Crystal Valley is newly renovated in 2017 for vacation rentals. Relax inside or outside and enjoy the mountain views.
Crystal Valley Cabin on Terlingua Ranch is the ideal home base for your visit to the Big Bend Region. Modern-rustic design will set the perfect tone for your Big Bend adventure. The convenient location and easy access will allow you to focus on your vacation instead of stressing about vehicle access or long drives down questionable roads. The surprising seclusion will provide ample privacy and solitude. But, let’s not kid ourselves, the best thing about Crystal Valley Cabin is the chance to take a bath in an antique clawfoot tub under the Texas night sky. Do you even need to read the rest of this property description?
Still reading? Okay, some more details would help. Besides, there’s much more that we want brag about. After soaking in the tub while watching meteors fall, satellites fly overhead, and the Milky Way shine, you’ll probably want to relax around the campfire with a refreshing beverage, maybe even a sausage on a stick, or better yet, some s’mores. Whatever you eat and drink around the fire ring, will go well with campfire stories, some songs, or whatever else you want to do. Nobody is watching. It’s just you and your partner, or family and friends, under a starry Texas sky. You’re probably ready to stop reading now and just book your stay already. Fine with us, but we really should tell you a bit more.
The ramada (no, not the cookie-cutter-hotel-chain, but a freestanding shade structure) beside the outdoor tub is the perfect spot to enjoy the cooling breezes on sunny afternoons, or to share a meal while admiring the mountain views. There’s also an outdoor shower and sink there. The porches at Crystal Valley Cabin are also great places to relax in the shade while catching a breeze and marveling at the views.
Eventually, you may want to come inside. We recommend it anyway. You don’t have to and we won’t blame you if spend all your time outside. However, the bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen, and living room are pretty darn great, and useful, if you’re into that sort of thing. The master bedroom has a really comfortable queen bed with high quality linens and a bedframe that was hand built from a persimmon tree. The bedroom windows have a stunning view of East Corazón Peak. The second bedroom, with a view of Jack Eden Mesa, has a wood-framed bunkbed with a full bed on the bottom and twin bed on the top. The bathroom has a spacious tile shower (for those that prefer bathing inside). The large kitchen has ample counter and cabinet space, glass top electric range and oven, microwave, coffee maker, large fridge, bar counter, and a large picture window with a fantastic view of Jack Eden Mesa and crystal valley. The living room ties it all together with large leather easy chairs, a leather sofa, wood burning stove, large ceiling fans, and a breathtaking view of East Corazón Peak. There is even a branch from the property owner’s Madrone Tree hanging on the wall, just because it’s cool. If you need a place where you can focus on a little work (yeah right!), do some writing, or just get online without too many distractions, there is built in desk in the corner of the living room. Wi-Fi internet access is available throughout the home and on the porches.
Of course, after bathing under the stars, telling stories by the campfire, sleeping in the comfy beds, and relaxing in the living room, then logging onto social media to share your fun with all your friends, you might want to check out some of the amazing things to see and do in the area. Terlingua Ranch Lodge, just ten minutes away has a great pool plus the Bad Rabbit Café for great food, cold drinks, and frequent live music. The lodge office is also the place to register if you want to explore the Christmas Mountain conservation area. Terlingua and the western entrance to Big Bend National Park is a short 35-minute drive away. Adventure outfitters located in Terlingua offer river trips, horseback riding, jeep tours, ATV adventures, Jeep rentals, guided hikes, and mountain bike rentals. The famous Terlingua Ghost Town is just 40 minutes away. Both the Ghost Town and the Terlingua/Study Butte area offer shopping, dining, drinking, live music, art galleries, and more. Heading another 15 minutes west from Terlingua will take you to Lajitas for more upscale dining options, a few great shops, and the chance to meet Clay Henry, the beer drinking goat that happens to be the mayor. Big Bend Ranch State Park (the national park’s wild and rugged cousin) is right there as well. Stop in at the Barton Warnock center just before you get to Lajitas for an overview of the park, museum, and a terrific book shop. Alpine, Fort Davis, Marfa, and the McDonald Observatory are also within easy day trip range.
