Stone's Throw Bungalow ~ Walk to Plays, Licensed/Legal, Private Entrance, Garden

Ashland, Oregon

Just a stone's throw to the plaza, a licensed one-bedroom vacation rental suite is tucked behind one of Ashland's charming craftsman-style bungalows. Your private gated entrance, located behind the house, opens onto a peaceful garden and quaint patio - a wonderful place to enjoy morning coffee and a book, or a glass of wine in the evening. In the summer and fall, help yourself to the ripe tomatoes, fresh herbs and fruit growing in the garden. The owner has lovingly created a sanctuary-like space within the town's premier historic district. Step back in time and enjoy a quiet retreat away from TVs and phones. (FREE, high-speed, reliable, password-protected Wifi is available for your laptop should you wish.)

Your separate, attached one-bedroom retreat awaits and features fine linens, a private bath and a fully-stocked kitchenette including organic tea, coffee, cream and sugar. Step inside: a cool, restful palette adorns a tastefully furnished room that includes period pieces such as an arts-and-crafts style armoire. You'll find a quiet, comfortable bedroom that overlooks an enchanted, fragrant flower garden. This inviting space features wood and tile floors, a ceiling fan, a silent A/C and heating unit, wall and space heaters, and plenty of windows so that you can take advantage of the abundant natural light and fresh mountain air. The bungalow is kept exceptionally clean using homemade, environmentally-friendly cleaners and a HEPA air purifier. Sorry, no smoking or pets.

The on-site owner has been a resident of Ashland for the past 23 years. Your privacy is my utmost priority. If desired, I would be happy to guide you nearby hiking and biking trails, farmer's markets, wineries, hot springs and locally-grown organic food. I am also happy to supply you with anything you need during your stay.

Ashland highlights such as the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Lithia Park, Cabaret Theater, downtown plaza, restaurants, shops, and movie theaters are all within a lovely 10 - 15 minute walk. You'll stroll through a level, shaded historic neighborhood and cross a bridge over the gentle waters of Ashland Creek on your way there!

To maximize your privacy, cleaning services are not included as part of your stay. Fresh linens will be provided to those guests staying one week or longer. The Stone's Throw Bungalow is an eco-friendly establishment. We encourage walking, biking, carpooling, bus riding, conservation, recycling and other practices that lessen your impact on the earth during your stay.

Lovely neighborhood to walk through to get to the heart of Ashland. It is not right in the middle of the theater / business district of town which suits me just fine. This place is perfect for a single person or couple, with everything needed for a comfortable stay. The host takes care of all the details. Our three night stay went by too fast. I hope to return to Ashland again and I will look to return to Stones Throw Bungalow.

Stone’s Throw Bungalow is very cute and cozy. Karin has included all sorts of amenities. There was nothing I could think of that was not provided. The garden is a wonderful treat. I made a point of being there in the afternoons when the sunshine was warm and pleasant and I watched the fall colours as they changed. There was a deer and her faun that were enjoying the neighbourhood, as well. Karin is an excellent host who replies very promptly and goes out of her way to make the stay memorable. I decided not to rent a car and I found Stone’s Throw Bungalow is centrally located and everything I wanted to do was within easy walking distance. I definitely plan to return.

    Beautiful and relaxing.

This is a perfectly appointed spot to access all the Ashland has to offer. It's an easy walk to downtown, the plays and Lithia Park or an easy drive to surrounding areas. Karin is a perfect host: there when you need her, but giving you your privacy when you don't. She is thoughtful and helpful which shows in the details of the place like coffee and breakfast provided for our late night arrival. The bed is comfy. Also, she has an amazing green thumb and has created a little retreat in the garden just for visitors. We grilled one night and ate in the garden and it was just lovely. We would highly recommend this spot.

Karin is a delightful host and her place is charming, comfortable and brand new. Set in a quiet neighborhood with a separate entrance and plenty of privacy. She even set up the fire pit for us in her lovely garden. Only a 15 minute walk to the theaters, shops and restaurants. This was our first trip to Ashland but not our last and we plan to stay here again. The organic chocolate mints on our bedstands were a nice touch! And the mattress was excellent. Just perfect.

