Do not move or rearrange any furniture in the house!
We've been returning to this cabin for many years now and it's always a highlight of the year. You feel completely removed from the world around you on this private property. It's a gem - don't hesitate to book it!
Incredible property to explore and take in. So much to do nearby but no one wanted to leave. We went late October with the leaves turning - very impressive surroundings. The fireplace was the focal point and we kept it burning the entire time. Michael was great; very responsive and accommodating. Hope to return and do it again next fall.
Thank you so much Michael and Josh for one of the most fun and relaxing vacations. We all had a great time and appreciate you allowing us to enjoy your taste of heaven! Tracy
Our extended family of 8 had a terrific time at this beautiful cabin setting. The cabin was well stocked for lots of taking turns cooking (even the kids cooked this year!). The best part of the week was the setting - absolutely private! The only human noises were one we made when we squealed in delight while plunging in the pond or pulling out a largemouth bass! We would definitely consider coming back.
This is our second trip to the property we really had a great time we spent almost the entire five days outdoors enjoying the lake sunshine, big fires out back, riding bikes, and hiking. We will be back next year thank you JOSH and ‘Michael
We had a group of 12 women in our 40's and we LOVED the property. It is absolutely beautiful with so much to enjoy. Our only wish was that we had more time there and less rain during our stay. There are some amazing pieces of furniture and art that are very interesting. Some of the things that I don't recall seeing in the details were: They have every utensil, pot, pan, or serving item you can think of and a great number of spices, oils and cooking basics. There are TWO fridges, so plenty of room for food and drink. There is a hose to rinse your water shoes, paddle boards, etc. There is a TON of fire wood and a wheelbarrow to move it easily to the fire pit. There are over 20 games for a rainy day. We found the beds to be comfortable. We brought our own linens and had no issues. Don't forget hand towels for bathrooms and kitchen. A few things to add based on some prior comments: The loft is awesome, but may not be easy to get to for very young, old, or inebriated people. It's clear that the property may have been built prior to certain codes, but that is why you need to be careful and you sign the waiver. Anyone in decent shape shouldn't have any issues. There isn't AC, but there are TONS of fans... we were there on some very hot days and had no issues. There are some cobwebs, but you are in the WOODS, so it's certainly expected. Overall, we loved this Retro Oasis and would love to come back again in the future.
The property area is amazing. We spent so much time in the pond and the lake. House has many stuff available, such as balls, canoas, boardgames, etc. Perfect place for a family gathering. Property staff are nice and responsive. House is a little bit old and needs some renovation, inside and the deck area.
This property is awesome. I spent a long weekend here with some friends and family and we loved every minute. The property is secluded and is located in a picturesque area. We fished for bass on the lake, hiked some of the many trails that meander through the woods, enjoyed cold beverages on the wrap around deck and sat by the campfire at night. This property is the perfect place to unplug and enjoy nature. The house was very clean and well-stocked. The owners were super accommodating and helpful. All of my questions were promptly answered. I could tell that they care about their property and the enjoyment of their guests. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who enjoys the outdoors and I hope to stay here again someday.
Property is a 5 out of 5. Really awesome. The whole outdoor space is amazing. The house on the other hand is a relic from the 1970’s. The wives were extremely worried about the safety of the kids, the porch and loft are not safe. Looks like there was not a building code when this was made (probably why you have to sign a waiver) The house gets the job done, but it’s not nice. Also THERE ARE NO SHEETS OR TOWELS. This is nowhere in the VRBO page, that important information was in paragraph 4 of the attached rental agreement. I mean, don’t hide that detail. That needs to be up front. For the very large amount of money we paid a night I would expect a towel.
We had a wonderful stay in this home! The house was clean, kitchen very well equipped (!), with plenty of space to gather or spread out as needed. The couches in the photos may be a little dated, but they are huge and comfortable -- and we found that our group of 20+ spent a lot of time sitting on and around them, talking and playing games. Because of the time of year - windy, cold weather -- we didn't explore the beautiful property ... we will save that for our next visit! The only thing I would mention is that the ladder into the loft is a little challenging -- so plan for small children and pregnant women to sleep in the bedrooms downstairs : ) . Thank you for your hospitality Josh and Michael!
Last month our family of 8 adults and 8 children (and a varity of dogs) gathered together for 5 magical days in the beautiful mountains of PA. We could not believe the incredible beauty of this place. It is impossible to see this from the photos on VRBO. In a word, you have to be there and experience it. We had wonderful weather and some in our party took out the canoes on the lake. We walked the trails, sat on the bridge watching the children (and dogs) play in the stream and generally let the outside world drift quietly away. This is a family place owned by brothers Josh and Michael who were always available to tend to any need we might have. They checked in by phone only and did not drop by to disturb our family time. Places like this are difficult if not impossible to find. We are hopeful to visit this special place again in the future. Don & Sylvia
Awesome property. Never been on one as large and secluded. Has everything you need to cook and have fun!
What a great place to stay at. Great for any event
This property provides a fantastic escape from the grind of our work-a-day lives. The house is huge and well maintained and the grounds are simply beautiful. A great time was had by all. Privacy, tranquility, natural beauty.