Come on down. Soak in our tub under the stars. Enjoy the Big Bend. Do as much or as little as you like. You’ll have a memorable time and will likely start planning your return trip before you even leave. That’s great. We’ll love to have come back over and over. In fact, that’s how the owners of Crystal Valley Cabin became the owners. They came out here so often and enjoyed staying at other Big Bend Vacation Rental properties so much that they eventually decide to buy and remodel their own. They were very deliberate and considerate in incorporating all the thing they enjoyed the most at other rentals, plus adding extra touches to create the ultimate Big Bend vacation home base. Now, they’re eager to share it all with you.
TERLINGUA RANCH: Located between Big Bend National Park and Big Bend Ranch State Park and including much of the town of Terlingua, Terlingua Ranch is a private subdivision of over 190,000 acres, divided into 9,500 tracts owned by about 5,000 individuals and crisscrossed by 1,100 miles of dirt and rock roads. Tracts range from five acres to several hundred acres. It is some of the most rugged and scenic land in Texas.
Back in the 1960’s, the Ghost Town and much of what later became “Terlingua Ranch” was owned by racing legend and car designer extraordinaire, Carol Shelby and some of his friends. The decided to promote the area by holding a chili cook-off in the then abandoned Ghost Town. That little stunt of a cook-off grew into CASI (Chili Appreciation Society International) which now hosts nearly 500 chili cook-offs around the nation and internationally, all leading up the championship cook-off every year in Terlingua. Shelby and friends later subdivided the Ranch and started selling it off to hunters and rugged naturalists. Over the decades, the area was reborn and an eclectic community of nature lovers, artists, musicians, adventurers, and folks just wanting to escape from “civilization” has grown and started to resettle this rough country.
People have come and gone. New buildings have risen while others have fallen, Dreams have been realized and others crushed. Through it all, the land remains. The harsh desert and vast openness encourages positive development and slowly swallows up and recovers from past abuses. The old cinnabar mine sites and ranching outposts persist as relics and ghost towns, some redeveloped, some carefully preserved, and others dissolving back into the desert. Abandoned dreams eventually become points of interests for those of us that stumble upon them decades later. Terlingua Ranch is a bizarre mix of old and new, good and bad, growth and decline, all completely unregulated. Modern homes with high values and stunning designs stand beside dilapidated do-it-yourself mistakes and abandoned ruins of the 1800’s and early 1900’s.
The landscape is even more varied than the people and the structures. Rugged mountains, deep canyons, wild arroyos, dry and wet creeks, peaceful valleys, breathtaking badlands, moonscape like mud flats, the remains of ancient volcanoes, and fossilized ancient seabeds. All of it nurturing a vast array of plant life and wildlife. Around every corner and over every hill lies new and unexpected surprises.
The Ranch is now home to a few hundred hardy souls. It is also dotted with a diverse array of vacation rental lodging options and campsites. Like the diverse land, they range in quality, style, value, and price. A few are amazing dream destinations. Some are good places to sleep. Others are the stuff of nightmares. (We don’t manage any in the nightmare category.)
Big Bend Vacation Rentals started out in 2007 and initially managed three of the first four vacation rentals in the Terlingua and Terlingua Ranch area. We now manage dozens out of a couple of hundred options. We represent dozens of property owners and have hosted tens of thousands of guests. You can trust us as managers, and you can rely on the properties that we manage. We have become very selective about the properties and the property owners that we add to our portfolio.

We loved this property! The views are amazing! The stars at night were beautiful! There is lots of outdoor seating to enjoy the scenery. We had everything we needed in the house. We were thankful for the big water dispenser to fill our water bottles for hiking in Big Bend. It was an easy 45 minute drive to the entrance of the park! Great place to stay!
The main rooms were flooded with natural light and beautiful views. Lots of outdoor seating areas. Located a little closer to a main road than I would like, but made it easily accessible.
My husband and I got away from the cold weather and loved the cabin in Terlingua. It was just what we needed. Cabin was perfect size, bed was very comfy, we had a bonfire every night, and were able to soak in the outdoor tub one evening. It was so relaxing. Would definitely stay again.
Second time we’ve stayed. Quiet and great fir stargazing. Great outdoor living spaces with extra chairs, tables, multiple patios to have sun or shade all day.
We LOVED this property and will definitely come back. The location was remote and safe. All amenities as described. Comfortable beds. Plenty of utensils. Solid appliances. Good internet. A bit of a distance to Big Bend National Park but we did not mind the drive (beautiful scenery!) and stayed at home some days to walk and enjoy right where the home was located. Highly Highly recommend.
