What an excellent experience. We booked this to host my family for a long weekend while attending a wedding in nearby Berryville. The house was perfect with various arrangements of beds in the many rooms. We loved all the authentic decorations and the spacious rooms. The huge dining table fit everyone and was the scene of many fun meals. Since all our kids are now adults it was so great to be all together for once. And the owner was a gem with suggestions for places to go and things to see. We may have to go back again because there is more there we want to do.

This is a beautiful property with plenty of space to gather, eat, relax and sleep. We were 8, but there are enough beds for 10. Inside there are 2 large living areas, a large dining room with a table that seats 10+, a kitchen well stocked with dishes and cooking utensils and a breakfast nook that is filled with sunlight most of the day, but especially in the morning. Outside there is a fenced in back area with a deck and more seating. The front has a wrap around porch perfect for sitting at any time of day. The house is decorated beautifully with so many things to look at and is so comfortable it’s almost hard to leave, but it is located in an area with plenty to do. It is about 30 minutes from the north end of Shenandoah National Park and is a good home base for any of the surrounding sites. The owner responded promptly to all questions/issues both before and during our stay. She lives and has a working farm on the property, but is not intrusive. Ask her about getting eggs and honey from her farm. She will have them waiting for you when you arrive!

This is an amazing property so close to DC. The farmhouse is really charming and huge. The pictures really don't do it justice. Each room is finely decorated and comfortable, and views were beautiful. Our dogs loved the fenced in yard. Very nice space for a large family gathering. The chickens were lovely, and so were the farm fresh eggs. Carla is an amazing and thoughtful host. Highly recommend.

Very spacious with plenty of room for our group of 8 women. Ideally located by wineries and breweries in a Picturesque setting. The owners were very responsive when we had a question and would answer quickly. I highly recommend staying here and if we come back to wine country, I plan on renting it again! A must!

This farm house was absolutely adorable and perfectly charming! We were a group of 9 women celebrating a special bride and this location was perfect for a socially distanced bachelorette party. Located just an hour and 15 minutes from the DC area it felt like a home away from home. Rooms were clean and beds comfortable. It did get a little warm at night since the seasons are changing and we were a little disappointed the hot tub wasn't working but the owner Carla was just so sweet and hospitable that we just took it in stride. I HIGHLY recommend buying her farm fresh eggs and taking a tour of the chicken coop, apiary and compost areas! Very educational and the eggs were so delicious! I look forward to staying here again in the future!

In these traumatic times, nothing is more calming than an immense greenfield surrounding a beautifully renovated farmhouse! All the objects in the house are meticulously arranged by the expert eye of a collector! The rooms have distinct personalities and tell a story of love for the property and its farm. During our stay, everything was perfect: easy to check-in, a delightful kitchen well equipped including glass tapper ware! Bathrooms newly renovated with tons of towels. The entire house is sparkling clean. Carla contacted us with great suggestions for what to do during our stay and she responded immediately to our questions. We will definitely come back!

Carla's lovely white farmhouse was the perfect place for a family get together! The photos do not do this place justice. The property is absolutely gorgeous, the home is warm and spacious with all the amenities (kitchen tools, hot tub with towels, lawn games, ample parking, heated floors in the master bath) you could wish for. Carla was a wonderful host and even let us meet her chickens! She taught us about her property and really interesting apiary, told us to leave any food leftovers in the fridge so they could be composted, let us pick peppers from her garden, and was so warm and welcoming to my family and our two energetic dogs! Waking up in a warm sunny room in a four post bed looking out among the fall foliage, and playing on the property and nearby attractions with my family is a memory I will cherish for a long time!

We had a lovely time at Blue Hill Farm and felt right at home. 3 adults, 2tweens, 3yo and dog. The house is adorable and full of all necessary essentials to enjoy the stay. The kids enjoyed riding scooters around the property and our dog enjoyed the fenced in yard.. The host Carla gave them a tour of the chicken coop and garden and answered a ton of questions as well as letting them pick their own veggies to enjoy! We had one bad storm roll through and lost power for a bit, Carla was in constant touch with us, keeping us up-to-date on Electric company’s progress. The house was equipped with a really nice lantern that had two detachable flashlights. The kids enjoyed dinner in the breakfast nook and the adults in the dinning room all while using the Lights provided. I most enjoyed sitting on the wrap around porch with my coffee and nights relaxing in the hot tub! We spent one day At Shenandoah national park, another down in Luray, last day we did some local shopping. Will definitely return one day.

