Santa Cruz, California
Summary:
Oceanviews of Seabright Beach from this classic California beach house!
The Space:
Cypress-by-the-Sea is one of the original oceanside vacation cottages in the wonderful Seabright beach neighborhood of Santa Cruz. This pet friendly ocean view home is just three houses up from the sands of Seabright beach! This historic home has been thoughtfully updated while retaining some vintage charm. This two story house has three bedrooms, and two baths. There is a separate living room, dining room, and laundry room off of the kitchen. There is plenty of space in this house for the family to gather after a fun day at the beach!
One dog is allowed with property manager approval and the payment of $100 non-refundable pet fee.
There are also several restaurants and cafes all within walking distance of this house, as well as Seabright Beach!
Very nice stay-easy access to beach and off street parking.
As others noted in their review, this is a cute house with an older vibe. It was was warm so no central heat was OK. Baths clean; the kitchen was well-appointed, but it's a quirky/old house. Good price for our family of 6 (two adults, two 13-year-old twin boys, and my senior parents). We had a good table to eat at, each of us had decent beds to sleep on, and two full bathrooms made it easier for us to be together. We also liked being so close to the beach. I sat on the deck a few afternoons and had a nice glass of wine. We also loved that it was just 15 min from the beach boardwalk. Wish they spent $ to update living room;furniture is sparse (just two chairs and a smallish couch. The backyard is just also OK. Pretty small, no hot tub, and the furniture is old and rusted (just four metal chairs and a metal table). Not too appetizing to sit back there. They should at least have a functioning umbrella in the back yard for folks to sit during the day and maybe update the furniture. The charcoal BBQ was also just OK. We cooked in the stove and on the stovetop indoors, mostly. Hallie was responsive! for the price (under 600 before fees, taxes; More like 900/night w fees, taxes, etc.), it was decently priced for the area. In the future, I might splurge for a house with more amenities and a hot tub as the ocean is cold and it's nice to come back to a hot tub and a yard that makes it appetizing to sit in and enjoy the ocean breeze. Still, we had a great stay overall!
Great home! Close to the beach. We had a great time.
Loved the house (which is old) and the location - we had a great time. Looking forward to our next visit.
We stayed 3 amazing nights. It was a 50-75 walk to the beach, the house was incredibly clean and fully stocked and it was spacious. No central heating but it wasn't an issue because of the heaters placed around and the gas fireplace. We were there on a very cold night and were very warm and cozy inside. We are planning to go back!
This is a great location. Close to Seabright beach, the boardwalk, and dining. House is charming. Only heat source is fireplace and space heaters. Not a deal breaker but wasn’t aware.
Great location and cute house
We had a great time at the house. Location was awesome. It is creaky and old but in a charming beach cottage way. We loved out time there and will be back:)
House is very close to Seabright Beach. Walked there & to the Boardwalk as well as to town for dinner & breakfast. Location was fantastic! House is old & needs maintenance. An upstairs window wouldn’t close at all & because we didn’t know this when we attempted my hand went right through the rotted wood. Doors stick, don’t close, are extremely loud meaning someone attempting to enter/exit a bedroom is likely to wake up the neighboring room. There were heaps of towels & linens provided which was nice! Beach towels available. None of the rooms have blackout drapes so we hung extra blankets/duvets from the curtain rods. Was fine but if you’re super light sensitive when attempting to sleep I would make sure to have an eye mask. Beds very uncomfortable. Mattresses & possibly frames are due to be replaced. House is over 100 years old, doesn’t mean everything inside must be! It was a great base location for playing in Santa Cruz. We left a night early bc no one slept through the night the previous two nights & we decided to hit the road & finally get some sleep at home.
We loved the location of the house. It was very easy to access, and the house decor is lovely.
Location is awesome and the owners have made some improvements in the house. We fully enjoyed our trip.
The house and location was perfect. Would definitely recommend for the future.
My sister and I really enjoyed staying here. When the beach got to windy we found the chairs on the front porch the perfect place to read a good book and enjoy the sunshine. This next part is only for the owners: it would be so much better to have a mirror in the bathroom and have it near an outlet. Using a blow drier or curling iron is impossible! Also the tub is very slippery and could use a rubber mat for safety.
Very happy with my choice from check in to check out the process was seamless. The photos online represent the property well. I highly recommend the beach front cottage.
Pros!: Very good communication with owners/company. Plenty of towels/linens with beach chairs and lots of amenities between the washer/dryer and full kitchen. Very cute and cozy. Wonderful short walk to the beach and good view of it from the porch. Our only recommendation would be to have more living room furniture. Cons: Only complaint we’d have is it was difficult to get a good water temp in the showers-it was either boiling hot or cold and sometimes never hot and just lukewarm. Also the upstairs king bed did have a tilt to your left but it was still comfortable so wasn’t a huge deal for us. Overall, cute cozy place and would definitely recommend and stay again!
Property is dated and description is not complete. There is no central heat and host provides multiple space heaters to warm areas. There is one thermostatically controlled gas fireplace. Many electrical outlets were two prong (not 3 prong grounded) and were so old plugs would not stay inserted. There is a master bath but it is reached thru the living/dining room/kitchen and is not connected to the 1st floor bedroom. The tub temperature could not be successfully adjusted so we had to share the 2nd floor bath. The house was otherwise clean and comfortable but in my opinion the listing was missing important details. We are still waiting for the manager to call us.
The house in Santa Cruz looks like a storybook cottage and the location couldn’t be better… right across the street from the beach and a short 1/2 mile walk on the beach to the lighthouse in one direction and also a short walk in the other direction to the Santa Cruz boardwalk. House is charmingly decorated and check in process was easy. House does not have central heating—only space heaters, so it can get very chilly. The bed in the upstairs bedroom (king) has a slant on one side, so it was difficult to sleep comfortably. Recommend a new mattress immediately. Two of the floor rugs upstairs lack rug tape on them to hold them in place, so we frequently tripped over them. The doorknob on the 2nd bedroom upstairs is loose. Bathrooms are nice and loved sitting on the porch in the afternoon. It was lovely. We did no cooking, but kitchen is fine and enjoyed the gas fireplace in the small entry living room. The property is very nice, but owners should upgrade the mattress and take care of maintenance issues right away.
Loved the proximity to everything, especially the beach.
We love Seabright Beach and have stayed at four different vacation rentals nearby, primarily in this particular house. What you should know - it is old and quirky. If that is a deal-killer for you, pick another property (there are bigger and newer alternatives). If what matters to you is daily walks on the beach and waking up to the sound of the surf, seagulls and sea lions, then you'll be happy here.
