Hyannis, Massachusetts
Escape year-round to this charming bungalow for a well-deserved break. Lovingly refurbished to reflect a marine sanctuary, it’s perfect for a family vacation or solitary retreat. Custom-built in the 1930’s by Brad Norris for his wife’s “summer business”, it sports hardwood floors throughout with fine woodwork accents.
Quaint and comfortable, you will find all the amenities of home with the simple things of life at your fingertips and footsteps. Pull into our oyster-shelled driveway, unpack, and take a walk up to the Hyannis Port Golf Club for the spectacular sunset over Squaw Island. Walk to Sea Street Market for sundries, snacks, newspapers and newspapers.
We are a 3-minute walk to serene Sea Street Beach, with Picnic Area, Bath House and Snack Bar. We’ve watched osprey dive for minnows there at low tide! The popular beaches: Veteran’s, Kalmus, (ideal winds for the best sail boarding in New England), and Craigville, are short hops away.
Check with local businesses to be sure they are open and accommodating people safely. Main Street restaurants feature casual and fine dining with daily catches from local fishing vessels. Visit the Hyannis Harbor Docks to see fish and lobsters being off-loaded, while you shop at the local artisan kiosks. Popular restaurants dot Ocean Street and offer a view of Hyannis Harbor.
Nightlife abounds and cinemas feature box office greats. Enjoy summer theater performances at The Cape Playhouse and unique foreign films shown at The Cape Cod Art Museum. Farm-fresh food is available through “Edible Cape Cod” farm members and Farmer’s Markets. Agri-Tourism farms bring back times past with “Pick Your Own” options, tours, hikes, hayrides and workshops. The local wineries host tastings to showcase specialty wines.
Treat yourself to a quiet home base from which to explore the whole Cape, including the Massachusetts Cultural Coast. Be really “Green”, bring your bikes and ride the bike trails for miles through The Cape Cod National Seashore and beyond. "Cape Cod Rails to Trails" will give you a great workout with views of cranberry bogs, marshes, and ocean panoramas. Go fishing for trout, smallmouth bass, chain pickerel and bluegill at one of the 365 kettle hole ponds, or surf cast off Dennis Beach.
Private and public golf courses are minutes away and across town, historic Route 6A will pique your architectural and antique sweet tooth. We are 45 minutes from historical Provincetown, where you can experience the sand dunes, sunset horseback rides, and shop for unique art and entertainment.
Whether this is your summer vacation or a spur of the moment getaway during the winter, leave your cares at home. Come read, write a book, finish a project, sketch, or photograph the beauty of the ocean and its environs. Off-season, short stays for weddings, conferences, and business are also available. Lovely bungalow in a great location to beaches and downtown Hyannis. Great communication with owner! Owner went the extra mile to provide a pack and play and high chair for our daughter. We all enjoyed our stay and would book again! Thanks!
Sweet spot. Great communication. Especially love the outdoor shower and short walk to the beach. Hyannis is a cool little town and also an easy walking distance.
This location and property was simply perfect for our needs. For us, everything we wanted was within walking distance. Keep in mind, we did plan on driving to some spots, so do a bit of research first to see where you may want to visit if not familiar with the Cape. No two beaches or towns are alike. Each has it's own flavor which may or may not coincide with the experience you are looking for. There is certainly a flavor to match, but, like I said, research a bit to find it. This was our second trip to the Cape (went last year as well). This trip, we wanted option to cook/grill and to do laundry. One of our favorite spots for fresh seafood is the Chatam Fish Market. Ironically, this trip, with all of the beaches to visit and little towns to walk through, we ended up not even cooking... we did get a fish fry from the Market however. :)
My family and I had a great stay at Norris cottages! Home was exactly as described, was very clean, had everything we needed and the check in process was easy. Elaine and John were very helpful and informative before, throughout and at the end of our trip. They made sure we had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. Would definitely recommend a stay here!!
We loved our stay at Norris St. 3 min walk to beach and all the beach chairs/toys you could think of. They loved the boogie board!
We were visiting family in the Barnstable area. What a great location! A quiet neighborhood, short walk to the beach, a cute and cozy classic cottage with everything you need. King bed was very comfortable, the kitchen had plenty of room and all we needed for prepping some family dinners. We enjoyed the deck for leisurely reading and late afternoon happy hours. Communication with Elaine was easy. I'm sorry our visit did not overlap with theirs so we did not meet, but we will be back!
I took my children (ages 23, 20 and 17) to the Cape for Thanksgiving for a change and it could not have been more lovely! The house was immaculate, easy access, plenty of parking and the kitchen was large and fully stocked with anything we needed. It was a 5 minute walk to the beach, 5 min drive to Main Street, and central to all places down the Cape to go visit. It was heaven for my son that loves to go birding. Elaine and John were the ultimate hosts with excellent communication and directions. I would definitely come back down this little sanctuary!
Enjoyed the proximity to shops, restaurant, beach, and harbor! Host was quick to respond with any questions, large kitchen was well stocked, and great to have laundry available.
My family and I had a wonderful experience at our Cape Cod bungalow. The hosts were excellent and the property was perfect for my family of five (5). The proximity to the beach, shops, restaurants, and harbor was a huge benefit during our stay. I would recommend this property to friends and family without reservation. Thank you Elaine and John for hosting our vacation. Cheers!
We had a great stay in this comfortable and peaceful cottage! All the beaches were within 1/4 to 1-2 miles from the house. Town was about a mile or so away. The house was clean and very well stocked. Highly recommend staying here!
It is a lovely comfortable house, in a good location. It was really great place to explore Cape Cod from and very close to a small beach.
Perfect cottage, close to beach, the owners are lovely and communicate quickly with any questions!
