Needed to get away with friends and family and Had a great time in a great atmosphere. Thank you
The kids enjoyed the swing set and making s’mores the stamps were more then accommodating and we are very greatful for them. The area was very quite and peaceful.
We were thankful for this lovely home. It provided a supportive and economical location for our growing family to relax and enjoy one another. We have 8 children, two who are now married each with baby, so we were 16 in all and all managed to find a place to sleep. We enjoyed morning sunrises, a heron, the loons, geese and even a candle light service on the dock. We cooked lots of food, played games, watched old movies and enjoyed the lake view. The pool table was a highlight! We were exercise at The Fit Club is South Hill; it was a great gym!
The view was great the size of the house was great, space was not an issues. But when my family and I arrived it was dusty and dank. There was a mildew smell that seemed to linger all week. Cobwebs in all the lamps, in the corners of the walls the kitchen was dusty. It seemed that know one had used the house in a year. Not to mention next door property had a tree removal service that would arrive a 7 in the morning and not until 4 in the afternoon for the first 3 days of our stay. I notified the owner of our disappointments, he did apologize but that’s all he could offer. He said a family had rented out the place at thanksgiving. He might want to reconsider his cleaning crew! It just didn’t seem like anyone had been there to do any type of prep work before my family arrived. What the cleaning for then .......
The house though a bit dated was in great shape and very clean. The dock was wonderful for sun sets and the gang did a little boating that went well. Nicely appointed. Well worth the visit. Only negative - fireplace was in the picture but owner did not want it used. Needs to make that clearer.
We stayed for a week. It was the perfect place to celebrate a 50th birthday with my sister, cousins, nieces and daughter. There was plenty of space for us. We have 2 in college that needed to sign in to their online classes and the wifi worked great. They were able to log in, no problem. Note: correct wifi info is on the bulletin board by the front door, not in the book. The location and setting of the house was beautiful. It was so nice waking up and having coffee of the deck with the beautiful lake views. The dock was a great place to sit and enjoy the view. Beautiful for sunrise and sunsets too. The house was very will stocked with everything we needed in the kitchen. We brought our own soaps, towels and sheets. There were some soaps and kitchen towels for use already there, so that was nice. There were plenty of blankets too. It was also nice to be able to do some laundry. The first few nights were chilly, so it was so nice to have the firepit to use. It was nice sitting by the fire, looking out at the lake. I was concerned about having to take the trash to the dumpsters, but that was super easy. There were 2 locations given in the guest book. Very close and convenient, so no big deal. The Dollar General, a few miles away has lots of food and stuff for a quick shop. There's also a Walmart about 15 miles away, which was great to stock up on food and other things we needed. We had a peaceful relaxing vacation here. I would definitely recommend. Thank you for sharing your home.
Family had a wonderful time in the beautiful surroundings
While the house was more then adequate, there were a lot of steps for older individuals in and outside.
We were two families of four (four adults, two 6-year-olds, one 3-year-old, and a 1-year-old), and we had plenty of space to spread out and relax in the house. The kids loved all the toys, the bunk beds, and the outdoor play area. We went on canoe rides, grilled steaks (on an outstanding Weber Genesis grill), and roasted marshmallows for s'mores in the fire pit. All of the adults had COVID tests before traveling to be safe, and and we brought all the food that we needed for 3 nights. We did not leave the property the entire weekend! Highly recommended for families...the house is only about 1 hour north of Durham, and would also be an easy drive from Raleigh or Chapel Hill. Thanks for opening your house to us!
Beautiful location, plenty of space for our group of 14. Super child friendly with a variety of toys and spaces to play inside and out. We should have thought to bring an extra baby gate as there are a lot of stairs. Kitchen is very well stocked. We found every item we needed except for a cutting board. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
Very great place all of our family enjoyed it!
What a great value for the price and it was perfect for the amount of people we had. The layout was great bathrooms on every floor next to the bedrooms. House was stocked with everything you might need. Communication with the owner was fast and accurate! Bring a 10×10 popup tent for the dock. Beautiful weather Amazing house! We will definitely be back.
