This is a free-standing villa located on a hilltop that is above the palm grove leading to the ocean, giving unrestricted views. It is 600 meters from the beach called Playa Coson, 1000 meters from the beach Playa Bonita, and three kilometres from Las Terrenas. The 360-degree views are phenomenal, looking over the ocean in one direction, and the mountains in the other. The private swimming pool has a 40-foot curved vanishing edge that capitalizes on the ocean view. The villa is over 4000 square feet and located on a 9500-square-meter ( 3 acres) of land. We have a full-time maid for cleaning, laundry, and cooking (if requested) as well as a caretaker for pool, building, and grounds maintenance. We have been told that pictures can never do justice to a place so beautiful, however, there are five photos on this listing if you would like to see more contact me at the email address given on this site and I will forward them to you.
It was great i I highly recommend this villa for a family who just wants to share a weekend together
Upon arriving we immediately noticed that the property was not at all a reflection of the online photos my guess is that they probably were taken many years ago. I emailed the owner the same day to let him know of the insects we found in all the beds he said to bring it up with the caretaker which I did her response was that what can expect from a beach house? not spiders in my children's beds . It was so bad our guest and kids couldn't tolerate it any longer we found a snake by the pool, all the shower drains were clogged, the towels and sheets are old and smelly, the furniture needs upgrading the entire home needs much more care. After providing photos and asking the owner to refund us the early check out he refused to do so only offered a free 1 night stay if we return. I would NEVER return to your home and I think until the home is in adequate condition to receive guest you should remove yourself from VRBO. I have stayed in Las Terrenas prior and have never had such an horrible stay.
This is our third visit to Las Terrenas and will definitely not be out last. We love the easy vibe of this place, the warmth of the people and it does not hurt that the beaches are beautiful and plentiful as are the palm trees that shade them. There are loads of fun places to eat right on the beach that offer everything from fresh seafood to ceviche and japanese-inflected food. This house was so lovely that we had a hard time leaving it. The view is endless as you look out over the palm trees and onto the ocean in the distance. The design of the house is unique in that the indoors and the outdoors seamlessly blend together and you can catch the breathtaking view from everywhere. Scott was a great host, he was very accessible, responsive and helpful. The house staff were warm and pleasant without being intrusive. We enjoyed cooking in the big, well-stocked kitchen and enjoying our dinners by the pool. We made a daily ritual of sipping a rum-punch at sunset and lazing in the hammock in the early morning. Leaving was so very hard and we are already planning our return, we just hope that Scott will continue to share this amazing home with us.
My family of 8 so much enjoyed our stay at Scott's villa. The peace that one experiences here is amazing. The views are so beautiful and serene that you don't want to leave. Bien was a dear - she was so attentive and kind. The beach -which was a quick drive - was really nice as well. Overall it was a very pleasant stay.
Amazing place!!!!! Loved it
The house is beautiful, the view is a dream. The people who are in charge Bienvenida and Kennedy are very nice and lovely people.
We had an amazing trip and the biggest highlight of the trip was the villa where we stayed. Starting with the pleasant experience to book with Scott, the views of the villa were breathtaking, the architectural design of the villa is amazing, the staff were great Bien the service lady cooks amazing and Kennedy was very helpful. We are already planning trip #2!
We are a busy family and after a winter of hockey (over 100 games for our three teenage boys on three different teams), school and concerts, etc...Villa Mashek was the perfect retreat. Long walks on the beach, body surfing for hours by Restaurant Luis, snorkeling and board games and dominoes at night. Fond memories we will forever cherish. Hope to be back soon!
The house is very well located, very welcoming, very quiet, we feel immediately at home. It's a very beautiful place. We highly recommend this house. We were very happy to find always Bien and Rafaël for any issus and it was a pleasure to have always a house very clean. Thank you so much. We were confidente with them. La maison est très accueillante, très calme, on se sent tout de suite comme chez soi. Une vue exceptionnelle, avec une piscine superbe. Nous recommandons vivement cette maison. Bien et Rafaël sont vraiment disponibles et serviables. Un grand merci.
