My family enjoyed our stay.
This is a great house in a wonderfully secluded area. There is lots of room to roam and/or gather outside with a great fire pit and patio area. There are three large 'living room' areas in the house which is great if you want to spread out. The kitchen is huge with plenty of cooking and gathering space. Everything one would need for meal preparation is there! The only downside to the house that I may have missed in the listing info is that two of the bedrooms are actually upstairs. They are only accessible by using a spiral staircase and one of them is an outdoor spiral staircase. The bedroom with outdoor access has only a half bath, no shower. The other upstairs bedroom can be accessed inside which is better, but the 'shower' in that bathroom was not functioning. It was actually a jacuzzi tub in the slope of the upstairs that had been modified with a hand-held shower head and a shower curtain that hung mostly inside the tub due to the low ceiling. So both upstairs couples had to go downstairs each day to shower. We had air conditioning issues the last two nights, but as it was Sunday morning when we discovered the problem it is understandable that no one was available to do repair work. Luckily we had great cool nighttime weather and nice breezes. All in all we would stay there again in a heartbeat....just maybe not use the outdoor access room as a bedroom.
We had a great time there. House is very comfortable, and being that it is in a designated dark skies area, the evening star gazing was exceptional. There is an abundance of wildlife to see and hear. The kitchen was large and had all the amenities needed for meal preparation. There were no disappointments. Excellent stay.
We can't say enough about our joyful, peaceful experience. This Home-Away-From-Home, was a gift. We were able to experience Big Bend with a 1.25 hour drive several days -- Beautiful scenery going into the park and then enjoying the park for the day. And coming home to the ranch was the perfect way to end the day. We also were able to visit Ft. Davis and Marfa with the same experience. This beautiful ranch allowed us to see everything we wanted to see except MacDonald's Observatory and that was not because of location -- rather COVID restrictions. I highly recommend this place for family, for peace and relaxation -- and for a time to stop in time and Just BE. Thank you Rennie !!!! We hope to meet you someday! We had a wonderful time!! Such a fun property and was perfect for our extended family of 9.
This house has so much character and was such a fun place to stay! My kids loved exploring all the rooms and the outside property. When we woke up to 4+ of snow, we were in heaven! The outside area was like a winter wonderland and we chose to stay and play rather than go to Big Ben that morning. The house was clean, comfortable and very spacious. I'm somewhat picky normally, but I loved this house! We hope to visit again in the future! Thanks for having us!
This house was perfect for three couples to get away and enjoy the Big Bend area. The property was delightful. We particularly enjoyed sitting on the patio each evening and watching deer with Cathedral Mountain in the distance. The kitchen was amazing and well equipped and there was plenty of room for everyone to do their own thing. Defnitely will stay there again!
Great place to stargaze! We really enjoyed our stay at the Ranch House over Labor Day Weekend.
great house, ton's of room, clean and stocked well. we had a great time, plenty of beds, well stocked kitchen and ton's of room for a large get together!!
We had such a fun time at this property! With 4 adults, and 4 boys, we walked the property, shot tin cans, fished, played pool, cooked together, and had a fire in the fire pit under the stars. One of the water heaters went out while we were there, and the owners quickly responded and had it replaced the next day. We highly recommend this interesting and unique property!
The house is large enough to accommodate 15 of us. Very nice kitchen, lot of space for adults to sit and chat while the kids were playing, watching etc. We truly enjoyed our stay!
We had an amazing time with two other families exploring the Big Bend area. The stay at the ranch was amazing. Afternoon games of wiffleball out in the pasture, exploring the old barns and the pond, and enjoying beautiful sunsets. Rennie was amazing, and very responsive. Will book again on our next trip out to West Texas.
This property worked well for our stay. It was definitely isolated, but not hard to get to a grocery store or restaurant. We spent a day in Fort Davis and enjoyed the Star Party at McDonald Observatory. We also enjoyed exploring the property. The only downside is that my parents, in their 70s, had to use the room with the small bed off the kitchen. Otherwise they would have to share a bathroom with our kids or use the tight spiral stairs to get to the other rooms. There is a lot of space, but only one main floor master/king and it shares a bathroom with the two twin beds. Still, we would stay again. Very well stocked.