Our family had a great couple of days here. The location of this house is awesome, especially if you’re bringing a boat. Everything you need is on site - including of two fridges, a laundry room, a kayak, a fire pit, and a grill. My nephew enjoyed using the toys at the house as well as the play set in the yard. The house is clean but shows normal signs of use given its size and more rustic location. Michael provided all the details in a timely manner - including better directions than what your gps will provide. Plan ahead for taking your trash from the house to the public dumpsters nearby. A trade off for the privacy and views you’ll have at this house. Looking forward to coming back to the lake next summer.
Great place filled all the needs we needed
Very relaxing and enjoyable
The inside was very clean. The outside needs to be power washed. The property guide book is obsolete and needs to be updated with the correct WiFi login information. There was no information regarding where to dispose of trash since the owner requested all trash to be removed. FYI... There is a public waste yard behind the Shell Gas Station located on Hwy 903 near I-85.
Property was very family friendly, toys, books, swing set, sand box were all welcomed sights for parents and the children. Locking gates on the upper deck were perfect for the smaller children. Kitchen well stocked with pots, pans, dishes and the likes, would suggest a cutting board though. Plenty of pillows and blankets to make sure all were comfortable. Alot of stairs, would be the only draw back, to this lovely place.
We had such a great time. The house was spacious and comfortable for our large group and well equipped with everything we could have needed. Can’t wait to go again.
This vacation is what all vacations should be like!! As a family with 10 children-- ranging from older children through young adults -- it is not easy to find a place that appeals to everyone. But between the canoe and kayak, the fishing, the swimming and the pool table, this had it all. Thank you for a wonderful, relaxing, lovely experience!
We usually stay at the beach. We just loved the lake..more peaceful and less traffic.. Hope to come back
We had a family reunion and there was enough space and comfort for all!
We loved this house and it was exactly what we needed. The “neighborhood” was great and so quiet. The community dock was perfect and easy to get in and out of. House sleeps a lot of people which was perfect. Really disappointed we had to bring our own sheets and towels. Only Vrbo or Airbnb I’ve ever had to do that. I know it’s silly, but it would be so easy for the homeowners to stock up on towels and the size sheets they need and would make things more convenient for the visitors. Especially since we pay $100 cleaning fee, I feel like sheets and towels could easily and should be included in that. Otherwise house was very clean. Dock needs a little TLC. Water was higher the day after a storm and our one jetski got a little dock rash on the side because there are nails sticking out under some of the wood and missing a rubber bumper in the one spot. Also some of the lights on the dock are broken and have tiny screws sticking out (which I put my hand on before I realized it). There is also a wasp nest somewhere around the dock which was an issue but could easily be fixed. The refrigerator has a lot of broken shelves and the doors get stuck and have to be forced closed. Overall, I know I mentioned several things that need some attention by the homeowners, but we loved the house. We would come back and stay because it really is a nice place on the main lake with beautiful views. Thanks for letting us spend a weekend at your place.
Our first impression before we even went into the house was the beautiful view of the lake. We loved that the house was so roomy that our family of 17 had plenty of space. The kids loved fishing and swimming and of course making S'mores in the fire pit at night. The cellular service in the area isn't the best but to me, you are there to enjoy the lake not to be on your phone. The only thing which was a little inconvenient was there is no garbage service and you had to take your trash to the dumpsters, We loved our time spent at the lake house and wish we would have booked one more day. No one wanted to leave! If you are looking for a great place to get away you won't be disappointed.