This property served our party of adults and kids perfectly. The first day we all spent the day in the swimming pond. The kids loved jumping in off the upper wall. We moved to the big lake on day two. It was clean and refreshing. This property is set in a natural environment and is full of wildlife. The house was clean and had all we needed. The basement pool table kept the kids busy at night. We built nice fires in the outside fire pit. The cool evenings made for great sleeping weather. No need for AC. If you are looking to get your kids off of electronics and reconnect with family and friends. Then this is the place to rent. We will be returning next year. We had a blast. Josh and Michael are attentive and responsive landlords. They are true gentleman and we loved this property. Hiking, swimming, bike rides, fires, reconnecting with our kids. This property offered all we could ask for. Oh and we found a nice fishing hole near the beaver dam.
The property and the house looked amazing on VRBO and were even better in person! If this looks like it might be your kind of place, book it! You won’t be sorry.
First, the (minor) cons: the house itself is a bit past its prime. The basement is a little musty, on hot days the lack of air conditioning is felt, and the decor is an homage to the 70's. But all of this is greatly outweighed by the pros. The layout of the house is excellent for family get-togethers (our group had 12 children and 9 adults) with a good upstairs common area and a good game room in the basement. And the property itself was spectacular, with a gorgeous view from the balcony, plenty of well-maintained trails for hiking, and a wonderful lake for fishing. Additionally, there were two large fields for playing games together. Our family had a great time!
Our group had an amazing time on the property for our stay over the 4th. From grilling to fishing and hiking there was plenty for everyone to do. The available, but limited cellphone service kept everyone away from their screens for some much needed time being disconnected. The location is in a very good central spot for anyone coming from Pittsburgh, Philly, DC/Baltimore, and NY.
Amazing loved it best place ever
We stayed at the property for six days with extended family over New Year. Had a great time building fires in the fireplace, did many hikes on the property. The dogs loved it. Visited some ancestral homesteads, and the Flight 93 memorial. The microbrewery and meat packing store in Berlin are great. Grilled some amazing steaks. For a summer stay, the watering hole right in front would be perfect! Would like to come again to experience a different season. Thank you for your attentiveness, Josh!
The title really says it all, it's paradise. The property is as beautiful as it is peaceful, and is the perfect place for a large group to unplug for a few days. We had a great time and will definitely be back.
Our family enjoyed fishing, hiking, kayaking, floating on our giant raft, cooking s'mores and mountain pies, and creating wonderful memories together! Since our whole family joins us, from the young kids to my 92 year old grandma, we have one suggestion: put slip resistant bathtub stickers in each shower (no accidents but it was a little slippery!). Other than that, everything was fabulous!
Fellas! the property was just beautiful, wildlife abound, beautiful sunrises and very accommodating surroundings. will most definitely return! thank you
If you love nature, relaxing in the outdoors, and reconnecting with nature, this is the place. We enjoyed adventurous walks in the forest on 600 acres of walking trails offering you all that nature has to offer, fishing at the lake, hitting the stream, and watching a vast array of animals. We enjoyed the time with nature every day, deer at the apple trees, birds everywhere, and even kayaked with the beaver swimming around the lake. Overall our kids were entertained without the need for connections to snapchat and X-box with everything the property had to offer.
If you're looking to get away from it all, you can't go wrong with this rental.
Words can not really describe the beauty and serenity of this property!! I have planned and been a part of many large events and get togethers over the years, and this one takes the cake. Since our stay I have been getting messages from the group of friends I was with whom are located all over PA, OH, and the East Coast about what an incredible weekend this property provided us with. From volleyball, to whiffle ball, fishing, hiking, and many other activities this property provides the means for, there are endless memories that were made during our stay. Not to mention just soaking in the sounds of nature while star gazing at night. We are already making plans for when we can make another trip. Michael and Josh made sure we had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable, and the properly comes perfectly equipped for large homemade meals in the kitchen and on the grill. We highly recommend this place to anyone looking to unplug a bit and make wonderful memories with family and friends!!!
Can't recommend highly enough. During this weekend, we canoed, swam, fished, hiked, played yard games, sat around the fire, grilled, played pool/ping pong, napped in the hammock, and watched a few storms roll in and roll out. The cabin sleeps over 20 and has everything you need for a weekend escape in the country.
Another wonderful vacation spent in a little slice of paradise! Last year, we had three straight days of rain, this year only one afternoon of rain. We interspersed a highly competitive kickball game in between the rainy periods. Maybe next time we will finally get three straight sunny days... And there will be a next time! This property is amazingly beautiful and there's always more to do - hiking, sports, fishing, canoeing, salamander catching, creek exploring. Make sure the directionally-challenged ones in your group take a paper map with them if they leave the property... we almost lost one of ours who ran into town for something. Thankfully, she finally made it back after some hours of wandering. The owners are always easy to work with, the kitchen well-stocked, and the accommodations pretty comfortable. Despite so many people in the same house, the rooms stay pretty quiet - babies stayed asleep even with big kids running around in a raucous game of hide and seek. Thanks for another great stay!
This was exactly what we were looking for. The property was big and beautiful. Cant wait to come back in the summer and try out that spring fed pool. We had 15 adults and there was more than enough space for everyone to spread out and enjoy. I highly recommend this cabin for anyone looking for a secluded place to unwind. Cheers!
For the past 3 years, our group of 20 have returned to this property every winter - and each time, it provides EXACTLY what we need! There are so many amazing trails and spaces to explore on the property - so one of the highlights each year is letting people explore the grounds. Inside - we always have a fire going the whole weekend and people cozy up in the large main common area. There are plenty of beds so everyone comfortably fits to sleep. And downstairs has a great game room for people that need to get their ping pong battle on :) We'll be returning next year!!
