We were 2 families of 5 each with kids ranging in age: 5-15. House is up on a hill, ~1 mile from the main road with a long driveway and a very remote feel. The house is perched on the top of a very lush and tropical hill with an abundance of plants and flowers. Our kids enjoyed walking on the paths through the gardens. There was discreet barbed wire fencing around the property. The house is grand and quite spacious; having a full bath for each of the rooms was ideal. Furnishings are good and decorations tasteful. Bathrooms need an update, and the pool furniture needs to be replaced (straps were completely broken on some chairs which rendered them unusable). The internet and therefore TV connection was sketchy. There are metal gates on most windows and doors which the butler locked up each night. They seem to have been part of the original house construction and we noticed that all of the houses have these. The highlight of the property is a large ficus tree with a 270 degree view, much of which is of the ocean. Under the tree, the adults enjoyed coffee in the morning and cocktails in the evening. The spot is truly outstanding. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The butler sleeps in quarters next to the kitchen on most nights. Yvonne from the office was helpful. The windows and doors were left open during the day and some in the evening which gives rise to mosquitos in the house. It is impractical to think that they could put screens throughout the house, and it would be a sin to fully close up the house and not enjoy the terrific breezes. There are mosquito nets over the beds (a few had small holes which need to be replaced) and there are also fans in the bedrooms. We found that the less-toxic skin-so-soft + picardin bug spray was enough to stave off the bugs but you have to spray first thing in the morning and after showers. We LOVED Frenchmen's cove and surfed at Boston Beach. Reach falls was the highlight of the trip followed by a bamboo rafting trip. We enjoyed dinner at Nigel's and lunch at Cynthia's. We used Taryl to drive us everywhere. The drive from MBJ was ~4 hours with no traffic. Taryl has access to many sized vans and could accommodate our group. We really enjoyed Taryl. House has a few boogie boards and snorkels for the beach but you have to ask. Most things required cash including 10% recommended gratuity of the staff at Norse Hill. All in all a great spot.
The cottage is located within the stunning private grounds of Norse Hill Estate. Humming birds and butterflies abound. Anyone with an interest in nature will love it. The building is well maintained and immaculate inside, has a/c but not needed during my stay. Gentle breezes keep the property cool. The staff are exceptional, Wayne Alma and Paula will cater to all of your needs. Alma can cook anything asked for and local produce is fantastic. The local manager is Yvonne Blakey, very efficient and knowledgeable. I booked the property for 3 days and ended up staying for 11, very little more that I can say to recommend this amazing cottage.
We have finally returned from Norse Hill. What a wonderful and beautiful property! Everyone who works with Norse Hill has created an experience for my family we will never forget. I want to thank you all for making this experience so seamless and pleasant for me. Not just the planning, but also the execution. I must send a special thank you to the staff at Norse Hill. Alma's cooking was nothing short of fabulous. The house was always spic and span, and I must thank Paula and Wayne for that. Wayne was able to easily help us with anything we needed to plan that involved leaving the property and heading into town. They were all so polite and friendly, making our experience absolutely excellent. Thank you again for providing the means for memories created to last us a lifetime!
Norse Hill is a beautiful vacation home.It has an amazing view of the ocean. It is a slice of Jamaican heaven. This is a fabulous property with enough space for everyone. We had a most memorable and enjoyable stay. The staff serves delicious meals.
My stay at Norse Hill was AMAZING!! From the minute you arrive you instantly relax. The home, the grounds and the views are absolutely gorgeous!! The staff are very kind and attentive to your needs. There are many wonderful excursions to partake in nearby (rafting, Reach Falls, beautiful beaches). I had a lovely time in Port Antonio and the Norse Hill experience made it that much better. I am looking forward to retuning next year.
This beautiful Jamaican vacation home was a wonderful, tranquil place to stay in Port Antonio. The grounds are kept in pristine condition. The staff are friendly, helpful and cooked amazing dishes for us every evening. The rooms and bathrooms are very clean. I can not wait to return to this property. I would recommend this home as the best place to stay in Port Antonio.
From the breathtaking view to the vivacious staff, Norse Hill Is my new most favorite place to stay in Port Antonio. I especially loved how all the beds had mosquito nets so that we could sleep with the fresh ocean breeze.
Norse Hill was an amazing experience. From the service to the scenery it was an incredible place to spend spring break with close friends. A nice retreat that feels like you are away from the world. Rooms were spacious and the backyard is incredible. Already planning on coming back!