I cannot say enough about how much we loved this house and property!! The house was surprisingly modern and comfortable inside. WiFi worked great. Nicely stocked kitchen. Gorgeous sweeping views from every side. Multiple great outdoor sitting areas. Secluded. Private. Loved the fire pit for a chilly night. Outdoor tub initially didn’t have hot water, which manager fixed right away. Reasonable drive to Big Bend (40 minutes).
Great property. A couple of issues with kitchen items when checked in but property manager took care of this. Quick response from property manager. I would have a suggestion of putting some type of privacy up in the window that’s actually in the shower due to some might not like the view into the shower while showering with the main road so close even though you can’t see the road from the window. Would recommend property for your trip.
Two of my friends and I drove in for a long weekend to combat our stir craziness from COVID, and this was the perfect location for it. We had so much space to ourselves around the property to sit out by a small campfire at night, or drink coffee on the porch in the morning. We especially loved the outdoor bathing area, it's so fun to take in a sunset that way! Easy access to all the main areas of Big Bend and Terlingua, and plenty of wifi for Netflix on those extra toasty afternoons. Will absolutely stay again!
House was perfect the view was even better! Clean, everything you need to cook a meal, and did I mention the view?!? Looking at the stars every night was definitely our highlight of this trip. It’s also a short amazing scenic drive to the Big Bend national Park and Rio grande river. Would definitely booked this location again!
We loved this cozy little slice of paradise! My husband and I used this house as a base camp for Big Bend Ranch State Park! It is about 1+ hours to the closest trail but, this house is so worth it! The outdoor shower and bathtub were AMAZING after a long day hiking and the view outside the master reminds you what beautiful land you are in every morning! Highly recommended for anyone staying out this way! For Big Bend Ranch State Park we recommend... *Hoodoos -Great for kids *Closed Canyon *Cinco Tinajas - Minor rock climbing involved. Happy Travels! Paved road to the property. Small section of gravel that is totally passable by experienced motorcyclists. Gem of the region. Very private! Beautiful!!
All around great experience. Lovely property with everything you could need for a trip to or near Big Bend. Modern furnishings in a rustic setting.
My friends and I (group of 5) stayed at Crystal Valley for 2 nights. It is even more beautiful and serene than pictures represent. It is stocked full of amenities, things you didn't even think you would need. The place is clean and comfortable. The views from every single window are breath taking. Especially the view from the window above the kitchen sink. I wouldn't mind doing the dishes every day with that view. You are far away enough to feel secluded, but close enough to Terlingua, Alpine, and Big Bend to not have to drive too far. Can't wait to be back!
Great cozy and comfy home! Quiet, peaceful, serene location with everything you need for a lovely stay.
What a wonderful way to spend a Christmas week -- for us it was a calm, serene, and awe inspiring time. While the outside was 19th century American frontier, the cabin was definitely 21st century -- great Wifi, a TV system that gets more channels and programs then what we have at home, an open and modern living/kitchen space with windows galore. And, oh, the stars that are so big and bright! We lucked out when renting Crystal Valley Cabin and are talking about a return visit.
Great location, great amenities and easy access to Big Bend. Jay
Nice little house with everything you need. Clean, great decor. We will be back.
I have rented 3 properties in which Daryl and Janet manage and they all have been wonderful
If you need a place where you can sit in peace and look at some beautiful scenery, this is the place for you. It was so relaxing that we just didn't leave the house! When the weather was warm enough, we sat outside, soaking in nature. When it was too chilly and damp, the comfy recliners in front of the big windows looking over the mountains were perfect. It was too chilly for the tub, but we'll be back for that. This is definitely a place to visit again - and for a longer stay!
Great location and we loved the modern amenities of the home. The only part I was confused about is on the directions to the home it says Backer Rd, but it's actually Crystal Valley Trl.
This place is far enough out that you can choose to stay quiet and away from everything but close enough to town that you can get to things. It was a nice trip for unwinding
This property is a real gem in an area where lodging is a bit challenging to find. The interior was perfect for the location, very comfy and perfect for 2 couples. Good wifi. Lots of places to sit outdoors and enjoy the scenery. Property managers were easily accessible for questions. Kitchen was pretty well stocked. Wished all the windows had screens so we could have opened them at night to enjoy the cool air but the air conditioning worked just fine. We were there with the dark night sky which was great - lots of stars. About 40 minutes to the entrance to of the park (of course more driving to get to where you want to go) but that worked great. We stocked up on groceries in Alpine (which I highly recommend). Nice coffee shop in Terlingua and a few restaurants but this place is wonderfully remote so plan accordingly! Water is precious out there but we had water to shower (and used it sparingly) and ample bottle water provided for drinking and cooking. Just a perfect place to use as a home base for a visit to Big Bend.