We went up for a few days of R&R and that's exactly what we got. This place is so secluded and peaceful. At night the stars were amazing and during the day there's a great view of fields where we saw deer and turkeys and water where we got to see Canadian geese on a stopover on their way south! The owners provide plenty of firewood and we were able to enjoy their huge fireplace all day long. The home is comfortable and the kitchen is well supplied. Sitting in the rocking chairs enjoying the view we started making plans to come back in the summer to enjoy the pool and the big pond. The owners were very responsive and accommodating. Can't wait to come back in the summer.
This is our 2nd time renting the beautiful Fairhope Cabin in the woods, and it has earned a full 5/5 stars both times! We found this house originally as a central meeting place for our expansive extended family as we no longer fit in any one of our houses, and still LOVE to enjoy the holidays together with our family dogs. Our first visit was in December, and the roaring fireplace, ice covered lake, and cozy living areas made us feel so cozy and together. This time we celebrated thanksgiving together and it was also perfect. We played football in the field, went on numerous hikes around the property, baked a full thanksgiving dinner in the well furnished kitchen, and had the opportunity to unplug and relax (with the opportunity to check emergency emails thanks to the new install of wifi). We highly recommend this place and are so thankful to Josh and Michael for being so accommodating and making such a special place available to the public.
This is a great house with a spectacular yard and very helpful, attentive owners. The house suited our needs perfectly. We had a group of 15 and there was more than enough space, more than enough beds, plenty of restrooms and amenities so that we were very comfortable. The house is a total throwback, but that just added to the charm. The house was very clean and had everything a big group could need. The kitchen had more than enough space and was very well appointed. The large wrap around deck is a great place to hangout and enjoy the spectacular view. The house is great, but the yard is really the highlight of the property. There is just so much space! The yard is perfect for all sorts of activities. Be sure to bring lawn games! The spring-fed pool is really fun and right near the house. The private lake is incredible. We had a lot of fun swimming and canoeing. We had a great time and are considering return trips. I would fully recommend this house for your next getaway.
What a relaxing time! And we had amazing weather for July, you would have thought it was late September. Temps the 50/60's in the morning. The place is so green and beautiful we really enjoyed just sitting on the deck with our coffee. We saw more than a dozen deer, watched the beaver swim and just enjoyed the quiet and tranquility that this remote place offers. At night the stars were amazing! There wasn't any other ambient light and we turned off all the lights in the house and saw there in awe. The kitchen is fully stocked with any cookware we needed and the house was very clean.
We stayed from Wednesday to Sunday with a group of 21 people. The house was spacious and cozy! Everyone had a place to sleep and the kids had ample space to run around. We enjoyed the days lounging by the stream, fishing in the lake, and canoeing in the provided canoe. Josh was an amazing host! One of the families accidentally left a luggage bag behind and he sent it back to them for free. We will definitely be back! Thank you Josh for going above and beyond!
We come every year. It's not in our best interest to share how much can we love it here. Wildlife; flat fields; lakes; swimming hole; games; full kitchen. The owners invested in a new roof and windows which is nice too.
Our family has been doing family reunion vacations since I was a kid, and this is one of the best places we have stayed. I was continuously amazed at how well appointed it was--pretty much everything we needed was somewhere in the cabin. For example, the kitchen had tons of pots, pans, cookie sheets, an electric mixer, a Keurig coffee make (and a regular one), toaster, toaster oven, microwave, two fridges, and a lot more. My dad got stung by a wasp and I found an insect sting towelette in a first aid kit in the kitchen. The outdoor space was nothing short of spectacular. The grounds are immaculately kept and there is so much to do. We went canoeing and fishing every day--my son caught 3 fish. There is a beaver lodge out in the lake and we saw the beavers swimming around at dusk one night. We found three snakes on top of the beaver lodge--very exciting! One night we saw a great blue heron flying overhead and then land in a tree. The creek was full of crayfish and there are tons of birds everywhere. I went hiking every day and I have never felt so safe hiking by myself. Everything is incredibly beautiful in this location. The only issue we had was that the downstairs had a mildewy smell. I'm not sure if this was a one-time thing due to the carpet being wet in one of the bedrooms, or if it always smells like that. But otherwise this place is a gem and we are planning to return in two years!
Awesome location disconnected from the social world. (they do have WiFi now - suggest you use that only if required)
What a fantastic time we had. Four sisters and one brother brought our families here from three different states to attend a family reunion close by. We really loved the property. It's beautiful. The spring pool was perfect for the kids. The adults enjoyed jumping in the spring pool after a long run on the hilly terrain of PA. The kids enjoyed the large field for playing kickball and baseball. We went creek walking one afternoon to cool down. The lake/pond was great for fishing. We made a fire in the fire pit and star gazed. We ended up having twenty people stay and there was room for everyone in the house without stepping on each other. The kitchen is well stocked with pots, pans, dishes, ect. The downstairs game room was fun for the kids with a pool table and ping pong table. The loft slept all the boy cousins and the bunk room slept all the girl cousins. We got to disconnect for a few days. Very relaxing ! Thanks for sharing your home !
