A Vacation Like No Other - You Will Not Want to Leave!

Manchioneal, Portland

Darlingford Farm is nestled between the beautiful Caribbean Sea and the majestic Blue Mountains and is known for its spectacular views and tropical breezes. This 4 bed 2 bath home has captured the hearts of all those who have stayed here and promises to be a vacation like no other.

For a family vacation, a romantic get away, or even a solo adventure, this property offers you peace and tranquility for when you want to relax and unwind as well as lots of exciting destinations for when you want to explore the Parish and meet our people.

Arriving at Darlingford Farm for the first time will be a memorable experience. As you meander past our distinctive white fence, down our slightly long driveway, and past our grazing horses, you will see for the first time your 'home away from home'. Our farmhouse is wooden and very spacious with elegantly casual decor that captures the splendor of old Jamaican architecture. The beauty found in this home is unique and every room offers something different.

* The living room is large and very comfortable with soft tones and lots of light. Great for an evening drink before dinner and catching up about your day or enjoying a movie before bed.

* The dining room which seats eight has a more traditional 'greathouse' feel with antique furniture and ambiance. This is a charming space to enjoy a delicious dinner prepared by Hopeton.

* The front verandah is an airy space with shuttered windows that feels like it was built specifically to greet the morning and the beauty of the mountains. This is only made better by also having a freshly brewed cup of Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee in hand.

* The large back verandah with its unforgettable view, sound of the crashing waves, and constant breeze is perfect for a relaxed lunch and casual lounging during the day.

* And at dusk the terrace below the almond tree is where spectacular sunsets can be seen while enjoying a glass of wine and wondering if you have ever seen something quite this magical before!

The bedrooms at Darlingford Farm are all quite large with high ceilings and fans. Two of the bedrooms have king-sized beds, one bedroom has a queen-sized bed, and the final bedroom has two single-beds. The master bedroom has an en-suite bathroom while the other three bedrooms share a large hall bathroom with double sinks.

Darlingford Farm welcomes you!

Darlingford Farm is a charming authentic farmhouse that is a hidden true gem. It is decorated mostly by antique furniture and has 2 spacious bathrooms that look like they were redone recently in keeping with the charm of the farmhouse. The farm grounds are gorgeous (like a story book) and the horses are a treat to see. As a family of 8, the Verandah overlooking the sea was our hub where we had ample space complimented by a stunning sea view, the sound of the waves and a lovely breeze. Taking a nap on the couch on the verandah feels therapeutic. There are 2 bedrooms that are alongside the verandah, one with a door that leads out. The kitchen is also adjoining the verandah which makes it quite convenient for anything you need. A place can beautiful (Darlingford does check that box), however, it is the people that make your stay truly special and Hopeton (Chef) & Sandra (Housekeeper) were fabulous! They truly delivered. Hopeton made us feel right at home as soon as we arrived with his warm greeting. Not only did he tantalize our taste buds, he also went above and beyond to make sure that we had everything that we need. There were a few occasions where it was like he literally read our minds and offered before we could even ask! He deserves and entire chapter. As a matter of fact, his cooking so amazing, he should write his own cookbook! Everything he made was a hit with my group of picky eaters. His tomato sauce that he did from scratch with ingredients from his garden to go with some pasta deserves a gold medal. Chatting with him and hearing is philosophical views was a treat in itself. When it was time to go out for an excursion the 14-year-old in our group said, “do we have to leave?” We all felt the same way, but we figured it would be a shame to be in Portland and not check out Reach Falls, which was about 15-20 minutes’ drive way from Darlingford. We did not want to say goodbye, we preferred to say soon come back. Look forward to seeing Hopeton, Sandra & the darling Darlingford Farm again soon. Also, a big thank you to Bronwen who made our booking process seamless and kindly helped us to get everything organized. We truly appreciate you sharing your little piece of paradise with us.

Our family of 5 had an amazing time at this gorgeous farmhouse overlooking the ocean. Each day we relaxed on the veranda to hear he birds and horses or the back deck to hear the ocean waves rolling in. The best part of our experience was talking to Hopie, Sandra and Reddy (sp?). We felt so welcome and Hopie’s food was so wonderfully delicious! My husband is Jamaican and a chef so we have discerning palettes and was beyond impressed. I highly recommend a car as getting around could be very cumbersome; home is far from stores or things to do. If you want quiet and the sea, this is the place to be.

Our stay at the Darlingford farm was a dream come true. The house is as comfortable as it is beautiful. Sandra and Hopeton were great hosts. They took care of us like family. The view from porch where we ate breakfast lunch and dinner was breathtaking. Hopeton is a top rank chef. The closeness to frenchman's cove and reach falls made it very convenient. We give it our highest recommendation.