Hidden gem in the Last Frontier!
Spacious property in a stunning location. Large living area with a leather sofa and 2 recliners. The kitchen was modern and well equipped. We loved eating dinner on the back porch with an amazing view of the mountains. We will certainly rent this house if we're back in the Big Bend area.
We want to make this clear at the start. Our stay in this house was a 5-star stay. We are frequent VRBO guests & we've become VERY stingy with that 5th star. We've stayed in some houses that were over the top in terms of luxurious features & they set the bar pretty high. This little house is not luxurious in that way. You can't even drink the water that comes from the tap! So even with that handicap this little place still earned a fifth star! The tap water is from a filtered rainwater cistern system and is for washing & bathing only. The water that goes in your mouth is provided by a large 5-gal. water cooler in the kitchen, with plenty of refills at hand. This was convenient & easy to get used to. The owners request reasonable conservative use of the tap water and this didn't cramp our style at all. Don't let the water aspect dissuade you. The house itself is not luxurious. It has an unfussy, scrupulously-clean but liveable feel that made us feel immediately at home. The master bed was comfortable. We cook at least one meal every day wherever we stay and we found the kitchen well appointed and attractively laid out. And what's outside the doors: Wow! Every view is movie scenery. At night you can read by the moon in the clear desert air. There are 3 furnished patio areas where you can relax & take it all in. Terlingua Ranch Rd. is paved and there is a short gravel driveway to the house. The house is near the road, but a clever placement hides the driveway from the southern view. The outdoor experience is remote, remarkable and hard to describe. Despite the remoteness, the electricity and communications/TV-streaming worked very reliably for us. This is important when you are so far out in the desert . One consideration is that the 5-gal water bottles weigh 42 lbs. So you have to lift those into the cooler receptacle when a bottle is empty. The property managers are available for issues like that but the remoteness means that assistance is never just around the corner. We had no issues requiring owner/management interaction during our stay and the standard interactions were friendly, professional, and trouble-free. This is a lovely little house in an exquisitely remote & beautiful place. If you are looking for silence, beauty and endless skies., come stay in this little desert home.
The property is ok, but we lost power the second day, no water either.
I feel so bad for waiting so long to write a review as our stay was spectacular and Janet was a very accommodating host. The secluded location with unbelievable immediately made a lasting memory that I will never forget. The Cabin was furnished with modern appliances, much more well kept than I had ever expected from such an isolated place, and had everything you could ever need. There was a charcoal grill we used to barbecue and a fire pit for the nights under the beautiful stars. My wife and I came to Big Bend with hopes of seeing the beautiful night sky because of Big Bend’s worldwide reputation for stargazing, and we were definitely not disappointed. We could almost see the entire Milky Way under the clear night sky that we were blessed with, and we even stayed up until after midnight just looking up at the night sky, listening to music, and enjoying the sound of critters and silence away from the big city of Dallas. Although we stayed in the middle of August, the cabin had AC that worked great. The bed was probably the most comfy bed I have slept in as well, not even joking, that was some of the best sleep we have had in a long time. This property was only a 20 minute drive to the wonderful town of Terlingua and there is a phenomenal cafe called Bad Rabbit Cafe only a 10 minute drive from the cabin at Terlingua Ranch Lodge that had the best fries and chicken strips we’ve ever had. We loved this stay so much we asked to stay an additional night and thankfully it wasn’t booked so Janet let us stay an extra night with short notice which was so nice and reflective of her hospitality. My wife and I will definitely be back to this cabin soon to enjoy the priceless experience we had before, and we strongly encourage anyone to stay here and enjoy the spectacular valley, mountain and stargazing views.
Our stay at Crystal Mountain was fantastic! Our original booking was for Crystal Valley. That property had a last minute maintenance issue and we were re-routed to the Crystal Mountain property. The CM house was extremely nice, clean, secluded, and met our needs perfectly. The mountain views were incredible and the wildlife on and around the property was great as well. Thank you to Daryl for saving our trip! Wonderful visit! Can’t wait to do it again.