Wow! What a property and what a house... Our Memorial Day weekend get together (14 adults, 14 kids) met the misfortune of lots of steady showers, but we didn't let that stop our fun. When the rain was light enough, we would get out to canoe, fish, catch salamanders, go for hikes, and enjoy the gorgeous scenery. We spotted Eastern Phoebes (living on the deck), catbirds, swallows, white breasted nuthatches, cardinals, as well as a northern water snake, and a fawn. When the rain was heavy, we hunkered down in the house, playing cards, pool, ping pong, having nerf gun wars, reading books, and enjoying the two fireplaces. There were lots of miscellaneous toys and board games tucked in the cabinets. The great room is a wonderful place to all be together even while doing separate activities, but there's also plenty of room in the house to find privacy. Every corner you turn, you find a different little curio or vintage piece of furniture. One wardrobe was checked multiple times to see if Narnia was at the back. The faux animal skins and copper vats inspired many Game of Thrones jokes. There is wireless at the house now and a couple of us connected to it, but most us stayed blissfully offline, with no regrets. The kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans, common spices and cooking needs, etc. Double fridges were clutch for feeding so many people. Love the quiet dishwasher and the open shelving and large pantry which made it easy to store food and cook and clean up. Bathrooms were plentiful - not every room has a full bath with shower or tub but if you're good enough friends to be staying together out in the middle of nowhere, you're good enough friends to manage taking turns with the showers, right? One note - make sure anyone you plan on putting in the sleeping loft is able to manage climbing a completely vertical ladder and getting back down. Kids love it but have to be old enough to be safe on it, and adults have to be young enough to pull themselves over the top! When you see pictures of the carpets online, you might think musty or allergies, but this place was one of the cleanest I've ever stayed and had no wet carpet smell. I get sneezy very quickly and never did here! The owner called by phone to check in the first night and was very friendly and responsive to all my pre-trip questions. He made it very easy! Thanks for such a great stay! We loved it and can't wait to come back!
First of all thank you Josh & Michael for helping our retreat come together effortlessly and make it the best ever with your very responsive (within minutes usually) answers and helpful guidance that helped us coordinate the activities and menu (love Bingmans meats) for 26 people & 5 dogs from 4 states. We have been having a get together at different locations (usually staying at various hotels etc) for the past 10 years as our group is very extended from DC to Ohio. We have been wanting a place everyone can drive too easily that was big enough for all of us to be under one roof yet with enough outdoor activities to keep everyone happy (not easy to do) - from golf to hiking to swimming to grilling and making smores by the bonfire. We literally found the perfect place and the nicest owners who helped us with finding a great local butcher who cut us the freshest meats and delicious burgers for our dinners and introduced us to a local Buffalo Farm where there are literally hundreds of wild buffalo roaming over huge fields - the kids could not believe how big they were!! I probably reached out 5 times with questions of the owners and they always got back with a response in minutes. The house is really big and well laid out and at night the game room was in full use to the wee hours. We went on group hikes everyday, the kids fished and the dogs thought they discovered paradise. On the final night we had a big bonfire under the most amazing star filled sky and made smores till marshmallows came out of our ears. We had an amazing, amazing vacation at your home and we cannot thank you enough! We cannot wait to return next year.
The home is in a beautiful location with a spectacular old growth forest, well kept property, a mountain stream, and a spring-fed pond for swimming. The panoramic view from the large deck was gorgeous. The kitchen was very well stocked with cooking utensils and sundries. There were plenty of beds for a large family get-together. There was lots of easily accessible wood for the fireplaces. However, the home furnishings and utilities were a throw-back to the 1970's - very appropriate for a hunting party, less so for a family reunion. The internet connection was a throw-back to the 1990's. Also, there was no heat in the lower bathroom and counter tops were minimal at best. The canoe had a hole and the kayak was not to be found. There was a pile of electrical trash next to the house which would present a problem to any young children. The damper to the downstairs fireplace was broken, which we learned of when the house filled with smoke. The kitchen had a mouse. The owners threw in bedding and towels at no additional cost but you need to make the beds. After the addition of fees, taxes, etc., the final cost was 40% more than the listed per night cost. A beautiful home but not worth that amount. My family has been doing reunions for over twenty years across the eastern United States. We have consistently found large homes of equal value for one half the cost.
This property is stunning and very well maintained. Wherever you look all you see are stunning views. During our rental weekend, the daffodils were in full bloom everywhere and it was a sight to behold. It is the perfect place to spend your time reconnecting with nature and your family away from the hustle and bustle of life. The house is well stocked with amenities for outdoor activities like fishing and boating. You can go on hikes. There is a charming stream that flows through the property. There is a fabulous pool right upfront,. As it was April and the water was cold we were unable to go for a swim in it, but the kids had a great time dipping their foot in it and playing in the water..The kitchen is tidy and has all things you would need. Its a perfect getaway. We look forward to coming back...
Our party of 25+ adults (ages 26-62) rented this property for 3 days in late March / early April. The photos do not do the property justice, especially the privacy and spaciousness of both the home and the land surrounding it. Upon arrival we found all of the bedding, bathrooms, and kitchen to be extremely clean and in good order. The owners were extremely responsive and helpful, quick to answer any questions including those asked the day we were to arrive at the property. From a courtesy call on our arrival day to make sure everything was okay, to allowing us to take our time during departure since no one else was coming in that day (other than the cleaning crew). The interior of the cabin is filled with treasures that sparked conversations throughout the weekend. The wide open great room with the fireplace and the basement game room with fireplace provided plenty of space for everyone even though it rained during most of our stay. The upstairs bedrooms and bathrooms were perfect for our older guests, and the younger guests enjoyed the thrill of climbing the hay ladder into the sleeping loft. We were amazed at the number of fishing rods and outdoor items (soccer balls, volley ball, bad mitten rackets, football, croquet set, etc...) that the owners provided in the downstairs hallway. The amount of cut, dried, and stacked firewood well outlasted the fires we had going all weekend. As the owners noted, cell service is spotty, however we tested a Verizon Jetpack that worked well. To say the kitchen was well stocked would be an understatement, it had a plethora of pots, pans, mixing bowls, muffin pans, large stock pots, and the Keurig and regular drip coffee maker kept all of our guests happy and caffeinated. The dishwasher looked brand new, and the two fridges were very clean and provided plenty of space for all of our food. Just a note, one fridge has a top freezer with ice maker, and the other fridge is a full free standing unit with about 5-6 shelves (no freezer). A few of our braver guests made the polar plunge into the spring fed pond, and we enjoyed fishing in the larger pond. The true remoteness of this property is amazing. Standing outside on the full wrap around deck you are instantly at peace as the only sound is the creek and wind blowing through the mountainside. I highly recommend making the trip up to rocking chair ridge and enjoying the beauty of the surrounding property. We cannot wait to visit this property again in the near future!
