WHY STAY IN THIS NEIGHBORHOOD? Safety, No Crime! Arabi is in St. Bernard Parish (County). Arabi has a superior law enforcement that does not tolerate crime. When you stay in Arabi, you can go enjoy all of the fun things that New Orleans has to offer, but you return to sleep in Arabi without any worries of someone breaking into your house or car. Also, you can safely walk the streets at night in this neighborhood. Don't take a chance. Have a crime free vacation by staying at this house!
Lovely 4 bedroom, 3 bath home located a couple blocks from New Orleans line in historic old Arabi. The home is on a large corner lot which offers plenty of free parking. Besides being 4 miles from the French Quarter, it's also just as close to a boat launch which offers the best fishing in the country. So stay a few extra days and bring your boat or hire a fishing guide. This is the safest area in the city! Unlike New Orleans, we have plenty of police in Arabi and they do not tolerate any riff-raft coming here to commit crimes. Arabi is in St.Bernard Parish(county). My wife and I love New Orleans. We have our favorite restaurants and places to go in New Orleans, but we love coming to our house in St. Bernard Parish to safely sleep at night with peace of mind.
Also note that for being 3 miles, (10 minutes drive) from the French Quarter, the rates are 1/3 of what the same size house would be near the Quarter.
The house was freezing cold when we first got there. After awhile it started to warm up but the upstairs room was HELL so hot my nose started bleeding through the night. Turned the A/C on just for it NOT to work so had to sleep in the living room. Besides that the bathroom downstairs on the lower floor the tub and toilet was stopped up informed the owner and NO RESPONSE! WiFi was on the refrigerator NEVER worked come to find out that wasn’t the WiFi name or password had to get the information from the modem. I will NEVER STAY HERE AGAIN!
This was our second time staying at this property and everything was great. He upgraded a lot of things from our last stay and I loved it. Also, Larry went above and beyond for me. I needed breaks done on my car. I asked did he know anybody and he referred me to 3 people. My family and I will always stay at this property when we come to town.
The house is big and in a really good location. The beds were clean but the rest needed better cleaning. It has a cool porch were we could've hangout when we got back from downtown, but it was super dusty. The pricing of the rental had a high amount for cleaning fee, so it was a surprise to find partsof the house like this. But the biggest deal since we traveled with children was, no WIFI and it was advertised. The owners son came to check it out, said he will return with a solution, we're still waiting for him. We made the best of it and had a good time, but will not stay here again.
This property did not deliver! The pictures must be severely old or extremely filtered...The house smelled when we walked in like it had been locked up for months. There were cob webs and spider webs everywhere. The house needs a lot up grading and simple home repairs. Cracks on the walls and around the windows, fresh paint, caulking around the tubs...The towels were old and rough....we were scared to use them so we got new ones. The house was extremely dusty and smelled. I complained to the property owner about the condition of the house and the refrigerator being broken I never got a response. The stove was very old and rusting. The microwave had completely lost its face plate that keeps the door in place. The yard was not usable because of the mosquitoes due to the pudding of water in the yard, and the stray cats. Plus the porch was dusty and the screen netting was torn and screen door was missing. The side door had a gap where the weather stripping needs to be replaced. We left early due to an animal coming through the side door that was in the house. I did inform the property owner again with no response. Arabi is a great town but don't waste your time or money on this house!
Host was responsive, house was super clean, and location was close to all the sights
The property is clean and safe and worked well for the five of us. It happened to be cold during our stay and it was hard to heat the house up. All the heat went to the upstairs master bedroom while the rest of the house was still quite cold. But we enjoyed it overall and the property had everything g we needed. Great location, too!