For our golfers' weekend that I've organized, we've stayed at 4 different houses in the area, and this is clearly our favorite. We are contemplating setting the date much earlier so we can reserve this house. I like size. I like the privacy, but still being just off a main road. We like the fire pit -- we burned every piece of wood. We liked the large hot tub. My only complaint was with the hot water. It took forever to heat up before I even considered getting underneath it.

I just stayed at this beautiful property with three other authors in my writing group and it was the perfect writing retreat spot! Beautiful house in a serene setting. Enough bedrooms and bathrooms for privacy, and plenty of areas to spread out and write and gather. It was big, yet cozy. The Farm Manager Mark was super helpful and responsive, as was the owner Carla. We were expecting snow, and both kept checking in on us (via text/email) to make sure we had everything we needed, and to let us know they'd come help us clear any snow to get out, etc. So nice. We got food one day at The Locke Store and headed to the Berryville Grille for lunch one day, all in close proximity. Our only regret was that the snow caused us to cut our weekend short by a bit. But we all agreed that we will return to the house for future writing retreats. Highly recommend the house and the great hospitality made it worth returning.

This house is amazing. A beautiful property both inside and out. Lots of space and everything you could possibly need. Very comfortable and cozy - sort of like being at home, only better! The property manager was so helpful and the owner, Carla, couldn't have been nicer. My only regret is that we don't live closer so we could go back to Blue Hill more often!

We rented Blue Hill Farm for a brief getaway with my Mom and brother. The house is beautiful and set in a quiet, lovely location. Bedrooms are comfortable--there are 5 of them. I appreciated the fact that this house has 3 1/2 bathrooms. The downstairs is large, allowing plenty of room for everyone to spread out. Carla was easy to work with and helped when I had questions. We hope to return on a future trip to the East Coast.

Four friends from three states met last week at Blue Hill for a golf reunion. What an ideal place to stay. Lots of room. Well-stocked kitchen. Several great golf courses within 25 minutes of Blue Hill. Many local restaurants too. If you like steak, do not miss the Butcher Station in Winchester. The Dirt Farm Brewery in Bluemont is a great place for beer lovers. Blue Hill is an ideal location from which to sample all the delights of the Shenandoah Valley around Winchester and Front Royal.

We recently rented the Blue Hill farmhouse to accommodate my family and six groomsmen for our son's wedding at a nearby farm. The house was perfect for our needs and exceeded our expectations. The house was clean, well maintained with interesting furnishings and the layout was well suited for our group. We enjoyed mornings with coffee on the front veranda, breakfast with the lads around the large dining table and evenings with local wines on the back patio. Carla responded quickly to our questions and requests, and we were pleased to be able to have a small gathering of family and friends at the house for a barbecue prior to the wedding. Overall, a great spot for a group visiting the Shenandoah Valley.

Rented this property for a girls weekend in the late summer/early fall and had an absolute blast! Carla (the owner) was so responsive in answering questions about the area and the house. She even went the extra mile by finding the names and contact info of limo companies for us to rent from in order to see the wineries without having to drive. She was so easy to work with and provided excellent customer service. The house is beautiful without being stuffy and overly formal, with enough space that everyone could be comfortable. We had a lovely time sitting on the wide front porch drinking coffee and cocktails watching the horses in the field across the road. An added treat is the master bath! Talk about a gorgeous renovation with a large glass enclosed shower and heated floors...WOW! Our group also had a wonderful time relaxing in the hot tub and sitting around the fire pit chatting and laughing. There is also so much to do in the area from wineries to restaurants, shopping and the state park just down the road. We didn't even get a chance to experience those things b/c we were having too much fun enjoying the house! A great weekend, indeed! We will definitely be back again next year! Thank you so much, Carla for your wonderful hospitality and opening your lovely home to us!

We went to this house for my boyfriend's birthday. We had a great time with friends. The house has plenty of space for a large group -- lots of bedrooms and indoor/outdoor seating areas. Carla was so easy to work with and provided plenty of recommendations. My only comment would be that there is a side guest house where a long-term renter lives. He didn't bother us at all but I would just flag for those looking for total privacy.

Blue Hill has been our home away from home for many years now and it only seems to get better and better each time we stay there. People just don't come any nicer than Carla, the owner and Marc, her caretaker is so attentive and a real gem... She has a Monarch garden and the butterflies come in droves...Just beautiful...We were able to see a Monarch hatch from its chrysallis and dry its wings....purely magical. The house itself is awesome with plenty of room to spread your wings and the porches are huge so you can spend a lot of time outside in comfort.... We are always sad to have to leave but Carla knows that we will be back because it is truly our second home:) The best is that the yard is fenced so that we never have to worry that our four frenchies will run away. Plenty of room for them to run around and explore.