Everything great.would have given 5 stars but having to dump my own garbage a slight no big deal, inconvenience. Thanx for a nice time
Our family of fourteen arrived and were immediately impressed by the view of the lake. The house looked great. It was not the most updated home but worked extreamly well for us. We had fun taking out the two-seater canoe and the one-man kayak (life vest were not included). Other than food, the kitchen has more than enough for large groups. The deck has lots of seating/chairs available. The grill was well kept and great use. The user-friendly guest/reference book was a big help in answering questions we may have had. Cellular service was very bad on the property and on the lake, so be prepared. Wi-Fi came in use but it was only useful in the house or close by. I am assuming we were the first guest of the season/year because the house needed some cleaning. A heavy layer of dust was found on a lot of interior of the house, some trash was found outside, and a few existing damages that I took photos of just in case they were not known by the owner/leaser. I like to disclose some of my concerns but please don't let this discourage you from picking this place. This is about my 6th time renting a vacation home and I would really like to return to this one. There is a place you can rent boats, jet skis, and other watersport crafts about 4 mins away. Whatever you do.. do not rent from Holly. The waters were great for just riding around. There are also two places to eat on the lake which have there own dock to pull into. Overall we enjoyed our stay and recommend it. Like everything, make sure you read all the detailed before you rent. There were a few things that I missed and wish I knew before I came (such as no life vest provided). The location is fairly private with only one neighbor that can be seen. Plenty of parking and a long driveway to the main road. I gave this place 4 stars due to the dustiness. Hope this review helps your decision.
Lots of space. Great view. Highlight of the weekend was catching a catfish on grandaughter’s barbie doll fishing pole. We had a great Thanksgiving.
This home was great for a group of friends looking to get away to someplace peaceful for a weekend. Spacious, well-equipped, great dock for sunbathing and fire pit for s’mores! Quieter part of the lake, which was nice. We’ve talked about possibly coming back to the same house next year.
We loved staying at the lake house. Everything was very pretty and very comfortable. Anyone worried about the stairs ..our three year old went up and down all day without a bit of trouble. Dock was nice size and everyone was able to sit comfortably and swimming was great. The kids caught a lot of nice fish too. . Very quiet part of the lake and we had beautiful sunsets. Thank you Mike we were very pleased.
We had a small family reunion and loved the house. The proximity to the lake and private swimming off the dock was amazing. The boat traffic was minimal and there was plenty of room for all 11 of us in the house. The kids loved the separate living room downstairs (as did the adults!).
Beautiful views from dock, deck, and large gathering area in-house. Great for family gatherings. We caught fish from dock at sunset (perch, sunfish, small-mouth bass, catfish). Deep water for swimming and water sports while family can watch from dock.
The house is rustic, with great lake access and as presented in the pictures. It worked well for three couples with children, plenty of room for everyone. The lake was muddy during our visit due to recent rains, but it didn't stop the kids from swimming. The owner was responsive before and during our visit. Bring your own towels, linens and life jackets was a bit of drag, but we managed. There were dish towels and hand towels, which was appreciated. There are a lot of stairs to the dock, which is typical of the area. All in all, a fun spot for a visit.
The house was perfect for our families to stay at for the High School Bass Fishing tournament this past weekend. The owner was easy to work with and quick to respond to questions during the scheduling process. The house was clean and roomy! It was nice being so close to the marina. Thanks again!
Perfect house and location for our family Thanksgiving. Very well equipped kitchen. Minor plumbing issue that was quickly resolved.
Property is as presented in pictures, lots of space and a great kitchen. Our whole family had a great time.
We have rented this property for the last three years and it has been a perfect stay each time. The owner is super easy to deal with. The house layout is great for housing a crowd. Everything is provided and it is on the main lake, yet not the busy part of the lake so not a lot of boats. The location is easy to get to. We will be back!
We first signed up as having 18 guests then 9 had to back out last minute. Which was for the best because it would have been to cramped. I would not recommend children under the age of 8 due to so many steps. You would have to have someone watching their every move. The play area is open on one corner where a small child could fall in a ditch. Also the walk way to the dock had some missing lights as well as the dock but over all the house was well equipped. And very comfortable. We did not have to contact the owner after we got the instructions on how to get inside. The use of the kayaking was great too. The older grandchildren loved it. The house was very clean. I would recommend this lakehouse to my friends.
Great house and location! Owner is very responsive and easy to work with. 13 of us had a great week with perfect weather for fun at the lake!!