We spent a wonderful week at this villa in the Dominican Republic. The pictures online are accurate and reflect a well cared for and ideal home for our stay. The view is amazing and the pictures do not capture the relaxing feelings you get sitting on the couch or while swimming in the pool looking at the ocean and the palm trees below you. All rooms are well appointed and the beds were comfortable. There is a full kitchen at your disposal. There is no ac but that is a part of the charm. The fans in each room kept us cool. The bedrooms are screened and we never had any troubles with bugs at all during our stay, inside or out! The area is still developing but we found many good food and drink places in town. There is even a grocery store in town and was easy to find on google maps. Go to the beach! it was amazing and no one was on the beach. There was a great food shack called LUIS and it was great! We were really able to relax and unwind and just enjoy the view and pool. The onsite care takers were great. Bien kept the home clean and her husband kept the pool clean. They do not speak english but were able to communicate well with my broken Spanish and hand motions. We really feel that our two children will enjoy coming with us next summer. The beach and the coral and the waves were amazing! The hosts were great! They answered every question resolved any issue with ease to help us prepare easily for our trip. Thank you to the Mashek's for sharing their wonderful home with us! We look forward to returning again next year!
My family and I stayed at the villa for a few nights in July during our 2 weeks stay in the Dominican Republic. It was unanimous that this was our favorite location during our entire trip. The villa is gorgeous, the views are spectacular and the in house service is friendly and helpful. The best part and most memeorable part of our trip was returning to the villa after sightseeing and going for a swim while taking in the amazing views. We definitely plan on returning very soon!!!!
Villa Mashek , beautiful , quiet, friendly , a great place to enjoy and relax . Bienva and her husband Rafael , excellent hosts and tasty food . As for Villa , all perfect : rooms , bathrooms , kitchen and the perfect pool . Thanks Scott , I'm sure my family and I will soon , we were amazed . Greetings, Aleida. Saludos, Aleida.
The villa was perfect for our family of four which included two teenage sons. Bien and Rafael are wonderful, warm people who went out of their way to make sure our stay was perfect. Bien cooked dinner for us two evenings and the food was outstanding. Scott was extremely helpful and accommodating from stocking our groceries to arranging quads and recommending activities. The villa is incredibly beautiful, with comfortable open-air living room, cozy bedrooms and gorgeous baths, well appointed kitchen and spectacular views. We felt at home immediately. It was the perfect spot for some much needed R&R. We will return! Thank you for sharing your slice of paradise!
As per the website description, the pictures do not make justice to Villa Mashek in Las Terrenas. The place is unbelievable and the view is truly breathtaking. Since our first night at Villa Mashek, Bienvenida and Rafael (villa’s caretakers) made sure our stay would be a great and unforgettable one. The villa is very comfortable and the open space makes for amazing views, a comfortable and fresh environment. Villa Mashek comfortably accommodates 6-8 people and there is plenty of room to relax and unwind. Should you decide to leave the Villa, the proximity to the town of Las Terrenas made it very easy for our grocery shopping and beach outings (about a 5 to 10 minute drive). The people in Las Terrenas were friendly and willing to help us out in any way. My favorite spot was Luis' restaurant. This restaurant reminded me so much of home, as the menu was laid out in a cooler for our picking. The food and service were amazing. Everyone enjoyed this lunch and the Pina Coladas inside the actual pineapple. I can't speak enough of Benvenida and Rafael. They were very hospitable, friendly and attentive during the entire week. They made sure the villas, as well as our entire group, were taken care of. They are truly genuine and humble people and I can see why you chose them to be the caretakers of your property. I can’t speak enough of the amazing time I spent at Villa Mashek. The only recommendation I can provide is to experience it for yourself.
We had the vacation of a lifetime at Villa Mashek! When we walked through the front door, it literally took our breath away! The home is right out of a movie. Gorgeous sweeping views from the open living room over the infinity pool. The staff was beyond gracious and accommodating and very patient with our limited/creative attempt to speak in Spanish. We were able to communicate everything we needed and never had a problem! Everything is close by, the lovely town of Las Terrenas as well as all the exciting activities in Samana. Scott and Jan gave us great ideas for horseback riding, hiking, local excursions...even zip lining! It was an extraordinary vacation! I look forward to coming back and will tell all my friends to visit Villa Mashek as well! Thank you for your gracious hospitality! Jennifer Aries
My friend and I opened the door to Villa Mashek and it was like stepping into another world. The amazing 180 degree view of the turquoise ocean just beyond the infinite edge pool is breathtaking. The pictures on the website don't do it justice. The Dominican couple that take care of the home are so friendly and helpful. We spoke very little Spanish but were able to get all our needs across with laughter. The town of Las Terranes is so charming and the people very friendly. We always felt safe whether walking the miles of white sand beaches, shopping in town or enjoying the nightlife. Our favorite spot, Luis's on the Beach, is a must destination for anyone. What could be better than drinking a pina colada from a pineapple while watching the surf crash 20 feet from you. Can't wait to return.
