It was an amazing week. The house was great. It had everything we needed. We had plenty of room for everyone. Laurel Marina was awesome to rent a boat for the day.
We enjoyed our time here
We only stayed for a few days but we had a great time. Nice to wake up to a beautiful view in the morning.
We rented this house for a race weekend with 4 adults and our dogs. We had an awesome time. The house is super close to the track and downtown, but far enough away that the quiet and darkness is MAGNIFICENT. The house had plenty of room for all of us, and probably another family without ever stepping on one another’s toes. The owner was super accommodating and easy to communicate with. The marina was so close and the lake was right across the street if it wasn’t so cold!! Kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed to make meals. We will definitely be back!
We took a long weekend for our honeymoon and truly enjoyed it all!!! The sunrise is stunning from all levels of the house!! We explored the local caverns, food in Bristol south Holston Dam, and even took our ZL1 to rode The Tail of the Dragon. We picked a weekend with record breaking lows so we didn’t do a lot in/on the water but plan to return with the kids and enjoy that too!! Our hosts were amazing and everything went smoothly!!!
Close to track.
Property was accommodating for our small family.
The house was great for our stay. Plenty of room for two families. The view was breathtaking! We really liked the location, very quiet.
Property was nice, easy to find and close to some hikes; there is no yard though and you must drive everywhere except to the one lake it's on, no hiking possibility to walk to. The owner was responsive and a nice place to get away for a few days.
We had a great long weekend on South Holston Lake. Being next to the marina was very convenient. We rented a boat for the day and had a great time exploring the lake. I would recommend Bernard's house to anyone looking for quiet relaxation.
We very much enjoyed our stay here. We came for an extended weekend for some liking and to bike the Virginia creeper trail. Although the weather didn’t allow us to do our hiking, we still found things to do to make the most of our weekend. The creeper trail is awesome. We also enjoyed Bristol Caverns as we were able to do that on our rainy day. The house allowed the kids to find a quiet place to enjoy some downtime. Super cute home. The steps are no joke but no complaint here as it allowed for some exercise since we were not able to go hiking!! Would definitely stay here again.
We originally rented the house to attend the Rhythm and Roots, which was canceled. We came any way. We rented a pontoon from Laural Marina which is in walking distance. WOW the house is right there. We had the most relaxed day of our vacation. The house accommodations met all 7 guests needs. The house was stocked with lots of extras. It wasn't a problem for us. However the stairs may be a challenge for some. We will definitely rebook if we come back for the festival. Thank you for the use of you beautiful beach house.
Fun house and a stone’s throw from the lake. We brought our boat and were able to see it from the house at the dock below. The steps were not bad and good exercise. It was fun counting them. We had plenty of hot water for showering, just waited awhile in between. The air conditioning couldn’t work any better and kept the house very cool. We didn’t think talking garbage to the dumpster was a problem, just called the number and they automatically opened the gate. We cooked just about all our meals there and used the gas grill almost every night. We enjoyed our stay and so did our young adult grandchildren. House is stocked full of games for rainy days. Shopping Is close by. Friendly neighborhood. In fact every one we met while staying there was very friendly! The lake is beautiful and we spent a lot of time boating and exploring the fingers in the lake. The owner knows a fishing guide who took us fishing for Striper. Caught fish all morning and got a 41 inch Striper! Yes we would stay again.
We had a great mini vaca at this property. It is true that it is an exercise challenge, but well worth the steps. Well-stocked rental. Due to Covid concerns, we prepared food before arriving and had all our meals there. The owners have thought of everything to make this property a great get-away vacation property. The only issues we had were hot water issues, but that was only during certain times of the day. I gave a 5 on cleanliness but we felt the property could certainly use a deep clean. Would love to have spent more time, but maybe can rent again in the future.
Just spent 9 days at this property. House is as described. Comfortable, well equipped and most importantly, clean. The only compliant/suggestion would be shades or blinds on the windows. Incredible views but prefer privacy at night. Owners were very responsive. Would stay here again.