Thank you so much for letting us rent your beautiful property - it was exactly what everyone needed! We had three families (a total of 14 people) and never felt crowded. The house has a very well-stocked kitchen (copper pots, for goodness sake!), beautiful furnishings, and the open kitchen and dining room also worked extremely well with our large group. We used the fire pit one night to make s'mores and enjoy sparklers and to celebrate a 50th birthday - and a surprise engagement! The dock is spacious as well and we were able to easily secure a pontoon boat and two rented jet skis to the dock. The retractable awning on the top deck was also a nice bonus. An absolutely lovely property - thank you for the great memories!
Best water of anywhere I have stayed on the Lake - really really nice. Had area for the kids to play that was more shallow and could dive off the end of the dock with nice deep water over there. House was well equipped with everything we needed. We brought stand up boards and kayaks to play in the water and everyone had a blast. Plenty of sleeping room. It was extremely hot while we were there so the AC had a very hard time keeping up - basement felt great but great room and 3rd floor were very warm. May just need some Freon added to system to help it keep up. BUT as it was the hottest week in years there - can't complain too much. Overall a wonderful place. There are a lot of stairs, so if you have bad knees - just take your time :-). We would absolutely stay there again!
We had a large group the entire week and had such a wonderful time. We kayaked, rented a pontoon, had fires and roasted marshmallows...relaxing trip. We all loved it and we would book this rental again!
Perfect for us. We were a an extended family consisting on one set of grandparents, three grown children with spouses, and five grandchildren among us so far. The set up of bedrooms was great. The location was perfect for us. We brought kids games and such but were happy to find things there. Kitchen was well-stocked. The views from the deck and the wind in the trees were a favorite of many. Great swimming area. The house is a reasonable distance to the water so I felt like I knew what we happening on the deck while down at the dock.
This was our first time at Lake Gaston. The weather could've been better, but we still had a great time. Mike was so helpful in providing driving directions and information about the area. The house was very clean and had plenty of room for everybody. The kids enjoyed the playground and we used the firepit several times to make smores. We loved sitting down on the dock and caught several fish. We would definitely rent this house again!
Will stay again
Beautiful lakefront home. Everything you need for family getaway.
We stayed here for two nights in January so we could get together with family from Virginia and North Carolina. The house is beautiful, clean and very well-equipped. Plenty of beds and seating space for our group of 15. Although temps were in the 40s we went fishing off the dock and took the canoe out on the lake. We really enjoyed using the large outdoor grill and fire pit, and the kids liked the little playground. The pool table was nice also. Michael, the owner, was very friendly and helpful as was the local property manager/housekeeper. We would definitely stay here again. Be advised, there are very few businesses in Bracey so you should bring your groceries, bait and supplies with you. The cottage was a little hard to find, it's best to get there before dark. Overall a wonderful experience.
We had a wonderful time spending the weekend celebrating my parent's 50th wedding anniversary at the lake. The house was the perfect setup for three families. The lake was also a perfect location as we were coming from North Carolina and Virginia. The kids ranged from 5-16 and all had a great time. We brought our boat with us and found that the community boat ramp, which is only a couple of houses down, was extremely convenient. (There is also an area at the top of the driveway to park the boat trailer which was nice.) We also used Holly Grove Marina to gas up the boat, again very convenient. We appreciated the use of the owner's kayak. We had perfect weather and enjoyed boating, kayaking, and paddle boarding without much lake traffic at all. This was our first visit to Lake Gaston and we will definitely return. The owner, Mike, was extremely easy to work with and quick to respond to any questions we had. As another reviewer mentioned, a trash service would be nice (if it is offered in that area).....we just had to remember to take our bagged trash with us when we left. The community trash dumpster was close to the I85 ramp so pretty easy to drop off on our way out of town. Thank you again for allowing us to rent your lovely lake home!
We rented this house for an office retreat. It was absolutely perfect. The owner worked with our needs. The house was clean and neat. It had everything that we needed. Would highly recommend it.