The property was absolutely beautiful--amazing views with clean, spacious rooms. There is so much to do in Port Antonio, and our driver was excellent with giving recommendations. The entire staff was so friendly and polite, and very dedicated to making our stay as enjoyable as possible. Would definitely recommend it to others, and definitely want to come back myself!
My husband and I visited the estate for a quick stay and left wishing for more time! As others have shared, Alma, Wayne and Yvonne did everything possible to make our visit fun and relaxing. Alma prepared lovely meals that were delicious, hearty and healthy and Wayne spoiled us with poolside cocktails. As busy working parents, it was such a luxury to be pampered in this way. While it was hard to tear ourselves away from the beautiful house and grounds we greatly enjoyed exploring the surrounding areas. We are avid runners and hikers so we actually did most of our exploring on foot. For visitors that are comfortable walking along the busy main road (as local residents do) it is very feasible to enjoy the surrounding sites in this way. For anyone wishing for more tranquil walks, strolling the glorious gardens of the estate or the quiet roads within the community was also a joy. While we were visiting without our children it would clearly make for an idyllic family vacation. The house is so comfortable and well appointed - and so beautifully connected to the outdoors - it would definitely delight all ages. We are already planning to return with our extended family in tow and are so looking forward to seeing everyone on the wonderful Norse Hill Estate team again!
The property is every bit as beautiful as the pictures suggest. The grounds are lovely and interesting to explore. The staff took good care of us throughout our stay. Alma is a wonderful cook, Wayne made us lovely banana daiquiris, and Rose kept the house lovely and clean. She also did our laundry for us mid-week. Port Antonio is a lovely unspoiled part of Jamaica. We rafted on the Rio Grande, had an amazing lunch at Belinda's, Jerk and surfing at Boston Bay and visited Reach Falls - not to be missed. Yvonne helped make the arrangements and generally made sure we enjoyed our time in Port Antonio. We highly recommend to anyone looking to relax and enjoy the warmth of the people, the breezes and the ocean!
We just returned from our amazing 1 week stay at Norse Hill. We were a group of 6 adults and 5 young children (all under the age of 4) and this was the perfect spot. We have travelled to this part of country many times over the years, but this was our first stay at Norse Hill and we couldn't have asked for anything more. The house, grounds, staff, view and feel were beyond lovely. We had to be a bit flexible with the sleeping arrangements given the young children- but the staff were happy to accommodate (they even supplied us with 2 cribs and a highchair). The large lawn was great for the kids and the view simple serenity for the parents. Frenchman's cove was a very short drive down the hill, and this too was a perfect beach for young families. We look forward to visiting this spot again in the future. For those who are not familiar with this part of the country and considering traveling with kids, it is not the easiest of drives from the major airports... but well worth it once you get there.
From the moment our group of 10 walked through the front door of Norse Hill we knew we had made the right decision. There are 3 bedrooms on the second floor overlooking the pool, tree of life and property and a 4th bedroom on the lower level off the living room and patio. There is a cottage just a short path walk from the main house. The cottage has a king size bed with a small couch 2 chairs and a bathroom with a rainshower. The king size bed is very comfortable and there is a beautiful wrap around deck overlooking the grounds where we spent many mornings sipping coffee and relaxing. If you need more room there is a lower level to the cottage you can also rent with two twin beds a very small bathroom and a camp like kitchen. However the best part of Norse Hill is the amazing staff. Lester our chef made the best food we have ever had. Every evening when we came for dinner it was a joy to see what he had prepared for us that day. Wayne took great care of us and our needs and Arla our housekeeper kept our rooms clean and also did laundry for us as the week went on. There are 2 gardeners that take incredible care of the property and will take you on a tour of the amazing gardens if you would like. Green our driver was awesome! He took us all over the island in his green machine and stayed with us and provided great care and safety and his knowledge of the island and its history was incredible. We were only there a few days when we were planning our next trip back to Norse Hill. Do not hesitate to book this property we believe it is the best on the island.
it is a beautiful place, a taste of God's beauty and peace, here on earth. Thank you for all your kindness and allowing us to stay there. We were 16 in total and had plenty of space, and even more. We were able to rest, meditate, and pray. Only suggestion, it would of been nice to have change room with bathroom close to pool, so dripping thru house can be avoided.
