In June on Father's Day weekend come see the famous bike races down the middle of town. In July we have three 'Summer Nights', the last three Wednesdays in the month. The streets are closed to traffic and lined with food and craft vendors.
In July is the return of the Worldfest with 8 stages of music, children's programs, workshops, dance, artisans and international food.
Don't miss the Bluegrass Festival, Music In The Mountains, Halloween, Mardi Gras, Fall colors, etc., etc., etc.
Enjoy Victorian Christmas, the first three Wednesday nights, and the last Sunday before Christmas. You'll find artisans, food vendors and all the shops open late. The gas streetlights, Victorian carolers, and friendly merchants make this the place to visit and shop for the holidays.
Area: The Yuba River, with many deep pools and massive smooth boulders is only minutes from our home. A beautiful trail meanders along its banks for miles.
Lake Vera is a small lake surrounded by summer camps. Our cabins are located on 5 acres next to Camp Augusta. In the summer months (late May to mid August) you can hear 'happy camp sounds' as children enjoy swimming, zip lining and singing around the camp fire, then off to bed by 9:30, quiet hour.
We want your lodging experience to be most enjoyable. Part of that enjoyment comes from selecting the vacation property that best fits your needs. Mama Bear’s Cabin was built in 1985 and is 650 sq. ft., a good space for 2 to 4 people. The style is simple, clean and unpretentious. The kitchen is equipped with all the basics you need for cooking, but if you are a gourmet chef, this may not be the place for you. Some of the dishes are hand made pottery. Not everything matches. There is no dishwasher. Garbage needs to be disposed of carefully to avoid attracting those wild critters. Collecting compost scraps and recycling is required, and a conservative energy usage strongly encouraged. There is no central heat. There is a hearth stove, a wall furnace. and a window air conditioner. Please feel free to contact us at any time should you have questions or concerns.
My friend & I fell in love at first sight with Mama Bear's cabin. Everything --all the lovely touches in decor, the sweet bears throughout, artful lamps & beautiful quilts --all of this shows so much care and loving attention. The setting is gorgeous. I loved looking out at the brilliant green pines with sunlight filtering through. Rene and Drue have furnished the cabin generously, with everything one could need to feel cozy, comfortable, welcome, and well cared-for. Thank you so much! We hope to return.
The cabin is so cute, cozy, and has personal touches.
This is a wonderful, clean, cozy place to stay. You feel like you’re far from town, but you’re really not, so it’s perfect for a getaway stay!!
Second time I’ve stayed here. Always quiet and peaceful
Really cute little cabin on a nice quiet spot. Was clean and the fireplace was a really welcome addition as it was cold and wet when I was there, I imagine the propery would be really pretty if there were leaves on the tress and it wasnt the wettest CA year in history but even the dog enjoyed running around the yard in the rain. A really nice spot to get away for a few days.
Everything was great and beds were more comfortable than I expected! Loved/hated the lack of internet BUT that’s perfect for forcing some unplugged time with your family 3
Great place! Peaceful setting and close to town.
It was a cute log cabin a bit off the beaten path and cozy.
This is the third time staying at the cabin. We enjoy just hanging out and walking around the property. Plenty of places in the nearby town to eat, drink, and be happy. As the owner states this is not the place for someone that plans to do a lot of cooking. If you do bring your favorite pans, etc. Thank you for sharing your beautiful cabin.
The space is exactly as described. The bed was very comfortable and the important things ( sheets, counters, bathroom) were very clean. There is no dishwasher, which is fine, however that means you rely that the guest before you washed dishes well. We pulled out a few that had food stuck on them so we washed every dish before we used it. It’s the woods, so bugs are expected. I did kill 3 spiders inside in one day. If that’s an issue for you this may not be the best choice.
The cabin was just right not too big and not too small and it’s location was outstanding
We had a terrific time here. The cabin is well appointed. Great setting. Close to town. And the grandkids came for a visit and went to Purdon Crossing to swim in the river Great vacation. Didn’t want to leave Thank you Drue and Rene
My man and I love staying here! Such a cozy cabin and the river not to far. We had an amazing weekend and can’t wait to be back!
We drove down from Idaho for a family reunion in Sacramento and absolutely LOVED staying in this cabin. The scenery, the atmosphere and the cabin were perfect and just what we needed.
Great location to relax and unwind at. Close to Independence Trail for a nice hike. A place to take a break from social media and reminisce with lifelong friends. Plan to return next year to this cozy cabin.
Wonderful Easter weekend. Thank you for having us. Hoping to stay again soon
It was a pleasure to stay at this cabin. It was cozy and well appointed. Excellent amenities.
I was taking care of details on a new house construction. During my off time, retreating here was great.
From the moment that me & my husband got to the cabin we felt peace. The mama bear cabin is a quaint comfortable space. We spent some of time hanging in the hot tub which totally relaxed our aches. Waking in the morning to no outside noises was great. The amenities provided are everything you need except for food & personal items. The cute little touches all over the cabin like the owners hand made pottery and bear details were really fun. We will definitely be back and would love to bring the family too!
This was our second stay at Mama Bear Cabin (came in January and booked again right away) . It's such a beautiful spot in the woods. The location is ideal; feels very remote and peaceful, yet close to the sweet little town of Nevada City. It was a girl's weekend, me, my dog Chloe, my friend Connie and her dog Dora. We switched bedrooms this trip so I now have enjoyed both and have to say they are extremely comfy and the beds are great. We love our little 'home away from home' and look forward to our next visit! Thank you Rene and Drue....we wouldn't change a thing!
Cute little two bedroom (plus loft) log cabin with a gas hearth stove. We just came to get away for a couple days and it did the trick. Very quiet. Beautiful woods. Nearby camp wasn’t in session, not sure it would have disturbed even if it were in session. Relaxed in the hot tub a bit (Pro tip for any property’s hot tub: learn how to use it before dark :-) ). No cell service. Slow internet as mentioned and addressed - just the way we liked it. But if you want to watch anything, bring/download it from home). Nevada City nearby was very cute with restaurants and a nice stroll. Grass Valley also not far, where we bought a few groceries. But when you’re at the cabin they are nowhere to be heard or seen. Little instructive notes posted to help you figure things out inside. Elite? No. Cute, cozy and relaxing for us? Yes. Thank you for a nice visit.
It was absolutely perfect. I took my mom to the cabin so we could see Nevada City. The cabin was warm and friendly and the hosts were willing to do anything. We will be back
