We were 3 families with 9 kids in total and we thoroughly enjoyed the property plus all the amenities it offered. Communication with both the manager and owner were top notch. If you need an easy space for those that live living on and near the water, this is the spot for you.
We had a great visit. There were 17 of us total and there was plenty of room for everyone to spread out or to be together. The additional full kitchen in the basement suite was a game changer and we loved it. Communication with the host was great. One of the TVs wasn't working and they got it working for us within a few hours. Had a couple of random questions that we texted and they responded quickly. Nice area of the lake and plenty of yard to enjoy the beauty of the surroundings.
I’ll begin with the positives: nice location, plenty of parking, quiet cove, amazing water temp! But here are the negatives: main couches, carpets and upholstered chairs were filthy; kitchen cabinets were filthy and disorganized; one cabinet door had a broken hinge; bar stools were loose and wobbly; oven front glass was taped on and the right front burner didn’t work; inside of the microwave was filthy; fridge was missing all its door shelves and there were clear containers Velcro taped on; screen over the sink window was caked with dirt; downstairs kitchen had mice droppings in the cabinets & drawers/mice in the basement; captains chair of the boat was broken and fell over when it was touched; boat awning was broken and rusted; upper boat dock railing was rickety along with the ladder on the dock to get out of the water; some deck boards were replaced but many are rotting. We spoke with the owner & her excuses were, “It was the previous renters” or “My maid is not good and I can’t find a better one”. The owner did replace the oven & the dryer(not sure why) but all of her efforts to “help” kept us from being able to enjoy the lake more. We spent the first 3 days cleaning, organizing and fixing all the things wrong in the kitchen and cleaning the furniture. My husband fixed the boat chair. We did a LOT of work on our vacation. She did return some of what we payed. It’s clear these issues were long standing and didn’t “just happen”. Upkeep and safety should be foremost!
Very big house and held all of us very well.the a/c works phenomenally SONDRA and Lupita we’re very responsive and great to deal with and very professional.
Wonderful communication with owner, super nice and very helpful with anything we needed. House could use some fixing up with some things but nothing major. Beds were comfortable, which is a plus on vacation. Lots of room for large families and friends. Was great to have our pet with us. Dock area could use some fixing of old boards. Overall was a great week, loved the location and all the hours spent on the lake. Would definitely recommend a quiet wonderful stay here for anyone!
We had such a wonderful time here! My husband and I planned a small wedding ceremony, basically a step up from an elopement. Our friends stayed with us for the weekend and our parents rented another property close by, surprisingly they could’ve stayed at the house with us. It’s hard for such a large place to feel cozy or homey but it did! Everyone got to have their own adventure. While one group was kayaking to Grandmas island, others were playing fooseball and board games on the lower level, some were in the hot tub and some were resting upstairs. Each level brings its own adventure and the funky decor is a crowd pleaser. The host Sondra was amazing and very communicative! She made sure we had anything we could need! I hope to return! What a beautiful place to hold our intimate ceremony
We have been renting homes on Lake Gaston for about 8 years. Every house is unique, and we always enjoy the opportunity to get our family together for a special week. We had a nice week at this property. The house would probably be a 4 out of 5 if not for our interactions with the owner (listed below under “cons”). Pros: Air conditioning always kept the home cold Always plenty hot water. Two washers and dryers The house is on a great part of the lake Sandy beach is a very nice place to relax Rooms are spacious in the house We enjoyed the pool table Cons: The top deck of the boat house tends to wobble when you have more than a few people on it. There were broken boards on the boat house that were repaired toward the end of our week There were multiple minor electrical issues upstairs (multiple outlets that do not work in the loft, the circuit breakers pop daily if too many lights are turned on) The owner shows up to the property and enters the house unannounced with her own key. The owner called me & my family a profane name via text message when I submitted a list of items that needed to be corrected, followed by over 50 rambling and threatening text messages. This caused stress early on but we moved on, determined to have a wonderful vacation with our family. Would we rent it again? Probably not, only because of our interactions with the owner. This house was priced lower than other houses on the lake and we got exactly what we paid for. I hope you find this helpful
The house was perfect for our families to stay. Big open rooms. The property was beautiful. Walk out to the lake. Nice boat house. Little beach. The owner was super nice. I highly recommend this house for vacationers.
Its an amazing house and property! So much to do, so much to see. Lake location is perfect and the view of the lake from house is equally as nice. Communication was easy and they made me happy with any concerns immediately. We will absolutely be back! AC works great as we were there on a very HOT week.
First the good: This house fit the bill for our family vacation: six bedrooms and two dogs allowed. The two kitchens and two laundry rooms were great. The house was always cool, and there was plenty of hot water. The best feature is the lakeside of the house – shady, private cove with a sandy beach and a dock for fishing. We spent most of our days there. The three kayaks we rented were a lot of fun. There were a few problems: The lockbox is old, and it was challenging to get the key out. When we arrived, the fridge in the main kitchen was off. After a call to the owner, I was able to reset it in the fuse box. But the icemaker in that fridge never worked while we were there. In the same kitchen, one of the stove burners is out. On Tuesday, we discovered water flowing out of the septic tank, and later found the problem to be caused by a leaking toilet. The owner sent a handyman to fix it, but the same day, an alarm went off on the septic system. Contacted the owner again, and we later discovered the alarm/light was no longer flashing. Not sure what that means. The lights and ceiling fans are all a mystery, due to a combination of wall switches, pull chains and remotes that appear to control multiple lights/fans at once. In some places, we were never able to operate the fan light. Many remotes were broken or missing batteries. Of the three televisions in the main seating areas, only one worked. The remotes appear to be disconnected from the televisions they control. And if we had not known how Roku works, we would have been lost. The kitchens are very well equipped – multiple blenders, crock pots and coffee pots – but not well organized. When we arrived, the downstairs kitchen had virtually no dishes, silverware, or pots and pans. We gradually migrated downstairs the things we needed. A couple of other weird things: Friday night at 9:45, the owner dropped by unannounced to leave some appliances in the garage. Same thing on Saturday, but at dinner time. And the lawn guy started mowing at 6:45 am on Saturday. It would be helpful to have a “house manual” explaining things like how the televisions work, where the fuse box is, how it’s labeled, how the septic tank works, what to do if the alarm goes off, etc. You expect to have some minor problems with a vacation home used by different people each week. But this property clearly needs more attention.