We were here at the end of May for my partner's birthday and absolutely loved our stay. The house is a great size with a very functional layout and well appointed. We never felt like we were staying in someone else's house. It has a comforting and comfortable vibe that we enjoyed and appreciated. Accessing the house from the main road was much easier than I've experienced with other rentals in the area. The views are amazing and seeing the stars at night was just incredible and awe-inspiring. We also did a day trip on the Rio Grande, ate at The Starlight Theater and explored Alpine. The property manager was always quick to respond and made the booking process easy and transparent. We would definitely stay again and highly recommend it.
Entire process was easy. Renting, finding the house, directions for everything to do with the house! I loved our trip and hope to do it again sometime!
This is my second stay at Crystal Valley. It was as great as before. Clean, comfy with perks like the outdoor tub, it’s such a great place to stay.
Crystal Valley was so beautiful and comfortable we had a hard time convincing the group to go get in the car and explore. It’s like your own private Big Bend luxury desert oasis. Spent a lot of time on the Terrace and took a bath out under the stars. Don’t hesitate - this is the place in every way. WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND - you won’t be disappointed.
Around 40 minutes to Big Bend Park entrance but beautiful house and really clean. Nice place to stay with all accommodations provided.
Such a great place for sightseeing in the Big Bend area. We loved the house, the outdoor amenities and the spectacular views.
everything was perfect! the house was fully stocked and more. the furniture was the best I've ever had in a rent house. the isolated views we're amazing! we we're there in the spring of a great wildflower season so the house was surrounded by beautiful bluebonnets! would happily stay here again.
We love this place. It’s a beautiful way to experience the Big Bend region. The house is set in the perfect spot with views beyond words. The outdoor bathtub is an experience unlike any other! The house is beautiful, comfortable, and has everything we need. We can’t recommend this place enough. We’ll return here with our family again and again.
The property was beautiful, and the house was clean and well decorated. It was even better in person than what we saw in the pictures. We enjoyed our stay and are glad we chose this house for our Big Bend vacation.
We really enjoyed the Crystal Valley house, which is as lovely as advertised, clean and spacious, very well stocked kitchen and comfy furnishings indoors and out. We were lucky to be there when it was surrounded by fields of blue bonnets and other wildflowers, really spectacular. The outdoor tub is fun, totally private and views for miles. Quiet place, day or night. Polar vortex hit the first day and the heat took a couple hours to kick in, but after that it stayed warm, and by the end of the week we had the A/C on and that worked fine too. Great communication with property managers, although cell phone and cable connections were often iffy. Two books provided at the house were full of useful local info and recommendations. It's a half hour drive to Terlingua and a few more minutes into the national park, or another 10-15 to the state park, so lots of driving to get to hiking or river floats, but it's all scenic. Would love to come back here!
We had a great time staying here. It was close to Big Bend and Terilingua. We appreciate the tips on stopping in Alpine for groceries. The directions were a bit challenging once we got to the ranch. Never did see Backer Rd. But we found it after a couple turnarounds. The location was remote and quite. We will book again when we come back to Big Bend, if it’s available!
We were so pleased with this rental from the moment we arrived. The house is comfortable, well stocked and beautifully decorated. It was so peaceful to sip our morning coffee looking out at the beautiful scenery and watching the jack rabbits and then sitting outside at night and viewing the stars. The night sky there is absolutely amazing!!!! It is about a 30-40 minute scenic drive to Big Bend National Park so the home is convenient but nice and secluded to return to at the end of the day. We visited the park, McDonald Observation and enjoyed hiking to the top of Christmas Mountain. It was a great trip!
Marvelous location. Easy access to Big Bend and Terlingua ghost town. Views of surrounding mountains and night sky are stunning. Property is clean and well maintained. Bedding is very comfortable. We will look to return here in the future.
Janets place was better than expected, a real find. The location was convenient to everything we needed to do, and the setting was stunning and very private. Lots of little touches made it cozy and fun to be there. Can’t wait to come back!
These owners have thought of everything! This is the best VRBO I have stayed in. Kitchen is well stocked, massive amounts of towels, supplies for grilling, games, everything you can think of was here. Definitely a great place for our family of 5.
Private, clean, unique and offering all the comforts of home. We absolutely loved it!