Nice lake house for our family vacation. Had plenty of space inside and out to be together. Loved we were able to dock our boat within eyesight and bring our dog. We spent many hours swimming around in quiet cove in front of house. Got our steps in :) but no issues with all taking care up and down. Beautiful views from every level of house. Would stay again.
Beautiful home just as listed. The 4 levels worked great since we had 2 families sharing the home. The main living space was large and we each had our own quiet space when needed. There is a road to cross to get to the dock, but it wasn't busy during the week. I would definitely stay here again.
Great location but many steep stairs to deal with. Not a good idea with preschoolers/toddlers. Furniture is very uncomfortable overall. Towels and linens/pillows are old and faded. Decor is dated and dusty. A/C did not work properly. Trash disposal is a big hassle; must take all bags to the marina and the gate key would not work. Otherwise, we had a delightful time enjoying the lake on our rented pontoon.
This place was perfect for us. We had a few mishaps, but those happen; it is how the owner handles them that matters the most. Bernard was fully invested in making sure our stay was pleasant and he succeeded! I will say that it shows that it sleeps 12. However, keep in mind that with 3 couples we each got our own bedroom. For families and situations where children can sleep on extra pull our couches etc, it sleeps 12. I would say for an adults group it is 7-9 maximum. Also, there are no sharp knives for cooking. You might as well use your hand as your result would be the same :) Minor, of course, but keep that in mind if your group is planning on cooking meals at the rental. The other set back is the trash take out. You are required to drive your trash to the marina and use a card that may or may not work to dispose of your trash or the raccoons will get into it. It’s a little inconvenient, but we got it done as a group effort. As far as the ‘busy street’ others mentioned between the house and boating dock... I’m pretty sure we saw 5-7 cars on our 4 day stay. It’s not a highly trafficked area and didn’t cause a concern for us. Overall, we liked our rental and would go back and do it all over again!
Very comfortable house designed for lake and mountain views. The owners graciously supply everything you need for your stay from paper towels to life jackets. Definitely for the physically agile since everything involves lots of stairs esp getting down to the dock. Perfect location if you have a boat or want to rent a boat.
Everything was efficient and straightforward. The kids had a great time in the upper room. Appreciated the ability to bring our dog. We were surprised that the lake was across the street. From the pictures, it looked like it was in the backyard. The house was very clean. The dock is getting a little worn down though as are the stairs to the dock. It was a pretty treacherous climb for my mother. Overall good stay and we recommend it.
Not coming from the area I did not realize how scarce direct lake property was on this lake. It was wonderful to have a dock to swim and fish from. The house had an abundance of things to do for kids. I would definitely return
The lake house met our needs for a family Christmas. 6 adults and 4 children ages 5 and under. Beautiful view and plenty of space. Adults and children wanted to stay longer.
There are hardly enough positive words to describe the wonderfulness of this property! We so enjoyed the delightful & spacious multi-level house with it's wrap-around porches, balconies & gorgeous views. Not to mention the well-equipped kitchen, comfy beds & plenteous table/seating arrangement. No need to bring your own board games (although we did) -- there are plenty to choose from, as well as jigsaw puzzles & an interesting library. These owners have thought of everything and were easy to work with. I'm already thinking of a return trip in the summer so we can enjoy the lake as well.
Our family had our second memorable stay located near Laurel marina. This time it was during a beautiful fall weekend and the view of the Cherokee Mountains and the change in leaves was spectacular.
Everything as expected, between the description and the reviews everything is pretty much covered. No problems.
My family and I really enjoyed our stay. Property owner was great to work with the house was well kept and clean. It was well worth it.
As soon as we drove onto the property, we knew the listing description was not accurate. The house is not on a lake. There is a road between the house and the dock, where cars are flying through back and forth to get in and out of the marina. Not safe. There was a bad storm that swept in about an hour after our arrival, causing the power to go out and several leaks to pop up in the house. Our first experience was trying to find buckets to catch the water coming in. We ended up leaving to go find a place to eat because the house had no power and was leaking. The next morning, I woke up to find my car in the driveway had been hit and damaged by another vehicle overnight. Oh, and the wasps were everywhere! Had to have a can of wasp killer around at all times. Overall, not a pleasant stay and would not go back.
