Extraordinary privacy and convenience just a 10-minute walk to Main Street.
You don't have to choose between privacy and convenience when staying at this grand 1863 home - it offers the best of both! This 5 bedroom, 2 bath single-family home was the Sunset View Inn in the early 1900's. With all new electrical wiring in 2017, it rests proudly on 3 acres at the end of a dead-end street. At this house you can spread out, sleep in, and enjoy a game of croquet or badminton on the lawn. Use the WiFi and flat-screen TV to stay connected, or turn devices off and tune into the birds singing and the wind rustling the trees instead. It will feel so far away, yet it's so close. The woods behind are part of East Mountain and the land to the front is wooded park land. Many of the Berkshires' best attractions are within a 15-20 minute drive including Tanglewood, Norman Rockwell Museum, Shakespeare and Company, Berkshire Theater, and Chesterwood. Several hiking and skiing locations are also very convenient with Monument Mountain and Ski Butternut just 5 minutes away. Enjoy sunsets on the fully screened front porch. Pack up the picnic items provided and enjoy a concert at Tanglewood. Take these same items along with our beach towels to enjoy a swim at Lake Mansfield – just five minutes away! You can choose to stay in and cook using our fully stocked kitchen and outdoor grill, or you can dine at one of the many fabulous restaurants in town. When done, you can enjoy varied entertainment downtown – whether you walk or drive is up to you!
We did not need to use much of what was offered at this property but it seems wonderful for a family especially if staying a week or so. We had too much exploring to do but the location is perfect for being in GB and exploring the Berkshires. Owner had great communication. For the price, I don't think this property can be beat.
Character abounds in this beautiful, well maintained “mature” home in a quiet neighborhood, yet so convenient to many beautiful sights. Mornings were spent with a cup of home brewed coffee in a very nice, clean machine, on the porch watching the fox cubs frolicking across the driveway in the field. Grocery store close by as well as a good variety of quality restaurants. Home is well stocked with essentials. (loved the unbleached coffee filters too!) Showers are great and beds comfortable. Owner very responsive to questions and pleasant to work with. Would definitely stay again when visiting the area.
The house was clean and Amy was very responsive
We had a terrific stay at this wonderful home. Amy is an extremely responsive host and so easy to work with - she offered us early check-in even though we never asked for this and was flexible on the check-out time too. The house is exactly as picture and described - 5 well appointed bedrooms, plenty of towels in the bathrooms, and an extremely well stocked kitchen. We used the kitchen to make breakfast and dinners and had everything that we needed including a gas grill right outside the kitchen door. The house is within easy walking distance to town but it also feels like it is out in the country - we took a great hike from the backyard! This was a perfect spot to kick back with friends. We would definitely stay here again.
Organized a reunion of old classmates House worked great for us (5 adults ) Very clean and cozy great Porch for pre Kentucky derby mint juleps! Beds and pillows comfortable Would reccomend
My four friends and I, all college Seniors, stayed at Amy’s beautiful home for three months this Fall while taking online classes. This home is incredibly charming, clean, and spacious. There was room for all five of us to take classes and congregate in the dining room and living room. The house really does feel like an inn. All the bedrooms are spacious with at least two big windows, and felt tastefully decorated and homey. The kitchen was fully equipped and also spacious, so all 5 of us could cook at once! We enjoyed coffee in the mornings or cocktails in the evening on the to die for screened-in porch that has a gorgeous view of Great Barrington and nearby mountains. The house is surrounded by nature—just steps from the driveway, there is a path that takes you up to East Rock, one of the best hikes/views in Great Barrington. We did this hike a few times a week and it never got old. The neighborhood is very safe and pretty. There is a park just down the driveway with swings and a large grassy area where people walk their dogs. You’re only a five minute drive from Lake Mansfield and the Green river, both beautiful spots to swim! That being said, you are by no means remote—the proximity of Great Barrington made this stay even more perfect. The town is full of shops, bars, restaurants, and little day hikes/walks that are filled with history. My roommates and I would enjoy walks down to the Berkshire Co-op every day, where you can get local and fresh produce, and has a great bulk selection. The town has adapted so well to COVID-19 protocol, and many restaurants have genuinely beautiful and spacious outdoor dining that make going out still worthwhile and fun. Railroad Street shuts down traffic on Saturdays and all the restaurants have outdoor seating on the street, and there is often live music. Amy was so communicative and helpful throughout our stay. When there was an issue with the sink, her husband Greg drove down the next day to help us fix it. She was also very kind—as she knew that we were all college students, she offered to meet our parents on the day we moved in to answer any questions and let them know that we’d be safe there. Amy also thoughtfully connected us with her nephew who was staying nearby, and it was so nice to make a friend in the area. Overall, I can’t recommend this place enough. My roommates and I all agree that our best semester in college was spent at Amy’s home. We are jealous of anyone who stays here next!