Our family was in town for the Sugar Bowl and wanted an economical option to a hotel. Our expectations were not so lofty. The house easily accommodated the 10 adults (16-75 yo). Access to NO was easy and the bus was only a short 4 block walk through what we perceived as a quiet safe neighborhood. There were some flaws to the place but none that dampened our family time together. You can tell the owner is trying to improve the space on a budget. A couple of items to note: - there are some aesthetic damage and maintenance items - there is a lack of kitchen utensils if preparing a large meal - as mentioned in other reviews the freezer struggles to get really cold - the table only seats 8 people, the other had to sit at the counter - we had hoped to watch some football bowl games however the cable does not provide ESPN - it appeared the drier latch was not operational as the cleaning person brought us towels a couple days later and when we tried to use the drier the door would not latch - not a big deal for us We really liked our time together as a family and the ability to get out of the city yet be close enough to enjoy. Thank you,
Neighborhood was excellent and convenient to downtown. I would of just preferred a cleanier house maybe some fresh paint in the upstairs bedroom
Property was as described. Could use some attention cosmetically but you can see efforts have been made to update property. It was unfortunate we could not open the curtains facing the neighbors yard because it was such an eye sore. The neighbor constantly yelled at her dogs swearing at them and threatening to break their necks. On one o’clock I witnessed her throw the dog away from her because it was crying in distress because it was all tangled up. She kept referring to someone the house as a crack head. When we were in the front yard she was encouraging one of the dogs to leave the yard and not come back. She asked us if we wanted it because she was done with him. Very sad. I wish I could have taken him home. On the plus side the house was as described and fit our needs. Some rooms were smaller than we thought and we couldn’t put our suitcases in the room because there wasn’t any room. Unfortunately not all rooms had closets. The house was clean and when we had an issue with a faucet someone came over immediately to fix it. He was very nice. The landlord was responsive to our texts and very pleasant on the phone. I would rent a different property from him if we need to in the future. It is unfortunate about the neighbor but that’s not his fault. Besides the neighbor everything was fine.
Larry made our stay easy and memorable. The house was beautiful and bigger than. The pictures make it look. It was so easy to get to the quarter and near some pretty awesome restaurants. Upon arrival, the house was being painted which me happy to see the owner taking pride in his property. Had no issues with our stay and hope to work with Larry again.
Mold in the bedroom, couldn't use kitchen sink had a pan under it because it leaked, dishwasher when ran water all over the floor, refrigerator was not working properly all of our food in the freezer thawed, the face of the microwave would fall off when you used it, no internet our son had to tell the manager what we needed for it to work, called home away no help set on hold for 45 minutes they hung up on us instead of trying to help I feel we deserve a refund of part of our money after spending a lot of our vacation time on the phone trying to resolve problems some things did get fixed but really put a bad impression on using VRBO and effected our family vacation in a negative way
Great spot with lots of room. Thanks
Large house where we could spread out. Truly 4 bedroom 3 bath. Solid build which helped in not having everyone bothered if they wanted to go to bed earlier than others. Loved the screened in porch and utilized it a lot. Basics to start with trash bags, paper towels, plates, cups, (only 3 coffee mugs if you need those), and laundry supplies. Larry was good to work with throughout our stay. Thank you!
I enjoyed my stay here it was close to where we wanted to go only like 15 minutes maybe 10 depending on how you drive to get to French Quarters. The refrigerator did not get cold but it was not a big deal to me because it did what we needed it to do. My friends said it was a smell when we walked in. we got some candles and took care of that. The neighbor hood is very quiet I really liked that.I would stay again.
Beds and bedrooms were fine. No issues. Clean place with easy check out. A little noisy due to near factory but not horrible. There were a few cosmetic opportunities. Overall a very good experience and a place I would recommend. Any of the cons were minimal. Recommend groceries from Winn Dixie.
Nice big, spacious house. I’m just not a big person and two huge bugs were found laying on their back trying to get up. One was in upstairs bathroom and the other in downstairs in the hallway. The property was very clean otherwise. Loved the location! Would stay here again. I chopped up the 2 bugs to being New Orleans welcoming guests lol
Loved the house, loved it all!! It was a great birthday celebration with all my friends and family. Dollar stores and a little grocery mart near by. LOVED our stay!
