This property gave space for 3 families to comfortably stay on our getaway vacation. Sweeping back porch and huge lawn made for a great place to relax and enjoy the summer weather.A small river was a treat for all ages to cool off and play. Although the town center was small, we found a great cafe, toy/gift store, gem museum, and well stocked grocery store. Our host was prompt in answering any questions. The only drawback was traffic and construction directly in front of the house.
We booked this Home for a four day stay for a party of 8 adults and 7 kids. The Home had all the basic amenities we need for a pleasant stay. All the rooms are well designed, the bedrooms and kitchen are fully loaded for the needs as a regular home. More than the pictures shown in the property listing the home exceeded the expectation and was very clean. Elizabeth, the property owner was very prompt in answering any questions. When compare to other listings near by, for the features and number of occupancy the price quoted for this home is the best. Two thumbs up and we would definitely return back !!
Checking process was very easy. Lots of room for everyone and easy access to the river and the downtown area. Owner answered all our questions in a timely manner. Enjoyed the walk to the farmers stand next door.
We were a group of 10 adults. We loved having the two different sections of the house so the night owls didn't disrupt everyone else. The place was clean. We didn't have weather for the river but it was in a great location. Great hiking within 2 miles of the property.
Our stay was absolutely perfect! Elizabeth was attentive before we arrived and her home did not disappoint. We had 12 adults and 5 children and we never felt like we were too crowded. The homes are huge and can accommodate everyone’s needs! The deck was beyond plentiful, offering hours of play, stories, dinners and laughs. The best part is by far the river. SO kid friendly and CLEAN! The water was crystal clear and perfect. Deeper spots for swimming yet still shallow enough for 10 month olds to play without fear. Can not say enough good things about this home, already trying to plan our trip for next year! Thank you Elizabeth!
This place was AWESOME!! Loved the setup with 3 separate apartments for our own little groups. Very spacious - more than enough room to spread out, even with visitors stopping in and out the whole time. Everything was available that we could have needed to keep us going for the week (trash bags, dishwasher liquid, all the little stuff you don’t think to pack!) Owner was excellent in communicating all the details and updates to us, she was just wonderful to work with!! Swimming was amazing - the river was quite low during our visit but still plenty of water holes for swimming and shallower areas for our kids to splash around in. Sandy spots to play in various areas, and lots of room for chairs or to lay out. We had kids ages 4-9 there and all were very happy with the river (as well as us adults!) While there was plenty to do and see nearby, we ended up abandoning our plans to travel around and just stayed at the house exploring and floating in the river instead. We tied up our floats down by the river each night so we didn’t have to haul them back and forth all the time. River is a short walk down nicely cleared trails through the woods. Back porch is lovely for grilling, meals, and sitting by the fire. Plenty of seating! Enormous backyard for everyone to play in - the dogs included! Despite being on a large road, the house is still extremely private, and the noise from it wasn’t bothersome. I really can’t say enough about this home, and we truly enjoyed our week there so much!! Very highly recommended!!
My family (14 adults) thouroughly enjoyed this beautiful rental. It was a perfect choice during the present health situation. The home has 2 full units and a studio so social distancing was possible. The home was immaculate and the grounds and the river were beautiful and provided hours of fun (kayaking, tubing, swimming). The deck is enormous and allowed all 14 of us (plus 2 dogs) to spend almost all our time outdoors. The owner, Bette, was wonderful and so easy to communicate with.
The property owner Bette couldn’t have been nicer, communication was a breeze. House was perfect, beautiful and as advertised. Location is spot on for tons to do. Finally had some well deserved family time. Caught the river just after a storm and had a blast. Thank you again Bette for helping to make this happen, we’d love to come back!
This rental has it all. Upon arrival the house was clean, cozy and surprisingly a quiet location even though it was near a road. The house was 3 separate little apartments which allowed our friends and family to be able to rest or wind down from all the craziness during the day, if needed. AC's provided along with fans kept the upstairs as well as down stairs cool during the hot days. Beds were comfortable. The lawn area provided plenty of space for all of our kids, dogs and families to do activities. The kids enjoyed having BBQ's, having smores by the fire, and swimming in the river that was a short walk from the home. There were stores, hiking areas to visit and waterfalls all within a short drive. I've been to several rentals but you will be surprised at how much towels, supplies like charcoal, tin foil, extra linings, candles, gloves, mask, lots of pans to cook and the list goes on that other renters do not include. Most of all, Elizabeth was so accommodating from our first conversation on the phone. You can tell by her personality, friendliness and the overall cleanliness of the home, supplies and toys provided and the list goes on that it's clear she cares about the families she rents to are well taking care of. Well be back. Thank you for making sure that are stay was a great vacation.