We spent five beautiful days out at Crystal Valley with our family and some friends. The kids had more fun than any of us - and we had the best time possible. This house is set in a highly private area overlooking an expansive valley and epic mountains. It's secluded yet very accessible - just 30 sec off the main road. The outdoor shower and tub were incredible and the house itself is so thoughtfully set up and decorated that it made for a memorable vacation. Beds are very comfortable and the whole place has a great vibe. We even made smores around the fire pit and the kids still talk about it. We can't wait to go back. We highly recommend this spot for any Big Bend or Terlingua adventures.
Tranquil spot with amazing views and comfortable accommodations far from the madding crowd. We’ve been spending time in the beautiful Big Bend country for twenty-five years now and this is our first time not staying in the Chisos Basin which is just getting way too crowded. What a great base to explore Big Bend Ranch State Park, a must from now on. The few nights with clear skies showed an amazing Milky Way and shooting stars. Just sit in the comfy outdoor seating areas and take it all in. A bath in the outdoor tub is an exhilarating experience. Don’t worry, the temperature is nice and hot and there is no waste of precious water when you drain the tub. This place rocks. Don’t hesitate and book Crystal Valley!
Beautiful place with everything we needed for our family of five. Great location, about 20 minutes to entrance of park. Quiet and dark skies.
Adorable and super clean property. We loved watching wildlife from the windows. Beware that the house does not have central heating - it was very cold at night in November. Bring extra blankets!!
We had a fantastic time! House was comfortable and had nearly everything we needed. So quiet and secluded. Outdoor tub was a dream! A tea kettle and muffin pan were the only things we wished we had but made do with a sauce pot to hear water for the French press and a loaf pan to make breakfast. Thanks for everything.
Crystal Valley didn’t fail to impress, eclectic decor and character are spot on for this area of Texas and added to the experience, loved it! Ammeneties are more than adequate! Only wishing we had a little more time!
The house was perfect very clean had everything we needed. The views were amazing.
The house is beautiful and and offered everything we were looking for. Our only problem was the street name change! The change was recently made but not reflected in the directions. We did a circle or two but found it. We would love to stay again when the weather is favorable so we could enjoy the outdoor amenities!
Property is clean and well maintained. It is only 150 ft from a road so much of the house and front yard are visible from the road. That was the only negative. It is a beautiful location with nice amenities. Easy access to the park, Terlingua ranch and other outdoor activities.
I don't know where to begin.. we enjoyed our stay tremendously! The views from the house are much more than what the pictures here can show. Beautiful, beautiful property. I stayed here with my husband in October 2018 while celebrating our 25th Wedding anniversary. I fell in love with the house as soon as I opened the door. I knew it was going to be perfect for us. I loved everything about the house and the rustic looking floors (although they appear new) tie everything together. The house is very clean and well stocked with little extras that you may need. My favorite area was the side porch facing the road and I believe the Corazon mountains. You can't really see the road but can see the top of a car/truck if one should drive by. It has a really nice deck with Adirondack chairs and the view is gorgeous. I sat there in the mornings with a cup of coffee, enjoying the sounds of the birds waking up and starting their day. The sun rising and throwing light on to the mountain and surrounding area was very pretty. The property itself is pretty! Lots of flowers and cactus. The smell of something wonderful filled the air. It had to be one of those many flowering bushes. It was fantastic! We could only see a few houses from this house... way off in to the distance. Loved the peace & quiet and seclusion. We got to witness a lighting storm one night and we could see it go on for miles. It went on until the wee hours of the morning. We got a quick downpour but never lost power. Oh! We had no issues with Verizon service in the house. But they do have a landline if you need it. This property had several fire pits to enjoy and we ended up using one, one night. After hiking Big Bend all day, we were too tired to drive back in to town for dinner so we roasted wieners & had hot dogs. I didn't find any roasting sticks when we arrived, so I bought one (and left it there at the house for others to use). Cottonwood General store in Terlingua has all sorts of food, etc! I can't say a negative thing about this house. It's so cute and although it's maybe 20 minutes outside the town of Terlingua and I guess 25 minutes outside of Big Bend NP (just guessing because we enjoyed the drive) we LOVED being away from town. LOVED the peace & quiet & the stars! Oh the stars!! We also saw the Milky Way! We recommend Crystal Valley. We hope to return in a few years. Property management was helpful with any questions! I recommend Big Bend Vacation Rentals. ~The Radcliffs
Another amazing trip to our favorite vacation rental. This place is more than special. Comfortable beds, beautiful big kitchen and living room, all the outdoor hangs. It's the best.