Perfect stay for our party of 10.
Two of the bedrooms had mold on the ceiling, doors where jamming, it smelled muggie, covers and blankets didn’t seem clean and fresh and there weren’t enough blankets for 10 people in our group. The plus side of the property was it’s size, there was plenty of room for our group and privacy.
Went to New Orleans for a girls trip with 8 others and couldn't have had a better time! Location is outside of the french quarter but is a fairly quick drive! Ubers and Lyfts averaged around $11, depending on where in the quarter. The home is old but charming and very spacious, with 3 bathrooms (for 9 girls... much needed) and was very easy to access with a keypad on the door. Larry was extremely helpful and was very responsive! The community surrounding the home was so kind and welcoming too!
Cannot beat the price for a house that easily holds 10. We had 8 people in our party and hosted a 60th birthday weekend at the house. The kitchen was really nice and the screened in porch was the highlight of our stay. The AC went out on the last day but luckily it wasn't too hot. Overall the house could use some better pillows and linens and there were only 3 coffee cups so bring your own if you want to drink coffee as a group. The house was very clean and the smart TV was nice in the living room and the lack of TV's in the bedrooms kept everyone together on the porch so I didn't mind not having more TV's. Uber and Lyft rides are only about $12-$15 from the French Quarter and Shipt (grocery delivery app) will deliver groceries so it's a great location in my mind.
Although the house was beautiful with all amenities provided, some of us had to suffer with rashes due to bed bugs that made our stay relatively unpleasant. Atleast 3 people in our group have their back, neck and face covered with bed bug bites, which is uncomfortable and embarrasing. Please stay away if you dont like bugs
We stayed from Sunday to Saturday. On Tuesday morning, one of our kids noticed the floor in the down stairs hallway was wet. I didn't think too much about it, thinking one of our kids may have had the shower curtain outside of the tub. We came back from day out and my kids then noticed water coming up through the floor. I texted the owner and he had his son come over and found the A/C drain pipe was clogged. That didn't bother me too much since I am a landlord as well. My daughter also complained of some bites that she got and we thought it may have been mosquito bites. On Friday morning we found bed bugs in her bed. We did not see them until Friday. We notified the owner again but he did not say anything back to me or do anything on this issue. She was in the bedroom at the end of the hallway. So I want to warn people to check the beds before allowing anyone sleep in this room.
When we first pulled up, the outside of the house had me hesitant. Once we went in, my mind was at ease. Beautiful home. Plenty of space for the 7 of us. It was a great vacation. We'll absolutely use this home again.
Absolutely beautiful house. There were 8 of us and we all fit comfortably. It's a little far from the french quarter but taking an uber was no problem. Plenty of room for everyone to have fun and great amenities.
Would give 5 stars but there definitely should be TVs in the bedrooms. There’s only one tv in the living room . Besides that great stay!!
Words can’t describe just how happy I was with our stay . We were a group of 9 who fit comfortably . The home was beautiful .Mr. Landry was super accommodating and we were about 10-15 min from bourbon street . It was truly a pleasure . I would definitely stay again .
Great place, fantastic location, we will be back!
Overall - 4/5. Better than expected, while it didn't really blow me away, this place is a great value for what you pay for! I had a group of 10 people and when we walked into the property for the first time, we realized that the house was much larger than the pictures lead us to believe; a pleasant surprise. There was plenty of room for us to sleep comfortably, share bathrooms, eat together for dinner, or just lounge in the living room watching the Olympics! I noticed older reviews noted a lack of utensils/towels or linens, but my group had no such problem. The ONLY thing we might've been short of, if anything, was that we couldn't find extra sheets for the linen couch, so we just used a spare comforter (hardly an inconvenience). The area is a little out of the way of downtown, which is nice because the area was quiet, but close enough to French Quarter to be convenient. Via Uber it takes about 15-20 minutes, but obviously there's traffic the closer to downtown you get, so take that into consideration. Larry was really accommodating and so gracious, thank you for letting us stay in your home for the weekend. Would recommend for any large group visiting.