The house is perfectly designed with three separate sections that can be flexibly used for separate groups or all one big group. We were traveling with kids of all different ages and they really enjoyed having the studio apartment space as well as the individual family sides. The river area has a lot of shade so can be more chilly/buggy than other local ponds for swimming, but my boys loved being able to do their rafting and kayaking and I loved having them and I protected corner of the river for safety. Being at the back of the property meant that we could just run up to the house if we forgot something or if it started to rain. The town is small but has everything you might need for eating out, stocking up, or getting ice cream. The road in front of the house is busier than I realised, but the backyard is like a haven, with a huge deck and a ton of space. Very private and comfortable, would recommend to anyone!
We just stayed at this property with ten people (7 adults and 3 kids) and had plenty of space for everyone and then some. The house and property are beautiful. The kids and dog loved exploring the river out back down the paths and fishing when the water was higher after a rainy day. The outdoor adventure place down the street was perfect for renting a canoe and very helpful with advice on where to go with it. We explored step falls one day, Santa’s village another day, spent a day fishing, and enjoyed the property the rest of our week. Only downside was how close to the highway/main road the house is, made us a bit nervous with the kids. There’s plenty of room outback for them to roam though and we never had any issues.
We truly enjoyed our stay. Had loads of fun in the backyard and created many memories.
Great place for extended families to vacation together.
The house was very clean and everything was provided, plenty of dishes, linens, etc. The yard was great for outdoor games. We were not able to use the beach on the river because it was too rocky and not deep enough to swim but Elizabeth provided a book full of suggestions and places to go to swim. We tried out a couple of swimming holes and the lake in Norway (about 1/2 hour away). Would definitely recommend! Thank you!!
We had our extended family here with three generations, so the multiple units in the house worked perfectly. The river ran right up to the yard and we had hours of fun tubing down it. Absolutely recommend this place! The host was super helpful and responsive too :)
Elizabeth had a amazing home that she had set up with absolutely everything we could need !! We came to Sunday River with 14 adults for the Iron Adventures Motorcycle Rally and we were not disappointed in our choice of accommodations!!! We all had plenty of space for sleeping and privacy when we needed some . The back deck was a great place to gather and enjoy a campfire after a long day of riding and to share our experiences and stories!! Thank you Beth we are hoping you will welcome our group to return again !! Possibly a crisp fall foliage ride !!
Our families loved the house and the location. We have already booked next year’s stay. Can’t wait.
We, a family of fourteen, never felt crowded in this lovely home: each little group had privacy and quiet. The house was extra clean, and we felt welcome from the moment we walked through the front door. It met all of our needs, especially the huge back yard, outside toys, the grills, and the fire pit. From our first inquiry, Bette was immediately responsive to any needs that we had and any questions we had. That backyard would be perfect for a wedding tent! Thank you, Bette and Curt.
We loved our stay here - it is in a great location, close to different activities and the cute little downtown area. The house was plenty of space for the 12 people and 2 dogs - there was tons of land for the dogs to run around on. The patio is spacious and has a little area to build a fire. Charcoal grills are provided. It was convenient having multiple kitchens. I would definitely recommend to anyone with a big group of friends.
This home was perfect for our family get together. The layout was ideal for our large group. We had places where we could all be together, but also had our own space as well. The pictures of the lawn and deck do not do it justice. The lawn was enormous, and the kids were thrilled to catch fireflies at night. We really enjoyed the river and private beach. We rented tubes and floated down the river. There was no need to leave the property, it was a beautiful and relaxing stay. We are already discussing coming back next year!
Spacious house and giant backyard. The house was stocked with everything you'd need to entertain children and adults alike. You could throw a stone and hit the Sunday River Brewing Company.