As Massachusetts residents, we were looking for an in state vacation home to spend some quality family time together before our youngest son went off to college. This home, which I believe was once an inn, more than met our expectations! The rooms are comfortably furnished and we felt more like we were at home rather than renting a vacation house. All kinds of nooks in which to curl up with a good book or have a good conversation. Beautiful covered porch with comfortable patio chairs where you can listen to soft falling rain without getting wet. Gas grill to barbecue dinner and outdoor patio for dining as the sun goes down. Large dining table where we ate breakfast and played Sorry in the evenings - my older son always wins! The kitchen and walk in pantry were so well equipped we could have made a Thanksgiving dinner for 12! Finally the beds (and there are 5 bedrooms) were very comfortable each with it's own window AC. The boys played basketball in the yard and walked over to the lake to swim in the evenings and we watched deer (a doe and fawn) in the mornings. We have stayed at many VRBO properties in several different countries and this was one of the very best and most restful places we have ever been. At the same time if you want to venture out it is ideally situated for many of the hikes and attractions the Berkshires has to offer. We would definitely like to come back. Hopefully when the world is more normal my brother and cousins will be able to visit from England. Thank you Amy for a memorable holiday.
Amy's house is warm and welcoming and has the charm of an older Victorian. Amy has thought of everything, and we couldn't be happier with our stay. Beds are super comfortable, and sheets extra soft. Thank you so much, Amy!
My family had a wonderful stay at Amy’s lovely home. The house is well cared for, very clean and had all the necessary items from linens, to cooking utensils, dishes, picnic gear. You will truly find peace here! Amy was very responsive from pre-booking and during our stay. She was also very easy to work with. We were traveling with my two year old daughter and Amy suggested any baby items such as high chair and pack and play, even a small toddler bike, she had and set them for us prior to arrival to really make us feel welcome. The house a 5 minute drive to main st in great Barrington, with modern conveniences, but the seclusion of the beautiful grounds made for a real oasis of peace. Wildlife such as fox, deer and many birds were a treat. The wraparound screened in porch was one of my favorite destinations on the property. Thank you Amy for a true retreat. Maggie and Evan Soff
The property was immaculate and so spacious. There were plenty of dishes, towels, soaps, etc. for a large family to use. Cute vintage decor. Property manager was so nice and easy to communicate with.
Enjoyable house. Clean with plenty of towels, dishes, and pans. Great for family with children. Very close to skiing.
Six of us met for a reunion. We haven’t seen each other for 45 years. This was the perfect setting for fun and relaxation and getting reacquainted. Thank you so much!
Our family vacation here was perfect. The house is pristine and in impeccable condition. It's walking distance from town. Thank you!
We were in the Berkshires for a wedding so family was scattered throughout the area in various rentals. We maxed the rental capacity of the house at ten and were very comfortable with the day-to-day functions. Additionally, ours was the house that became the hub of family activity as it was large and comfortable and easily handled the additional visitors. I didn't have to contact the owner because she did a great job of prepping the house beforehand. It was a great and comfortable stay!
This house was perfect for an annual get together of college friends. Amy, the owner, was very accommodating to our needs and she graciously extended our time there to make the weekend a bit more relaxing. The house was very clean when we arrived and it looks exactly like the pictures. It is located in a private area and close enough to town to be able to walk-which we did one evening for dinner. There was plenty of comfortable sleeping space available on the second floor for eight women. Although we worried about sharing the two bathrooms, having one full bathroom upstairs, and one downstairs worked out well for us. We were appreciative of the well supplied kitchen when we prepared dinner one night, lunch and breakfasts. Best of all were the gathering areas for all of us to catch up on what our children and grandchildren were doing. We spent a long time on the front porch and around the dining room table talking into the wee hours. The living room would have been another great spot, but we never made it there. I would definitely recommend this house for anyone looking for a comfortable place where friends or family can gather. Amy is wonderful to work with and her communication was responsive and welcoming.
The perfect house for a larger group. Ideal location that is close to town but also has privacy. Clean and beautiful!
This house was perfect for my annual reunion with 7 of my childhood girlfriends. The house is immaculately clean, very well maintained, and spacious for a large group to visit in. The house is also unusually well stocked with beautiful comforters, comfy pillows, and plenty of dressers and closets to use. It was a rainy and cool weekend so we were indoors, but weather permitting, there is outdoor furniture and a porch to use as well. The attention to detail for the guests was superior. We did plenty of eating (and drinking) and there was no shortage of kitchen supplies. The house is a quick walk or drive to Main Street and lovely shopping. We ate at the Barrington Brewery one night; their menu has something for everyone. Amy was very easy to communicate with and the details she provided were wonderful and most appreciated. I would not hesitate to stay here again.