We had a lovely stay at this unique lake house. The owner was very responsive to all our questions. They are not kidding about the steps, so be ready! There was plenty of room for our family of four, the dog and grandparents. It is an older house but we didn’t have any issue, a few things needed repair but the owner was advised and it was not an issue. The location is great, we were a little worried about how close the house is to 421 and on the road to the biggest marina on the lake but it was not an issue at all. The marina staff are wonderful, the lake is beautiful and the house was just what we needed for our family vacation, would definitely recommend
Views and lake itself are amazing. Water is perfect and renting a boat was simple as the marina is a walk down the street. However, the rental house itself has its share of issues. The walk to the dock and the dock itself are borderline unsafe, and are definitely not recommended for small children or elderly. Only real bathroom in the house doesn’t have a shower. The one bathroom downstairs has a small size corner shower and shares the space with a water heater, washer/dryer, and seems like an after thought. The other bathroom on the third floor doesn’t have real doors so anybody can see in it while it is in use. Bedroom window leaked. The third floor real sized shower leaked down into the kitchen cabinets, which was a huge mess that had to be cleaned and also made that bathroom unusable for the last couple days of our stay. The furniture in the house is uncomfortable. The couch in the sunroom was dry rotted from the sun-but that shouldn’t be an issue for any newcomers as we were forced to pay for a new one. I recommend taking lots of pictures of the house before you get settled, as well as along the way if there are any issues like leaks or questionable issues. Documentation is key if you are concerned about your security deposit. No doubt the owner will spin this to make us sound like complainers and mention our dogs as the issue. We would just like to warn that if you choose to go- beware and document. All in all, a beautiful area. We would not stay in this house again, as there are probably better options for the money spent.
Location is good, and there was plenty of room for our large party. Overall Our stay was pleasant, but property has an awkward layout, and it is a little tired. Kitchen is cramped and not very well appointed. Stairs to boat dock are a little dangerous.
We had a great time in this house! It was a bonus that there was many supplies available. Everything in the house worked as it should. The home was well lived in but in working order. There is a plethora of stairs But this is the price you pay for such a wonderful view and staying on the side of a mountain.
Can’t say enough about this home. It has beautiful views of the lake in a very quiet area. Close to the track, caverns, shopping, restaurants and the scenic Snake road. The house itself was very comfortable for 5 adults with enough room to spread out or be together. The owners were very gracious and we really appreciated staying in their home. Would definitely recommend it to anyone as long as steps are not an issue. Looking forward to our next visit. Thank you.
we spend a week for new year 2019, we enjoy the view to the lake and the commodities of the house. we definitely stay again.
Our family met up in Bristol for the holiday and this house had everything that we needed Plenty of room, full kitchen and outstanding views Owner thoughtfully confirmed with us that we had no issue with stairs (one flight from car to house, a second flight to kitchen/bedroom and a third spiral staircase to the loft bedroom). It’s a lived-in, well loved, lake house - we would return!
We were two couples enjoying a great visit back to Bristol for Rhythm & Roots and a wedding. The home had plenty of room for enjoying our guests. When we had down time there was plenty of room for quiet rest without constricting the activities of others. The house was stocked with a large number of games for children and adults. We grilled on the patio and enjoyed the peaceful surroundings. Our trips to town were easy and quick. The atmosphere was calm and quiet throughout our stay. We will attempt to stay here in the future on our trips back home to Bristol.
We were very pleased...it's a beautiful home with plenty of space and the owners were very responsive and helpful. It has everything you need, and truly feels like your home away from home. We would definitely stay again.