This mountain-top property is wonderfully secluded, elegantly appointed, and provided for a relaxing stay. The staff was very helpful and accommodating. The experience exceeded my expectations. I would highly recommend this property to anyone considering it for a visit to this part of Jamaica.
Norse Hill is a peaceful paradise that immediately feels like you were meant to be there. From the landscape rich grounds to the warmth of the residence that sits naturally upon the mountain's side, this is a property that's easy to recommend to others considering a getaway. Oddly, with all the beauty and comfort the residence offers, it might be the accommodating staff that tops the list of reasons to stay here. Five stars.
I have travelled extensively, but none compare with the experience of Norse Hill. Upon arrival the staff greats you like a dear old friend, with welcoming smiles that make you feel at home immediately. Refreshments are waiting after a day of travel to begin enjoying the breathtaking view of the ocean from the home. Norse Hill was perfect for entertaining a large group or family. All accommodations are ensuite with wonderful linens and tastefully decorated. Walking paths through the 8 acres of Botanical gardens are a serene way to enjoy the day. You could wander all day and see the various blooms at different times of the day. My favorite thing was waking up to the most beautiful sunset, with a great cup of coffee waiting, and relaxing on the back patio. We went on several of the recommended excursions and none of them disappointed. The Reach Falls were incredible to climb, Frenchmen's Cove was an absolutely gorgeous beach, and rafting... All amazing day trips that are close by. Norse Hill and it's staff didn't just meet my expectations, but went far beyond. I would recommend the Villa to the most astute traveller. The week I spent at Norse Hill will truly stand out in my fondest of memories. Jenny Sarver Cincinnati, OH
I have been to Jamaica 3 times via a cruise. Not really impress until s friend told me about Port Antonio area and the Norse Hill Estate. Very pleasant surprise and the best way to experience Jamaica, mon. The Norse Hill Estate is an awesome house that accommodated 4/5 couples with plenty of space. Everything is first class and is perfectly maintained. Views are even better than the pictures. Cocktails every night out on the patio with an ocean view & breeze. Coffee waiting for you every morning, breakfast served every with fresh fruit at a table that seats 8-10 people. Really cool and professional manicured grounds in which you can walk around and see, various fruit trees, flowers. The staff was awesome. They were so accommodating. What ever you wanted. What was great about the staff too along with there pleasant personalities is that you seldom would see them but was always there when you needed something. Beautiful beaches, hiking ,rafting and lots more to do in the area. Great trip and highly recommended for families, couples looking for some adventure and great relief from the all inclusive stuff.
We had the pleasure of visiting the Norse Hill Estate in Jamaica in late February/early March 2015. The moment we stepped inside the front entrance, we knew we were in for something special. The panoramic ocean view from atop the hill was breathtaking. The lush green view from every vantage point as you looked out the back of the house was so beautiful and serene – we felt like we stepped into a dream. The home is absolutely majestic – we loved how the breeze flowed through the grand open doors that line the back of the house. And, relaxing on the patio that sits on the edge of the hill under the massive tree is a perfect place to let your cares just drift away. (Also, the recently renovated cottage that sits adjacent to the house is an awesome addition to this fabulous property!) If that isn’t enough, what a treat it was to have such a wonderful staff take care of us! Leston did an amazing job preparing all of the delicious meals and Wayne took care of serving us and attending to our needs. We also appreciated the excellent maid service. They are delightful people that we enjoyed meeting and having them there added to our comfortable and stress-free vacation. We also enjoyed the many sights and adventures that Port Antonio has to offer – the raft ride down the Rio Grande River and lunch at Belinda’s along the way, the unbelievably beautiful waters in and around the Blue Lagoon and the private and idyllic beach at Frenchman’s Cove. We are thankful to Andre, our driver, for expertly transporting us all around Port Antonio! Our stay at Norse Hill Estate was a truly memorable experience and one that we will always treasure. It is a touch of heaven nestled atop a hill in a secluded town far and away from the hustle and bustle that is rejuvenating, re-energizing and relaxing for all lucky enough to visit!