Tranquil, peaceful, breath taking views..that's Darlingford Farm. We had a wonderful time! It was just what we needed to relax and spend time together playing games and enjoying great food courtesy of Hopeton. The house is beautiful with all the elegance and charm of the period it was built in (early 1900s) yet very clean and well maintained. The bedrooms are comfortable, the bathrooms were recently renovated and are very spacious. The staff made us feel like family and went above and beyond. Hopeton made us some coconut drops as a surprise parting gift - I was so touched. The owner was very responsive and gracious especially considering how late we booked. It was a good experience booking with her and homeaway. We had a great time, I really did not want to leave, so I will definitely go back.

If you are planning to visit the East shores of Jamaica this is where you should stay! Hopie (the outstanding cook at the farm) is a great person, always has a smile and cooks the most delicious food. Everyday we enjoyed different Jamaican recipes. The farm house is very spacious with 15foot ceilings. The dinning table on the outside varanda is one of the most pleasant places I have ever enjoyed a meal. Fantastic breeze and full views of the Caribbean ocean. The two bathrooms are spacious and recently renovated. The house has several board games - we played Clue nearly every evening. Be paciente with the roads and Jamaican traffic but that’s part of the experience. The farm is only 45min from famous Frenchman’s Cove. Come and enjoy a very beautiful and relaxing experience in Jamaica at the 1912 farmhouse!

This property is a most wonderful place to enjoy Portland, Jamaica. Portland is like no other parish on the island. Staying at Darlingford Farm allows one to get to better know the area and its people. The home is steeped in local history and you feel in when stay there. After returning home from our second stay we once again realize how grateful we are to have stayed. It's truly like no other. A stay at Darlingford will create memories that will surely last a lifetime.

As frequent homeaway users we appreciate detailed reviews so I will try to be as honest and detailed as possible. I wish I could give 5 stars alone to Hopeton the cook. He was truly a blessing. He got all the groceries on my list and cooked our specific meals as requested. He is a fabulous cook! He is what made this home experience so memorable. On another note, the house itself is old but I don't think old has to mean dirty. The bathrooms were nicely remodeled but the bedrooms were not clean. The beautiful antique furniture was very dusty and the ceiling fans were filthy! The veranda is definitely the highlight of this home. The views are breathtaking. I felt the house was dirty for my taste so we spent most of our time, while home, on the veranda. If you're looking for a totally private experience be aware that construction workers and helpers are very present around the grounds and in the kitchen. One such individual would come out on the veranda while we were enjoying conversation and the scenery and just linger looking at the view. It was a little awkward. We are dog lovers but just be aware there are several dogs on the property. Even with prior driver arrangements having been confirmed for our stay we still encountered transportation issues upon arrival. Our driver showed up at the airport in a dilapidated, unsafe vehicle. The tires were bald, seats were torn and no air conditioning. We had to make other arrangements on the spot to get to the house. Apparently their vehicle was being serviced. Every day was a little stressful not knowing which car or driver we were going to have. Though it worked out ok, it wasn't the smooth experience we expected given our prearrangement. Again we cannot say enough about Hopeton the cook who treated us so nicely and who's cooking could rival any chef!!

    Amazing place to stay.

There is just so much to say about my 35th Birthday Retreat at Darlingford Farm. First off, the staff is truly a magical compliment to this quaint and lusciously green farm house. Our Driver, who soon became our friend, was wonderful with helping us coordinate visits to the various attractions and activities our group wanted to explore. All of his recommendations were wonderful for our group. The Chef, who is filled with pure vibes is simply a master with preparing tasty foods straight from the earth, he deliciously prepared for our plates. Lastly, our housekeeper was such a delight and really made our stay even more pleasant and comfortable. In terms of the property - it is nestled overlooking a beautiful bay front just beyond my bedroom window. The dining area and porch is spacious, yet intimate for playing cards & dominoes, yoga, working out, or simply lounging. Each time I would retreat to my room, the sounds of the ocean and birds would effortlessly sing me to sleep. That would be marked as some of the best sleep I have had in probably my life or as far back as I can remember. It was a refreshing and renewing experience because I returned back home and to work still feeling the tranquility of Darlingford Farm. Oh - the horses and caretaker were also a wonderful bonus, as I love horses. Guests are welcome to have a ride if they wish, or they can simply interact with the horses in passing. The best for last - Tigres who accompanied the first one(s) up to early morning walks and runs. She would escort us through the roads and byways of Manchioneal, Portland. Overall, I could not have picked a more ideal place to share my 35th birthday with my friends I have known since childhood. It was a perfect sum of tranquility, beauty and open spaces, combines with shopping, waterfalls, jerk & local cuisines, night life (dancing), and more. One thing I will note is that you will have to drive to the attractions and shopping areas. This property is perfect for those who really desire to get away and unplug (even thought WiFi is available - no one has to know), while having an intimate setting. Let's just say whenever life starts to get at me, I know the ideal place to retreat; Darlingford Farm and would recommend it for couples, families, girls or guys week or weekend get-a-ways.

    Pure paradise!

The house, the view and Hopeton who cooked the most wonderful meals were all amazing . We miss Hopie! Also Sandra who kept the house looking lovely . If you're looking for a traditional Jamaican experience-off the grid, back in time-this is the place to go. For swimming, we recommend Winifred Beach & don't miss Reach Falls. Thankyou for a truly memorable stay!