Our family (7 adults and 8 children) had a wonderful time at this Lake Gaston waterfront home! There is tons of room for everyone and the house is stocked with every kitchen item you need. He views are gorgeous- even from inside the home and we definitely spent most of our time on the dock. So many memories were made! Not much to complain about... But some improvements that would be nice (but not necessary) would be a replacement head for shower in the lowest level, a garbage disposal to use, and a trash removal service. Other than that- loved it and would highly recommend it to friends and family! Thank you!
The lake house was perfect for our 3 families. Each family had it's own level and bath. My wife and I took the master suite our daughters and families each took a level. Plenty of dining area. The deck was great with the retractable awning. The dock was also great for swimming and fishing. We rented a boat for 5 days. The lake is beautiful and clean. The grandkids 18 thru 12 voted, the lake vacation was better than a beach vacation. The adults also agree Russ & Helen and Family Pittsburgh, PA
Our large family thoroughly enjoyed staying at this wonderful home for a week in July. We spent every afternoon swimming in the lake and saved our evenings for conversation on the dock. The kayak and canoe are in great condition and we rarely saw them at the dock because they were always being used! The bedrooms are well designed for dividing up families with children from those without. Having the second refrigerator and laundry on the lowest floor was great for those that buy a lot of groceries upon arrival. There is absolutely nothing to do in Bracey, so extensive grocery shopping, entertainment and restaurants are all a 10-15 minute drive away to South Hill. The Dollar General is about 5 minutes away from the house for miscellaneous things. If you're looking for an escape of the busy lifestyle, this is your place. If you love water activities, you'll love it! Don't expect to find sidewalks or flat neighborhoods to walk around. The neighbors were very friendly, treating us to a trip on their pontoon boat and pulling us on their dual-tube by jet-skis! Overall, our family of 18 had a great week and we enjoyed spending time together at this beautiful home!
Very nice home situated on a quiet area of the lake. Neighboring home on the right was close but did not present a problem. We were able to cook meals for seven people without difficulty. Appliances all worked well. The home was clean. The basement level rec room allowed separation and the pool table was fun. Beds were comfortable. Dock area was great -easy to dock rented pontoon boat and ski-jets. However the home was a good 30-45 minutes away from rental marina. The area of the lake where the home is located was much quieter than the entire lake and we enjoyed that. We would definitely rent this property again and would recommend it to family and friends. The listing description was accurate and instructions for operating items within the house were satisfactory.
Having never been to Lake Gaston before, we did not know what to expect. Very happy with the house. Roomy enough for 4 families + children. The lake was right in the back yard. Nice dock, access to the house's canoes. The lake was quiet enough to allow our children to play in the water that was secluded by the dock. The house's kitchen was small but fully stocked, pots, pans, bowls, cups, cooking utensils... Only lacking in small spoons for eating cereal in the mornings. We did not use local restaurants as we were in town for an extended family gathering and ate most of our meals at their house. But the house is close enough for grocery shopping at a Food Lion. House was clean and well kept. Very happy with our stay, would definitely book again if back in the area.
My family along with another family rentes this home for NYE 2015. This home was a very spacious and relaxing site. Enjoyed it and would stay again.
House was fantastic, comfy, phenomenal views, boats to use (kayak and canoe) nice backyard lake view! We sat around the firepit and roasted marshmallows all night. Great bedrooms, fun pool table, wifi and nice TVs all setup with cable tv and dvd players. The marina is right up the street and we rented a nifty pontoon from the super nice guy there ag Holly Marina. All in all great memories!
It is a beautiful home with great lake views. Our only complaint was the lack of a closet or any sort of clothes rack in one of the bedrooms.
Website was accurate is ALL respects. Great house for kids and adults. Fire pit on the lower deck was very nice for just setting around the fire and solving All of the world's problems. Beds were very comfortable. Having the two floors made it nice for quite activities on one floor and not so quite activities on another floor. Refrigerator on the ground floor in the basement was very convenient for keeping beer, water, and soda cold, without having to fill coolers with ice. Overall all, great place to spend a week on the lake.