My husband and I celebrated our 25th anniversary at Norse Hill with all 8 of our children ranging from 23-10 years of age. Simply, Norse Hill was glorious. We all had a great time and have elevated our Norse Hill experience to our best family vacation yet. There is so much to say about the property, home and staff. Things we loved: • The layout of the house is exceptional, especially for a large group. We can tell that great thought and attention was paid to the design and its layout. We loved the master bedroom doors leading to the balconies. While air conditioning was available, we choose to listen to the wildlife symphony each night and early morning. The breeze we experienced was exquisite. • The gardens and property were beautifully kept up. • The assortment of books was great as was the over-sized backgammon game. • The house staff was ideal. Lestin, Wayne and Rose did a wonderful job of caring for our needs. It was the first time we have had the great pleasure of experiencing house staff while on vacation. I am hard pressed to vacation without house staff ever again. • Frontgate furniture was beautiful and perfect for relaxation and reading under the fig tree. • It was a great help to have Dude, our driver, available at a moment’s notice to drive us around town. He has a great, heartwarming personality and smile to match. Dude was always early for each drive, which I found comforting, particularly driving to the airport twice. • Cell phone available for use while at Norse Hill was very convenient and helpful. Chef Lestin was exceptional. Each morning we were served fresh fruit, cereal, bacon, eggs, toast and juice. We are big bacon and egg eaters so this was a perfect fit. The following items were favorites for all of us: Pumpkin soup and red bean soup, green salad served at lunch and dinner, pasta and meat sauce, lasagna, Jamaican curry chicken and rice. Simply delicious! Some nice touches: • White plush bath towels in every bathroom. • Rum drinks served when we arrived on our first day. • Bathrobe in master bathroom. • 5 gallon Water cooler in the family room • Sunscreen/bug spray by the front door • Staff on hand upon arriving and departing. The Merritts are very gracious to share their piece of heaven on earth. I feel blessed that we found Norse Hill. We will certainly be back. Our children insist!
A fantastic experience in a great and relaxing home. A discreet and attentive staff. Thanks to Lester for making us discover the jamaica fooding. Thanks to Wayne for his service and attention, thanks to Jacqueline for his kindness and impeccable bedroom service. The charm of this house also lies in its beautiful garden maintained by two gardeners (thank you to them). Thanks to Yvonne for his visit to check if we missed anything. We are delighted with this location, worthy of a grand hotel. You can go there with your eyes closed! Sophie (France)
My husband and I rented the property for a week for our family and best friends to stay in, while we also used it for our intimate destination wedding. We knew the moment we saw Norse Hill from only the photos alone that it would be the place for us to wed, however as with planning any wedding, there are many initial concerns. From the very first inquiry Kay, Al and Yvonne, all who take part in management of renting the property, were extremely helpful, insightful and quite reassuring with utmost professionalism. They took no time in responding to any questions, thoughts, or concerns we had which made us feel at ease. Kay even contacted us right up before we left just to be reassuring and see if there was anything else we needed. We arrived before our guests to see the property, and It was truly breathtaking. To be married in such a place, in such splendor, was awe inspiring; I couldn't concentrate at the moment on the business at hand. I almost felt regret that we were to be staying at a neighboring property (which we chose for privacy away from our guests although NH offers such.) The home is a bit dated, which imo only adds to the character to the very well kept property. The entire exterior and interior from the driveway to the sea is a beautiful utopia that lends itself to the cool tradewinds and fresh mountain air. I could happily spend the rest of my days there. The staff was very accommodating in providing snacks for the bridal party and vendors the day of the wedding. We also had an additional family dinner during the remainder of our stay after the wedding in which they set up the mid-century modern dining furniture out on the property. The meal was delicious and I'll never have another pineapple upside down cake like I did lest I return. ;) Yvonne helped us arrange an outing to do the down river bamboo raft tour (request BELINDAS for lunch) as well as some airport transfers at extremely reasonable rates. We were also given a property tour of the gardens by the keeper of 45 years who showed us various ferns, lillies, orchids, spices and fruits, some of which we were able to taste. The neighborhood location is very safe and secure. In the evening we would walk down the hill and back from the Bushbar (flashlight advised.) This part of Portland as a whole, as I have found on my few trips there, is quite safe. During my last stay, it really began to almost feel like home. Nobody wanted to leave, but we anticipate our return.