We just returned from a great 5 days at this fantastic ranch located about 10 miles south of Alpine. We chose the ranch mainly for its location away from lights, and it certainly didn't disappoint in that regard: It has a wonderful 2nd story deck that was perfect for star gazing and a bit of hiking. I expected the ranch to be a bit rustic, and was pleasantly surprised at the owners have combined some of that charm with a thoroughly modern decor. One living room is decorated with Asian art and carvings; the furnishings throughout were comfortable and clean; and the kitchen was stocked for a chef. No, make that three chefs: There is absolutely nothing missing. WiFi worked flawlessly, and even allowed for WiFi calling if your cell phone has that capability. Plenty of TVs, though we didn't use them, and a pool table which did get a bit of use. All in all a wonderful experience, great location, and very good value. Dave Dixon
This place was awesome and for the most part accommodated our entire family. I may have missed it in the listing but one bedroom is only accessible from outside and you have to go up a spiral staircase to get to it. Since we were going to put my brother and sister in law in there with their kids (6 & 8 yrs old), we didn’t think it’d be safe for them if they needed to get up in the middle of the night. So they ended up sleeping on couches. That was the only drawback on the property. The rest of the house was awesome. The rooms are unique and eclectic. It’s like there’s a new surprise around every corner
Our recent stay was exactly what we expected and what was listed. The kitchen was well stocked and every utensil was available for our food prep needs. Drive is long but did not bother(we live out in the country)us or the fact that there no cell service.(there is a landlines) WiFi and dish worked well. The only negative was that the evaporative cooler was on the blink. Rennie sent someone immediately to repair it and I had his number to call him directly. He came back three times! It was tended to under the circumstances the best that it could and will be taken care of in the future(it was Labor Day weekend). Would I stay there again? YES! We were twelve people and an infant and everyone had a real bed that was comfortable and clean. Check it out!
Perfect location for our group of four photographers. The house is great, the kitchen is awesome. Nicely furnished, comfortable rooms. Covered parking for all four of our vehicles. Secluded but easy to get to and from Alpine. Perfect for what we needed.
Loved the house. Great views!
We enjoyed your home and the property on which it sits! We had some fishermen/women in the group who really enjoyed dropping a line into the pond. The water is so clear. We are wondering if the pond is spring-fed. We made trips to the McDonald Observatory and to Marfa --- sadly. we saw no lights, and of course, into Alpine. We had a great long Easter weekend sharing meals, stories, and good family time together in your spacious home. We had everything we needed as it was very well-stocked. Thank you!
We love this place - it is truly west Texas - big skies, great scenery, clean air and peaceful. There are plenty of places to gather both inside and out - the kids loved exploring during the day and the night sky is amazing. The ranch is a wonderful place to just breathe and recover from the noise and business of our ever-growing digital lives. The kitchen is well stocked with gadgets and cleaning supplies are readily available. The property owner was not only readily available to answer questions, she was also extremely gracious and understanding when a medical emergency caused us to have to reschedule our stay at the last minute...have I mentioned the beds were comfortable and linens plentiful? We had planned to travel to Big Bend National Park, but the peacefulness and beauty of the ranch led us to rethink our plans so that we decided to stay put just where we were although we did hike around Fort Davis a couple of 1/2 days. We hope to return again next year and perhaps do a day trip to BBNP - however, we may also decide to stay put and just breathe where we are:) Have I mentioned we love this place......
The house was great with unique living areas. Kitchen was had everything we needed. Property is about 2 miles from paved road and no neighbors around and you have total privacy. We wish we had one more day there. It's about hour an half drive to Big Bend National Park.
The property is interesting and comfortable for a big group. Except for the small attic room the rest of the rooms were large and comfortable. Big kitchen that perfectly fit our group of 10. The owners were responsive and helpful during our stay. Would definitely stay there again.
All of us wished we had more time to spend there.
We had 18 people staying in this home and we used every inch of the house. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars was because we had a difficult time regulating the temp at night. Otherwise, everything else was perfect for our family! The big kids had a great time playing pool and exploring outside. And the little kids were able to nap and enjoy playing in the house as well. I would definitely come back to this house.
Enjoyed our stay here. Directions confusing but finally found it. Nice kitchen. Plenty of room for the 7 of us.
This was an annual family vacation trip including 4 generations. Every member of the family enjoyed the home. It has easy access and allows for early risers and late nighters to live in harmony due to the homes layout. Our stay was for 8 days. The property is secluded and quiet. We never saw a neighbor. The skies and scenery are fabulous. The owner is easy to work with and quick to help. We made easy day trips to Big Bend, Marfa, Fort Davis and of course Alpine. This is one of my favorite properties in 8 years of VRBOing. It has a comfortable country living feel inside and out.