This property is so perfect! We have a large group of 20 people and spend a weekend every year out here enjoying the breathtaking beauty of the region. It's quite rare to find a place that has a lake, natural swimming pond, and creek running right beside each other. Sitting up on the balcony with the fire crackling inside is the most peaceful thing - I HIGHLY recommend this place to anyone else looking to escape and get away for a bit!
Combine a beautiful, 7 BR / 5 bath ski lodge type home on 600 acres of mountains, trails, a natural spring pond, and a small lake, all located in the Allegheny Mountains of southeastern Pennsylvania, with 37 lovingly close family members scattered across Virginia, Maryland, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Tennessee and Hamilton, Canada and what do you have? An absolutely wonderful, relaxing, fun-filled, awe inspiring post-Christmas 4 day family reunion at the White Horse Mountain Home. The open floor plan and cathedral ceiling gave us plenty of room to be together and not feel cramped. The grounds outside were beautiful and at night we would lie on the benches of the wrap-around deck and look at all the stars....they were amazing! The open fields in the area facilitated many rounds of football, ultimate frisbee and croquet and the indoor ping pong and pool tables were in constant use, along with the fireplaces in both the main living room and the basement. It was an absolutely wonderful place to disconnect from normal demands and reunite with our wonderful extended family across three generations. We highly recommend it to all and hope to go there again sometime soon.
This place is amazing! My husband and I went up with a group of friends for a long weekend and we did not want to come home. The house is wonderful with all new windows and sliding doors. The beds were comfortable and had all the amenities you could ask for. The view overlooking the pond was great. We went up to the top of the mountain and watched the most amazing sunset. I can’t wait to go back in the summer to swim in the most incredible natural pool. I personally have not seen anything like it and can’t wait to try it. We both have very stressful jobs. Who could ask for a more perfect way to decompress and leave the hustle and bustle of everyday life behind. I highly recommend this place to add to your list of places to visit!
We have been using VRBO for many years and the whole group (15 people) unanimously agreed this is by far our favorite place. In fact and we have already rebooked for next year. First of all there is so much land to hike and explore its awesome. We brought our dogs and they ran until they passed out. It looks like they just upgraded a number of items like new windows, doors and kitchen items because the home is beautiful and perfectly laid out for large groups. The weather was beautiful so we were outside all day and at night we made a huge dinner, built a big fire and roasted marshmallows and played Pictionary and Charades until the wee hours of the night. Speaking of the night, make sure you sit on the porch at night and turn off all the outside lights - the stars are amazing. Download a Stargazer app on your phone before you come, the kids will love it. The boys also had an epic pool and ping pong marathon that will go down as one of the all time VRBO great experiences. The owners were also easy to work with as we had a few requests for our group and they responded no problem. I could go on and on but take it from a seasoned VRBOer, this place is very special and we cannot wait to return.
Let's start with the drive into the Lodge ... be sure to arrive during daylight hours. If you can time it to be driving in during one of the golden hours when the sunlight is at its peak for photo opportunities that is even better. The scenery after you get off of Route 31 and drive along Pine Valley Road includes some great views of some of the picturesque rolling pastures and wooded hills. If the weather permits, stop after you turn into the driveway, turn off your cell phone, radio. IPod , etc. and roll down your car window(s). Take a few moments to acclimate yourself to the sounds and smells of the woods. Take a deep breath and drive down the long driveway. Be sure to pause and enjoy some of the views. We'll concede that the long driveway has very places that two cars can get past at the same time. But it's certainly not a reason to avoid renting the Lodge. As you approach the Lodge you will pass a well maintained deck that overlooks the private lake. We had the pleasure of seeing and hearing a small flock of loons that were settling onto the lake for the night. The views outside the Lodge are outstanding. For our stay, the trees were sporting a full spectrum of bright and colorful leaves. There were plenty of trails for hiking. Some of our guests lacked orienteering skills so the trails could have been a little better marked. The Lodge is situated to help maximize the views and there was plenty of parking. The large Lodge was warm and inviting. Some folks may have labeled it as outdated. We chose to look at it as retro. For some of us, parts of the décor reminded us of our childhoods and our parents homes. Everything was clean and ready to use. We did have to relocate a few spiders to the outside for a couple of squeamish folks in our group. We used the Lodge for our 25th Wedding Anniversary party. There was plenty of room for us to set up tables and chairs for our 40 guests. Sorry Josh, we had to move a few of the comfy hickory rockers out of the way to make room for the tables. Of course we put them back. With some pre-planning, we were able to prepare a large meal in the kitchen. Be sure to bring your own spices and leave a jar for the next folks. We had 21 people stay overnight. The beds were comfy and bathrooms were plentiful. Everyone got nice hot showers. The loft is for the young (and young at heart). Access is via a ladder and it's a bit of challenge to navigate. Our family rating: Simply SPECTACULAR
This was the perfect spot for our business/vacation group meeting. The property is so far back off the road and in the middle of nowhere that you will feel completely at ease. We never even locked our vehicles or the doors to the house. Interior is slightly dated and needs some updating, but as we were leaving after 5 days,we met the owners coming in to start a remodeling project with many new fixes. The land is so beautiful - acres of awesome manicured lawns great for walking, watching wildlife from the porch, shooting or playing, swimming pool/cement pond, HUGE fishing pond (we caught bigmouth bass, perch, bluegill & crappie), incredible hiking opportunities with nicely maintained trails and streams with nice foot bridges that provide a great woods experience on mostly level ground. The exposure to a peaceful and very private nature experience was the reason we stayed here and it delivered big time. The house is really large and the pics are accurate. As I said earlier, it is in need of some updates but honestly the total experience was so good I couldn't care less. We didn't go there for the 'hotel' type feel. It's a nice comfortable house with a full kitchen and 2 fridges that has all the pots, pans, utensils, and dinnerware you could want to feel like you're at home. The owners were very accommodating and answered all of our questions immediately. All the contact with them was top notch. Highly recommend, you won't find a property like this with more land than you could use and a private 'catching' (not just fishing) pond that is very accessible and clean. Book it!!