Open space, designed for comfort and relaxation, Villa Mashek met our expectations! Looking for tranquility, beautiful views and spectacular beaches this is the place to stay...Thanks owners for sharing your home.
The area and the property are beautiful. The home is set in an elevated peaceful area, and the view is gorgeous. Driving around the area there are some of the most beautiful ocean views I have ever seen in my life. The staff Rafael and Benvida were beautiful people. They are very happy and it resonates. They are also very helpful if you speak no Spanish use google translate. They were able to let me know the best place to buy a phone card, best exchange rate for money, best grocery stores etc. Benvida is also an excellent cook, her chicken was very good. There were a couple of bumps as with most trips and Scott the homeowner was quick to address. The home is mostly outdoors bring some bug spray, also if you sit near the large ceiling fans that will keep them away. All the best Scott sorry for the late review. Grant.
We did our homework and were super excited to travel to Mashek Villa in Las Terrances. However, our discomfort began on night one. We arrived late, but were greeted at the airport by a friendly driver which would have put us at ease if he spoke one word of English. He did not. When we arrived, after a long, dark drive with no sense where we were going, we were greeted by Bien, a warm, friendly housekeeper who again spoke VERY LITTLE English. Trying to use Google translate was a fail as well. The house was indeed lovely and looked exactly like the photos; however, what I didn't realize, is that the house is basically outdoor living. In addition to this being a little dangerous with the pool in the living room (or nothing to prevent the little children in our group from falling/swimming), we realized the only parts that can be locked up tight were the bedrooms. Each room individually by key or from the inside. With small children, we'd have to lock them in from the outside with the key, but then they wouldn't be able to get out if they needed us. So they would need the key inside with them, locking us out. Our stress was further heightened by a review of the welcome log, where one traveler described in detail how the home had been broken into and robbed by gun point while they were there. We spent two restless days and nights and finally decided we couldn't stay for the week. Our plight was further complicated by the fact that the vehicle we rented from Scott was broken down, which no one communicated to us until well into our second day. We were quite literally trapped in what should have been paradise. If we had been a large group, with teenagers or adults, this *might* have been okay as there is a sense of safety in numbers. But as a family traveling with three young children, it was unbearable. We moved on. The owner did NOT reimburse our rental fees. It is a lovely home, but not suitable for a family with young children. Be sure you speak the language and bring lots of bug spray!
My family chose to stay in Villa Mashek for a weekend while in Las Terrenas, and we had an amazing time there. There was absolutely nothing we could complain about from the house itself, the staff and great location. The views alone are enough for one to be impressed. The home is kept in a very personable way, which allowed all of us to make ourselves comfortable and settle in immediately. The home staff were great people who helped us with every single thing we asked for. I would definitely recommend this to anybody, and we do intend to return to Villa Mashek in the future.
We stayed at Villa Mashek for 10 days after Christmas and it exceeded our expectations despite other glowing reviews on VRBO. Villa Mashek, on a beautiful spot overlooking the ocean, is very well arranged - our family of 5 (kids aged 16, 13, and 9) were very comfortable in the house with 3 bedrooms (each with en suite baths). The house has a great collection of books, family games, DVDs - making it easy just to stay put and relax. We succeeded to lap up the tranquillity and peace. A truly spectacular beach is very accessible (15 min walk downhill). The lively town of Las Terrenas was also fun once you negotiate the traffic of motorbikes and quads. We took full advantage of local tour operators (Flora Tours was great) to explore the waterfall, national park and more remote beaches. Villa Mashek is also well looked after by the on-site caretaker who also cooks (which is nice because the kitchen takes some getting used to). All in all, a wonderful spot for a family vacation and we highly recommend it!
This was the second time my wife and I and her parents came home to this wonderful world on the hillside. You never get tired of the view, the pool and the smell of fresh air. The bedrooms are all wonderful but the Master is a dream. Lay in bed and look out overtop palms to the sea in the distance. The house has everything you need including internet for those who need to stay connected. The local town is charming and the beaches spectacular. The owners are a pleasure to deal with and obviously love their home. Look forward to returning next year or sooner!
The minute I arrived with my boyfriend at Jan and Scott's villa, I fell in love with the Dominican Republic all over again. We had not come to Las Terrenas since the new airport and highways opened: it is so easy now to travel from New York. This was the perfect romantic getaway: tranquility, peace and beauty. The view is absolutely stunning, the house charming with a perfect spot for every moment of the day, Bienvenida and Rafael are so kind and helpful and the location ideal if you want to be close to town -a short 10mn drive-, or the beach -a 15mn-walk-, while at the same time being isolated, as if in your own little heaven. Next time we come, I am not looking for any other place than his paradise villa!