If I could give this home and property 10 stars I would do so. The house is absolutely beautiful and it is the perfect blend of historic elegance and charm tastefully updated with modern amenities. It is decorated to welcome guests and make you feel as if you are visiting an old friend. During our three day stay, I never failed to walk into a room and notice another cute item on the wall, or on a shelf or table that I had not noticed previously. Every room is a visual treat. The living room was huge and the decor was absolutely lovely without being fussy. A nod to modern was the large-screen smart TV with satellite service. The kitchen was very organized and cabinets were labeled so we didn't have to hunt for the right dish or utensil. The coffee maker and Keurig were both used extensively. All five of us had our own bedroom and the very large dining room generously accommodated our meal times and game playing at the smaller table. A favorite room was off the kitchen where the morning sun streamed through the windows, and where we happily chatted over our morning coffee. We also often found ourselves in the comfy wicker chairs on the front porch while we planned our activities for the day. Highlights of the area for us were the Bandy Arboretum, the Locke Store, Long Branch Horse Farm, and visiting Old Town Winchester. Aside from purchasing a few groceries, we also ate at some of the local restaurants and were never disappointed in our food. (Locke Store, Santorini's, Los Wingeez, and V2) The only bad thing about Blue Hill was having to leave so soon. I do hope I get to return to this wonderful property in the future. Communicating with the owner was always pleasant and prompt. Thank you Carla!

It was also very close to a number of wineries that were easy to get to and from on the bus we rented. Blue Hill is very well maintained and the owner/property manager are very responsive to any questions or issues. My favorite part was the hospitality - the owner had a beautiful bouquet of flowers for the bride waiting on the table! It was a very thoughtful gesture. We stayed at Blue Hill for a 5 day long weekend over the 4th of July - it was just the 2 adults and our dog for the stay, so it was more house than we needed. The master bedroom was fantastic as well as the very large shower (we loved the river rock floor in the shower). We really enjoyed the hot tub outdoor seating. No matter what time of day, there was a shady spot to be found to enjoy nature. Our dog loved the large yard, he wore himself out playing frisbee while we were there. There are a LOT of wineries within 20-30 min of the house, many of which are dog friendly on their patios. We had a tremendous stay at Blue Hill! Carla our host and Mark our property manager were on the ball when we had even the most minor of questions about where something was located or if we needed a refill or propane. He even brought us a little something extra from the store for the inconvenience that exceeded our expectations! We had a max of 10 guys that rotated in/out over the course of the 3 night stay. The house comfortably sleeps 8 guys in their own bed with a couple of comfortable couches and/or air beds filling out the sleeping arrangements. If you're a golfer thinking about a place to stay that can put your group of 8-12 ppl under one roof - you should consider this property. It's waaaay bigger than it appears in photos too - the downstairs is downright cavernous. We spend most of our time playing cards in the dining room or around the firepit. We never left the property except to golf. For golf, we played Blue Ridge Shadows (15 min) and Shenandoah Valley (12 min) in Front Royal and the two courses at Rock Harbor (25 min) in Winchester. We are considering returning to the area again because of the great accommodations at Blue Hill and the abundance of other courses we could play on our next trip. This house was perfect for our group of longtime female friends. Most of us are from the DC area and this is close enough that we don't spend most of our weekend away traveling. The house itself is charming: decorated in eclectic style that makes wandering through the house entertaining in itself. It is also very large, with large rooms. All 7 of us could easily gather in the living room to chat, with room for more, and similarly the dining room could seat a crowd around the large table. We also appreciated the large number of bedrooms. It is nice for most of us to have the option of a room to ourselves. The breakfast room was sunny and a favorite to watch the local birds, especially the pair of huge pileated woodpeckers in the back yard. The front porch is also huge and allows for cow gazing over coffee. The kitchen is very well stocked. The house was very clean and the beds inviting with quilts and comfortable mattresses. Carla the owner was very helpful and we took her advice on places to visit: Hiking and the Locke store and Dirt Farm brewery were favorites.