We had a wonderful time. The representation on the listing is equal to the actual house and grounds. The kitchen is spacious enough for several people to simultaneously work and clean. The loft is great for kids. The house is filled with all sorts of interesting oddities and photographs. The fishing was great, but I won't reveal any secrets. We caught lots of fish and released them all with zero mortalities. We saw deer, wild turkey and heard an owl hooting at night. We made a fire each night in the fire pit and there was ample wood stocked on site. There is lots of room for parking. The house did not get too hot and we were there in late August....no AC, but no problem. There are floats and pool noodles in the basement to use in the pond. I would recommend visiting Coral Caverns (30 minute drive), if you are there on a rainy day... bring cash they don't take plastic. Bring what you need, because it's a long round trip for supplies, but it's a nice ride out to Coalfield. A great place to spend a week or weekend with friends and family. We will definitely be back.
Beautiful land and property. Everyone in our group had a fantastic time. Can't wait to visit again!
Check-in time and check-out time are the same....noon. This leaves little time for the cleaning crew to prepare the premises for the next party. There is no air-conditioning so be prepared to sweat if you go in August. The house accommodates 25 people but only seats 10 for meals. When we arrived we found that the screen in the sliding screen door between the deck and the kitchen was kicked in. The cleaning crew saw the damage so I thought they would notify someone to repair it. No one ever showed! Fortunately we brought some duct tape with us and we made our own temporary repair. The provided charcoal grill was in disrepair and the previous party failed to remove the ashes. This would be a five star property if these issues were resolved. Now for the good part: If you are looking for some peace and quiet in a spectacular rural setting then this is the property for you. The hiking trails through the mountains are awesome. If sports and outdoor games are your thing then you won't be disappointed. Plenty of room for football, baseball, kickball, volleyball, horseshoes and anything else you may want. We went to the Flight 93 Memorial which was only a thirty minute drive. If you have not yet visited the Memorial I urge you to do so.
This is our second year having rented this property and we still loved it. There's plenty to do there. A big field for sports, a small pond for swimming, a lake for canoeing and fishing, a big wrap around deck for sitting (with a beautiful view). The owner(s) seem to be updating it, as we found a new dishwasher and coffee maker this year. Some notes: * There is no Air Conditioning, but you don't need it. Being in the mountains, it cools down at night. Even on a very hot day, a fan in the windows at night is enough to make it very comfortable * Bring your own bait if you plan to fish. Last year there was fresh bait in the fridge, this year not, but there were still poles to use. * There is one canoe with 3 paddles and life jackets provided. * There is a surprising lack of bugs, even at night we barely got bit. Lots of birds and bats around probably help with that. * There is no TV. We brought our own (for video games / movies) but hardly used it at all because the outdoor activities were so fun. * It's so far from other houses we could just let the dogs roam free, it's their favorite weekend of the year. We will definitely go back for a third year if the house is still available.
We enjoyed a weekend getaway at this beautiful house with a group of friends (mostly adult couples, a baby, and a toddler). The owners were really great to work with -- I asked a ton of questions leading up to our arrival, and each time they responded within an hour or two. It made it very easy to plan and coordinate with our group. The place was easy to find. The owners provided directions for the last few miles or so which were easy to follow, but some people just used their GPS and had no issues. The property itself is absolutely gorgeous. My jaw dropped when I came down the driveway and saw the lake and the swimming pond. It is perfect if you are looking to be cut off from the world for awhile -- there is next to no cell phone reception (although there is a land line in the kitchen), no TV, nothing to distract from doing what you came there to do -- hang out and enjoy the company of friends. No other houses are in sight. For longer stays I know there is plenty to do in the surrounding area, but for our two night stay, we did not even have to leave the property. We all swam/kayaked/canoed during the day, grilled at night, and had fires in the fire pit in the evening. There are tons of trails around the property for hiking/adventuring. Our resident toddler had a great time swimming in the swimming pond, running around on the grass, and exploring the HUGE house. The house was clean and beautiful with plenty of rooms. No AC, but there are fans in every single room. We slept just fine at night and got the airflow moving well enough during the day that it was a non-issue. I think my best piece of advice would be to make sure you come prepared with anything you might need. The owners have listed out some local grocery stores and places for supplies in the house, but it is a pretty far drive to get to any full service grocery store. Doable, but better if you can bring all your things ahead of time! A few smaller places nearby seemed like they would be helpful in a pinch. We hope to come back again next summer! Cannot recommend highly enough : )
We have been trying to find a venue for a family reunion for years - where 8 adults and 9 kids could all find things to do to keep them busy and get reconnected with each other and not their electronic devices. This was an AWESOME place to have such a get together! Early morning fishing in the lake, mid-day hikes through the woods, and afternoon swims in the cement pond - kept everyone busy and active. Cabin was very private and secluded. No neighbors in any direction. We were able to play music, sing, have campfires at night - all to ourselves. The dogs loved the property too, they couldn't get enough of running around and swimming after the kids in the canoe. This really allows you to enjoy the outdoors in the peace and quiet of the Laurel Mountains. We had a great time and will definitely be back. This is a great recommendation for small or large groups. It really allows for a relaxing time with beautiful scenery!