This property was everything that was advertised. We were more than pleased with everything. Wonderful views of the lake, easy access to the boat dock, plenty of room in the house, good communication with the owner. We rented a pontoon boat from the Holly Grove Marina which was not far away. Thank you for our wonderful stay. We loved it.
We had a great time. The three levels in the house are ideal for three families. Kids had a ball diving off the dock and boating on the canoe and kayak. Fishing was fun, too. The pool table came in handy as well as the three tv's. On the negative side, the air conditioning doesn't keep up with the summer heat and the kitchen could be bigger, but we plan to go back next year.
Our two families and parents come together every year for a family vacation usually in the Outer Banks. This year we decided to try something different and couldn't have stumbled upon a better home and lake location. The house is everything the website promises and Lake Gaston is beautiful, clean and warm. There isn't much to do in the area, but we rented a pontoon for three days, explore the lake, fished, swam, and enjoyed the sunsets - next time we will get the boat for the week. This is a great place to kick back, relax and enjoy the family, fun, and sun.
Great family weekend away in Bracey. House is as advertised - lots of room for our family of 4. Dock was really nice, and we saw bald eagles over the lake a couple mornings. Very quiet with limited boat traffic in April. Kitchen and utilities all in order. Rented a pontoon boat from Holly Grove Marina just down the road - well worth it to explore the lake. Dining and entertainment options are limited - definitely a place to stay at home and relax by the lake.
My Family stayed here for Christmas. There was 15 of us and there was a lot of room for us all. The place had very thing we needed. It was great.
We chose to stay at this lovely lake home for our Thanksgiving holiday. The house was immaculate and It Had a great kitchen to cook our Thanksgiving dinner. We had 7 adults and 4 children and still had room to sleep more!! The views from the house were stunning and since we brought our boat the dock was a great addition!! I would recommend this house to anyone for a family vacation. The owner is very nice and easy to work with. We will definitely stay there again!!
My husband and I stayed for a weekend away from the kids. The homeowner was extremely detailed in all information and we loved the house. It is a beautiful, peaceful location. Hope to be back next summer with the kids!
Our four day stay at the house was the highlight of a two week swing through MD, VA and NC. For two people, the house is a little large but the main floor and master are comfortable and cozy. Except for the laundry, we really did not venture much into the lower level. Everything functioned well. We ate in each evening and the kitchen was well equipped to handle just about any recipe. In late Oct. the lake is very quiet thus spending an hour or so each evening on the dock was pleasant. We had no problems of any sort with the stay and if we return to the Lake Gaston area (we hail from the West Coast) this house is certainly the place we will pick.
Perfect vacation home!!! Beautiful home on the main lake but wasn't crowded at all! The house had everything we needed and more. We had 18 people and there was plenty of room. The firepit was perfect for s'mores and ghost stories!! We will be back next year
We stayed in this wonderful home for a long weekend, my oldest son came down from Maryland and we came up from the Charlotte area. It was the perfect break almost exactly inbetween us. The home is warm and cozy. The kitchen has everything in it that you could possibly need for a long weekend. We played games, watched college football, fished and cooked. It was the perfect long weekend and it would be perfect for families large and small especially with children.
Our larger family, children and grandchildren had plenty of room to spread out. This is our 5th Labor Day trip and the accommodations fit us better than anywhere else we have stayed. Everything was well cared for and the short walk down to the water was perfect. We had a lovely time and would suggest this property to anyone who is looking to go to Lake Gaston. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook and the refrigerator was nice and large. We also rented a boat and the drive to and from the marina by boat was a reasonable distance. We had a lovely time! Just loved the place and hope to get to go back.
Our large family tries to get together every year for vacation, mainly staying in the New England area. This year we decided to venture south and we were not disappointed. This is a beautiful home; well furnished, clean and very comfortable. We spent most of our time in the water, rented a jet ski for the day at a nearby marina, cooked s'mores over the firepit, bbq'd, and had an overall wonderful time. Thank you Michael and Rebecca for all the special touches you have provided in this home.
