Coral Springs is a vibrant city located in northeastern Broward County, Florida. Officially known as the City of Coral Springs, the master-planned community is a major city in the Miami metropolitan area, which boasts total residents of more than six million as of 2015. It lies along the southern Atlantic coast of Florida and is bordered by Parkland, Coconut Creek, Margate, North Lauderdale, Tamarac and The Everglades. This is considered one of the best cities to live in the United States.
Coral Springs used to be a part of the 20,000 acres of marshy land bought by Henry Lyons in the early 1900s. Several floods experienced in the area led to the creation of the Central and Southern Florida Flood Control, precursor of the South Florida Water Management District, in 1947. The land was drained and used for farming and cattle rearing afterwards.
Following the Second World War, a South Florida housing boom saw Coral Ridge Properties developing interest in this area. The company bought land from Lyons to develop this master-planned city whose charter was granted in July 1963. The name “Coral Springs,” derived from the name of the city’s developer, was selected after several others, including Pompano Springs and Curran Village, had been rejected. In spite of its name, the community is said to have no springs. It is today home to some 130,000 people.
Coral Springs is the ideal location in Southern Florida for families to relocate to. This urban area is a convenient, well-organized city with one of the lowest crime rates in the state. Many of the public schools in the area are rated above average, and there are many opportunities for young people to stay active with sports and other extra-curricular activities.
The residents of Coral Springs enjoy a mild climate throughout most of the year. Aside from the wind and heavy storms that occur during hurricane season, the weather generally mild with pleasant winters and very hot summers. The subtropical climate makes it the ideal location for people who enjoy taking part in outdoor activities all year long. Many locals enjoy golfing, boating, and relaxing on the beach even during the cooler Fall and Winter seasons.
The cost of living for Coral Springs is slightly higher than the rest of the country at 21.70%. While this may be considered a disadvantage for some, the convenience of living in a peaceful area with all the luxurious of the big city makes up for the higher cost for most of the people who live here. The unemployment rate for this city is at 4.30%, which is lower than the national average. Coral Springs has also seen a positive growth in jobs over the past several years, which is another great advantage to relocating to the area.
The median home cost for Coral Springs is approximately $257,900. The area has seen a rise in home appreciation from 2014 to 2015. While the market is consistently changing, Coral Springs has seen the average listing price remain within the $280k to $300k range for the past several months.