We arrived at Blue Hill the day before Christmas Eve to spend the holiday with our extended family. Carla provided the perfect setting for our annual family Christmas get-together by decorating her home inside and out, including a Christmas tree and stocking for our niece! What a perfect welcome! The fenced in doggie yard provided a safe place for our dog to roam and explore. It was the first time that she didn't have to stay home alone with a pet sitter over the holiday. What an awesome benefit to staying at Blue Hill! Everything you needed for a comfortable stay was provided by Carla including nice quality linens and plenty of them! The kitchen was well stocked with cooking and dining necessities; the only thing I had to bring from home (I live local!) was a blender and cheese grater :-) (They were probably in the kitchen, but I couldn't find them!). The only suggestion I have would be to provide a way to watch dvds in the living room using that very nice TV...the family room was just a little small for us to watch movies - but then, there were 9 of us! We were not able to stream a movie to watch in the living room which was not surprising given the beautiful but remote location (wifi was just fine for everything else you needed...) Our family absolutely loved our stay and the chance to be together in a lovely, roomy, real home. I should also mention that it was a breeze to plan this year's get together with Carla - she always replied quickly to my many questions as we were planning our stay...a real benefit to the person in charge of planning a family holiday get-together!

We took day trips to the arboretum, grist mill, and Long Branch Historic house, all of which are literally five minutes from the house. My sister-in-law got riding lessons at a horse farm around the corner, and we went tubing down the Shenandoah at Watermelon park. The house was spotlessly clean and well equipped. Everyone got her own bed, and since there are three awesome full bathrooms upstairs, we weren't fighting for shower time! The upstairs did get very warm since the air conditioning didn't seem to be working up there, but admittedly we never called the owner about it, instead just opening the windows to catch the breeze. The kitchen is well-stocked (we made good use of the waffle-iron!), and there's a Costco and a Food Lion just a 15-minute drive away. The hot tub was huge! The wifi wasn't good enough for streaming music, unfortunately, so bring your own playlists. Wineries are a 20-30 minute drive away (I'd recommend Fox Meadows and Arterra in particular). For nice scenery, birds, and walking, check out the Virginia State Arboretum two minutes up rt 50. We also especially enjoyed sitting on the house's wrap-around porch with a nice glass of wine and snacks. And having sheets and towels included is a huge bonus, since we thus didn't have to take room in our luggage for our own. Thank you to the owners for such a wonderful stay!

We stay at Blue Hill twice a year and there could not be a better home away from home The setting is breathtaking and the surrounding area is steeped in history and charm. Close enough to Winchester to be able to run out and pick something up but far enough away to give you the feeling of stepping back in time. The house itself has the most beautiful floors, an entrance that can best be described as grand with an elaborately crafted staircase, high ceilings, with large windows to bring in tons of light. Nothing has been forgotten for those lucky enough to stay at Blue Hill. Even our dogs feel at home with the fenced in yard and room to explore and have fun.

This charming colonial was delightful. It is older, but spacious, with updates in many places throughout the home. There were gathering spots and hide-away spots. A large, functional kitchen with everything we needed. A large dining room where we spent most of our time together, although we could have easily used the huge living room area with the large flat screen television. We also enjoyed the deck and the fire pit. There is also a hot tub, although we never had time for it. Most in our group had traveled quite a distance to come to a local canine competition, so we were delighted to be able to relax together at this lovely home, and cook or own meals, instead of meeting at a hotel or restaurant. We were grateful for the small fenced area where our dog could be safe, and for use of the laundry towards the end of the week. We had a delightful time, and made many memories, which will be re-lived for years to come. And Blue Hill was the center of it all. If we return to this area of the country, we will return to Blue Hill! Thank you!!

We had the most wonderful stay at Blue Hill. It has an amazing peacefulness about it. The house is spacious and absolutely beautiful . Carla was excellent to work with and Mark - the maintenance man, was right there when he had a slight issue with the hot water. The hot tub was relaxing. We were here for our son's wedding and hosted the rehearsal dinner at Blue Hill, everyone who attend remarked about what a wonderful place this was. I truly cannot say enough about this place, our whole family felt so honored to able to stay at Blue Hill. We highly recommend it! Chery Rhodes Missouri

Great space - indoor and out. We enjoyed the hot tub, outdoor dining on the deck and fire pit on the patio. Dining room and living room are very large with lots of interesting antiques and decorations. There was also a bright and cheery breakfast room. Bedrooms were comfortable. The entire house was very clean. The owner was very responsive - there was a problem with the internet and she had a new router installed within 24 hours. Plenty of parking.

I can't say enough about this property. Its charming, and grand. It is the cleanest property i have ever rented, and I was thrilled at all the items the kitchen was stocked with. We had our meals catered so I didnt get a chance to cook, but if i had to then most definitely it would have been more than equipped. Its truly a special place. Amazingly dog friendly, nice fenced in dog run as well, with no poo from previous pets... Our dog had a blast. We will be back again, and again! Don't miss out on exploring all that is around the house!

