WE HAVE GONE SOLAR! We have 20 solar panels and a Tesla Powerwall2 battery, plus we still are connected to the grid. No more issues with power outages! The house was totally repaired and repainted after Hurricane María and looks more beautiful than ever. It is ready for your next relaxing vacation in the tropics!
Vista Montemar is a comfortable two story house overlooking the Caribbean Sea in a serene and secure gated community. Two spacious L-shaped verandas and a rooftop terrace afford panoramic views and the best in outdoor living. Ceiling fans throughout the house and verandas plus a/c units in bedrooms and kitchen add to the comfort provided by the ocean breezes. Bask in the gorgeous tropical flora and be lulled to sleep by the sounds of coquís (Puerto Rican tree frogs) and island birds. In the quiet of the early morning or late evening, you can even hear the surf!
The kitchen comes fully equipped, the house is tastefully furnished, and has a separate, indoor laundry room.
Each of the three bedrooms has its own door leading to the second floor balcony, and window shades to block the early morning sun, if desired. The centrally located upstairs full bathroom is shared by all three bedrooms. There is also a powder room on the first floor, and an outdoor shower behind the house. Ample outdoor seating is provided in both covered verandas, as well as a hammock on the second story veranda. A spiral staircase leads to the rooftop terrace, where additional patio furniture and a huge umbrella create a relaxing environment in which to enjoy a cool drink amid stunning panoramic views by day and a starry sky by night.
The property is beautifully landscaped with all manner of tropical flora, including flamboyant trees (the official tree of Puerto Rico) and amapolas (the official flower). There is plenty of parking space within the gated property.
Our resident cat, Vera, is strictly an outdoor cat that lounges on the balconies and is fed twice daily by caring neighbors. Vera had been taken to a new home on the other side of Yabucoa, but found her way back to Vista Montemar after a year, and no one has the heart to relocate her again. Guests to Vista Montemar have welcomed and befriended Vera.
Wonderful time. House is great and fully equipped with pretty much anything you need. Wonderful outdoor veranda areas! Beautiful grounds, beach easily accessible however the waves were rather large, making the ocean unlikely to be enjoyed by a casual swimmer. There is also a neighboring beach a couple km up the road that is great with areas of more calm tide. Had one night without power however it came back up in a reasonable amount of time. Norma was most kind and helpful with directions and power issues, very quick in responding to needs and concerns! Cat on site, which owner disclosed, she was no problem at all. However neighbor has several barking dogs; they were occasionally annoying but not the home owners fault. First vrbo experience and it was great! Only thing that could make the house even more attractive for some would be having a pool. Thank you for sharing your home, hope to return in the future!
A grand time. The best part were the two wrap-around porches and the rooftop deck with views to grace the sea. There we welcomed the mornings with coffee, played gin rummy in the afternoon, and graced the evening stars with a toast to the night. There were no downsides to our stay. The grocery store in Yabucoa was well stocked with fresh meats and vegetables, the local folk were gracious, and the 80 degree weather couldn't be beat. Would we come back? - in a heartbeat. The reviews by those who were there before us fit the bill to a T. And Norma was always available by phone, though once we settled in, there was no need for her willing care.
We won't stay anywhere else in southern Puerto Rico! Walk to the beach, watch storms roll off the nearby mountains, relax on one of three porches. My boys loved running all over the grounds. I cannot recommend this place enough... but leave space for us on our return!
The home was nice, very much a family vacation home. It was close to a beach. The owner was great, helpful and nice during the registration process and check-in was easy. the home would be good for a larger family who was interested in a quiet place for an extended period of time. We are a couple, so it wasn't the best fit for us. Unfortunately the power does go out a lot on the island and it happened to us while there. We were unsure how to handle that. The location is a bit far from restaurants and other sites in Puerto Rico.
Such a lovely home with wrap around second storey veranda where we took most meals to enjoy the fragrant air and the ocean views. Tidy and comfortable with a well equipped kitchen. Loved the beautiful beach!