August 2018 - Our vacation week on South Holston Lake was all we hoped it would be staying at this versatile home. I grew up in Bristol and frequented the lake for many years. So we knew of this home which is situated next to Laurel Marina. This was our first time staying there. The owners carefully maintain their home and were very responsive to any correspondence I sent before and during our stay. There are many bedrooms, decks, and porches for unlimited space no matter what your age. At night we enjoyed the spacious common area on the main floor adjacent to the open kitchen area so we all stayed together. We never turned on the TV's. We enjoyed board games for a change which were provided. We chose this home knowing it had a private dock, was next to the marina, and not far by boat to the South Holston Dam area on the TN side where we also spent each day on the most scenic, uninhabited areas of the lake (in our opinion) even on the weekend days. The lake provided us, as in past years, many spectacular areas to ski often with no wave activity. Though no one fished, this is a prime destination spot for this activity. There are many cove areas nestled adjacent to the Cherokee National Forest if you have access by boat. We trailered our whaler and once launched enjoyed the lake the entire day. Staying at this home at the lake vs in town allowed us much flexibility to come and go during the entire stay and no lost hours commuting out to the lake. I would highly recommend taking time to visit the city. We just happen to be a boating family. Upon arrival, the home was very clean and ready to go which made our clean up on Sunday morning when we left much easier. We definitely plan to return.
We were very disappointed by this house. It is not actually a four bedroom. One of the bedrooms is just a loft that leads to a closed off separate bedroom on the 3rd floor. The fully stocked kitchen was missing some key items. It did have an obscene amount of coffee cups (taking up the majority of the cupboards) but it was missing measuring cups and baking sheets/pans among other things. I am used to having mixed/matched things in rental kitchens but they have always had at least 1 measuring cup and 1 baking sheet/pan. We ended up having to buy those and just left them there. Misleading pictures were taken from such an angle that it does not show that there is a street in between the house and the stairs down to the dock. The stairs to the dock are unsafe and poorly maintained. Listing mentioned a communal pool; I can only guess that was referencing the lake. The house is very haphazardly maintained. The oven was held together by duct tape. The washing machine took hours to complete 1 load because the water was just trickling in. The handle for clothes dryer was a metal hanger. The house was overall dirty/dusty upon our arrival. The jetted bathtub was scary/dirty. I could keep going, but that wouldn't leave any room for what is by far the most infuriating part of our stay. We rented the boat from the “third party” mentioned on the listing. This “boat” was in horrible condition, but we figured it would give us the benefit of having the boat outside Marina hours. We unfortunately assumed that the boat worked. The battery was dead upon our arrival and there was no rope for the anchor among many other things. After wasting the majority of our first day waiting for Ricky to deliver a battery jump pack, we discovered that the battery couldn't hold a charge anyways after wasting hours at a Marina waiting for the battery to charge. Our second day of the rental ended after we died in the middle of the lake and had to be towed back. We asked for a refund because our only two days with this boat were headache-filled to say the least. We were only given a partial refund because that “was only fair”. What would have been fair was to have an operational boat! I recommend renting from the Marinas. It is more than worth the money. We rented from various marinas the rest of our trip and we should have done that that from the beginning. First, the boats actually worked. Not to mention, they boats were much newer and didn’t guzzle gasoline.
Very nice view, unique style home very spacious. It was a little dusty but nothing too bad. My family and I really enjoyed it and definitely recommend this vacation home ❤
I got charged for not vacuuming even though the paperwork at the house on check out procedure calls for sweeping (which we did) for the amount of money we spent I think it's crazy.
We had a wonderful time during our stay. Lovely home with lots of room. It does have ALOT of stairs that I couldn't really tel about from the pictures but that could be an issue for older renters and the dock is accessible across the road and down a lot of stairs. As long as stairs are not a problem this house is perfect for large groups!!!
We loved the lake house very roomy and very nice . We loved being close to the lake and having our own dock . Our kids had a blast . Was our first time at South Holston and we loved it beautiful lake . We will be back . The LaRue's
Owner was very easy to work with and grill had propane for outdoor cooking. So many of the houses we have rented promise propane but tank is always empty. House is well suited for teens and adults but not younger kids. Parking is very limited especially if you have a boat. Overall, house is just as it appears in the pictures. Decks were very nice.
