We stayed in May and found it to be a nice place to stay during warmer weather, as it has a lovely balcony seating area and it is air conditioned. The place is a 7-minute downhill walk from the edge of downtown Ashland. Despite its immediate proximity to the Minute Market, there is little noise, and it's easy to face away from the market when you're on the balcony. We also liked the fact that this place has blinds that are dark enough to let you sleep in--unlike many VRBOs in Ashland. The Juliet part is pretty much as described and as shown in photos (it does not have a washer/dryer or a dishwasher, FYI). Everything worked fine and was in good order. We did find the Romeo suite, that comes with it, to be less inviting--quite dark and generally airless, but it does have all that a single visitor needs. I would certainly consider staying here again.
Lovely property. Took a day or two to get used to slanted ceiling around the bed on the 2nd floor. Reasonably equipped for cooking and staying in, which we did for breakfast and two of four dinners.
Val is great! We were coming in late on a Thursday night, which she was able to accommodate. She greeted us with a friendly attitude. Gave us the full tour and answered any questions we had before we asked. Location was perfect. Quick walk and right into the downtown plaza area. The Mini Mart next door was a plus. Cottages had a great charm to them. Plenty of space, decorations/furniture was nice and everything we may have needed was provided. We will definitely use the space again.
Larger of our two apartments (Juliet) was better than advertised and both properties were presented aty 4-star hotel level. Owner was welcoming and informative. I hope to return next year.
Romeo and Juliet was perfect for our family of four, because our daughters had their own space and ability to sleep-in downstairs. The upstairs had ample indoor and outdoor living space, with seating and great views of the hills across the valley.
The upstairs and downstairs apartments were beautifully appointed with many details attended to. Upstairs was very spacious; downstairs was tight. Upstairs was comfortable and nicely supplied for cooking breakfasts and a few dinners with an adjoining living space for visiting. We are two couples who like to hang out together, cook, and share meals, so this split level arrangement was a bit inconvenient, but we made it work. Tolerance is needed to filter noise generated by the Minute Mart across the street and their early morning deliveries by big trucks idling with generators running. Aside from the distractions noted above, we would return to Romeo and Juliet. The owner Val was very friendly and helpful.
Excellent accommodations, convenient to downtown, on-site owner.
Returning for our second visit. Perfect accommodation and very clean.
Ashland Guest Cottages provides comfortable accommodations from which to explore Ashland and surrounding communities. Within walking distance to the Theater District, restaurants and shops or a very short drive. The owner Val is very friendly and helpful plus the rental fee is moderate and fair. And to me that makes this rental a bargain!
We stayed in Juliet which is the upstairs unit. It was great - spacious, light filled and though we didn't use the deck very much it would clearly be wonderful in good weather. The down stares unit, Romeo, is comfortable, though much smaller. Our party spent most of our time together in Juliet which was perfect for meals and hanging.out. The only downside is that the apartments are completely separate, which meant that it didn't feel quite like we were sharing a single space. Val, the host, is the real gem of this property. She was very professional and pleasant to work with and went out of her way to make our stay enjoyable.
Our time, with friends, at the Romeo and Juliet home was great. The home allows the perfect place for 2 couples to stay while in Ashland. There is both privacy and a place to get together to enjoy meals, wine, time together. It is walking distance to the theaters and downtown. We even were able to partake of fresh raspberries from the garden! Val is the perfect hostess. Thank you!!
A wonderful place to stay whilst watching some excellent theater. Val is a hoot (!)- and very responsive to any and all questions or concerns.
I thoroughly enjoyed my week at the Romeo and Juliet component of Ashland Guest Cottages. It is the first place I will check for availability when traveling to Ashland in the future! The setup is great for people who know each other well— Romeo’s bedroom is open to the sitting area. My colleague and I who stayed there worked this out well. We barely heard our colleagues in the upstairs Juliet unit. I was thrilled with deck of the Juliet property and enjoyed the mountain view and sunrise each morning from there with the darling fountain trickling below. The cottage is within an easy walk of downtown and the plays. The mini mart across the street also makes this a convenient location, especially when parking off street on the first day and ignoring my car for the entire week! Though I am a light sleeper, and initially worried about the proximity to Siskyou Blvd., it was not a problem to be so close to a major road, trash day being the exception. Val, the innkeeper is welcoming and generous. I can’t wait to have new dates in hand and go back to this lovely little find!