The house was very accurately described by Larry. We had all of the accommodations that we needed. It was located outside of the French Quarter but obtaining an Uber was no problem whether it be early in the morning or late at night. The neighborhood was extremely quite with local eateries near by. We actually enjoyed Gerald's on the night of our arrival at midnight. Larry was very accessible anytime that I needed him. I would recommend this house to anyone wanting to visit NOLA.
Recommend anyone staying here to bring their own supplies. Not much in the way of usable pots and pans or trash bags.
The house served its purpose. Great location and neighborhood. Enough room to sleep 10 comfortably. Everything worked well inside of the house - no issues! Would rent again if I was ever in the area.
We stayed here with my family for Thanksgiving. The house was in a great and safe location. It was larger than we needed. The owners were great with communication and very accommodating. If you are considering staying here, please do yourself a favor and book this house before someone gets it before you. Thank you.
I came to New Orleans with my friends for my bachelorette party. This house was plenty big for the 9 of us who went! We did have some uber drivers tell us we weren’t in a great area but we had no problems whatsoever over the course of our 5 day stay. There was a walmart fairly close by so we were able to get some snacks, drinks, sandwich items, etc to have for when we weren’t eating out. The only con I can really think of is the distance to the French Quarter. We didn’t think it would be as big of a deal but having to to take uber/lyft everytime we wanted to go did add up, especially since we had to take 2 cars due to the size of the group. Overall, great stay and wonderful house!
Perfect for for our family, and still had plenty of room, WAY better than hotel rooms and a lot cheaper as well!!! I thought we were farther away from from everything, but we were very close. Would totally stay there again!! Larry was super easy to correspond with when I had a question. Thanks again for the nice place to stay while we were there for our cousin's wedding.
Everything was great. Really liked the screen porch and the layout of the house
Pro's: House was roomy and comfy. Loved the screened porch and code for front door instead of having to keep up with keys. Great location. Quiet neighborhood. Will recommend for future guests. Sleeps 10 comfortably. Cons: Could have more towels and washcloths because there wasn't enough for us 10 to have a shower in the same day without having to wash them. There was no dish washer liquid or dish cloths to be able to wash dishes. There aren't enough cups for us all. Back downstairs bedroom had a terrible urine smell in the closet.
We were a party of eight returning from a cruise and needed a nice safe location to stay for two nights. I found this house on VRBO and it was just what we were looking for. It is located in a very safe neighborhood. The neighbors are very friendly. Parking is plentiful. We had two vehciles and there would have been room for more. This location is very close the French Quarter. The Arabi Food Market is just around the corner. They have excellent sandwiches. There is a Wal Mart approximately one and a half miles away, also a donut shop and Waffle house within half a mile. The house is only a short distance from where the Battle of New Orleans was fought. Mr. Landry was very reponsive and helpful. He offered suggestions for dining at local restaurants which worked out really well. We had gotten off the cruise ship by 10:00 AM. I called Mr. Landry and asked him if we could drop off one of our vehicles at the property until check in time at 3:00 P.M. He told me that he might be able to get us in the property sooner and said he would call back. He was good to his word and called me back within a few minutes and said we could check in. We were able to unload our considerable luggage, drop off one vehicle, and head down to the French Quarter for the rest of the day. We have been going to New Orleans since 1968. Since it is usually only the two of us we rent a condo in the French Quarter. Having a large party of family and friends on this trip made renting this house very economical. We would rent this house again anytime. It doesn't cost anymore than the condo we previously rented and the neighborhood location is just a lot more quiet and enjoyable. We highly recommend this property.