Our son was getting married at the 1888 Wedding Barn so this property was perfect. 4 couples and 2 college age kids comfotably spread ourselves out and shared lots of laughs and memories at this great home. Everything we could possibly need was right here. House was clean, and we'll kept. Kitchen stocked with anything you could need, bath linens plentiful. We had no babies with us, but they even had highchairs if you needed them. The river at the back of the property, the beautiful sun streaming in the front of the home in the morning was spectacular. The spacious design of the home allowed for us to have plenty of room when we needed it (10 people getting ready for a wedding at the same time can be challenging) as well as providing us those wonderful group coffee talk in the mornings, sunny afternoons on the deck, we even hosted a day after cookout for the wedding party. Everyone so enjoyed our stay, we didn't want to leave...thank you to the Richmond's ...your home is now along with the wonderful memories that we have from this very special time!
This place was perfect for our family get away the home was clean and well equipped I highly recommend this home
We had a great time . The kids enjoyed playing in the creek and large back yard. The house was perfect for three groups and had everything we needed.
We stayed here first week of August. Family of 5(3 small kids), another family of 5(3 small kids) and two grandparents. We all had our own space. It was great! We weren't on top of each other. Plenty of places to separate. Lots of deck space out back to cook and relax outdoors. The kids all played in the huge grassy area. We used the river in the back a few times. It was very relaxing. The beds are all comfortable and it was really nice to have AC. All the bathrooms were nice and clean. We will definitely stay here again! The one downside to our trip was the mosquitos and gnats. They were so bad we almost couldn't stand to be outside. We just bought a bunch of candles and spray and it was a little better but still a bummer. Other than that, I would recommend this house to stay!
We rented this house for my coworkers and their families. Arrival was very easy and we arrived to find the home perfectly clean and ready for our visit. The awesomeness of the back yard, deck, and river can't overstated! We spent most of our time outside (summer visit). That said, inside was great as well...he separate units were perfect because they are large enough to host the entire group at once, but separate enough to take some time away from the group if needed. I highly recommend this rental for a multi-family getaway.
This is the second time we stayed at this property and it's absolutely wonderful. Very large house accommodated our group of 11 adults and 3 kids plus 2 dogs. The back yard is gigantic, there is a lot of room for everyone. House is very well equipped with tv's, cable channels, Wi-Fi, games, radio and more; kitchen has everything we needed to cook large meals. The outside has 2 grills, fire pit, sitting area. Absolutely wonderful for breakfast and evenings. The house was also impeccably clean the moment we arrived, everything was ready for us.
We had a great time at your home in Bethel. The house was everything we needed as a family of 10. I wish we were able to spend more time there tho. We were at the house in Newry where my son's wedding was most of the day on Saturday and Friday night we went over there for supper and then back to our house for sleep and so my husband and daughter in law could prep all the food for the wedding. Thank you again for sharing your house...
Fourteen of us, plus three well-behaved dogs, fit comfortably into this clean, well-designed three-unit home for the weekend of our grandson's wedding. The home is fully equipped and the welcoming owners had everything ready for us. We were able to settle in quickly. There is plenty of seating and lots of conversation groupings in all units, so we were able to mix and match adults and children. We especially enjoyed our wedding day brunch in the dining area with sun streaming in the cathedral windows of Unit Two - It was a lovely morning! As mentioned in another review, you need to be mindful of the traffic on Route 2 as you are coming and going. However, the house itself is very quiet inside. We all slept well, but as you might expect, the beds are more comfortable than the pullout sofas. We enjoyed our weekend stay and would recommend the home to others. Thank you!
