We spent a fantastic week at The Point! The house was beautiful and it accommodated our whole family wonderfully. Our boys loved sledding on the hills and my husband and I enjoyed snowshoeing on the property's extensive trail system. The house has a great kitchen for gathering, comfortable common areas by the fireplace and for watching TV, and plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms. Outside was a winter wonderland. We will definitely be back...
One would never expect to find such an amazingly modern, exquisitely decorated home so far from today's hurried urban areas. The home at "The Point" offers an opportunity to relax, enjoy a natural setting, and explore acres of wooded land surrounding a lake. The home is expansive yet comfortable. It has high ceilings, large windows, and a gourmet kitchen. Little conversation nooks are nestled here and there all over the house...perfect for reading or dozing. We loved every aspect of our stay and hope to "go back for more" in the near future. The fall colors were lovely, but summer must be glorious there!
Early mornings on the screened in porch, nursing a hot cup of coffee and watching the sun rise was one of the highlights of staying here. Windows in every room overlooking the lake afforded beautiful views where ever we went. Little nooks and crannys throughout the house provided comfortable spots to sneak away for a quiet moment to read or meditate. The design of the house is spectacular. This was a delightful stay.
This is a spacious and luxurious home supplied with everything you need for a comfortable and enjoyable stay in the woods of northern Minnesota. There are several bedrooms and bathrooms for privacy and plenty of areas for visiting and togetherness. Also, the little town of nearby aitkin has so much to offer.
This is a perfect home for a reunion (family--school friends etc. With 5 bathrooms and many sleeping areas it was very convenient for our group of old college friends. The view of the lake is wonderful as is the design of the home. It is clean and tastefully furnished. We had a great time and thank you for sharing your home with us..
For a reunion of any kind, this is an excellent choice. Lots of sleeping areas, but gathering rooms, and smaller nooks for conversations as well. And from all the windows, you look at the lake, which surrounds on three sides. Really a lovely spot.
Needed a place for a Northern Minnesota retreat for 8 women over 75! We found it in this beautiful home. A lovely screened porch and nooks galore all over the house for privacy for the readers and writers among us and wonderful conversation spots for the whole group or just a twosome. All the amenities of home in a rustic setting and walking distance to a lovely historic site -- A National Register of Historic Places --Bethlehem Lutheran Church originated in 1891 complete with kerosene lamps still in place from the early pioneers. I could not have imagined a more ideal setting for our October get-away; everyone left wanting to stay longer. It is simply without flaw and I can think of no better recommendation.
First off - the on-line pictures are good, but don’t really capture the full beauty of the home or the lake. The statement about being able to see the lake from any window is definitely true - my son and I verified it. We stayed a week and could have easily stayed another. Bev and Marv were very generous and gracious hosts. I felt like we were in great hands and that if we needed anything, Bev and Marv would go out of their way to help us. They ensured our visit was top notch. We had plenty to do while staying, but did make a few trips to Aitkin. It was about 15 minutes away and had everything we needed – church, grocery, hardware, restaurants, shopping, gas station, etc. We enjoyed the lake by canoeing, kayaking, fishing, and even a little swimming. There were numerous, well groomed, trails that we did not have a chance to explore, but plan to on our next visit. Our favorite spot was the screened in porch. We drank our morning coffee, visited throughout the day, and play evening games there. There was wifi and cable TV, but we hardly used it. My son and daughter thoroughly enjoyed fishing off the dock. We caught enough sunfish to make a supper. We all took a try at fishing almost every day. Overall, this was a very fun, relaxing, and stress free vacation. We thank Bev and Marv very much for sharing their little retreat with us. We will definitely be back!!
This was the best vacation experience we have ever had for a variety of reasons. Bev & Marv were concerned from our very first contact that all of our questions were answered and that they provided everything we needed for a perfect vacation. "The Point" exceeded all of our expectations. The home is beautiful, well designed, large but cozy at the same time. All features of the house reflect what a custom home should provide. From the custom kitchen, large bedrooms, and multiple family gathering areas, the 7 of us enjoyed good meals, family game nights, and even time alone to read and listen to the loons. Outside we fished, kayaked, canoed, hiked, and even toured the lake in the motor boat. On day two, our kids asked if we planned to do this again? We are already reserving dates. Do yourself a favor and come to The Point.
The house was exceptional and very roomy for our family. There were views from each window. Many toys to play with. The owners were great hostesses. Would rent again.
We loved our time at Longhouse, there was nothing we would have changed. The house was beautiful, the views of the lake in every window, my family enjoyed everything the house had too offered. We spent every moment either on the lawn or out the water. Great place to reconnect with family and just relax, read, sleep or walk around grounds. If you need a wonderful place to visit that’s clean, inviting …..this is it
Thanks to Bev & Marv for letting us enjoy their beautiful home! The pictures don't lie...this home is so comfortable and made us feel we were enjoying a home away from home! We enjoyed fishing, playing games on the wonderful BIG yard, and sitting around the campfire. We all commented that there was not a sound to be heard at night except for maybe the loons calling. Far enough out from the city of Aitkin but yet an easy drive into town for dinner and some shopping. We went as 4 couples who have vacationed for many years together and we all had enough room! Whether watching TV, reading, or just sitting on the porch eating or playing games. Beds and bathrooms galore! Many happy memories were made! Thanks again Bev & Marv , for making us feel like old friends coming to visit!