I went to the Berkshires for my daughter's wedding and was looking for a place for my family to stay while helping with preparations. The house is located a short walk from downtown and had plenty of room for everyone. The kitchen is well-equipped, so we were able to prepare most meals at home. Amy was super accommodating and a pleasure to work with.
This large home is peaceful and relaxing. The location is close to town, but yet it is very private, comfortable and quiet. The property is perfectly maintained. The owner was a pleasure to work with, and we would definitely chose this property again in the future.
Our family spent a lovely weekend at this beautiful home. The house was immaculately clean, charming and comfortable. The location was very convenient to restaurants downtown and just a couple minutes drive to Butternut for skiing. Amy was a wonderful host - she's kind, conscientious and very responsive. We can't wait to return!
Every year our far-flung group of seven childhood friends gather somewhere away from home to reconnect and enjoy one another's company. This year we were fortunate enough to have secured this lovely home for a weekend in the Berkshires. The house sits high on a hill and is surrounded by lush greenery offering plenty of privacy and quiet. It's a short walk to town for lunch, but eating in is also a delight as the house is very clean, well-stocked and super comfortable. The owner has installed air conditioners in each of the bedrooms, but we never needed to use them despite the very warm daytime temperatures. It was wonderfully cool at night with the windows open upstairs. We were able to visit sights in both Stockbridge and Lenox as well as strolling in downtown Great Barrington. Our group discussed a return visit next year, we loved it so much!
This was our first stay in this home and we had a great visit....the house is located on a hillside at the end of the street and is very quiet and restful. The kitchen is well-equipped for cooking for a crowd or grilling outdoors. We spent many lovely days and evenings on the screened porch or lounging outside on the lawn furniture! The beds were comfortable and the air-conditioning in each room a welcomed amenity. It was less than a mile stroll into beautiful Great Barrington allowing us to take advantage of the many stores, restaurants and coffee shops!
The house is very inviting and suited our casual, laid-back style, with just enough formality to know we were enjoying something very special. It's quiet and somewhat removed. And yet, it's a quick walk to Great Barrington's Main Street. We had the opportunity to meet Amy, the owner. She is responsive and helpful and we wished she could stay with us, she is very delightful. Our trip was a combination family reunion and an opportunity to memorialize a sibling who had passed away in the winter. The house made all of those celebrations and events comfortable in so many ways.
This house worked very well for our group of six adults and three children. The kids loved playing on the enclosed porch. Unfortunately, it was a little too buggy this time of year to fully enjoy the lovely outdoor area of the house, but we still had a nice picnic from Taft Farms (excellent sandwiches and donuts!). The kitchen was very well stocked with pots and pans and dishes. We cooked most of our meals at the house and there are two grocery stores just over a mile away and a coop market in walking distance. One negative for the light sleepers: sound seems to travel a lot from room to room and from downstairs to upstairs, so you might have trouble sleeping in or turning in early if you've got noisy housemates.
This weekend was beautiful and memorable for our family. The home is very roomy and clean and has everything you need. Love the history in the home. This was our first time in Great Barrington. We just loved it with the fall colors. Will be sure to return and rent this home as it was so perfect and Amy was wonderful. Anyone would be happy in choosing this property as a vacation home.
This house was perfect for our mini-reunion of 6 friends. It is spacious and well-equipped with everything we needed. The house is on a private, very quiet, and beautiful property with an easy walk to the main streets of Great Barrington. The owner was very responsive to our inquiries. We would definitely rent this property again.
Fantastic property, with exceptionally available owner who takes miticulous care of her home. Wonderful natural exposure on a quiet dead end road. My nine family members had the most enjoyable weekend here. Highly recommended!
My wife and I were joined by my 2 children and their families, including my 2 grandchildren. We were all very pleased with the house. There was plenty of room for everyone to sleep comfortably. House is a bit on the old side, that's why the 4 stars; it was a bit noisy and disturbed the kids a little. But, overall, a great place and beautiful grounds. Very clean and the owner was accessible and friendly. I would definitely stay there again!
Amy's house is charming. It is well located and has plenty of outdoor space in which to lounge or toss a Frisbee! The LR is large. It is well equipped with extra camp chairs and beach towels. The only negative was that three of the five bedrooms have no AC units, relying on the two bedrooms that do for cool air. For people who like privacy, closed doors meant very warm rooms at night. Despite this, our family would happily stay there again.
My girlfriends & I had a great time at this property. Amy, the owner was very accommodating, just a phone call away & she gave good ideas on what to do in the areal & what restaurants to go too. The property is very private which was nice. A good time was had by all & I would definately recommend this property for a get a way weekend or vacation!
