This property delivers! A chance to enjoy a peaceful location. Exceptional home.
A bit pricey, but it was the only place I've stayed where it looked better than the pictures!
The place was great last year when we stayed there, but this year it looked like it had sat for some time, cobwebs all over the ceiling, the wood work had lots of dust on it, some of the shelves, looked as if it been a year sense dusted. The mantel was even worse. The Water heater kept shutting off after just minutes in the shower, it would drop quickly to cold, and freezing you out. That sucked!!! after a few mins with it turned off it would reset and you could continue. Not fun in Feb. when your trying to enjoy a nice hot shower. Over all it needs better care and a better house keeper defiantly.
We have visited this home many times and no matter the season, it is a perfect place for a quiet getaway! The home is spacious and perfectly fits both our family and our friends family. The views are spectacular! We would highly recommend! ~Steve L.
This is a beautiful cabin in the woods which is so well cared for, clean, and well equipped. It completely exceeded or expectations, and my family had a wonderful time! We would love to visit again.
The house was fabulous. Very homey and comfy. The surrounding property was beautiful. Wonderful views. We can’t wait to go back.
Such a lovely and peaceful location. A fully stocked kitchen with very comfortable beds. Very clean. Great outdoor area for sitting. Enough comfortable sitting and sleeping for 12 women. The home itself is unique and lovely. The property manager was very kind and helpful. I would easily stay here again!
Woodland creatures were abundant nearby trails for hiking and biking, although the Howard prairie lake was too low to enjoy water activities it was beautiful and the near by Lake of the Woods was just 20 minutes up the road for a day of swimming. The house was perfect for our family of 11, the open floor plan kept us all together and the Bocce Ball was a favorite activity for ALL!
Great, as usual
This property is just so pretty. It's the perfect place to get away and relax. All of the beds and furniture were high quality. Everything was clean. The bikes were in good working condition. I loved the personality and colors in the kitchen and home decor. There were a lot of personal touches about the history of the family that built the house. The house is walking distance from the lake. There's a bike path around the lake which is a little tricky with fallen trees etc..but at some point we made our way to the road and came back there. we also Rode all around the regular road that goes around the lake. The pond and waterfall made you feel you were near a stream. Such a cool spot! Pioneers came from Tennessee to this property in 1854! such a cool fact!
Wonderfully maintained place to relax and get away from the city. Quiet and private location with beautiful scenery.
8 of us friends stayed. Came up to mountain bike in the area. Beautiful place, we all had a great time and was very relaxing. Space for everyone to enjoy each other’s company or be off by themselves.
This was a great house to rent for our vacation, just a few minor hiccups that made it unpleasant. If your looking for things to do when renting a house this place has it all. Biking, hiking, fishing, eating, drinking and ways to get out onto the water. Just be careful they currently have rats living on the back patio which makes it hard to sit outside at night and enjoy the fireplace and waterfall. The rats also like the bbq so make sure to check inside before you preheat. Also the bats are cute and fun until they dive bomb the back patio at night. This was our second time at the property first time did not have any of these issues just the house was not cleaned very well. This last time house was spotless but had to deal with the rats at dinner and night time. On the fence if we will return but it does have so much to do for a family.
We were so happy we rented this property! Although we were only a party of 4, we could see how well this house would accommodate a large group of 10 or more people. Beautiful views of either lake or forest from every window. The kitchen was very well stocked with everything from blender, electric mixer to coffee grinder. Very easy to cook in and still be able to socialize with others in the great room. Hot water on demand was also a nice feature. Our absolute favorite spot was the covered patio with stone fireplace next to pond/stream. It was hard to tear ourselves away and go enjoy other things. The only thing to note (which may be a good or bad thing) is that there is limited cell phone coverage, no wifi or satellite/cable tv. There is a DVD player connected to a television upstairs in the game room but do not plan on watching live television. We stayed over the 4th of July week and found it a lovely break from the crowded Ashland festivities.
Wonderful, peaceful place to spend time with family. The kids loved exploring the property and finding creatures. The adults enjoyed the back patio and the relaxing sound of the stream. The house was beautiful and there was plenty of room for our large group. The kitchen was great for meal prepping and the beds comfortable. We all agreed it would be a wonderful place to return to if we were able!
Great house. Extremely well appointed. Beds very comfortable. Beautiful setting. We loved it.
We had a wonderful experience at this families home. The amenities were wonderful and so serene. The property was wonderful! Lakeside, creek side, and a pond that was perfect for the kids to safely play around while the parents watched nearby in luxury! We had 2 families with us during our stay and the house was plenty large enough for us all. Thanks for sharing your families homestead with us all, such a treat!
