Owners of The Star Lodge went out of their way to make you feel at home. Fully equipped kitchen on the first floor, large sitting areas both inside and outside, room TV with pre-installed Netflix and Amazon Video, and many other details which make you forget that you are staying at a hotel. Add a gorgeous view on the hills, proximity to the town (Custer is just 5 minutes away) and you won't even consider any other place.
We had no idea where to stay and when I came across pictures of this lodge I knew this was it. We arrived and we were greeted by Deb as we were checking the place out before we went to look for our room. Very sweet lady! It was soooo relaxing to come back at night after our adventures to relax on the front porch! Don’t hesitate book this lodge now!! We will definitely be back!
Easy check in process as we arrived late at night and owner left instructions for us. We used this location as a base to go see the sights - Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer State Park, Jewel and Wind Caves, etc. instead of staying in Keystone or Rapid City. The room is smaller like hotel style but perfect for only 2 people. Only slight negative is room is on second floor so harder with a lot of luggage. The house was on outskirts of the town of Custer which we liked, but close to restaurants and shops. Loved going to Calamity Jane for coffee/breakfast each morning which was just down the road. Would stay again!
Pulling into the driveway, you see a beautiful home with flowers and a big front porch inviting you to relax in the chairs or swing! The moment you walk in, you are welcomed by Deb into a charming, spacious place with her awesome hospitality. We were blessed to meet and visit her dad Rolly and brother Brian who were visiting, daughter's Landon and Quinn and friend Brian who help Deb keep the home clean and comfortable. All the bedrooms have been updated within a year and ours was perfect! Bed was comfortable and had everything we needed including a bonus toilet with bidet! Pool table den and back porch with grill to use! Kitchen is clean and has anything you will ever need. We would 100% recommend using this home for your entire stay making day trips to Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer State Park ( Where we saw lots of buffalo!), Black Hills and Wind Cave National Parks among so many other things to do! You will feel right at home!
Everything was nice & clean
We enjoyed our stay and would certainly stay again. Room and property was extremely clean. Space was small, but had everything we needed.
Great property and even better people!
We fell in love with this area of our beautiful America....and also with the new property owner. Deb and her family recently bought this lodge and are working to make it their own and are constantly striving to improve it for future guests. Kingsize bed was super comfortable and the kitchen, dining area, and porch were easily accessible and enjoyable. Deb provided fruit, muffins, snacks, coffee, and tea on a regular basis which we enjoyed. She bent over backwards to make our stay GREAT and to try and accommodate our needs. We highly recommend this property for your Custer Experience. Blessings to you and yours Deb. We will see you again soon.
This property is great for day trips out from Custer.
This was a wonderful surprise. I really was not sure what to expect but the rooms were lovely, newly redone and comfortable. We had no air conditioning but the evenings were quite cool making for comfortable sleep. The front porch was a peaceful and relaxing spot to have coffee and fresh muffins in the morning. There are rooms on all three levels with easy access. Check in was simple and there were treats waiting for us. Our king bed was super comfortable and the furnishings were very nice. The lodge had a huge gathering/living room with a very fun vibe. Several guests were playing card games. The kitchen was HUGE and offered all we needed. I was not sure if we could prepare our own food but it appeared to be an option. I would certainly stay here again. Well worth the money! They also offer camper hook ups and many other amenities.