The house is amazing.
This home was perfect for our 3rd annual girl's weekend. Amy was perfect to work with and allowed us early check in so we could really enjoy. We cooked our meals in the fully supplied kitchen and we were close enough to town to walk in and enjoy the town. The dining room table was our hang out place as it was large enough to accommodate us all. As the girls arrived everyone commented on how beautiful the place is. I loved the beautiful plates that were hanging in every room!! Beds were comfortable and the place was immaculate. Overall, just a perfect spot. We go someplace different every year for our weekend but the next time it is the Berkshires we will definitely be in this house. Thank you Amy for opening your beautiful home to us! PS the weather was perfect too!
The house was within walking distance of downtown Great Barrington with its coffee shops, food coop, bakery, great restaurants, bars and retail shops. The house is quaint, clean and well-maintained, and the perfect getaway for relaxing. It is also within easy driving access of multiple hiking and biking trails, and other towns in the Berkshires. Amy was very responsive in terms of answering any questions. We would definitely recommend this rental to family or friends and use it again for our own vacation.
My high school friends and I meet every year at a different location for a long weekend and this year we chose Great Barrington. The house we stayed in was perfect and the owner was so gracious. There are 5 bedrooms so we each had our own room. The grounds are lovely and we enjoyed eating our breakfast outside at the table and sitting outside in the early evening with a glass of wine. We made use of the porch and ate dinner in the dining room. The kitchen has everything you need for preparing a meal which we always do since it gives us more time to catch up . We enjoyed touring the area by car and also walked into town since it is a short distance from the house. My friends and I want to stay at this house again when we return to the area.
We have been renting homes in the Berkshires over the past 10 years and we know the area so well that we nearly feel like locals. When we found the listing for this house for our 2015 ski season, we knew it would be a great location, with incredible proximity to town and Butternut. In addition to what we expected, we also found a beautiful, well stocked home with a nice secluded feel and great hills for sledding and snowshoeing. Amy, the owner, is wonderful. She was not only was responsive via email, phone, text, but took the time to anticipate our every need. We were able to accommodate multiple families in spacious bedrooms and the first floor living areas are even roomier than we had anticipated from the photos. A real gem!
Our ski vacation, staying at owner Amy's inviting, well maintained home was ideal. My husband, son, daughter-in-law, 8 and 11 year old grandchildren, and I were totally impressed with the accurate description of location, spacious layout and amenities provided. We were very close to the Butternut Ski area, which was our intention. When the weather did not cooperate during parts of several days we changed gears and headed to the town of Great Barrington which was right down the road. Several restaurants take reservations and were excellent in terms of food selections, service, and no wait time which can be important during a hectic time of year. Local artsy type stores, eclectic children's toy stores, and clothes shops was plentiful. A tip to keep in mind is there is a healthy, upscale food market extremely close by so one does not really have to travel with bags of fresh fruits, produce, meats, cheese, fish, snacks etc. Amy was very helpful and accommodating via e-mail and phone. One can easily see she takes great pride in her home and wants you to enjoy your stay. As a family of varying ages we would definitely recommend this home for one's vacation. Ronnie
This was the perfect place for 10 of us to celebrate 42 years since college graduation. Amy met us and explained the workings of the house. Being at a dead end, it was very quiet, yet close enough to town for us to walk. The River Trail was a delightful surprise. All arrangements were easy to make and Amy was always quickly accessible when the need arrived. We have already discussed returning. Highly recommended.
This house is perfectly located on a quiet street, private yet very close to downtown and area attractions. Very clean, well-maintained and thoughtfully appointed. While enjoying coffee each morning on the spacious screened porch we were entertained by three deer walking across the lawn and up the driveway! We would not hesitate to return. Thank you again, Amy.
We highly recommend this house as a quiet, private and lovely place to stay while enjoying Great Barrington and the surrounding area. We would stay here again. The listing was completely accurate. The property was very clean and in great shape, and Amy was very responsive. Although we visited some of the local sites, we also found ourselves just relaxing at the house, too, for example by enjoying the screened-in porch during a rainstorm.
Very well equipped house. Very thoughtful and gracious owner. The house has lots of books, puzzles and & games. While we were fortunate with the weather (thank you Amy, for arranging it!), we wouldn't have been bored if we had to stay indoors.
Amy's house is huge, very nice, clean and comfortable. We had everything we needed and a great time was had by all. Thanks!
beautiful, well maintained and perfectly located home with a lovely owner. everything we needed was supplied. couldn't have enjoyed our stay more and only minutes from town and butternut. we will definitely be back
We loved your home! It was so big and homey. We felt very comfortable and can not wait to go back again! Amy was so great and went that extra mile to be we were happy!