12 people slept very easily in the property. The place was very clean and neat upon arrival. There are not any neighbors right by the house, so you’re somewhat secluded. I would recommend this house to anybody looking for a relaxing getaway.
The wood thru out the house was very beautiful... The peace and serenity of the water behind the house was spectacular.. Kitchen had everything you needed to whip up a fabulous dinner... my family didn’t want to leave it was that special... We thank for sharing your beautiful home... Ed and Teresa Bressoud
Fabulous place even in the winter. Very accommodating for our large family. Nice that the kids had the upstairs while adults had grown-up time downstairs. Kitchen had all the extras that one might need.. thank you for sharing your home!
The house was well stocked and had plenty of space for our family of 13! I would recommend this property to anyone we know!
We had a fantastic family get together at your beautiful home! Appreciated ample kitchen supplies and recreational equipments like the bikes and kayaks!
The house is situated among mature Ponderosa pines overlooking Howard Lake and a spring fed pond stocked with 12-15 inch rainbow trout. We enjoyed fishing and paddling the kayaks that were provided as well as the stand up paddle boards that we brought on both the pond and the lake. As can be seen in the pictures the house is in excellent condition, well stocked, and easily accomodated 11 of us for the week. We also took in Ashland plays, a Rogue River raft trip and a visit to Crater Lake. Everyone wants to rent it again next year.
This is our second stay at Red's Cabin. Each time we leave feeling exhausted from all of the outdoor activity, but well-rested in mind and spirit. There just isn't time enough to explore all that there is to do in the woods! It's an outdoor adventure just kayaking in the pond, or venturing down to the 'big' lake...playing bocce ball or sitting by the outdoor fire. The cabin itself is gorgeous, incredibly comfortable and well-stocked. Games, kitchen equipment, cozy furniture and the easy-to-light-first-thing-in-the-morning-fire is my favorite amenity in addition to the kids' area upstairs complete with ping pong! It's the perfect spot for a getaway...with beauty & history all around, inside and out. We are so grateful that this family allows others to experience comfortable cabin living! The Kraft Family
We loved our stay at this beautiful home in an incredible setting. So peaceful; we felt like we had the lake to ourselves. Trails right out the door kept adults and kids entertained for hours. The house was rustic luxury, and those of us without cell service (AT&T) enjoyed the break. Thank you!
The house is so nice and clean and stocked with everything you need . The views are amazing , we walked around the property everyday .. The house is so cozy and the layout is so nice we loved it will be back again for sure ...
From the moment you enter the property, the scene is gorgeous. Every detail of this home is magical, special, and so well thought out in design, structure, lay out and how the owner's present this home..you can tell they care for this place and want their guest to feel cared for and comfortable. It is super clean from every corner. They provide everything you could ever need except for food. My family and I appreciated the history this property has and blessed that the owners are willing to share this with guests. Thank you! We will return. Eliasar and his wife were our host contact, they were very kind and made checking in and out very easy and pleasant. Love this place so much! Thanks for letting us make some great memories with our family.
This home is beyond amazing. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving stay. The home is even better than the photos. It is clean and comfortable. This lovely place has everything you could possibly need. We took things to cook our Thanksgiving dinner and took it all home, unused. Lovely, wonderful, amazing...the best vacation rental home we have ever booked. The owners have spared no expense to make a welcoming home. We are planning to book again.
We loved this spot! What a treasure. We had a relaxing time and enjoyed all this house had to offer- the pond, the lake, running and hiking around the lake trail, kayaking, feeding the fish, listening to the waterfall by the back patio, the ping pong, fusball, cooking in the gigantic kitchen, mountain biking, visiting ashland, renting a boat on the lake, discovering swimming spots... so much in only a few days. Wish it could have been longer. Thank you for a wonderful time.
House was clean and very spacious. Kitchen was very well appointed. Outdoor area was beautiful and we had fun splashing around the fish pond. They provide a lot of fun activities (kayaks, bikes, ladder golf, bocci ball, foos ball, ping pong). The view of the lake is lovely as were the trails alongside it (recommend towards the right if you're facing away from house). The lake itself was kind of gross and we didn't swim in it due to detergent foam around edges and pea soup appearance of water. We really loved the outdoor fireplace. My only criticism really is that they had rat poison in and outside yet gave no warning so beware if you have a small child.
Our families had a great time creating adventures everyday. From hiking, biking, kayaking and renting boats from the marina to explore the lake, this house was perfect. The kitchen was well stocked and a joy to hangout with family in. Would recommend to the owners to install curtains in upstairs bedroom and bunkroom. House was clean but could use a deep clean to get all cobwebs inside and out. We also enjoyed the outdoor fireplace every night. This is a great house to rent with lots of pluses we will be renting again in the future.