I reserved this cabin for myself and 15 of my friends for a weekend trip. We are in our 30's and getting away isn't so easy anymore. Needless to say, this was a very needed trip. Fairhope is a beautiful area. Driving to the cabin made me proud to be from Pennsylvania. The farm land was pretty cool. I had a few friends with me from Croatia and they were in awe of the land. The driveway to the cabin is a lot of fun. It feels like a half a mile drive through a forrest/wonderland. I felt like I was in Harry Potter ; ) The cabin itself is beautiful and massive. The porch wraps around the entire house and provides incredible views of the property. We were able to keep tabs on everyone just by sitting on the porch. - Plenty of space inside. We were very entertained by the kitchen, living room, and the game room downstairs. The lake is awesome! - There was a lot of canoing & fishing going on. Many fish were caught (and returned). There was a field near the house that was perfect for frisbee, soccer, and football. We had incredible soccer games and ultimate frisbee games. The wrap around porch served as a cheering deck as well. There was no WiFi, TV, and cell phone reception. It was incredible to be somewhere where everyone wasn't playing around on their I-phone's. Everyone had anxiety about it at first, but then it became one of the best parts of the trip. We were truly entertained by the nature and the house. I can't wait to go back - I will reccomend this cabin to anyone.
The property was perfect for my get together! Ample space indoors and out! Also dealing with Michael couldn't have been easier. Would highly recommend this property for anyone looking to get away, enjoy their company and the beautiful outdoors.
This place was large, the owners were very easy to work with and provided a ton of firewood. The lake was awesome to have to ourselves. You have a lot of privacy. Everything was in pretty good shape in the house. Not really sure what else to say. You can hike, probably hunt if you have the permits, fish, BBQ and build huge fires. Awesome all the way around.
We couldn't have asked for a better (and more adventurous) weekend!! We ended up staying at the cabin during the massive snowstorm of 2016 and were completely snowed in for the few days we were there. We woke up in the middle of a winter wonderland with 7' snow drifts covering our cars. We spent the days hiking through the thigh-deep snow that covered the property. It was absolutely magical!!! We had the fire going non-stop and our group loved the feeling of cozying up in a cabin in the middle of nowhere. Michael was super helpful at making sure that plows and tractors got back to us so we could get out on time. If you are looking for a great retreat spot - this is it!
We had rented this proprietary for New Year and I can say just this...Absolutely amazing place to enjoy time with your family and friends. The fact that the Cabin had no Internet, 4g and a TV made us realized that we can have a great time relaxing, playing games, taking multiple hiking trips and the most important thing....the kids interact more with each other instead of getting lost in the electric world. The owner is a great person, very easy to talk to and very responsive as well. We are going to rent the place again this year. I want to thank him again for the great opportunity. We definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants to relax and enjoy the forest. CB.
We had a full house and everyone had enough room to live, sleep, and eat. Beautiful property - lake, pond, stream, hills, fields, trails, woods. The kids were busy despite no TV and no Cell/Wi-fi - a true miracle these days. :)
Enjoyed a weekend in the fall and the area was very beautiful. Stayed inside most the time since the weather was cold but having the fireplaces made it cozy. Outdated interior, but very clean and comfortable beds.
Owners were very helpful. The site is deep in the woods and is on a large property. There is so much to do just on the property that we didn't even have to leave during the weekend. The kids in our party loved the pond next to the house. We went out on the lake with the canoe. I would definitely bring my family here again.
Excellent opportunity for a guy's getaway. Fishing was great, plenty of space for yard games, fire pit, and grilling. Thank you for the great weekend - can't wait to do it again!
Great place . Went there with some close friends and we had a blast. Fishing was great scenery was awesome. If u like the mountains and being excluded from everything you'll definitely want to come here. AMAZING I will be back
We spent the weekend here with a group of about 20 of us. We found the house charming and there was ample space for everybody. There were plenty of activities in the house and more than enough space to utilize them outside. The charcoal grill was bigger than expected which really helped for the group size that we had. The property is beautiful, the landlord was helpful and very responsive, and everything was clean and prepared for us when we arrived. We would certainly come back again under the same circumstances. Thanks for helping to facilitate a great experience.
We were a big group on 12 adults and 5 kids. The house was very spacious and could easily accomodate upto 25 guests. House was kept clean when we reached. No cell phone signal which we didnt mind as we were looking for a get away. Only con I could think of is the bore well water not feeling that great , but we got drinking water from town. We enjoyed the spacious ground for games, private lake with a canoa and ponds. We would definitely come back here again.