We loved this rental. Close to theater, restaurants and shopping. Enough space to hang out and have meals inside or on the deck. Quiet and comfortable. Val available and helpful. We would definitely stay here again!
Great space for 2 couples. Very comfortable. Furnished with everything we needed. Val greeted us with a lovely bottle of wine and lots of jnfo about Ashland dining and things to do. Location was very convenient for walking to the shows and exploring the town. Would stay here again!
This charming cottage property uses space very effectively. It worked well for my wife and I and another couple because it really is two separate living quarters, each with its own bed, bath, and kitchen facility. The more spacious upstairs apartment provides very comfortable common areas, both inside and out. The living room/dining area/kitchen is an enjoyable place to relax and visit, and the outdoor deck seating affords pleasant tree-top, shaded views of the neighborhood and distant hillside pastures. Each is nicely decorated and well-appointed. There is dedicated parking for one vehicle, but finding a spot nearby for the second was never an issue. It is only a 10-15 minute walk to theatre, restaurants, and shops. Our communications with Val were consistently effective and cordial. It proved to be a really positive home base for a delightful weekend. Would certainly like to revisit!
AGC had updated cottages and comfortable beds - everything clean and in good working order. Val did a nice job making us feel welcome and even rounded up a pot for us to make soup in.
This was a fun place to stay. Very convenient to all of Ashland. A unique property we would stay in again.
Arriving at Romeo and Juliet; we were greeted by Val; she's dynamic, fun and even tho she lives onsite; not at all intrusive. Her recommendations for wineries and restaurants were right on point. The apartment was comfortable, welcoming and we enjoyed the eclectic style. We'll be back next year.
Our friendly host was most helpful in planning a wine country trip. We also enjoyed that the theatres were within walking distance. We'll return for sure!
We all loved it. Some suggestions: a handbook, can be small, of things to note about the units. Also, a short railing or posts to hold onto on the lower level steps, and a railing on the upper have of the stairs, like the one on the first half.
VAL is a great host and the apt was everything we wanted.
Val was super helpful and accommodating! Our family loved staying in Romeo & Juliet - great set-up and location!
We were three adults and got one upstairs unit and one down. They were super clean and nicely decorated. The downstairs was small but functional. It was perfect with the upstairs which is beautiful, two very big rooms, bedroom and living/dinning/kitchen and a deck. We spent every evening out there recounting days events. Val was there to great us and is super nice and fabulous to deal with. We will definitely stay there again.
Very well appointed property owner was extremely helpful & pleasant to deal with.
This is a great place to stay in Ashland - far enough away to count for exercise, but still close enough to be easily walkable even if you are in a hurry. The upstairs is just delightful and the deck has a 180 view over the valley. The downstairs is small, so if you have two families, one should pay less for that space. We cook a lot and the upstairs kitchen is up to par, but again, the downstairs is more of a snack area. We would come back any time.
We stayed here with another couple for the Shakespeare plays. We stayed upstairs (Juliet) while the other couple was downstairs (Romeo). The upstairs was really interesting with lots of angles, light, spacious areas and unusual areas. Downstairs was much smaller, with little light. If you treat Romeo as a bedroom only, the dual spaces worked. The property wasn't really within walking distance for us, but it rained all weekend and we drove. Parking wasn't really a problem in April. Val, our hostess, was outstanding. We even had to interrupt her late at night because of our misadventure with the door lock, and she was so very gracious. We really enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it to anyone.
Great decor, layout, view, location. Perfect
This rental is a few short blocks from downtown and the OSF. We rented both the upstairs and downstairs units. Both were clean and comfortable, but the upstairs unit is fabulous! High end but cozy with everything we needed. Excellent property!
We just finished a six night stay at Romeo and Juliet, sharing the downstairs bedroom suite with another couple while we had the upstairs for shared meals, conversation and wine hour. The beds are comfortable and the decorations and furnishings are tastefully and artfully done. We can't say enough good things about Val. She is friendly, attended to our every need, and even helped us carry some bags upstairs. We made use of the the convenient mini mart across the street and walked into town several days until the rain came. We definitely look forward to staying here again.
We had two couples in our group. The upstairs was a great gathering spot with the downstairs being a smaller suite. Val, the owner, greeted us and showed us around. She was easy to contact throughout the reservation process. We saw 4 plays and took a day trip to Crater Lake and the Rogue River Gorge. It worked well for us!