Wonderful! Annual girls trip to Alpine...second time to stay and the house is spacious, clean, great location and etc! We will return! Very conscientious owner. Had every we needed and more!
This is a neat house - big, and just a little bit funky to make you smile. Room for everyone and everything you could ask for. Great for cooking dinners together. Good home base for kayaking in Big Bend, hiking, and visiting Alpine.
My family decided to rent a house for our recent trip to Alpine and luckily I found this property. The house is huge and it easily accommodated everyone in my group. Sitting on the deck at night stargazing is truly amazing and watching the wildlife was great. You know it's a great place when your week's stay is up and you want to extend it a few days. We will be coming back.
The ranch is stunning. If you want peace and quiet with big Texas views, this is the place. The house itself had plenty of room for our group of 8 to spread out. We especially enjoyed the multiple living areas and great back patio. A portion of the house has trouble staying up with the summer heat. Other than that, the stay was wonderful.
We had a wonderful time. It was so nice to be home instead of a hotel. We had plenty of room yet were able to get away from the group if needed. You had everything we needed. I am searching for a new event so I can come back again.
We stayed at the ranch with our children and grandchildren, and my older sister. Traveling in two cars from Midland, we didn't arrive at the same time, and the directions were ambiguous, so getting everyone to the house was a bit of a trial. The house was on a fairly remote part of the ranch, and the sense of privacy and isolation was wonderful. It wasn't so far from town to be a problem, but far enough to have wonderful views of the night skies from the second floor deck without interference from ambient light. The house, like most, had some quirks, but overall was well-suited for our purposes. The master suite had a living area on the first level, spiral staircase to the bedroom and bathroom, also a door to the upstairs deck. The second living area served two bedrooms, one with a king and the other with two twins, which served my son's family well (two granddaughters). The bedroom off the kitchen served my daughter and grandson. Turns out the fourth bedroom is accessible only from the outside second floor deck, up a spiral staircase either through the master bedroom or outside, which would have been great for a gang of girls or boys, but not so much for my older sister, who ended up using a comfortable couch, but had less than perfect privacy. But you make do, and we enjoyed the company, excursions to Marfa, Big Bend, Fort Davis, Alpine. The ranch is interesting. We saw mule deer, lots of birds, horses, cattle...and I was surprised one morning to see a mountain lion ambling across the road thirty yards in front of the car. Not far from the house, there is what clearly was the summer recreational area, with a pond, various seating areas, some small buildings, a rough pergola....sadly in disrepair, but it was easy to imagine the summer evenings of kids swimming in the pond, playing horseshoes in the horseshoe pit, meals being grilled, perhaps a few beers consumed....while everyone tried to shed the heat of the day, and wait for the cool of the night....and it does get cool.
Rented this house with a big group of guys for a hiking/grilling weekend. First off, we all felt at home almost immediately upon entering the house. It has a welcoming vibe that made me think as though I were visiting my grandparents. Second, the land the house is on is spectacular and great for easy going sunset/early morning strolls for birding. Third, the kitchen is MASSIVE and fully stocked. Last, and certainly not least, the beds are comfortable and bedrooms are cozy. Cannot think of a single negative thing to say about this home/the owners. What a wonderful experience!
Our family of 14 stayed from Dec. 31 2016 until Jan 5 th 2017. We had plenty of room and it was very spacious for us all. There were 8 adults and 6 children. We enjoyed seeing the horses and it was our grandkids joy when they were able to pet them. We also had a nightly skunk you had to watch if you opened the door. We saw a lot of birds and a gopher would pop up now and then. It was a great place to stay and then we would do our daily visits to Big Bend, and surrounding areas. We did have coffee grounds left in one of the pots when we got there, the trash bend was so full we had to keep garbage inside the house until they emptied it. Review said paper products provided, well with 14 we still had to buy our own. If you are looking for a place to stay and then visit other areas, this would be nice. Great back door views!!
Loved the setting, the beautiful house and our entire stay. The star viewing was wonderful. Property was exceptionally clean, stocked and well-maintained. Would definitely recommend and hope to return soon.