We stood at the villa for 3 nights and it is the best place I've ever rented (we rent at least twice a year around the world). We were 8 members of our family and the villa is spacious enough that you don't feel crowed at all....but the best is the breath taking view from the moment you enter the from door. The rooms were very comfortable and the town of Las Terrenas is great for when you don't want to cook or to obtain a tour to many interesting places that surrond the area. Thanks to Scott and Jan for having this great place and thanks to Bienvenida and Rafael for taking care of us during our stay.
Our family spent a week in April at Villa Mashek, and after our great experience we plan to spend more time there in the future. This is a beautiful house that is intelligently designed for the tropics. We were one family, but the place is perfectly suited for two families; the split wings on either side of the pool ensure privacy. The place is well kept, clean and spacious, and the kitchen large and well equipped. The pool is great, the 180 view is amazing at any time of day. The outdoor living room is large and comfy with cross ventilation- no need to be enclosed in this climate. For those who freak out at lizards or frogs (and the occasional mosquito)- you really shouldn't be traveling anywhere except an all inclusive resort anyway. The caretakers are wonderful people- to really get to know them some Spanish would be nice, but they will understand you. Bienvenida is a good cook, and Rafael her husband is the resident security/handyman. The best beach in Samana, Playa Coson, is a hike down the hill, about 15-20 minutes by foot, okay for those in relatively good shape, but tired kids will be unhappy on the way back up the hill. I would strongly suggest having a Quad or small car (check SixT car rental at El Catey Airport) for this place, as it is fun to go into Las Terrenas for restos/groceries/shopping/dancing, and this place is a bit far for regular motoconcho rides. We are reluctant to recommend this place too highly, as we want to guarantee our own spot in the future, but there we go. Really, just a wonderful place.
The view from the house and the house itself is absolutely amazing. It is true that pictures don't do justice to this place. We stayed for a few days in December and just loved the outside feel of the house and the cool December air in the evenings. The owners were very responsive and helpful. The property is clean and has a welcoming feel. We would recommend it to all of our friends.
The vista of the ocean over thousands of palm trees when you open the front door and look through the living room over the infinity pool is breath-taking. Heavenly. The bedrooms open to the ocean view yet not to each other so privacy and comfort meet. We loved the beach in the late afternoons and some nightlife in Las Terrenas thereafter. A great location for a lovely stay!
We spent Christmas week at Villa Mashek and had a fantastic time. It is a gorgeous villa in a beautiful setting. The housekeeper and caretaker, as well as the owners, are pleasant and helpful. The house is is stunning, with everything you need for a relaxing and enjoyable vacation. We have traveled a lot, and this was one of the nicest places we ever rented. The town of Las Terrenas is a great place to visit and the people were very friendly. The beaches are beautiful and completely uncrowded.
Villa Mashek is a wonderful place for a holiday....Scott and Jan have designed a lovely home that features a delightful blend of nature and creature comforts. The view from the open-air living room is truly a feast for the eyes and a balm for the spirit. An easy10 min drive (a sturdy-ish car recommended in the rainy season!) delivers you to Playa Coson, one of the loveliest beaches we have ever visited -- very quiet, the coastline there is still relatively undeveloped, pristine sand, crystalline water, shaded by palms, a couple nice restaurants...our sons are teenagers so the pool and steep hillside at the house were no concern, would advise waiting to visit Villa Mashek if your children are still small....we were well looked after by the domestic staff, Bien and Merona. This home offers a holiday of rejuvenation with beautiful sunsets, heavenly hours in the sea, peaceful evenings under the fans, the songs of crickets and frogs through the night....simply delightful!
I have stayed here with my fiance for 5 nights and I so wish we could have stayed longer! The villa is so beautiful. Everything about it is just perfect, the setting with wonderful views, the master bedroom, the whole design and decor, the amazing pool! We couldn't get enough of it! The caretaker Moreno and the maid Bien were wonderful and very helpful. Las Terrenas Is a great, fun town with amazing beaches and authentic culture. Thank you Scott and Jan! Aleksandra
We stayed at Villa Mashek this past July, 2010 and had an great time. The house is beautiful, the people were great. The house has spectacular views, I wished we had more time to enjoy the house. When you 're on vacation you want to see the country you're visiting so you got to get out, but it's the kind of place that you want to just sit around and enjoy. This house is not meant for people that are not in touch with nature. In the morning before our kids got up, we would sit on the couch and watch the birds and butterflies fly through the house. Bien (the cleaning lady) was very nice and helpful. I definately recommend it and hope to go back soon!