Valerie has done a wonderful job of remodeling this double unit so two couples can stay comfortably. This is the second time we've stayed at the Romeo and Juliet accommodation. We would definitely return should the need for two bedrooms arise. I love that both units have kitchen facilities even though we tend not to cook when we visit. The upper unit has a large living area for both couples to gather together. The landscaping is beginning to mature. It is very pleasant to sit on the porch off the upstairs unit, have a beverage and look out at the beautiful east side of the valley and hills.
Our stay was fabulous! Beautiful and tastefully decorated. The deck was the best, nice views and so quiet. Val is a great host; she even left us a bottle of wine. Highly recommend!
Val has obviously spent a lot of money getting the place just-so, and it resulted in a very pleasant stay. No problems...
This townhouse arrangement was the perfect getaway for two older adult couples. The place was spotless and beautifully appointed and our hostess, Val, was a pleasure to work with. We will definitely return!
We felt very taken care of at the Romeo and Juliet Cottages; our friends stayed downstairs, and joined us for breakfast one day, and for wine on the upstairs deck with its wonderful view. The cottages were very clean, beds and linens were very good quality and the kitchen was set up with good wares so we could enjoy some meals at home as well as enjoying going out. It's always a great pleasure to meet our friends in Ashland in the early spring and see plays and catch up on our lives, and this year was wonderful. We'd like to thank Val for her gracious welcome and her willingness to make sure we were set-up to be comfortable and have a great time.
We were really pleased - everything was clean and well-organized, little details thought of. Very comfortable. We especially liked the roomy decks so we could be outside.
Great, well stocked. Very clean, nicely decorated and very comfortable. Nice walk to downtown. Have usually stayed in hotels when visiting Ashland, but will definitely like to stay there during our annual visits from now on. Val very helpful and friendly on our arrival.
Val was a great communicator from the very start. When I arrived she was right there with a big hug, a great smile and very genuine warm welcome. She made me feel right at home. The trip was a birthday celebration for both myself and my friend. We get together each year for the event. Val had a birthday card, and two balloons tied to a 1/2 bottle of delicious Prosecco. So thoughtful and that extra touch that means so much. The Romeo and Juliet cottage was perfect for my friend and I. We each had out own unit, but were accessible to each other by outside stairs. Each unit was beautifully furnished with lovely touches. Very comfy beds. We were attending the Shakespeare Festival and Val's place is just a nice walk to downtown to the festival and all the shops and restaurants. Perfect location. Plenty of parking and quiet at night. I would highly recommend Val and her comfy, cozy cottage complex. In fact we have already booked again for next year - 6 nights this time!
We loved Val's Romeo & Juliet cottage. She's done an amazing job of decorating and making the place cozy and inviting. We will definitely stay there again on our next visit to Ashland. And Val is friendly and welcoming - a lovely person!
This is a very comfortable place to stay. It is updated and cute. We walked to the coffee shops in down town. We also drove five minutes to a great hiking spot. I would definitely stay here again!
I am a frequent visitor at Ashland Guest Cottages. The accommodations are wonderful and it's a pleasure knowing that I'll always have a great stay. The location is the best because I can walk to the Shakespeare festival and a large number of dining options. I would gladly recommend AGC to anyone wanting to visit the area.
The Ashland Guest Cottages are beautiful. Val has put her talents to work once again to create a fabulous place for guests to come and visit Ashland. The walk to downtown is perfect. No need to drive anywhere once you get to the Guest Cottages. We stayed in February and had a great time. Val Bachmayer is an excellent hostess and if you have never been to Ashland, Val knowns all the fun stuff going on. You should make your reservations now for best dates.
Came into town for Thanksgiving to see friends. Relaxing place to stay between visits and close to downtown. Owner had great tips for places to visit (loved the winery tastings in Jacksonville!). Can't wait to visit in the warmer weather!
We stayed here and found it comfy and very quiet. Loved the entire experience, priced right and made our stay so nice. Had everything we needed, refrigerator, cooking, tv's, ect. Loved it will stay again and I recommend it to anyone coming to Ashland.
The owner has put every bit of thought into these wonderful cottages. They are perfectly located, decorated, outfitted, and comfy. We could not have been happier with our stay. The location was perfect. We parked our car and only took it to go check out the wineries. We will be back again and again. LOVED it...and the host! She's a gem.