This home and botanical property was like a fairytale. The stunning views from this mountaintop home were incomparable to any other location in the world we've stayed in. The staff were extremely courteous and so very friendly. Privacy and relaxation abound. We were truly in our own world. The trade wind breezes blew through the open windowed rooms and hallways. We awoke each morning to fresh Blue Mountain coffee, and delicious, fresh fruit and food from the property and nearby farms, and relaxed in the beautiful pool or many of the peaceful areas to sit and enjoy peace, quiet, and coastal, mountain views. The gardens were more like lush rainforests, abundant with flora and fauna we had never seen or heard of before. We could walk to the nearby Geejam Bush bar, but all other places in the town, and down the mountain, required driving. There was no need to leave this paradise, yet when we did, it was convenient to many of the attractions in the Port Antonio area.
I was truly smitten by this magical Villa and surrounding garden! The space is absolutely breathtaking. In addition to a beautiful home we were engaged by beautiful, warm, caring people. I LOVE Jamaica! Can't wait to return!!l
Having lived in Jamaica for several years, I can definitely say that Norse Hill surpasses by far any other villa I have stayed at. The Port Antonio region is a little known gem, off the beaten track, and Norse Hill is the dream place to enjoy it from. The property is exceptional and the staff is extremely professional, welcoming and friendly. The only downside to a stay at Norse Hill is how difficult it is to leave it to come back to reality! :-)
This was my wife and my first trip to Jamaica and this wonderful area near Port Antonio (and this is also my first ever review of a vacation spot). Norse Hill is simply beautiful. The house is large, as are the rooms. The staff was very friendly, polite and welcoming. We only had breakfast because we were gone during the days and nights. Fresh fruit, plantains, pancakes, bacon, eggs, a local dish of greens and fish that was fantastic, juices etc, basically anything we'd like started off our days. From our second floor large balcony we could see the large manicured lawn, stately trees, beautiful swimming pool and view of the Caribbean, which is about a 10 minute ride to reach. The grounds are a tropical paradise and my only regret is that we didn't spend more time hiking around the property. Trails lead to clearings in what is a real slice of paradise. And the beaches below have the clear aqua green water that you usually see in a magazine like Conde Nast Traveler. Couldn't recommend this place enough. It probably sleeps 8 or more tho I'm not sure. We slept in a large comfortable canopied bed with mosquito netting. We opened the doors to the balcony and a nice cool breeze made sleeping really easy. At night we heard all kinds of exotic bird sounds as well as an early rooster or two. I've never seen so many different plants, ferns and palms at such a large scale before. If you love gardens this is one you must see and explore!! And the house and grounds are as clean and well maintained as can be. Just down the road is Gee Jam, a bar/restaurant /recording studio, where the views are as outrageous as at Norse Hill. We got to tour the studio where Beyonce has recorded, among others. If we ever come back to Jamaica we'd invite some friends along to fill up the house and we'd make sure to tour the grounds more.
Norse Hill is a glorious and restful retreat overlooking lush gardens and beautiful waters adjacent to Port Antonio. The house itself breathes serenity with large windows and doors open to the Caribbean breeze--indeed, the place has a unique, affirming spiritual warmth to it. The staff are warm and welcoming and the food is delicious, particularly the fried plantains! We appreciated the freshness and authenticity of the varied dishes. Norse Hill is located on the northeast part of the island, a less developed area and favorite destination of Kingstonians. Whether by air or by car, it's well worth the trip and guaranteed to be memorable. We were there for four days with two other couples, we could have stayed for a month though even in such a short time we found our bodies and souls replenished. There is much to do nearby, while never feeling as though you are on the tourist treadmill. Crystal blue waters, kayaking, snorkeling, good local restaurants, and a rich history at your doorstep.
We just returned from our stay at Norse Hill in Jamaica and feel blessed to have stayed in the beautiful experience that this home offers. Norse Hill is a peaceful retreat, the staff is lovely and the grounds are special. My favorite moments were waking up each morning to the turquoise light flooding into the bedroom, and sharing rum punch with my husband while relaxing on the lawn overlooking the ocean...a stunning time.
This property is absolutely breathtaking. Our experience unforgettable. The staff was the best. The house is beautiful and spacious. Very nice open floor plan. The view is enchanting. Waking up to the sound of the sea and hearing the birds singing was the highlight. We enjoyed our boat tour on the Blue Lagoon and Jerk chicken at Boston Jerk Centre. We have already shared our experience with our friends and family and is planning our next trip back. We received all that was promised and more. We love Norse Hill estate.