Norma, Thank you for letting us stay in your home, what a great location and awesome home. Since it rained during some of our stay we enjoyed sitting out on the porches enjoying the views! The house has a great layout and very comfortable for family and friends. I'm already dreaming about our next trip. The Murry's
We very much enjoyed our stay at Vista Montemar! It is located in a quiet area and also not far from a very beautiful beach that we spent a lot of time at! The views are also amazing...from the rooftop terrace to the second floor veranda where we spent our mornings and also some evenings, chatting, eating or simply enjoying the beauty. Norma is also very accommodating...she did great in helping us with questions that we had before the trip and also while we were at the house. We would advise you though, to plan to arrive during daylight hours, as it would be a bit of a challenge to find after dark . If you're looking for a quiet place for a refreshing vacation, this is definitely the place for you!
Very relax area close to the beach, friendly neighborhoods can help you with questions to find places around the area. House is very very clean and all appliances are working. Price is fear.
My family, close friends and I stayed in this beautiful place for our week in Puerto Rico, preparing for my wedding, and it couldn't have been more perfect. El Cocal neighborhood is one of the best places I've actually seen in PR, and we were all in awe anytime we stepped/looked outside and drove in/out of the neighborhood. The people we communicated with that are friends/helpers around the property and neighborhood were friendly and helpful, and Norma was incredible to communicate and plan with for our stay. It's always a wonderful blessing to find good, Christian people to work with, and we would definitely recommend her (and her husband) and her house to anyone interested in visiting PR and staying for a few days! The house and property are well-kept and we had absolutely no issues with anything there. Vista Montemar was definitely an unexpected surprise that was impossible to disappoint. The private beach was absolutely gorgeous as well, and should definitely be visited at least once! Thanks Norma! Blessings! Alyssa & Carlos Quiñones
Thank you for sharing your vacation home with us. It was very comfortable and quiet, we really enjoyed the night time music of the coqui with the other insects outside. We never saw an insect in the house and the cat never once bothered us. Getting there was a little scary because the GPS took us thru another route, but once back on 901 we called Jose Luis and made it okay. But all in all we had a good time, sat by the beach a couple of times and enjoyed the quiet beautiful surroundings. J n M South Carolina
This home was amazing for ease of use and comfort. We spent all of our waking hours out on either the roof top watching the sun rise with our coffee in the morning or on the second floor balcony reading, sipping gin and tonics and listening to the birds. After dark, the main floor living area was comfortable for reading or watching tv. The beach is literally a 2 minute walk from the house but you can also drive and park there for taking beach chairs and coolers along. We rarely shared the gorgeous beach with more than 6 other people. Beautiful with clean tropical waters for swimming. We golfed at the beautiful Palmas del Mar golf course which is a 20 minute drive and went scuba diving out of Fajardo, a 30 minute drive from the house. We'd go back in a flash if work and finances didn't keep us closer to home. Norma is accessible and so helpful with any questions we had. I give this place 5 stars!
We had a great time at the house. The beach just located 2 min from the house was always empty so we had the hole beach to ourselves. In the house was even snorkling gear and boogie-boards. It was clean and tidy and the kitchen worked fine (a bit torn out stove and a really bad frying pan). The neighbors were very helpful and even helped us out when our little baby got sick. One of them was a pediatrician so we were very lucky! Overall a very great stay. There were some nearby restaurante's but we did most of the cooking in the house. Norma was always a quick answer away in the email if we had any questions. There was also a really big supermarket just 10 min away with the car.
We had a wonderful stay at Villa Montemar! The description is accurate and it was more gorgeous than the pictures! We had 5 in our group (my husband and I and 3 teenagers) and were very comfortable, plenty of room. The outdoor balcony and rooftop were great and that's where we spent the majority of our time (besides the beach of course). The beach was really a 2 minute walk, and we could choose to boogie board in the waves or swim and snorkel in the calm waters to the left. (the owner provided beach chairs, beach towels, snorkel gear, and boogie boards!) The kitchen was well stocked with equipment and a few spices. We cooked all our meals because it was just such a great kitchen to work in. The community is quiet and easy to walk. Nice neighbors that we had fun chatting with. We drove to Humacao Nature Preserve one day which was only about 20 minutes away. We went kayaking, paddleboarding, and hiked to a gorgeous beach where we swam and could see Cayo Santiago (Monkey Island) and Vieques in the distance. Communication with Norma was so easy that I felt very comfortable asking as many questions as we needed to. We texted a bit during our stay and it was fun learning about the place a little more. We also had a small issue while we were there regarding one of the teens locking a door and she was so helpful and understanding guiding us through what to do. We have traveled to Puerto Rico every year for the past 6 years and always stay in rental homes, and Norma was by far the easiest to communicate with! I have already recommended this place to family and friends and can't wait to come back!