Love this place 10 women had a great time playing games enjoying the great weather and Alpine
Thank you so much for a wonderful experience! The home was stocked moreso than any other home we've rented before. (5 homes per year on average). Very clean and very cozy despite the abundance of square footage. Thank you for such an awesome time!
We rented this house for the 4th of July weekend. It was not what we hoped for. As soon as we turned on the air conditioner, wasps were coming out of the vents. The kitchen was not clean, with trash left on the counter. We also found 2- scorpions in a bathroom, and a mouse. The yard was not cut either. The owners were gracious enough to refund us for one night. We won't be staying at this house again.
Great location, great house, lots of room. This home was extremely clean. I took my own pots and pans to do a whole lot of cooking, only to find out that EVERYTHING is already provided. Thank you for a fantastic weekend. We will return.
My family had an absolutely awesome time at the ranch house. The scenery was beautiful. The kitchen was especially well stocked with everything we needed to bake cookies with the kids as well as do stir fries. Lots of spices, lots of pots and pans and lots of kitchen gadgets and tools. With four tweens, the large washer and dryer were utilized lots with no problems at all and plenty of detergent and fabric softner was available. The bathrooms were clean and well stocked with towels and toiletry items...perfect! We did not play pool - but a lovely pool table with lots of pool table items was there for guests to use. The home has a wonderful patio to sit on outside the back door...a hummingbird was nesting in a magnolia tree and our kids loved to just sit and watch this bird, and many others as they would come and go among the trees and fields. We used the patio for home school lessons more than once and I was finally able to keep my promise to watch the three original Star Wars movies as well as the new one, with the children. There was a lovely large sitting area provided for us to enjoy the DVDs the children had brought with them. This place is special - if you like nature and star gazing, you could not have a better place to appreciate these things. We were near Alpine, should we need to go to store or pharmacy. We were also able to do day trips to McDonald observatory, Fort Davis, the CDRI, the Museum of the Big Bend at Sul Ross University, the used book store at the public library (this was an especially well-liked stop for us - as everyone in our group loves to read), as well as Big Bend National Park. The owner was especially helpful and readily available if we needed to ask questions. I could write more, but It would all be good...my family looks forward to coming back to this place again. Also - we were able to pull our conversion van right up to the door to unload (loved this!). As I said I could write more - but it would all be good. This is a wonderful place.
Awesome feel like home. Everything you need feel like in your own house. Spacious. Recommended to everyone.
A group of 8 traveled from all over the country to this property for New Years and had a great time. We all enjoy cooking and the kitchen was very well stocked with plenty of room. The large kitchen table was perfect for eating and playing board games. There also was lots of space for lounging together or having quiet/reading time in another room. Although we seemed to bring cold and wet weather, we spent quite some time outside walking around and sitting around a bonfire and saw lots of birds and a few deer. The owl in the tree just next to the house was a crowd pleaser as were the stars when it wasn't cloudy/foggy. We made it to Big Bend in about an hour, which was quicker than expected and perfect for a day hike. The owners were helpful and quick to reply to messages.
This is a lovely, big home with plenty of room for our 9-person group to spread out. The night sky views are fabulous, yet it's close enough to Alpine to allow runs into town for groceries or dinner. We enjoyed cooking in the nice, big kitchen, playing games in front of the gas fireplace, playing pool, and walking on the property. Nice rental.
Lovely home with plenty of lounging options and bedrooms for the four couples that stayed here. Very well equipped kitchen. The location and sky viewing were the best! We went to Big Bend from here for the day and got to drive all the way through the park in a big circle loop. We are longtime vrbo users and can highly recommend.
Spacious spacious with all the comforts of home. The Ranch House is located out of town--no train noise, no traffic no neighbors. The spacious house provides privacy for all who stay. Kitchen is equipped with everything you need. A perfect getaway from the city. Views alone are worth the stay. The owners were very helpful, they provided a partial refund when the stay had to be shortened. So glad we found their listing.
This large country home was a comfortable place for our family of 9 to rest & unwind over New Year's week. It's many living spaces allowed us to spread out for games, movies, conversations, reading, & rest between trips to Big Bend parks & nearby Fort Davis. The fully stocked kitchen offered all we needed for preparing family meals. The home owners were warm, helpful & easily accessible to answer all our questions. Much thanks to them for their hospitality! The only real negative we experienced was the hassle of having to haul away all our own trash at the end of the week (2 car loads!), a problem they are planning to resolve. Beside that, we would gladly return.
