Holetown, Saint James
Melograno is a majestic newly renovated house modernized to exacting standards located on the edge of Sandy Lane and close to all West coast Barbados amenities. The villa has the feel of an Architectural Digest front cover and the fittings to back it up including tile, kitchen, bathrooms, furniture all imported from Italy. The home is wired to meet the needs of the 21st century business traveler and their family with high speed internet in every room and available on the patio.
Most of the activity however centers around the open plan family room and kitchen and the outside terrace off the living room where there is plenty of space for alfresco living and dining as you overlook the attractive pool. There are four bedrooms with two having on suite bathrooms and the master bathroom with air conditioning. There is a third bathroom servicing a Jack and Jill style layout for two further bedrooms. Set in an acre of private grounds with parking Melograno is ideal for family and guest entertaining and includes a maid in the rate. The property is next door to Sandy Lane Golf Club and the world-renowned Sandy Lane Hotel, and a stone’s throw away from all the 5* restaurants and boutiques on the famous platinum west coast.
Renovation
The house was meticulously renovated from top to bottom in 2017. Renowned local architect Peter Sandiford led the architectural design with construction completed by local builder Paul Rapson. Designer Sophie Domenge imported the Italian tiles that run throughout the property and DillonAmberDane installed the Scavolini kitchen with top of the line SMEG appliances and furniture from Caligaris in Italy.
What’s Unique
The uniqueness of Melograno beyond the modern, open layout is its location. Walk five minutes to the South and you are at the Sandy Lane Golf Club and beaches. Five minutes to the North you reach Sunset Crest shops and coffee houses. Walk a little further and you reach the Supercenter supermarket and Lime Grove high end shops and five-star restaurants.
Location
Melograno sits on top of a small ridge a stone’s throw from the beaches but does not have direct views of the beach. Whilst this affords easy access to all the great amenities of the West Coast the property is adjacent to the coast road. This does not affect guests that want to be close to the coast and the beaches, but it may be a concern for those that want absolute solitude and wish to be away from the hustle and bustle of the coast.
Getting Around
Melograno’s location affords great access to everything on the island. Every West coast beach including Sandy Lane, Holetown, Colony Club, Gibbs, Mullins and Port St. Charles beaches are within walking distance or a five to ten-minute drive. Bridgetown and the world class beaches of the South Coast are a 30 min drive by hire car or guests can take advantage of the amazing bus service which serves the entire island from a bus stop located just across the road.
The Owners
Alan is British and Karen Barbadian. They live in Florida, USA with their three teenage children. Alan and Karen renovated Melograno in 2017 as a second home. They wanted their home to be open, modern and within walking distance to everything; Beaches and Golf at Sandy Lane, coffee and brunch at Café Moya in Sunset Crest and the boutiques and five-star restaurants at Lime Grove. Yoga classes are a hop skip and a jump across the road at SunshineKula Yoga and the islands most magnificent coastal views await after a brisk morning walk up neighboring Molineux Hill.
We had a wonderful 2 week stay at Melograno! The house is amazing! It was very clean and spotless. Lots of high end finishings and appliances. We really enjoyed sitting on the patio by the pool, watching the monkeys and the birds. This house is conveniently located just down the road from the Massey grocery store and lots of shopping and restaurants. It's only a 5-10 minute walk to the beaches. We highly recommend this house!
Melograno is a lovely, well-appointed home, conveniently located on the West Coast of Barbados. My family and I enjoyed eight nights there over the New Year's Eve holiday. There were five of us who were easily accommodated by the four bedrooms, each with air conditioning. The large, quiet ceiling fans in the common spaces kept the air circulating and the space comfortable. The property was very clean and during our stay the home was cleaned by a woman hired by the owner. We enjoyed the lovely swimming pool in the backyard and easy access to several beaches, all within walking distance. None of the beaches were crowded though all had a few other swimmers or sun bathers, so swimming felt safe. Melograno has state of the art appliances including an espresso machine that spoiled us on a daily basis (fortunately the owner's manuals were available to reference). We prepared several meals at home and enjoyed great restaurants all within walking distance of the home. There is a grocery store within walking distance too. Our bed was so comfortable that my husband suggested that we replace ours at home with the same that we enjoyed there. We partook in yoga classes across the street from Melograno, including one at sunrise on the beach. We swam in the ocean in our yoga clothes at the end of class. We did not rent a car. We used a driver recommended by the homeowner on one occasion and several other times arranged to be picked up and dropped off at The Club Barbados, conveniently located nearly across the street from Melograno. Alan, the homeowner, was attentive and tremendously helpful. He was easily accessible and very responsive when we reached out with questions both prior to our arrival and while we were staying in his home. His answers were spot on. I cannot say enough good things about Barbados and Melograno. I had imagined that this trip was a once in a lifetime visit; however, all of us enjoyed ourselves so much that we will try to make this a frequent vacation spot.