My family very much enjoyed staying in this house. It had plenty of space for us, there was absolutely nothing we needed besides food! It's in a great location and views are beautiful, and the cove was perfect for the kids to jump off the dock and swim. We rented a boat at a nearby marina and spent the day on the lake. It is gorgeous!! The only concern I had was the condition of the stairs going down to the lake, as long as you take your time you should be just fine. I'll definitely be back!!
Overall we had a great stay! The house had so much to do. We spent our evenings playing cards and games. The kids enjoyed the fact that they each had a place to hide out for a bit without us. Needless to say, there's plenty of room to spread out. We rented a boat at a Marina nearby and spent a day on the lake; it was great! The water wasn't too busy and had easy access to the house for lunch/restroom. The house is a little dated, but not different than most other lake homes we've stayed in. On the surface, it appeared to be tidy and neat, but could use a good cleaning.
Bernard was great to work with. The house was really cute and plenty of space. Lovely area. We have no complaints. There were a few minor issues but they were addressed right away. Overall, it was great!
We booked this at the last minute for a quick get away before we dropped our daughter off at Virginia Tech. It was a great house to spread out in, 3 teenagers and they all had their own room. the fooseball was a hit! The private cove was a relaxing spot to read and enjoy a glass of wine. The only things you need is a bathing suit and some food. the house was equip with whatever we needed to cook a couple of meals. we walked around Bristol, antique shopped, Hiked at the Channels, kayaked down the Holston River, biked the Creeper trail, and rented a Pontoon and explored the lake. It was so convenient to doc the boat at the house for a quick lunch! We went to the Farmer's market in Abingdon and got some veggies and awesome bread! Lots to see and do!! This was a good basecamp location Great way to cap off the summer and regroup for another school year! Bernard was great to work !!!
Had a great vacation week with our family of 6 at this house. The floor plan was perfect for us and our grown children. Plenty of spaces indoors and out for whole group and small group gatherings...reading, napping, cooking, playing games. There is a gorgeous view from every room in the house. We enjoyed being next door to the marina, swimming off the dock, kayaking and boating with friends. House was well stocked and owners are gracious about sharing their home and its contents...kitchen supplies, life jackets, floats, etc. It was a wonderful week and we hope to stay there again!
This was my families first time to the Bristol, TN area (two teenagers) and the trip exceeded our expectations. The house itself has plenty of character and multiple levels. Our girls enjoyed the spiral staircase to the loft and had their own space. You are able to see the lake from most rooms and the deck is very spacious and enjoyable. The house is adequately stocked with all pots, pans, spices for cooking and there is a nearby New York Style Pizza place that delivers and has great food. The house was perfect and my family explored the lake with the provided Sea Eagle Canoe and kayaks (we enjoyed watching the kingfisher birds). The steps to the lake provided our daily exercise and fishing off the dock produced plenty of catfish and lots of memories. The house essentially has its own private cove and we used the provided rafts to float/swim each day. South Holsten Lake is pristine and there are plenty of pontoon rentals nearby (we rented from Painter's Creek) at an affordable price. During our stay, we toured nearby Bristol Caverns, Bristol Motor Speedway and visited the South Holsten Dam (within 15 minutes). The RT 421 drive (once across the bridge) is by far the craziest road we have ever driven and is worth driving. All are recommended. We also traveled south about 1 ½ hours to Grandfather Mountain and walked their suspended bridge (100 foot drop at an elevation of 1 mile) and then visited the quaint town of Blowing Rock, NC. The owners were very flexible and available for questions during our stay. We truly enjoyed our vacation and we felt the house was a great value.
the house was everything you could want; plenty of dishes, spices, extra's such as salad dressing, condiments, coffee, etc. beautiful view and very relaxing. lake was wonderful and house accessible from town.plenty of extra room to spread out. the deck is a delightful place to spend a few hours morning and night. you will get plenty of excercise going up and down the steps though...so don't bring to many heavy suitcases... pack light and use the washer/dryer. had a great time and would do it again.
We just returned from our second glorious family reunion at Stonewall Cove Lake Lodge! Ideally located. We had a lovely holiday. Thank you!