Our 3rd stay in 3 yrs at Karin's lovely private comfortable Ashland apartment. Karin has thought of everything to make this small apartment as easy and comfortable as possible. The weather cooperated this year (not too warm or cool) to allow us to enjoy the backyard garden in the morning and afternoon. An easy 15-20 min walk to OSF. Enjoyed walking to the Lithia Park Reservoir and dining at Liquid Assets, Amuse & Coquino.

Karin's cottage is quite special. While it is small, it is well designed and full of thoughtful touches: attractive decorating items; good dishes; creative storage; quality linens; interesting books; helpful publications and maps; comfortable furniture and a good bed; nice toiletries ( I was surprised and happy to find a new toothbrush available as I had forgotten mine). AND the garden is lovely; we thoroughly enjoyed it every morning and at other times throughout our stay. Coming back to the cottage after an outing, or after an evening play at OSF always felt good. We did not meet Karin as she was away during our stay (she had let us know that this would be the case); but she made sure we were well taken care of by setting up everything we might need. We met a lovely neighbor, the local kitty cat, parked in the driveway, drank the wine she left us, and sat in all the chairs in the garden. We have been to Ashland and the OSF several times, and when we return, I hope Karin's place will be available as I would stay there again.

Beautiful, clean little home! Everything provided for comfort able rest and relaxation.

The many reviews on this little apartment tell the truth. It was a pleasure to stay here, especially since Karin, the owner, is gracious and friendly--without being intrusive at all. I spent many, many hours out in the garden reading a great stack of books. And it is only about half a mile to the theaters (the main reason I go to Ashland each year). Handy Hint: If you catch High Street (just about 3 houses away) and take it to the end, you land right in town on the edge of Ashland Creek and Lithia Park without ever having to walk along main street and all that traffic.

Touches we loved: quiet and cared-for neighborhood; tiny triangular window in the garden gate; entry of our own (door painted yellow curry!) slate in kitchen/bath, polished old-growth fir in sitting/bedroom; calming neutral palette; original windows (that open!); ample light/lighting; expansive-yet-enfolding views (blue-grey hills, green/floral garden); cushy-firm-luxury bed/bedding; tiled shower; fluffy-generous towels. We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay at the “Stone’s Throw Bungalow.” We went through the back gate into a lovely garden area and up the steps to the apartment. Later, in our stay, we sat on the back steps in the sun, enjoying the colorful fall foliage. We’ve stayed at a lot of VRBOs and the minute I walked in, I knew that we had made a good choice. Even though the space was not huge, the way Karen arranged and decorated it made it feel just the right size. (I left with some design ideas for my own home.) Karen had thought of everything we could possibly need and we were very comfortable. She also offered us the use of bicycles but we opted to walk the Greenway, instead. We enjoyed time in her sweet garden, and it was an easy 15-20 minutes walk into downtown to see plays or walk through Lithia Park. Karin respected our privacy but was also an exceedingly welcoming and helpful hostess, even offering via text message to deliver cushions & blankets to us at the Green Show for use in the outdoor theater that evening. (Far beyond the call of duty!) The various kitchen appliances she supplies completely compensate for the lack of a stove or oven, and the spacious, well-tended back yard makes up (in good weather) for a fairly small indoor footprint. The bed is supremely comfortable; the whole place is attractive, thoughtfully and generously put together. And it's in a lovely residential neighborhood, a pleasant walk to theaters, parks and restaurants past lots of pretty houses, trees and gardens.

Karin is the type of host that has thought of all the small details to make your stay easy and trouble-free (a light on the key chain, ponchos for the outdoor theatre, coffee and cream, nice wine glasses, etc). The garden is absolutely lovely with 2 sitting areas, one with a firepit and the other with a bistro table and chairs. The apartment is in a quiet neighborhood, just a 10 minute walk to downtown. Enjoy!

Our stay at Stone's Throw was perfect. Probably the nicest place we have ever stayed in our rental experience. Immaculate, fully stocked, clean and comfortable. Quiet, residential location, yet close to downtown. Wish we could have stayed a few extra days. Enjoyed the lovely gardens, and the hostess was very helpful. Would love to stay again.

This very modern and enjoyable suite of rooms was just what we wanted for our three night visit to the Shakespeare festival. Privacy. a delightful garden, plush amenities and a gracious hostess. Its about a mile to the festival so we walked most times but in the process found a good place to park when we drove for the last late night performance. We especially liked not having a TV as it forced us outdoors (Lythia park in particular) and away from the news. We will certainly return!