This house was wonderful! It may need a little tlc but it was way more than we expected. The reviews were a little harsh I'm glad we did not let them sway our choice. House had so much space and cozy, we felt safe and at home. We like to stay again but we noticed a for sale sign glad we got the chance to see it.
Our stay included 4 couples. The layout listed is accurate. The inside of the home is beautiful. We found the place to be everything that we needed in space and privacy. The neighborhood is very quiet. Working with the owner was no-stress communication. Every question we had he answered. Although I never met him personally, he was always accessible by phone. **There were some concerns: The windows were secured shut so the bedrooms could not get fresh air. Ventilation is needed We found the cookware to be put in the cabinets dirty. We purchased our own. There were not enough towels for a party of 8. We purchased our own There were not enough dishes for a party of 8. We purchased our own glassware We discovered dust and grime on ledges, walls & ceilings. Also, some cobwebs, etc...We just went over the bathrooms and dishes for our own peace and made it our home for the (5) days that we stayed. There was cleaning supplies available, including washing detergent for clothes. However, they were generic, which is ok for some. **Suggestions: Just do a deep cleaning and update the dishes, etc. ----I would stay there again and I would work with the owner again. NOTE: This property is at least 15-20 minutes from downtown New Orleans (French Quarters, Bourbon Street, Convention Ctr, Harrahs). May be good for some and bad for others. We didn't mind. There is not much around it except a Dollar General, corner store, Waffle House, Rally's, etc. A Walmart is 10 minutes away. I'm sure there may have been a couple of spots that we missed.
It was a nice spacious house but needs a little TLC & it could have been cleaner as there were a lot of cob webs. A little too far from the city(NOLA). On a side there were a few burned out light bulbs & we only had one garbage bag & completely ran out of TP.
House was in a decent area. It had a nice layout, with plenty of room. But the House badly needed a thorough cleaning. Bathrooms and bedrooms reasonably clean. Dining area had cobwebs and dirty walls. Chairs were stained as was the rug. Kitchen updated but window shade was filthy. Living room had a leak in the ceiling, with water running down the wall when it rained. Cold air return grate was really dirty. Light bulbs out all over the house. Emailed the owner twice, once for a broken coffee pot, which he replaced that night. Emailed the second time about the leak, said he would take care of it. Not sure if he did or not. The screened in porch badly needed painting and screens repaired.
The property was perfect for our group. Enough space, bathrooms, bedrooms, etc. We loved our stay, and Larry is so quick to respond with any questions or things you may need. I will say it's a little farther from the French Quarter than we thought (about 15mins) but we didn't have any problems getting a lyft, Uber, or cab. Just plan for 15 mins for your ride to get there, and to take you there. Still worth it for the price. If Lyft or Uber is too busy Untied Cab was great, and cheap. Highly recommend staying here.
We stayed at this home for a business trip. We were a little disappointed in the lack of cleanliness in the home. Dirty dishes, linens, light bulbs out and none to replace, dirty air filter, and cable service had been disconnected! We tried to contact Larry multiple times and have yet to get a response. But you get what you pay for it was decent.
Overall the house was a great to stay in. No real issue. I do not have any complaints.
This was a great trip! The owner's house was awesome; very clean, spacious, fully equipped with private parking and in a wonderful neighborhood! Close enough to everything ! NEED I SAY MORE. My family enjoyed the trip.
We were very pleased with this property. There were 5 adults and 5 children and there was plenty of space for all of us. The house has charm. It's only a short drive to the Quarter and downtown. We felt very safe. Larry was great and response time was quick! Definitly recommend. Thank you Larry, we enjoyed our stay!
The house was perfect for myself and my other 7 colleagues. There was plenty of room. The house was clean, and neat. The neighborhood was very pleasant and made us feel safe. It also is just a 15 minute drive to the French Quarter. VERY WORTH IT!!! We met the neighbor and he was very nice and gave us all great places to visit while in New Orleans. We also traveled to the gun range in the town of Arabi (The location of the house), a must visit for gun enthusiast. I would recommend this house to anyone traveling to the area. Thanks again Larry!
