We had a great time. This property is very convenient to Burt Lake and Mackinaw Island. It was very relaxing and a well maintained property. The beds were comfy. It was a nice place to have a dog although make sure that you know that the back side of the yard is not fully fenced. They had a great BBQ and we grilled and enjoyed eating outside.
Had a great stay. Plenty of room for everyone. Our Lab loved the backyard. Hope to be back!
This house felt like taking a step back in time, it reminded me of the comforts of my grandparents house. It’s cool how they have kept the house the way it is. The house was clean and it is actually much bigger than it appears from the outside and photos. The location is awesome, there are many restaurants and bars within walking distance. Burt Lake is a short 5-10min walk and a cute neighborhood to walk through. It was about a 25 min drive to Nubs and Boyne Highland. The wifi was great and we both had no issues working from the home. The bed was comfortable and we slept great. Also, I’m so glad they allowed our dog to come with us!
House was very clean and had everything we needed. It is bigger than what pictures show. Very nice large room in back with large dining table. Bedrooms were plenty big
This was a wonderful place to spend a long holiday weekend for snowmobiling. The home had much more space than we expected, plus it was filled with character and history. The trails were just about 2 blocks away, so we could ride from the front door. And there were 2 gas stations where you could fill up just 5 minutes down the trail. We even brought 2 vehicles and a 27-foot enclosed trailer. Parking was a bit tight, but we were able to fit. The house was clean and well stocked with the essentials. WiFi worked great for the grandkids. And it had a fenced back yard for the dog, though some of the fence is a bit short so I wouldn’t rely on just that if you have a big dog or a jumper. We don’t, so it worked great for us. There is a natural spring in the backyard which was shooting out water. Because of the weather, it was forming interesting ice mounds around the basin. All in all, it was a lot more than we expected for the money.
Had a great time! Love this cottage. It’s like a time capsule. Will be back!
This is a charming house that has clearly been a family gathering spot for decades. The problem is, there is no attempt to ready the place for GUESTS, rather than just family and friends. My biggest issue is that despite the description- THERE IS NO FIREPLACE! I even told the owner when booking that the fireplace was important, as my finance and I were recreating a special weekend. When I arrived I found a giant PADLOCK on the fireplace gate. I called and texted the host and I was told that they were not allowing guests to use the fireplace because they didn't want to purchase liability insurance. Why wouldn't you tell your guests that when they booked, or when they told they needed one???? Better yet- change your property description online! The place was half-cleaned. This is scary in the time of COVID. So we spent or first minutes would things down with lysol wipes rather than relaxing. There was hair in the bathroom on the counters, toilet, and in the bathtub. There was also hair on various surfaces in the house and the shower curtain had mildew at the bottom. The bathmat was dirty. The bedside table has a glass topper and it was badly shattered, leaving huge, dangerous, sharp shards of glass on the bedside table. I almost sliced my hand open reaching to plug my phone in the wall next to the table. The owners did not tell us that we couldn't use the fireplace, and didn't tell us that we needed to bring our own firewood for the outdoor forgot (despite having close to 1000 lbs of wood stacked outside). We were told that is for family use only. Our weekend away was ruined. We would've chosen a different (and cleaner, newer, better maintained) place if we had known their was no fireplace. The backyard also has the feel of a suburb. When you sit on the porch or at the firepit, your view is of houses on all sides, pretty damn close too (a couple years away). So rather than looking out the window into the woods, you get to watch the neighbor fixing his lawnmower on one side, or working on an old car on the other. The neighbors are so close, you can hear everything they say when they are outside. Not the woodsy cabin we had hoped for. This place is should be kept as a family spot. The owners have no interest in investing the time or money or care required to run a vacation rental. We SEVERELY over paid for what we for. (Grandmas old run down place that she doesn't visit anymore and the rest of the family doesn't really want).
Spent a long weekend hiking in the woods around the area. Had beautiful fall color ... timing was perfect. This home was a great spot for access to outdoor activities.
Super easy and plenty of space. Brought 3 boats up here to fish and there was plenty of room to park and charge overnight!
Very comfortable house to enjoy a great town and area. Thank you.
It was perfect 🥰
We really enjoyed our stay at The Rock! The home is much larger than we expected. Great living/dining area. The home and decor were very nostalgic - reminded us of staying with grandparents. There is only one window A/C unit in the back bedroom (no central air), no washer/dryer and could not use the dishwasher. Not a huge deal when we were there but FYI if those amenities are important to you. We really appreciated being able to bring our dog! Thank you Nichelle!
Had a nice time. Location is close to the Marina. It is within walking distance to food and drinks.
