Located in the southern part of Florida, Palm Beach Gardens is a popular vacation city in northern Palm Beach County. The city has many things to make it attractive to both businesses and families. Palm Beach Gardens sits on a total area of about 55 square miles.

 

The city was founded by wealthy landowner John D. MacArthur who revealed in 1959 plans to develop 4,000 acres of land in the area to build homes for some 55,000 people. In the same year, Palm Beach Gardens was incorporated as a "paper town" – that is, one still existing just on paper. It was recorded as having a population of just one person in the 1960 census. Development work only began in the 1960s and the city gradually grew through the 1980s. The number of people living here jumped from 6,102 in 1970 to 14,407 in 1980. MacArthur originally wanted to name the city Palm Beach City, but his request was turned down by the state legislature as a result of the name's similarity to that of the neighboring city of Palm Beach.

 

Palm Beach Gardens had slightly less than 53,000 people as of 2015, which means the population hasn't yet reached the level envisioned by its founder. It is one of the U.S. cities with high number of college-educated residents. The proportion of adult individuals here with a minimum of a Bachelor's degree is more than twice the national average. As a result, many of the city residents are professionals and office workers. The per capita income of the people in Palm Beach Gardens was estimated at over $52,000 in 2015, with this considered wealthy not only in Florida, but also in the U.S.

 

Public primary and secondary education in Palm Beach Gardens is managed by the School District of Palm Beach County, which is a major employer in the area. High schools include William T. Dwyer High School and Palm Beach Gardens Community High School. A Palm Beach State College satellite campus, the Edward M. Eissey Campus, can also be found in the city.

 

Palm Beach Gardens is served by three interchanges on Interstate 95 - construction of a fourth at Central Boulevard is also being considered. It is also being served by another two interchanges on Florida's Turnpike. Public transit is provided in the city by PalmTran, a regional commuter bus system. There is a proposal by the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority to extend the Tri-Rail commuter rail system further north. The nearest airports include West Palm Beach, North Palm Beach County, and Lantana.

 

This city is a major destination for vacation with its warm climate and availability of year-round fun activities. It is conveniently located in the proximity of several beaches, parks and shopping centers. Championship golfing can be enjoyed at any of the 12 golf courses in Palm Beach Gardens, which is home to the headquarters of the Professional Golfers' Association of America.
