HISTORY:
The Flying Caballos Ranch was originally owned by the Alfred Madonna family in the early 1900's and encompassed several hundred acres, operating as a dairy farm. The Madonna's grew their own vegetables, vineyard, and orchard. They hunted deer and fished for salmon, all on the ranch. Currently, the ranch consists of approximately 100 acres with horse and cattle grazing, a year-round creek, and unobstructed views of Edna Valley and Islay Hill.
Stayed here with my kids and dog for a little family get away from So Cal. So peaceful here and the stay was comfortable. They had everything we needed and Sarah was awesome at responding. Thank you for having us.
We enjoyed our stay at this charming guest house. It was comfortable and convenient for us. We would love to return on our next trip to SLO.
This property was just magical and so charming. The house was very clean and the grounds well kept. It was nearby the wineries and still close to downtown. The host was incredibly helpful and welcoming. We hope to visit again in the future.
Great experience at Sarah’s property. So close to wineries and close enough to downtown! No issues and it was a fantastic weekend :) thanks!
Sarah’s property is amazing! My friends and I had such a nice time, the property is so peaceful and calming, but you are also so close to all of the San Luis Obispo amenities. We even walked to dinner one night! The house itself was so cute and really authentic, we had a great time just hanging out in the backyard and bbqing. Sarah was so easy to communicate with, I would highly recommend a stay at the Flying Caballos Ranch!
We came to this place for a little family vacation and it was perfect! Really clean on arrival and the kitchen had lots of new loo moo my amenities. Even though it’s a retro looking house, there were lots of mod cons. The linen was all super soft - and while we wished we’d brought our own former pillows - everything was really nicely furnished. The location felt quite remote when we drove in, with the payoff being the countryside, but we were actually quite close to town and nearby shops were only a few mins. The only surprise for us was how close the guest house was. With both houses being occupied, we were lucky the couple staying there we’re home much! We had a really lovely stay and would definitely stay again.
My family stayed in the guesthouse for a week long vacation. The setting of this ranch was unbelievable! We had views of large open fields and rolling hills one way, and views of vineyards from the back yard! The weather was perfect and we spent much of our time on the patio or playing games in the yard. The house is charming and comfortable with a slightly retro feel, and
First off, Krysta, the new innkeeper, is trying very hard to improve things. She was very attentive to our needs - they were many. The kitchen needed a lot of things (provided) and the beds needed mattress pads (provided). We also secured a flashlight from her and liners for drawers and cupboards. The housekeeping is suspect, as the cleanliness was sub-par (for ex., the vacuum cleaner barely worked). We also had to re-wash all dishes and would not use the sponge and scrubber provided. Lamps were dim, so hard to read in the livingroom. Also, this is a dog-friendly place, but the groundskeeper was placing poison around to combat ground squirrels; not a good thing for Fido. It's an ok overnight/weekend place, but we cannot recommend for a longer-term stay. That said, improvements are being made and Krysta's good efforts may make this a more desirable place very soon.
This review is for the Water Tower property on the Flying Caballos ranch. We enjoyed a special anniversary at the fun and charming Water Tower on the Flying Caballos ranch. (See website.) The unique three-level structure is cozy inside, but has a useful kitchen, comfy bed and top level with vineyard, mountain and ranch views. The finishes and details throughout are of a high and artistic standard, and the place was spotless. It is a perfect retreat for two (or one). Don't be hesitant about the outdoor shower, which is sufficiently enclosed and private, and boasts a large rainfall showerhead. Also, don't worry about the nearby airport. We did not find the occasional small and medium-sized airplanes intrusive, and there was no air traffic at night. From Flying Caballos we walked the grounds and even explored the adjoining vineyard. Ten minutes by car is lively and charming downtown SLO. We also must make special thanks to property manager Joleen, who was responsive, friendly and helpful throughout our experience. Thanks!