I must say this house is one of the nicest Houses I've ever stayed at, especially in Jamaica. My Wife and I along with our 2 small kids often travel to Jamaica and we always stay in Port Antonio (the best part of Jamaica). Yvonne Blakey is very friendly and will help you get whatever you need while you're staying at Norse Hill. My Wife and Kids love the privacy of being so high up above the surrounding houses and having our own swimming pool. The property is fairly large and the trees and plants all around you make you feel so peaceful. The house is made up of lots of wood and well kept. I must say I was impressed the first time I saw the place. I only regret not inviting more family members to enjoy my vacation with me because this house has the space. Also the nicest beach in Jamaica is also on the bottom of the hill (Frenchmens Cove). This place is true paradise, especially when I live in the Las Vegas desert.
The tropical blue ocean and nearly pristine shoreline at the base of this mountain paradise frame the villa's lush green lawn and rambling garden paths that wind along the hillside of the property's 8 acres leading down near the water's edge. My husband and I were enchanted by the lush surroundings and comfortable accommodations. The staff at Norse Hill was ever attentive and served food made-to-order that was as good as what we would expect at any restaurant in town. We were within minutes of the famous Blue Lagoon, the Trident restaurant and hotel, as well as Boston Beach and Great Huts - where we experienced a dance show unlike any performance we have ever witnessed! The town of San Antonio was not a destination, yet a drive up the coast proved rewarding with Dunn's Falls and the Goldeneye Resort (A must-see for fan's of Ian Flemming's James Bond books.) We highly recommend Norse Hill for any couple or group looking for an ultra-private, peaceful, serene and spacious retreat.
What an absolutely fabulous view of Port Antonio!!! The air is sooo refreshing and the setting in the beautiful hills breathtaking. Nothing beats swinging in a hammock under a tree with its leaves rustling in the gentle breeze - and the hummingbirds flittering around! The Jamaican people are wonderful - the cook made the most delicious meals (and pastry), the butler kept us supplied with more than enough food on the table and the most delicious ever tasting coffee (that truly wonderful Blue Mountain Coffee smell is to die for), the helper ensured we had everything one could ever need, and the gardener gave us an educational tour of the hugh property (our day's supply of exercise!). Experience Norse Hill, experience Jamaica at its best!!
This listing doesn't give the house justice! The photos can't even show how beautiful everything is! The house was clean and very well maintained. Yvonne was great with recommending places to go and thing to do. I would recommend this property. The staff were all really nice and accommodating. The food was delicious, especially the bacon!! The pool was relaxing and the hammock was fun to hang out on. The tour of the garden was great, given by Albert, who design and takes care of the gardens there. He knew everything! The beaches were a close drive. There was a tv and computer to watch DVDs, which they had at the house. The free calls to the US and wifi was a good way to stay in touch. Frenchman's Cove was a great beach. Rafting was soooo relaxing, Reach Falls was adventurous, and Woody's restaurant was quaint and delicious.
great place for family vacations. Very clean, comfortable home, great location. best experience in dealing with the owners
Beutiful home, perfect for familly vacation, very clean and well maintained, excellent response from owners!!!
Norse Hill is a super-elegant, high altitude garden paradise perched atop one of the Caribbean's most upscale set of properties ideally described as "San-San". This property exudes a fresh mountain air plus the magnificence of well cultured flora and fauna,a naturally tranquil elegance and superb architecture supportive of rest, relaxation and inspiration. This is a writer's, artist's or composers paradise.Perfect for retreats, seminars or conferences. The service is excellent; the physical look and feel are first class. This place is true reminder of Eden's paradise. It is fit for vacationers who can afford the tab, understand and desire the good living. I have attended several meetings, participated in a most unforgettable seminar. The staff is courteous; repass most sumptuous
Norse Hill is truly a magical place where time has stood still. You can do nothing but relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings and I have very cherished moments of time Ive spent there so far. Another visit to be scheduled soon and I cant wait.. I have visited Norse Hill on 3 occasions, each time so special in its own way. I travelled from London on my first trip, staying with one of my closest friends, for a good old girlie catchup. We spent the whole time chilling out and enjoying the peace and quiet of the beautiful house with amazing grounds and gardens. We had breakfast made from fruit from the trees, watching the humming birds and then go for walks to be shown around the gardens by the loyal gardener, lovely Albert. The second trip was my honeymoon which again was very special. We were met at the airport by Dude who took us to sample the local cuisine on route to Norse Hill. Once we got the house not a word was said we were just drawn to walk onto the lawn for a breath-taking, spectacular view, across the bay. We would lie in the hammock on the lawn by the big tree and were served cocktails by Wayne our dedicated cocktail maker. Pina Coladas or Rum Punch went down very well on a hot and humid day. We took trips to the Blue Lagoon, visited waterfalls, local beaches sampling local food with jerk chicken being one of our favourites. Yvonne would call and check we were OK and if we needed anything it was always available and nothing was ever too much trouble for anyone. My husband had a great time talking to the cook Alma about top cookery tips which he still uses today so I am now grateful to Norse Hill for sharing local recipes which I still benefit from here in England The third visit last year for the Marlin Fishing competition, which ended up being during hurricane season! Many stories from this trip as there were a few of us staying at the house during that time and as the staff prepared for the hurricane to come through Port Antonio there was nothing more to do than remain locked in and drink rum in true Jamaican style as we had a lock in!. The hurricane was scary as you can imagine but after it went through the town the smiles and warmth of everyone still shone through.