My friends and I wanted to get away from NYC and just relax. This was perfect since none of us had any cell phone signal we got to completely get away. The house was spacious and we had all the space we could possibly want outside to run around, play sports, and go hiking. I would love to visit this same house again with my friends since we wish our weekend stay would have been longer.
Our large, very loud family spent the weekend celebrating our Mom's 70th Birthday and I can't thank the owners enough for sharing their beautiful house and property with us. This rental is perfect for large families who want to be all together for a few days. The large kitchen was perfect for preparing our meals and the center island was great for serving. The kids had fun fishing and canoeing on the large lake. We brought our own fishing poles, however, you don't have to. The house is stocked with fishing equipment and there was even bait in the freezer. We brought our dogs and they loved being able to run free. This house sits in a valley all by itself with no one around for miles. You are only surrounded by beautiful mountains and the hiking trails go on and on.....we only wish we could have stayed longer to explore them all. This house has no TV or wifi which turned out to be a blessing as we sat around at night enjoying a talent show put on by our children. We laughed and sang along all night long which was way better than any TV show or internet. The owner was fabulous and very accommodating. Everyone wants to come back again next year to make even more wonderful family memories!
This property has something to offer everyone! From a three year old to a sixt-three year old, we all had a great family weekend. The drive was short and scenic and once you arrive you can truly unplug and relax. We enjoyed hiking in the expansive woods, stomping around the creek, and fishing in the beautiful lake. The owner was a pleasure to rent from and we will be back! Highly recommend this property!!
Spent the weekend with 6 adults and 9 teenage boys and the facilities were more than adequate to accommodate the group of this size. The grounds were well manicured for our retreat and the fire pit was great for the adults for a late night beverage. The size of the house was perfect and no one was tripping over each other. The lake was well maintained and was stocked with bass, perch and bluegill. My son caught at least 30 fish each time he went to the lake. And, finally the lake worked well as a swimming hole with the hot muggy day’s we had. Pets will have plenty of space as well.
Visited for a Father-Son Weekend. The cabin was spacious and very comfortable. The outdoors were spectacular. Went fishing, hiking, and shooting. Was a fantastic setting and well worth the trip. Cannot wait to do it again soon!
I Rented this cabin for a Dad's and Son's Weekend. Everyone had an AWESOME time!!! Expansive property, quiet and completely private. Cannot hear or see a neighbor in any direction. Great features of the property include a private lake for fishing swimming, canoeing, a stream running through the entire property, swimming pond, trails for hiking, fire pit, fields for games and sports, wrap-a-round deck for relaxing and watching the kids have a great time. My dog was in heaven! Cabin is huge, tons of room for sleeping and hanging out. The boys loved the gameroom downstairs with two pool tables, and the dads loved hanging out by the fireplace upstairs. I highly recommend this rental for individual families or groups of friends. Enough room for 20+ people without ever feeling cramped. Good wholesome fun: Bon Fires, Smores, fishing, hiking, beautiful scenery! Will definitely rent again!!
We had a group of about 10 teenagers and 6 fathers. This was the absolute best spot for a weekend get away for our group. The house is great for socializing and still allows for some separation if you want to get away from the kids. Fishing was awesome - I would actually refer to it as catching not fishing. Many fish caught over the weekend. All the kids had a great time and I look forward to a return visit. Highly recommended!!
Such a beautiful home - and big! We were five couples with 6 children and three dogs that wanted to get away for a quick weekend with the kids. We had plenty of space to move around. This place was perfect. Very private and incredibly beautiful. We fished and hiked and went canoeing and the kids spent every day catching minnows and crayfish in the stream. At night we cooked and grilled and sat by the fire and watched the shooting stars. Really a magical place for the family. The dogs loved it too, they had so much space to roam. The kids cried when we were ready to leave. We will definitely be back and highly recommend it.
Wanted to get away with the family for a few days and do some hiking and biking and sightseeing. Also wanted a place with close proximity to shopping and antiquing and maybe a few restaurants. Also wanted a place that was quiet and not on a lot line with another house. The headline of 500 acres caught my eye and from the second I drove down the almost mile long driveway, I could feel the stress of the city slip away. This place is amazing!!! Totally private and quiet, there were ducks and geese on the lake when we drove in and at night, deer and turkeys were in the field right in front of the house, my dogs loved that. The kids played in the stream all day and we hiked for hours almost every day. Every night we cooked and played games by the fire. Took a day to go antiquing in Bedford and also saw the Flight 93 Memorial. This place is a dream - we will be back soon. Also the owner was so easy to deal with, very easy going.
I brought a group of eight college student leaders for a weekend retreat in the fall of 2015. This was a perfect spot to get away and enjoy PA's beautiful nature! The cabin is situated in a scenic valley with great views of the autumn trees. The cabin has a wonderful common space with the kitchen set right off of it, making for a perfect spot for our group to cook meals, spend time together, and look out at the views. We were able to hike in the forest and a few students even did a bit of a polar plunge in the (chilly) pool. I would highly recommend this cabin to anyone wanting to gather for a large family outing or group of students or professionals! The cabin owner was likewise great to work with - very responsive and on top of things.
We have a large group - 12 adults and 20+ kids, so it is difficult to find a place that is willing to allow so many children. This will be our third year renting, and it really is the perfect place for us! Plenty of space for everyone, a lake for fishing and canoeing, a creek to play in, trails to hike, a pool table, and more. It is VERY secluded and peaceful - I believe the closest store was about 25-30 minutes away.