Tough ride up the mountain every night after attending the Ashland Shakespeare Festival, but OH SO WORTH IT ! The setting, the spacious lodge outfitted with every modern convenience in the kitchen, the two fireplaces, the ping pong, foosball, bocce ball, badminton, 5 mountain bikes with helmets, the 2 kayaks were fabulous replacements for the kids lack of internet connectivity. The natural beauty of the setting on the pond with gorgeous lake view and easy access to the hiking trail was the icing on the cake. And what a cake it was. None of our 3 generation family wanted to leave.
This is by far, the best decision I made for my wedding last July. This home is even more beautiful than the already gorgeous pictures provided. The property is very well-kept, the owner provides us with even kayak and bicycle to explore the areas around. We would definitely come back and will definitely stay much longer. My entire family thoroughly enjoy the experience. THANK YOU It is also noteworthy that there is no Wifi and low service here. Perfect place for family bonding and relaxing time.
We were looking for a location to have our first full family reunion with our 6 children and 4 grandchildren. We wanted to get away but not have to travel far. This home proved to be an ideal experience for us and with the temperatures soaring in the valley below, the weather at this mountain retreat was spectacular! We were delighted as we walked in the door and were greeted with the beauty of reds cabin. The four rooms were quickly divvied up and we began to explore the surroundings. The pond was an immediate hit as we discovered dozens of trout and food to toss in which resulted in a feeding frenzy like we'd never seen. For the next several days we swam and boated with the fish in the pond as well as in the much warmer adjacent Howard Prairie lake, biked trails on the bikes we found in the garage, hiked and did photo shoots, played bocce ball, ping pong, foosball and badminton with provided equipment. We watched movies played games and cooked together until we were so at one with the property that we found it disheartening to leave. We can't say enough about the well equipped kitchen, outdoor patio/barbecue and everything that made this the most amazing inaugural family reunion we could have hoped for. Our only concern is how to top this location for the next go around. Perhaps we'll just end up back at reds cabin again. The Cluff family, Talent Oregon
Even better than described! It's right next to the lake and trail.
If you're considering this rental, stop over-thinking and JUST DO IT. Really, just do it. Here's the deal. As I was considering how I'd write this review, there was a devil sitting over my shoulder whispering don't tell the truth; if you actually tell everyone HOW REMARKABLE the property is, more people will come and it'll be harder for you to rent this property again. But I have to tell the truth, even if that means it'll be tougher for us to rent again. This home is wonderful. It's a majestic property. PERIOD. There's no point repeating what everyone else has stated about how well stocked it is, the functionality of the home and how easy it is to settle in for a wonderful off-the-grid experience. Everything that's been previously written is 100% factual. We're regular VRBO'ers. And if you're like us, you have some degree if skepticism based on your experiences. When we often arrive at a VRBO property we say things like well, I guess that's what the pictures look like. We walk into a VRBO experience with our eyes wide open, knowing it's another person's home, so of coarse things aren't the way we'd do it. There's some degree of acceptance one needs to use when renting another person's property. NOT SO IN THIS CASE. It really was perfect, in every way. We used the property as a location as a sort of family reunion. As every family member arrived - I mean EVERY member - the reaction was the same: Have we died and arrived in heaven? Is this REAL? It was real. It was real fun and it was wonderful. We're grateful this family has chosen to share their gift with others. We hope they'll allow us to rent it again.
Five adults and our combined six children spent our spring break vacation at this amazing house and we will never forget it. The sleeping porch was the perfect kid room and the adults' bedrooms were comfortable and spacious. The common areas were well loved and used all week - ping pong, foos ball, puzzles, board games, family meals around the table, s'mores around the fire pit, bocce ball, paddling around the pond, reading books under blankets on the couches, and even a talent show in the living room. We left the house a few times for bike rides, walks around the lake, trips into Ashland for pizza and exploration, but we were always glad to get back to the house for laughter and stories and complete relaxation. It was a perfect location for a multi-family getaway and we are already talking about when and how we can go back. The house had everything we needed - shampoo and conditioner in the bathrooms, paper towels and napkins, even a basket with snacks and bottled water. The spices, flour and sugar in the kitchen came in handy and the magazines, books and board games were a big hit. We never got around to watching a movie, but it was nice to see a good selection on hand. Loved every minute of our stay.