After having read all of the 5-star reviews, we had such high expectations of The Longhouse that I thought we might be disappointed. I was wrong! What a terrific place… Our two families (4 adults and 3 teenagers) stayed at The Longhouse for a mini-reunion of friends coming from Norway and the Pacific NW. There was so much space for relaxing, including the dining table which could easily seat our group (probably 8-10 people as well), the kitchen island around which we often gathered while making dinner, the cosy TV “loft” for watching movies, and the idyllic screen porch where we drank coffee and listened to the loons in the morning. We spent four lovely days entirely the outdoors, enjoying the kayaks, canoe, paddleboat, and rowboat (with small outboard motor) which were generously provided by the owners. When we weren’t on the water, we were playing soccer or our new favorite game of “cornhole”. We wouldn’t have been nearly as active had we stayed at a resort and been required to pay by the hour to rent all of this equipment – it was terrific to have everything at hand, including life jackets! With very comfortable beds, five (!) bathrooms, the gas grill, and groceries close by so that we could cook our own meals, we had everything we needed for the perfect relaxing vacation with friends. The Longhouse owners’ openheartedness, hospitality and generosity make this feel like the home of friends. We feel lucky to have been able to enjoy their lovely home in Minnesota, and hope we can return again soon!
The Longhouse is located near Aitkin, Minnesota, on a lovely lake. There are great walking trails through the woods and near the lake, with lots of wild life. We were there in early October and the trees were wonderful. The owners were very helpful and made us feel at home.
Our family of eight which included a 4 year old and 7 year old, LOVED our stay at The Longhouse on the Point! Bev and Marvin made our stay so comfortable! Everyone had plenty of activities from which to choose from playing yard games on the huge yard, fishing, hiking, boating, playing in the water, reading a book on the secluded shore of the peninsula, playing cards, using the paddle boat, enjoying smores and conversation at a campfire by the shore every evening to a quiet morning sipping coffee on the dock while listening to the breeze through the trees! We will definitely be back! Thank you for sharing your home with us!
There are not enough superlatives to write how well this house worked for us for a 4-sister reunion. While we love being together, we each like our own space and the Longhouse on the Point has lots of that! Sooo private and sooo quiet: a gorgeous location surrounded by water--it just doesn't get any better than this. Bev and Marv made us feel like part of their family, offering anything and everything in their home for our use. The weather during the week that we were there could have been a little better, but the rainy, cool days let us each find our own nook to read in or chat with each other. We never even felt the need to turn on a TV. We did manage to get a sunny day to use the kayaks on the beautiful lake, take some walks/hikes through the woods, and have a campfire under the brilliant stars. Aitkin is a small town that has some nice galleries, both in town and nearby, several decent restaurants in the area and good shopping for groceries, etc. It's close to Brainerd and several other towns, so there is plenty to do if you want to leave the house and go explore. A beautiful house in a beautiful area, with terrific people as your hosts! Awesome.......
Longhouse at the Point exceeded every expectation. Three generations of our family (ages 10-75) enjoyed every minute in this beautiful, generously-appointed, clean home and idyllic lakeside setting. We all immersed ourselves in happy play and relaxation. We paddled, rowed, fished, made puzzles, read, played games (inside and outside), made s'mores and watched fireflies. And laughed a lot. Everyone was so content at Longhouse that no one even wanted leave for a meal in town. The owners were exceptionally generous, welcoming and easy to work with. We all left this little paradise with good memories, hoping to return.
Our second stay was just as awesome as the first. We spent lots of time on the lake. We brought our won fishing boat on this trip and getting on and off the lake at the public access, just 5 min down the road, was a breeze. We caught enough fish for a fish fry. Definitely one of our top rated vacations!!!
Beverly is a very accommodating Hostess and had everything ready for our stay. The house is very private on the peninsula. We did a lot of fishing and caught crappies, Sunfish, northern pike and bass! We had access to kayaks, canoe, paddle boat and a rowboat. Our only recommendation would be to bring a small motor for the rowboat. We enjoyed seeing the different wildlife and Eagle, loons, otters, beaver, trumpeter swans and deer. Beverly was very accommodating and responded quickly if we had any questions or concerns! Thanks again for the wonderful stay!!
I booked this property for my mother and close family friends to stay while they were visiting Minnesota for my wedding. I cannot say enough positive things about the owners and the property- the place is stunning! My mother and friends who stayed there loved it and it was a wonderful place for them to retreat back to away from the wedding festivity craziness. They have already talked about reunion trips there! I highly recommend booking this vacation rental- you will not be disappointed!