My husband and I enjoyed Karin's little bungalow with everything -- a comfy bed, a good shower, a perfect little kitchen, tasty breakfast items, and pretty view into the back yard from the breakfast bar. The walk to the theaters is easy, through a nice neighborhood. And Karin even kindly found and mailed back to me a sock I'd accidentally left behind!

This place was everything we hoped it would be. It's an easy walk to downtown and in a great neighborhood. The bungalow was nicely decorated, with a small but functional kitchen, and an amazing garden to enjoy. The garden was great to sit in and have coffee or a glass of wine. Karin was also helpful with recommendations of wineries and restaurants to visit and other outdoor activities to do. If my wife and I make it back to Ashland, we would happily stay here again.

We stayed in Karrin's sweet bungalow for 2 nights in May 2016. The care and thought in creating this peaceful place is apparent right away. She has thought of everything! And, being a clean freak, I appreciated how neat, tidy, and spotless her place was. There is a lovely garden to just relax in or explore the many flowers and herbs she has planted. We wish we hadn't booked so many plays to see when staying in Ashland so that we could have enjoyed her accomodations longer. We highly recommend Stone's Throw Bungalow!

Hosts were warm, friendly and very helpful with recommendations while the bungalow itself could not have been more well designed...amazing use of space with everything we needed plus nice little touches of fresh flowers, wine, a little chocolate and great coffee. Enjoyed the bikes provided..great bike path nearby...with loads of wild blackberries along the side. And then there's the garden...what a relaxing, beautiful place to just sit, relax and even eat a little fresh tomato or strawberry grown right there. The 5 block walk to town, seeing the old houses was great too....wholeheartedly recommend!! Thanks for the hospitality!

This is a beautiful, private, BEYOND well-appointed cottage. It is the best vacation rental we have ever stayed in and we travel A LOT. Both a white wine and a red wine welcomed us, along with organic chocolates, coffee, cream, teas, brand new Avalon Organics products, and fresh flowers. The cottage has a garage space to store mountain bikes or other gear. The gorgeous surrounding garden hosts comfortable adirondack chairs, a bistro table, a sweet bench, and a fire pit. The owner was quick to respond to our rental request and was welcoming from our very first interaction. This delightful cottage made our trip!

For instance, two glasses of iced tea with fresh mint were waiting on the table for us when we arrived on a 100+ degree day. Only a 15 minute walk to town through pretty neighborhoods. We've stayed here twice and will continue to stay here whenever in Ashland!

The unit is compact, for sure, but extremely well appointed. The bedroom is lovely, and the bed is excellent. Bathroom, kitchen, and bedroom are sparkling clean, and Karin has clearly put a lot of thought and love into decorating and provisioning the unit. The kitchen, while quite compact, has everything you could possibly need including a induction hotplate! She thoughtfully provided a bottle of chilled wine, coffee, creamer, and teas as well as all sorts of toiletries you may have forgotten to pack. The garden more than makes up for the lack of a living room - private, quiet, and inviting in the morning sun and afternoon. Communication with Karin is easy, via email, text, or phone. An easy 15 minute walk to town makes Karin's Stones Throw Bungalow an excellent choice for visiting Ashland. And, there are many great hikes nearby, as well as the Applegate Winery region. Be sure to check out Jacksonville as well, and maybe the Britt Music Festival.

We recently stayed for 10 days during the off season in hopes of finding the perfect place to build our new home. This well-appointed retreat in a private neighborhood fulfilled all of our expectations and more. Our days were filled with short walks to town where we enjoyed shopping at the local food co-op and strolls through Lithia park during the day and evening outings to local eateries and the theater (both made possible with the help of the owners). We also enjoyed day trips to the Oregon Coast and the Redwood Forest - a must see for any visitor to the area. The bungalow had everything we needed to experience the culture and lifestyle of Ashland. We felt perfectly at home. Thank you so much.

A lot of thought was put into making this place perfect; a welcoming bottle of wine, q tips, extra toothbrush just in case and every kitchen gadget you could use except a stove. There is a lovely private sitting garden with BBQ, chairs and a fire pit which makes up for the lack of oven/stove cooking , if the weather cooperates. Bicycles are available for riding on the bike trail or into town which is just a short walk away.