I saw wowed right away walking through the front door. I love the stone island. The open floor plan flows well for entertaining or family gathering. The views out the back are spectacular - view from inside the house or sit on the back porch. You can even have an outdoor shower or bath! It's a lovely, warm and inviting house and I enjoyed my two nights there immensely. I ended up staying in for the 2nd night when I was supposed to go out to eat at the Star Light. I chose to heat up some leftovers and hangout at the house. Yeah, this house invites you to stay and hang!
Loved the seclusion! Definitely worth a drive from Dallas! And the stars at night were ....(speechless)
Truly one of our favorite vacation spots in the world. Brought our family of four and the house was perfect - would have been fine for five too. Big open and stylish kitchen and living room was more than comfortable. The bedrooms are spacious and the beds were more comfortable than ours at home! Outdoor areas were our favorite - take a shower or bath outside and you'll know why this is our kind of place. Views are incredible. Obvious attention to the details and comforts that matter. All in a location that is far enough from everything but accessible to all the parks and Terlingua. Can't recommend Crystal Valley enough. Would give it 10-stars if possible!!
The house was so clean, great customer service from the owners, everything we expected and more. Thank you for a great stay, we would recommend this house to anyone.
This was place was beautiful! We enjoyed the views from every window. The place is well equipped and comfy. I highly recommend it!
We stayed Friday - Monday and it was a great location and a wonderful place. The beds were great, the small area was well equipped with all the things you need to enjoy. The one challenge was that these remote areas are supplied with (2) water tanks to use for showers and cooking. Tragically the water tank had some kind of problem and we ran out of water, not once, twice. While we were willing to do our part in helping to get the water back on, it was only that we hiked all day and was not at home which made this better. The management team of Janet and Darrell were AWESOME. They understood our challenge and we worked together to inspect areas for leaks, turn off and on valves on the tanks, etc. I would encourage the owner of this property to address this directly before it is rented again.
From being right outside of one of Big Bends entrances to the gorgeous view every night. Well maintained property, quiet, and it had all of the amenities we needed for our weekend away from the family. It was so awesome we are planning another trip to Big Bend in the future.
We've stayed here before and it was just as magical this time around. Brought the bikes this time and LOVED doing some moon-lit rides on Terlingua Ranch Road. House is exceptional with views from every angle. The upper patio was our favorite and the outdoor shower was a highlight. What a view!! This is our favorite place by far for quality time in the desert. Feeling completely quiet and isolated while being just 30sec from the paved road and 25min to Terlingua and a few more to the parks. We also have a new appreciation for the Lodge Pool down the road. It's seriously amazing!! Kids loved it and so did we. Just $5 per person - best five bucks I've ever spent! Can't wait to come back - it's our desrt oasis.
Wow ! Our first impression as drove up the driveway to begin our vacation in West Texas and Big Bend. The home is private and the scenery just can't be put into words. The front and side porches were our favorite place to drink coffee in the morning and watch the stars at night. The owners have created a comfortable and pleasing environment inside the home with their decor and amenities. Kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed to cook meals and the beds were comfortable. We brought our coolers and stocked up on food supplies as there are limited stores for purchasing meats and vegetables. But this is quintessential West Texas and if you're looking for the West Texas experience, there is no better place to relax, enjoy the scenery and experience nature. The owners for this property were first class . We noticed there was no grill available to use and the owners bought one and brought it to the property the following day! We used this property as our home base to explore Big Bend and the surrounding towns . We visited LaKiva for dinner in Terlingua and the steaks were exceptional ! Our experience with this home and the owners was a five star experience.
Great location, very clean, comfortable with great views! We loved our stay and can’t wait to go back.
Nice property. We enjoyed our stay especially being in such a remote peaceful setting. The house was quite comfortable and clean The only problem was that a propane grill was on the property description and therewasn't one there. There was a charcoal grill though. We had a really nice time at Big Bend I recommend Big Bend river tpurs.
We were blown away from the views from every room in this house! The house was very nicely decorated and very comfortable. There are also plenty of areas to enjoy the outdoors. We fell in love with this home and hope to come back very soon.
