LaBelle is in Hendry County, Florida. It is also the county seat. The population here in the year 2000 was 4,210. Then at the 2010 census the population increased slightly to 4,640. As of 2016 the population here was just shy of 4,800. So the population here has increased at a fairly slow rate in recent years but is expected to increase slightly more by the next census. The city was named after Laura June Hendry and her sister Carrie Belle. These women were the daughters of Francis Asbury Hendry who was a pioneer cattleman, politician and officer in the Confederate States Army during the Civil War. If you were to look on a map you would see that LaBelle is located on the South side of the Caloosahatchee River. Florida State Road 80 passes right through the center of LaBelle. If you take this road East for 31 miles you will wind up in Clewiston. If you take this road West for 30 miles you will end up in Fort Myers.
