This renovated historic cottage has a large outdoor dining deck on Groveland Creek, a stroll away from downtown Groveland with everything this historic town has to offer. Within a few blocks you can find, restaurants, bars, coffee shops, gallery, library, store, post office, meat market, playground and EV charging stations. All this is only 25 miles from Yosemite. Next door to the house is Mountain Sage Cafe, Gallery and Gardens where you can enjoy a coffee and meet locals.
If you are a history buff, you are in the right home. The house was built by my grandfather with his own hands for my grandmother in 1938. Its wooden interior was warmed by many guests over the years, with most the time spent lounging on the grape laden patio over the creek. Fruit trees and gardens adorn the property, as well as specialty items like down comforters, fresh coffee, and other touches to welcome the Yosemite traveler. Robb Hirsch original fine photography of the area graces the contemporary nature based-interior, making the home a quaint spot for a family and friends to take in a getaway in the Yosemite gateway. High speed wireless makes getting work done on the patio a snap. Full kitchen amenities are ready for a gathering of six with lots of storage to put it all away for your stay. Yosemite maps and tips of our favorite off the beaten path places are at your fingertips.

We had a great week at the cottage 9/16 to 9/23. Very convenient location to Yosemite. Literally take 2 roads to get to the gate. Cute little town with several restaurants, grocery and coffee shops. Cottage was super clean and well stocked. Very comfortable. Easy check in and convenient combo lock on door. Overall a perfect place to stay to visit Yosemite.
We really enjoyed our stay in Groveland. The house had everything we wanted in the morning, the beds were comfortable, and we appreciated that it was walking distance from several restaurants and the grocery store in town. The check-in process was extremely easy, and we received detailed and accurate instructions from the owner. We didn’t really use it for this purpose, but the house also looked like a great people to hang out and cook if you wanted to spend some time resting and relaxing there. I would highly recommend to anyone looking to explore the north Yosemite area!
We loved the story behind the home. It was very charming and comfortable.
Beautiful cabin. Well stocked and very clean. Len was incredibly helpful to us!
Location is near a lot of the places to eat down town. It was clean and had plenty of amenities.
Very easy to find and walking distance to everything in town. We enjoyed our stay and plan on returning someday.
We just had Thanksgiving at Van’s Cottage and it was perfect. Stocked with hand mixer, blender, bullet chopper to grind coffee beans, convection oven and smaller upper “pie” oven, microwave, ice cube trays, pots and pans, cooking utensils. Everything needed to make a great Thanksgiving meal. Even 1 pie plate. No tea kettle, but I just boiled water on the stove and then moved it to the 10cup coffee maker to keep hot. The bedrooms and bathroom all run down the right side of the house. Nice separation for 3 couples. Center/back of the house is the laundry room, left of the back bedroom. The bathroom and middle bedroom are off of the back hallway and kitchen. Living room is in the front center and left side with the front bedroom off the living room. There is a wood burning stove insert that we used every night. Wood is expensive. Dining room is on the left side of the house, off the kitchen and open to the living room. The back patio is large and beautiful - accessed from the dining room slider laundry/back door. Off-street Parking for 2 cars. The road up the mountain is very curvy but there is another road, Old Priest Access, that is a straight (very steep) road from the Priest Restaurant and is better for people that get car sick. The car navigator NEVER offers it as an option. Local secret? The dog park in the area is not worth it. $20 for an annual pass to get a code and you must show your rabies vaccination. The park is small. Instead, google walking trails outside Oak Flat Entrance to Yosemite-MANY great places to walk and let my dog run off leash. We left our dog at Big Creek Boarding for one day so we could hike in Yosemite. Friendly and accommodating! We used this house as home base and then explored other mountain towns in the area. Loved Sonora with a great historic downtown. Lots of boutiques and restaurants. All dog friendly and there is a wonderful walking trail/converted railroad track. Dragoon Gulch Trailhead, that is super close to downtown Sonora. Christmas in Sonora is BEAUTIFUL. The town is decked out with decorations and the Red Church is STUNNING. Groveland is cute but a VERY small town center with just a few thrift stores, 1 grocery store. 2 little shops and a couple of smallbars and pretty old hotels from the early 1900’s. There are hotels closer to the Yosemite entrance. Not sure of the quality, but they are closer. We liked being able to walk in the town so Van’s was the best place for us! Enjoy!!
Lovely home
The house has alot of history which is unique and they have kept original wood floors and charming fireplace. Overall it could use to TLC and you are goin to hear all road traffic since house sits just feet from road and doesn’t have much insulation. Very small town but coffee shop next door was great, we found supplies we needed at grocery store and the food at Iron Horse Saloon was some of the best we had on our 8 day road trip in California. Pros: charming, beds were comfy with nice linens, updated bathroom. Cons: evidence of mice in cupboards, road noise and lights.
This was a great location for a group of people to get acclimated and organized for our Yosemite camping trip. It was super convenient. The house is lovely with comfortable beds for 3 couples, and a great outdoor space!
Nice older 1938 home right on the main street. Very glad there were 2 AC with the recent heatwave. Good location on the way to Yosemite. Great pizza restaurant is a 30 second walk away.