Perfect place to experience Indian River/Burt/Mullet. Fit our group of six perfect with extra room to spare. It's not a new or updated place but that is what gives it, its charm. Feels like your hanging at the family place up north. Only two blocks from public boat launch, shops and restaurants. We will definately be back again!
Great location. Easy drive to Petoskey, Mackinaw City, Cheboygan, and close to Burt Lake State Park. House was roomy enough for seven adults. Comfortable decor brought back memories of an earlier time. Owners were responsive and made checking in and out a breeze.
We stayed at this residence over long 4th of July weekend. The house is clean and plenty of outdoor amenities for cooking out and sitting on back deck and yard. We did not stay long during the day as everyday by 11am we were meeting family on boats on Indian River and did Kayaking down crooked river. We generally were not back til 8pm to grill out and then headed back to town which is very easy walking to ice cream or local bars. It was a perfect location! It was a very hot weekend and the house was comfortable with the air conditioner, although we used fans to push the air to the other 2 bedrooms. The only other thing that was a little confusing it there was food in the freezer and door of refrigerator, we just did not use it and after we were done disposed of or packed all the food we brought. We had 6 of us and then on one night an extra couple came that brought a blow up bed, So very roomy for all.
Great value. Close to everything.
It was cozy and reminded me of grandparent lake home when I was kid. My family had a great time.
Would have been a 5-star rating however the air conditioner was not installed.
Our two families have enjoied our welcome in this great cozy home! We were glad to have had everything we needed, making our stay-a no brainer. The river to kayak in was joyful and the trails were relaxing with scenic views! Thank you! Ivan, Alex, Alex, Irina, Tatyana
Close to Burt Lake and walking distance to food and drinks. Beautiful area. Enjoyed a great fire under the northern skies
Great family home in downtown Indian River! Walking distance to Restaurants, Bars, Public Access Beaches and More. The communication was excellent with the owners. The house was clean and well stocked with all the comforts of home.
Check in was easy, as was check out. We arrived very late and light was on for us. Great backyard with fountain. Would recommend and hope to visit again.
The house was wonderful. It was in a perfect location, walking distance to restaurants and shopping. The neighborhood was quiet and very peaceful. The house itself was really cool. Between the living room, dinning room and family room, there was so much space. The bedrooms are a little small, but still nicely furnished and comfortable. We will definitely look to rent this house again for future vacations at Indian River.
This is an older home with plenty of room to spread out. Enjoyed the fire pit out back. Very close to the beach. Awesome firework show and parade. The house has one wall unit air conditioner in the back bedroom—-it does get a little warm in the main part of the home. The home could use a few updates but I understand that it’s a family home being passed down for generations. Overall it’s a great little spot, in a cute little town, close to a great little lake!
Beautiful home in a quiet neighborhood. Felt like a home away form home.
The property was a great size and has enough room for a lot of people but the kitchen could updating along with a few other parts of the house! Great backyard with a fire pit!!
Easy walking distance to several bars, the river and lake. Inside, several large gathering spots with 2 living rooms and large dining area, and plenty of sleeping quarters. Enough space for a few small families vacationing together, or in my case a group of friends. Indian River is nice “Up North” base, with lots of immediate area things to do and 30 minutes to either Mackinaw City or UP in one direction or Petosky area in another; only 60-90 minutes to things like Soo Locks or Tahquamemon Falls. My group didn’t use kitchen but appeared to have everything you’d possibly need to cook and serve. Communication was good and property was overall in good condition with everything we needed, just bringing personal items and clothes.
Close to town, the beach, boat ramp, and the river. Access to Local TV stations would be helpful for news and weather.
Wonderful house. Enjoyed all the antiques and spaciousness of the house. Hope you didn't mind that we put the sheers on the windows in the green room. We're from the big city and don't like to be seen in the house. One big improvement would be adding central air. There weren't enough windows that could be opened and the fans don't help with humidity. AC would also be good for the antiques. Everything else was great. Would like to come back next year. Also, we found it to be nice and quiet. Thank you.
Well stocked with kitchen supplies and very quiet neighborhood. Thanks so much for sharing your home with us.
We had a fun time during our stay at The Rock. The home is larger that it looks with plenty of common space to spread out. The dinning area seated our large family easily and the long counter was really helpful for all of the food we brought for the week. Nichelle was easy to communicate with prior to our visit and very responsive regarding the few questions that arose during our stay. The home is very well located, it was easy to walk to town and to the city beach. We very much enjoyed our time in Indian River.
The place was big, cozy and clean! We had a great stay and hopefully will be back next year. Thank you for a fantastic vacation😄