Our family recently spent 4 nights at Darlingford Farm and were terribly sad to leave when the time came. The property is stunningly beautiful. The home is casual and the setting relaxing, with nice comfortable seating throughout, especially on the veranda. The staff (Hopeton, Sandra, Pauline and Winston) was just as described by other reviewers...friendly, welcoming, and happy to serve! We absolutely loved Hopeton and were wowed constantly by his culinary skills. He went out of his way to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. In fact, even surprised us multiple times with appetizers and snacks (like plantain chips fried in coconut oil) that we did not ask him to handle. Each time was a welcome and pleasant treat. Also, Bronwen, the owner, was very helpful, honest and responsive while we planned our trip. I can't say enough good things about this place. It was our very first VRBO, and Darlingford Farm has set the standard.

I just spent a week on Darlingford Farm with my husband and 2 children (11 year old daughter & 6 year old son). I can sum it up with my son's departing comment. "I want to live here!" He said this after a rainy week with no internet or cable. Darlingford the place is magical. A true grand home with the most beautiful landscape ever. Comfy beds, and a spotless home perched on a hill overlooking the sea. It is remote which to me is why it is still so special. Portland is a lovely untouched part of Jamaica. If you are looking for the all inclusive party Jamaica you are in the wrong part of the country. In Portland the mountains meet the sea and the vegetation is lush and gorgeous. I loved looking out and seeing the pony in the driveway in the morning waiting for Winston to come with feed. My son loved the gaggle of dogs that we're happy to be his playmates. I can't say enough good about this home. Darlingford the people. The owner is lovely and helpful even from afar. But, Hopeton is the gem of Darlingford. He was so personable and has such a lovely spirit. He made us feel very welcome. We immediately liked him and then we tasted his cooking...he is a self taught master of flavor. Each meal was better than the last. Beautifully prepared and presented. Sandra, the housekeeper is also lovely and made us very comfy. And last but not least, our guide, Frederick, did a great job helping us get to know Portland, even in some pretty rainy conditions. We love Darlingford Farm and hope to return.

Darlingford must surely be one of the most beautiful places on earth. Hopie and Sandra were excellent hosts. Hopie is an amazing chef....cooking up perfectly presented Jamaican food - steam fish, ackee, callaloo and best of all stewed guava in coconut cream. The farm feels like a real place - not plastic package and the sea air and portland lushness are rejuventating for stressed out urbanites. Give thanks and respect to all the hands and hearts who make this place possible.

Our week stay at Darlingford Farm was a magical experience. The beauty of its surroundings, all the history and the friendliness and kindness of the staff was outstanding. The house was roomy and comfortable with nice ventilation and cross breezes. Hopeton is an awesome chef and a wonderful person. He made us hearty Jamaican breakfast and delicious dinners every day of our stay. The animals around the farm were very pleasing. Five well-behaved and friendly dogs, five beautiful puppies, the horses, chickens and a rabbit, all complimented the beauty of this place. There were five in our group and we all felt the same way. We would recommend this property for people that can appreciate tranquility and love nature. The Portland area is very lush in vegetation with many places to see for example Reach Falls, Blue Mountains and beaches very close to Darlingford Farm. Also the local people were very helpful and friendly. WHAT A BEAUTIFUL PLACE. Can't wait to go back. Luis and Kathi.

I can't say enough about what a wonderful stay we had. I'm almost reluctant to write because I'm worried that the word will get out. The staff was exceptional and the owner Bronwen Jones was delightful to work with and very accommodating. The history of the family and the property is amazing and we felt literally honored to be guests. It was clean, bright, cheerful and welcoming. Everything just as advertised. It's just a beautiful place to be. Portland is very special. Unlike many Caribbean Islands it's culture is vibrant and the people are warm, sincere and welcoming. There are a multitude of things to do locally and there was nothing like coming back to relax at home in the evenings. Go visit... but please don't tell too many people about this hidden gem. : ) I hope they don't change a thing... but I would have loved if there had been a small in ground pool on the property. Perhaps one day they'll make that addition. The ocean is pretty nice though! Darlingford Farm was just amazing! That's really all that needs to be said ~

Everything the previous 2 reviews say is true plus so much more. Location is central to great beaches, local bars, cookshops, and 360-degree natural beauty. We initially planned on rafting down the Rio Grande, seeing Falls Reach, and other things found in our Rough Guide. But by just going with the flow and following our curiosities instead, we had a more unique experience--we found amazing hidden beaches that didn't have a single person on it, and met some cool locals who hung out w/ us and ate Jamaican food not found in any restaurant. Our stay was very comfortable and relaxing. The house is clean, spacious, and has an interesting history. Bed was firm and we always overslept. There are bugs flying around, but this is anywhere on any island. Mostly moths at night, but it didn't bother us. Thankfully, we didn't encounter mosquitos on the property. Hopeton's cooking is five-star and he's full of wisdom to share! We love it here and can't wait to come back with our family.