The pictures of this lodge very accurately portray what the lodge looks like inside and out. Loved having the two fireplaces...used them every day. The fact that they have a gas starter but burn real wood makes them so easy to use. We had our afternoon wine around the outdoor fireplace on a spacious patio listening to the lovely creek right beside us. What you cannot tell by the pictures is how perfectly stocked this home is with everything you could possibly need in the way of kitchen and bathroom basics. And there is adjacent access to a lovely walking trail either to the Howard Prairie resort or to the dam...perfect for an easy afternoon walk. The two master bathrooms on the first floor are next to the bedrooms making it easy for others on the second floor to use them without disturbing those of us staying in the master BR. Gorgeous sunrises. The local house manager is very helpful in familiarizing us with the house and how things work. It was spotlessly clean and just beautiful. Cell phone reception spotty, but landline provided for free use. No wifi or internet which was refreshing. We will definitely go back.
My husband & I rented this home for a special gathering of family and friends. It was beautiful and majestic. Everything was done with care and quality. It had real character and history of the homesteading family that still owns it to this day. It had all the amenities we needed, plus some extras like spices for cooking and condiments. Check in and out was easy and we had great communication with both the owners and the property managers. The fact that cell phone service was spotty for most carriers except Verizon was a wonderful blessing in disguise. It helped us to unplug and enjoy the nature and the quiet. And they also had a land line just in case for emergency, which was great. Some of my women friends are considering coming back here for a women's weekend and our family is considering a family reunion some time in the future. This will not be our last visit to Red's Cabin.
The house was amazing in a stunning setting! We had everything we needed and more that we didn't know we needed. The kids had endless amounts of fun fishing, playing ping pong, foose ball, bacce ball, hiking and more. The adults had a relaxing time not having to worry too much about where the kids were and the peaceful sound of the brook running right through the backyard. All in all an awesome trip!
We just spent a week staying at this wonderful place. Like staying at a five-star hotel but much more, it was mountain cabin sumptuousness. The owners have done such a great job in decor and design the rustic authenticity but superior quality of furnishings - sofas, bedding, towels, pillows have everything to make you feel you are in the lap of comfort and warmth. So much to offer - time spent around the outdoor fireplace, catching fish in the pond, riding the mountain bikes provided, playing bocce in the bocce court, a trunk full of games in the loft, made it hard to leave. It was a memorable vacation for all the ages represented in our family. We'd definitely go back!
Our family had a truly great time in Oregon at this beautiful house with a perfect location for putting everything on pause and enjoying the company of your family!!
This house was the most beautiful home we have ever stayed at. The home is warm and inviting and there was so much space for everyone in our party. The kitchen was amazing and the kids loved the game room. We enjoyed the spring fed pond and the grounds were gorgeous. The views to the lake were so relaxing. We loved the outdoor fireplace and the other patio for playing games. We all could have stayed here for an entire week. We would love to visit again. Thank you to the families who offer this house as a rental home.
What a lovely and well equipped home. We had everything we needed for a great family reunion. Very private. Lots of space to hang out and cook big meals. Enjoyed all of the outdoor spaces. Played games, rode bikes, boated on the lake, fished, went on hikes, went wine tasting and to the Shakespeare festival. Will come back again.
This is a beautiful home in a gorgeous setting. We gathered for a family reunion; the kids played in the pond; everyone took advantage of the local trails and we enjoyed not having neighbors close by. The outdoor fireplace is very relaxing at the end of the day. The house was well equipped with everything you would need; all you have to supply is food. The caretakers were very helpful getting us acquainted with the house. I would highly recommend this home.
This lodge is a hidden gem. We booked it for a five day stay and were reluctant to leave when our time was up. This is perfect location for a family reunion or gathering of friends, Close to the facilities at Howard Prairie Resort but away from the hustle and bustle, this lodge offers something for every member of the family-bikes, kayaks or settling in for a read on the patio overlooking the pond. Inside there is plenty space to either interact or find some peace and quiet. The house is spotless and well cared for. Interesting family mementos and history are on display throughout. We will return.
I can't say enough about the beauty and peaceful tranquility of this cabin and the location. We had an amazing stay with our family. Not only was the cabin perfect, but the mangers were very helpful, the cabin was well stocked with every convince and having no internet was an added bonus😉. Our only regret was that we couldn't stay longer. I would highly recommend.
This has to be one of my favorite places on earth. The beautifully appointed lodge style home sits on an incredible piece of property with almost unobstructed views of Howard Prairie Lake with a mountain range behind it. Words literally cannot describe... We biked, hiked, fished, played bocce ball, shopped in Ashland, wine-tased in Medford and more but what I enjoyed most was just hanging out in the adirondack chair with a cup of coffee and a good book, smelling the pine trees and enjoying the solitude. It 's a very special place which I hope to come back to many more times in the future. The owner provided great customer service and was very pleasant to work with. I would easily pay twice what they are asking per night to stay in this incredible home.
