Homestead is a midsize the city in Miami Dade County Florida in the metropolitan Miami area. Located just 35 miles southwest of Miami, Homestead covers a landmass of approximately 14 mi.² and has a population of about 63,000. Despite being part of one of the country’s larger metropolitan areas, Homestead still retains strong ties to its agricultural roots. It is these roots from which Homestead derived its name.

First opened in 1921, it was renovated in 1940 with the iconic Art Deco façade that is there today. It closed its doors in 1979 and was almost completely destroyed by Hurricane Andrew in 1992. In 2014, the residents of Homestead set out to restore it and in October 2015, the Seminole Theatre opened its doors once again. Today the theatre serves as the premiere performing arts center of Homestead with some of the best live theater, music, dance productions in the region.