This is the perfect place if you're looking for a great jumping-off point for adventure, but don't feel like camping. The house slept our crew of five very comfortably and was a great place to come home to after a long day mountain biking in Big Bend Ranch State Park and hiking in the National Park. Sitting around a fire, enjoying a cold one and star-gazing was a great way to rest the legs for the next day and the huge kitchen was great for prepping meals for everyone. If you're looking for all the comforts of home, but still want to be out in the middle of nowhere, I would highly recommend this spot!
Pretty far out of town. Great little house with everything you need! Would stay here again.
Better than the photos!
Properly maintained. Firewood for fire. Enjoyed outdoor tub. Stars are amazing. Observedherd deer and jack rabbit out window.
This house is perfect for a (two) couples trip to Big Bend. The house is situated in a quiet area with beautiful views of the Christmas Mountains and surrounding landscape. We enjoyed the open floor plan and natural light. The kitchen had all the tools we needed to make breakfast, lunch, and dinner each day. Both bedrooms were clean, and the beds were comfortable. Our favorite part of the house was the fire pit, which was steps from the front door. We made a fire and enjoyed some smores and stargazing every night. I would highly recommend this place and would return here on my next trip to Big Bend!
Overall best stay ever in Big Bend area. Cabin is exceptionally well stocked, well maintained and in a lovely quiet setting. All stars at night. Most comfortable bed. Beautiful. Excellent stay.
My husband and I went for a couple days on our tour of Texas. We are from Canada and wanted to experience the desert. On our drive there we were a bit nervous about how remote it was but Janet's instructions had us well prepared. The house is wonderful, it has everything you need (lots of condiments etc). The only thing we didn't realize is that it is close to the road and if you showered outside you could see vehicles on the road. Not a big deal as there isn't much traffic.
Our favorite part was sitting outside at night and stargazing!
We would definitely stay here again. The outside space was wonderfully done with a patio and two fire pit areas for maximum enjoyment of the outdoors and star watching at night. The house was perfectly appointed for comfort with attention to detail for a relaxed stay. Very comfortable bed and kitchen and bathroom well stocked with basics.
We enjoyed the house, porches and fire pit. The surrounding area was beautiful. We drove to the park for daily hikes and enjoyed a couple of lunches at Chili peppers cafe. Amenities in the house were satisfactory. Beds were comfortable with nice linens. I would recommend this property to anyone visiting the area.
This house was pefect for a family of five. We enjoyed exploring the area around the house and saw a herd of javelinas while out hiking in the morning. The house was very clean and comfortable. The kitchen is well stocked with dishes, cookery and appliances. There is a fire pit and a grill to use as well. The house is in a great location to Big Bend as well as Terlingua, however you still feel like you are in the middle of nowhere. The stars in the evening are amazing. We lost count of the number of shooting stars we saw. You will not be disappointed by this house.
House is clean, well appointed, and situated in one of the most beautiful spots imaginable. It's so accessible yet so secluded. The views are epic. We'll be back every chance we get.
Great property for visiting Big Bend. All the amenities and plenty of space. Very clean and inviting.
Looking forward to staying here again. Way too many options on where to drink coffee and enjoy the views every morning!
The Weather and the Stars couldn't have been better. Had a great time enjoying Big Bend National Park and Big Bend Ranch State Park.
I felt like I was a million miles away yet I was 30 seconds from a paved road. Loved the facility, the setting, the privacy and all of the little touches that made this place like taking a step back into time and finding a retreat that was as restful and beautiful as any place I have ever been. Thank you so much!!!! I will never stay anywhere else when I return to this area. 5 STARS
Very clean. Kitchen has everything we needed and more. Enjoyed our time around the outside fire pits. Had plenty of privacy and a short drive to Trelingua and Big bend made it the perfect location for us. We will definitely be back again!
Pics don't do this place justice. It's beautiful. The outdoor bath is wonderful. I can't wait to go again!
We had an incredible four night stay at Crystal Valley. The views were some of the best we've ever seen. Look any direction and you'll see the most beautiful desert mountains and valleys. The home is also extremely accessible - right off the paved Terlingua Ranch Road, but also totally secluded. There are only a couple houses way way off in the distance. The outdoor bath and shower area was the cherry on top. Really nothing like taking a shower or bath out there - so beautiful. We can't wait to return