Beautiful home! Awesome views! We absolutely loved this home... So much more than we expected.
We stayed a week in this beautiful home. Our group consisted of me and my husband and 4 teenagers. We had plenty of room and the house had enough dishes and towels for our group. There's seating for at least 6 in the living room area and dining area. However, the balconies are so perfect, that we spent most of our time outside. You can walk to the beach in 2 minutes and it is very quiet and peaceful. We loves the area and neighborhood because it was not touristy, we felt like we were getting the true Puerto Rican experience! Norma responded to my emails right away and was always helpful. We would love to go back one day!
I cannot say enough good things about this home - it was one of the best things about our PR vacation. My 4 friends and I arrived to Norma's home in the dark and did not get to see the full delights of the home (like the view!) until the morning. The house is a great size, very comfortable for us 5 and I think would even be comfortable for 8 (with 3 couples sharing beds). There is balcony space galore, with nice deck furniture, so the house feels twice the size that it is. I think we spent every minute outside on the balcony / patio. (the hammock is a nice touch!) Yabucoa beach is paradise. It's swimmable and surf-able, clean and pristine, and nice and quiet. There are fun community grounds at the beach entrance that would be nice for small kids and picnics. I felt totally at home walking down to the beach and felt that my belongings were safe on the beach. The nice neighbors (turtle protectors) were an added joy. The house is obviously well-loved. Preparing meals together rather than always eating out saved us tons of money. Kitchen, bath, laundry, bedrooms - all furnishings were in great shape and totally sufficient for our needs. It was nice that the kitchen had a few spices / sauces / salad dressings left from previous vacationers, and a few more left after our departure as well. The garden was in gorgeous condition, and we had friendly lizards, snails, and a certain bird keep us company all the time. The only suggestion/complaint I could possibly have was if the outdoor shower was in better working order (the handles were missing), it might have allowed our group to move faster in the morning! (less waiting for the shower). The hose was sufficient tho. The owner was generously available for my last-minute questions and totally understanding about the fact that they were last-minute. One thing to note; the gardener / gatekeeper speaks spanish almost exclusively. We were late arriving and tried to communicate this by phone with him, and it was a bit comical, but we worked it out. Yabucoa is less touristy-crowded, but an easy drive to attractions like Charco Azul, a nature preserve with a pristine freshwater pool about 30 minutes eastward, and El Yunque and San Juan. We wanted to snorkel, so instead of returning to the crowds of Fajardo, we called the closest yacht club and asked for a referral for chartering a Catamaran (details are logged in the guest book at the house.)
This house and neighborhood was everything we were looking for and more! Everything exceeded our expectations. The proximity to the beach was perfect and the all the outdoor living space let us enjoy this tropical paradise to the fullest!!! If you are looking for a great house in a quaint quite setting this is the place for you:)
We stayed at Vista Montemar for almost a month so we have a good impression of the whole area. The house is perfectly located in a villa park close to the sea. The view with sea view is stunning. The beach is one of the best we have ever seen. We particularly liked the big garden with nice flowers and many birds including hummingbirds. The house is spacious and clean. The 3 bedrooms all have airco, which is nice if you're coming from a cold winter country and need to adjust to the warmth. One of the airco's didn't work properly, but as a good host Norma immediately arranged a technician to fix it. The porch and the balcony are fantastic to sit and relax with a book or a drink. There are not many European style restaurants, but Puerto Rican style is okay. For nature lovers there are plenty beautyful Natural Reserves within one hour drive. We would certainly recommend Vista Montemar to our friends. In fact we already did so. We also hope to be back! Jacqueline and Michael Teunissen from Haarlem, The Netherlands
