach – If you’re looking to include your pets in your beach fun then head on over to Dog Park Beach. Parking is always free but make sure to clean up after your pets to help keep this beach clean and safe for other animals.
Bonita Springs is beautiful place to live in the state of Florida. There are many local beaches and restaurants to visit here on any given day. Making the move to this beautiful tropical environment shouldn’t be a difficult decision!