Thanks Larry for the place. It was clean and well equipped for our family of 6. Larry was easy and pleasant to deal with from our first correspondence all the way through our stay. We will definitely look you up next time we visit New Orleans.
My group stayed in this house because we were supposed to stay in one of the owner's other houses a different weekend, but due to bad snow storms our flights were cancelled and we couldn't even make it to New Orleans. Ultimately Larry (the owner) did not give us any money back; we received no value from the money we paid upfront (and deposit), which was a huge hardship. The original house was in Marigny, close to downtown and everything we wanted to be near. This house isn’t even in New Orleans proper and despite saying that it is 4 miles away, it is quite hard to GET to downtown New Orleans. The cab drivers don’t like leaving New Orleans to go to Arabi at all which makes things very difficult, also the price of a cab from the airport is increased quite a bit, not the $33 flat rate. The house itself was alright, but you can tell it had not been stayed in (or property cleaned) in a while. The master bedroom had a few dead bugs (and some alive) on the comforter and in the bathroom. The safety of the house was a big issue for us as well. We were six women staying in the house and there is no deadbolt on the front door and no blinds covering two sliding glass doors that lead right into the street. The sliding glass doors are right off of the living room so anyone outside could see right into the main area where we were. We arrived at night and there are NO street lights on the street and the street was blocked off about a block from the house, which would have been helpful to know. These are just things that we should have been told going into it, but we also didn’t plan to rent this house to begin with. Also, if you want to be safe, get a hotel or someone with a more generous policy than Larry!
Let me begin at the beginning - owner Larry was a delight to work with, going so far as to recommend local restaurants (Rocky & Carlos) and fishing guides (Reel Time Charters with Capt. Gary Estopinal) to keep our family of 10 happy and well fed. Here you'll find an owner who really cares about your vacation experience. Thank you, Larry! The house itself was an excellent base of operations for us, just a short, easy drive from the French Quarter and all that New Orleans has to offer. Located in the quiet neighborhood of Old Arabi, the accommodations were perfect for our large family; nicely appointed with furnishings, wi-fi and enough bedrooms/baths to allow the privacy a large group needs. For those of you searching for affordable lodging close to the New Orleans excitement, look no further....this is definitely it!
the neighborhood itself is nice and quiet. the neighbors are friendly. very spacious home and close to the french quarter. the central air & heat gives a quick deliver. the house made for a great stay.
My family stayed for the recent (2012) Thanksgiving holiday. The home is beautiful, the neighborhood very quite. We felt as if we were the only ones on the street. We were close to downtown, the Superdome and church for Sunday. Larry was great to work with, I plan to return in the future.
This house was perfect for our group of Military and 911 widows. We ventured to NOLA for a give back getaway. This house was in a great, quite little neighborhood. We all felt very safe at night and the accommodations were just what we needed. Working with Larry was easy and seamless. The house is portrayed perfectly. If you are looking for a house in New Orleans that is close to everything, this is the house for you!
The owner was friendly and honest. Reasonable, close to the French Quarter, clean place, nice and spacious. Great neighborhood feel made my stay even better and I can't say enough great things about the house. Staying here really made the difference!!
MY STAY AT THIS HOUSE THE BEST PART OF THE TRIP!! I LIKED IT WHEN I SEEN IT ONLINE BUT THE MIN I SEEN IT IN PERSON I JUST FELL IN LOVE. VERY CLEAN AND SO COZY! EVEN THE YARD LOOK GREAT. NICE QUIET NEIGHBORHOOD BUT CLOSE ENOUGH 2 THE ACTION.. THE OWNER WAS REALLY NICE AND HIS SON WAS SUPER HOTTTT! LMBO SERIOUSLY IT WAS WORTH EVERY PENNY!!!