Norse Hill is a five star experience on every level. The castle has an old world feel with new amenities and it is impeccably maintained. It is surrounded by a gorgeous lawn and pool overlooking the ocean, and the lawn is surrounded by incredible botanical gardens. The gardens have long walking paths and are composed of plants from all over the world... simply exquisite. It is a magical place. The rooms have beautiful dark hardwoods, white linens and open up to the mountain/ocean breezes. All of our meals were authentic Jamaican cuisine prepared by their gracious staff and were absolutely delicious! It is a short drive to the local market, beach, restaurant and waterfalls. This is an amazing luxury family vacation or couples retreat. I look forward to returning one day!
Right from the start I could tell this was going to be one of the best vacations I've ever had. The house and views were gorgeous; be it from the onsite private botanical gardens to the crystal blue ocean views. There is something for every age group in this beautiful home. Events such as beach horseback riding, surfing, river rafting, boating, and snorkeling are just a few of the many activities we did. All of which were extremely cheap to do and exceeded our every expectation. The staff also went above and beyond making us feel welcome and care free doting on our every need. After our stay I realized that when I now envision paradise it is this home that comes to mind.
My husband and I spent a week here for our honeymoon and our expectations were far exceeded. We were greeted by warm and professional staff, had delicious local fare cooked for us each day, woke up to amazing views, took beautiful walks together through the secluded and absolutely unbelievable tropical "garden" (more like a garden of Eden), lay in the hammock with drinks while dinner was being prepared, and had a knowledgeable and friendly driver shuttle us to all the must-sees nearby. We were walking distance to exclusive Geejam Hotel (literally just minutes walking down the hill from the house) where we'd have sunset drinks and hang out if we wanted to socialize (there's a recording studio at Geejam in case that's up your alley). All in all, the Norse Hill estate is greater than the sum of its parts: all of these amenities are necessary for me to explain here but you really must stay there to experience the magic of that place. I would go back in a heartbeat.
My husband and I enjoyed a week's stay with friends at Norse Hill. We could take a dip in the pool, read a book under the gorgeous life tree, or walk through the beautiful gardens surrounding the house. We ventured out to hike to breathtaking waterfalls, take a relaxing river raft trip, and shopped in nearby Port Antonio. But, we loved the luxury of a staff that took care of everything, from providing great meals featuring local cuisine to driving us down to the beaches and to the local church service. The house was stocked with plenty of games inside and out - and had so much room that you could slip away by yourself or enjoy several areas with your friends. This was a special trip for us to a very relaxing little piece of heaven on earth!
Our family had a wonderful three weeks at Norse Hill; the staff is pleasant and very attentive. The meals were outstanding and the gardens well maintained and quite extensive. Although we value our privacy, there was much to do in the neighborhood: beaches (especially Frenchman's Cove, one of the more beautiful spots in the country), rafting, waterfalls and of course Woody's the local watering hole. The house is gracious and the rooms large with spacious out door areas. The library is well stocked and a fun place to poke about during a rainy day. [You can leave the library on a rainy day since several of the outdoor areas are covered.] As mentioned, the chef was so good we did not go out to restaurants: why bother? Yes, this is a difficult place to get to and you will need a car, but from our perspective it is worth it. The wifi is spotty but it works. And like many houses, this needs constant work and repairs but nothing that interferes with a visit (as opposed to living there full time). We look forward to a return visit.