While the winter winds howled and temperatures neared zero, my daughter-in-law and I enjoyed a warm and cozy weekend at Blue Hill. This is a lovely home. It was very clean and comfortable; we loved the attention to detail in each room and enjoyed making meals in the well appointed kitchen. Carla was a great host; providing information about local happenings for the weekend and promptly responding to my emails - (thank you Carla!) We especially appreciated the fenced yard so that the dog cousins could play and be together! However, one of them did escape over the porch gate. So, if your dog is agile be watchful. I would highly recommend Blue Hill to friends and family. In fact, we are hoping to return to Blue Hill with our children this summer. I can't wait to enjoy a few warm and lazy days out on the porch and in the hammock!

    Great memories and perfect!

I've always had a thing for old colonials. This house fit the bill perfectly and was priced perfect for us. Coming from Texas for the holidays and having family stay as well; we needed room. Blue Hill was perfect in every way! Everyone had room for down time and alone time and plenty of room for all to visit, eat and enjoy. Nothing was lacking! This was the best Christmas we have ever had! Can't wait to come back again :)

The home is quaint and charming, full of quirks for being an old home and lots of antiques and collectibles to view. The rooms are comfortable and we too missed not having any window coverings, expecailly during the thunder storm on our last night. The owner responded to questions and concerns except for one that remained unresolved - we only wish we'd felt safer staying in a home without any working some detectors.

My husband and I were fortunate to stay at Blue Hill for the Summer enabling us to enjoy the amenities of not only the farm but the community as well. The house has the charm and comfort as you would expect of a vintage home, yet with modern conveniences. Historic sites, shopping, restaurants, the Virginia State Arboretum are all close by providing more than enough activities if not just enjoying the sites and sounds of the farm itself. Carla is a lovely hostess and definitely made us feel we were at home during our stay. Can't imagine it could have more comfortable nor enjoyable!

Blue Hill exceeded our expectations! The House is grand in style and extremely spacious, well decorated, and very clean. The owner provided us with a new coffee maker when the original one started having problems. Very attentive! The fenced in yard for our pups was a definite bonus that allowed our dogs to go straight out of the house into the enclosed deck and yard! The area is quiet and relaxing with quaint places to visit. Although my husband and I were the only guests for 5 nights, it would be a wonderful place for family reunions, wedding receptions, or for a conference meeting place. For us, it was simply a great get-away with all the amenities of home!! I would recommend this historical home to anyone who wants to experience the quaintness of an older home, but has been upgraded to have the conveniences of a new home!

    Absolutely georgeous farm home!

We came to VA to see the Fall colors and celebrate my husbands 60th B-day. The area is beautifull, but once we entered the driveway, we were speachless! Blue Hill is a beautifull home straight out of Country Living magazine. The rooms are beautifully furnished, the hot tub wonderful and the kitchen is huge. There are several nice deck areas, perfect for watching the sun go down. Carla was a perfect host, and easy to reach when needed. We will definately be back.. Thank you, Carla. Douglas and Caroline

I have stayed at Blue Hill on several occasions; the house is warm and welcoming outside and inside! The large wrap around front porch is a great place to sit and read, nap or visit as you enjoy the view. The back deck is a great place to unwind in the hot tub with a glass of wine under the stars. Inside, the kitchen is well appointed and efficient, with an amazing cofee machine and tasty Costa Rican coffee provided for your enjoyment. I've celebrated several milestone events, doing food prep here - as easy as in my home kitchen. The dining room and living room are both large enough to accommodate 10 people very comfortably and, with their large mantles and well chosen decor provide great atmoshere as well. The bedrooms are spacious and comfortable, removed from the activity downstairs if you like to turn in - or get up - earlier than most of the crowd. The grounds are beautiful and nature hikes are lots of fun. There are many parks and historical sites nearby, and do not miss out on the great food, wine and beer sold at the Locke Country Store just up the road. Middleburg and Winchester are nearby and offer lots of shopping and dining choices too, if you want a diversion from the quiet country life. The description on the website is complete and accurate and the home is clean and very well maintained. The owner is fair and honest in her dealings with guests and makes every effort to meet any reasonable requests. I HIGHLY recommend this charming country home. I am going back before the end fo the year!

I had the pleasure of visiting this farmhouse in Blue Hill, Virginia in the winter of 2011 with several close friends. When we first drove up the driveway, I was in awe not expecting such a magnificent structure (expecting a farmhouse). I had not seen pictures. The wrap around porch is charming with lots of fun decorations. Upon entering the house, you could feel the history and just imagine the owners from the 19th century. The was decorated to the tee, comfortable for our winter stay, and a good night sleep was had by all. I cannot wait for another visit in 2012 to Blue Hill!
