Private Vacation Home
Charming Renovated 1930’s Soapstone Quarry Bungalow
Arrington, Virginia, United States
Relaxing, peaceful getaway in gorgeous Nelson County. Adjacent to a large hay field which leads down to a branch of the Tye River, the cottage is at the end of a quiet country lane with few nearby houses. The newly renovated home was initially built to house workers from a soapstone quarry located on the property, hidden in the woods. During the remodel, we even found rationing coupons from 1945 hidden in the walls! brbrComfortably blending modern conveniences, including free wifi, with quaint, historic charm, the bungalow is clean and minimally decorated with rustic tree posts, wood clad walls, pretty quilts from Sundance, warm wool blankets from a local sheep farm, and an adorable wood burning stove. We were happily able to save the original wood floors in most rooms. brbrEnjoy your morning coffee on one of the two front porch swings while you listen to the birds sing. In the evening, roast marshmallows in the outdoor fire pit or chase fireflies in the hayfield until the sun goes down for excellent stargazing. Bring your canoe or kayak and drift down the Tye River, only minutes away, with a fishing rod and picnic. Hike to the river which runs through the property and sit in an ancient waterfall!brbrPerfect for three or four responsible couples with or without children to escape to the rejuvenating countryside. An exterminator routinely comes to kill the bugs, but it is impossible to keep more bugs from coming from the surrounding fields and forest. Expect to perform tick inspections, as you would whenever walking or hiking in any grassy field or forest path once the frost are over. brbrAdditionally, the cottage operates on well water. You’ll find it tastes delicious compared to city water. Very rarely, after a prolonged period of rain, the whole house water filter may require changing. If you find there is no water pressure at all, please contact Renee immediately and she can quickly resolve the issue.brbrOur property manager, Renee Grant, is available to help you during your stay.