My family, friends and I stayed over for 3 nights during Labor Day weekend 2016, and we couldn't be happier with everything about the house. The photos do not do justice to this amazing property. The house is very well kept, spacious, clean, and had everything we needed. Bette was extremely nice and provided everything we needed from linens, pillows, blankets, towels and more. The kitchen is also well equipped. The backyard is absolutely amazing, there is so much room and the deck is wonderful for!!! I loved the fact that the water/river is only a few steps away past the backyard with good swimming holes to either side of the property only a short walk away. There are beautiful mountain views from the house and about a 10 minute drive to the Grafton Notch State park, with beautiful waterfalls to visit. I hope we can go back soon. Thank you Bette :)
This property, with its 3 separate living units had all the amenities and layout listed, the location we desired. It accommodated 3 families (10 people total), including 4 kids under 6 years and our dog for a 10 day vacation/40th wedding anniversary celebration. Thank you Bette and Curt for being very welcoming and accommodating from our initial contact through the end of our stay. We thoroughly enjoyed the large grassy back yard and frontage on the Sunday River, and spent lots of time on the spacious rear deck relaxing and dining outdoors together. We also enjoyed visits to nearby Step Falls and Screw Auger Falls, Frenchman's Hole and the Artists Covered Bridge, Davis Park, and kayaking the Androscoggin River from Gilead to Mason's Landing. The property was generally clean and basic maintenance taken care of. The section of Highway 2 the property fronts on does receive a good bit of heavy truck traffic/noise and warrants caution whenever entering/exiting the driveway. A number of minor maintenance needs required some minor adjustments during our stay, and are really the only things preventing giving this a 5-star rating for our stay. I would recommend this property to friends or relatives to stay.
This is the second year in a row that we have rented this property in Bethel and Elizabeth is always very accommodating. The place is always clean and well organized and we have never had any issues with the property or the management. Great house on a great piece of property. We plan to be back next year.
We got an opportunity to spend 4 days at 690 Melville rd house. The facilities offered are fabulous and Elizabeth Is very much approachable and made sure that we are taken care well. The most valuable feature of this facility is the stream in the backyard. The kids loved it like anything. I will definitely come back and stay here in the future. Regards Joe
We, a group of 9 adults and 6 kids, visited this place in the week of July 9th. We absolutely loved staying at this house near Sunday river. The house was decorated so nicely. It was also equipped with everything we needed during this stay. The back deck was so nice and relaxing with lots of furniture, 2 barbecues and Firepit. Bette even provided the charcoal and firewood. Every bedrooms and bathrooms came with more than required linens and towels. Kids really enjoyed playing in the huge backyard. Both the kitchens came with everything we needed. We had a fantastic week and would recommend this place for anyone
My daughter made wedding plans in Bethel, and I decided to look for a home to house our immediate family. I chose Beth's house because it offered so many opportunities for privacy and together time. Everyone had a wonderful time at the wedding with ample local opportunities for photos, and other activities. Best of all, not one complaint from 15 family members about our accommodations. There were more beds and space available for even more people, if necessary. Even relatives visiting were envious. The home was very attractive, spacious, nice and warm, comfortable, and well stocked with all necessary paper and other supplies, as well as condiments, spices, coffee filters, etc. Beth's house was a pleasure to stay at, especially during such a hectic weekend. Beth was very easy to work with, also. Our stay far exceeded our expectations. Definitely 5+ stars! One piece of advice, give everyone a picture of the house because all of our GPSs took us up the road beyond the house. Thanks again, Beth!
Just spent a long weekend here and I wish it had been longer! Traveling with 2- 22 month olds, 2 dogs, and 11 adults can be daunting but this property was perfect. Having the 3 separate apartments was so great. We could put the kids down to nap or for the night and not have to worry about waking them up. The deck and yard were big but full sun for most of the day. Luckily, we brought a canopy and were able to use the deck all day and night. the owners were so nice and responded to questions very quickly. I wish there had been a little more information on swimming in the area as Sunday River is not very good but with a little work on the Internet (which was available there) we were able to locate a few spots to swim in the Androscoggin that were a short drive away. We would stay here again in a second!!
Great spot for a vacation and a wonderful home! We went up with 3 families with 7 children ranging in ages from 4-18. The house is broken into 3 seperate living areas which helped out tremendously. There is a nice huge deck with plenty of seating. We spent most of the days down by the river. It is only a couple minute walk through the woods and was great for all ages. There was tons to explore and kept the kids interested. Going down river brought us to the Androscoggin River with some deep pockets along the way. Up river had a nice spot where the kids could coast down in tubes a short distance (wasn't very deep but the kids ages 4-9 were kept entertained). There was also a couple more deep spots for the bigger kids to actually swim in. The house was nice and clean and we had everything we needed between the seperate houses. I had inquired if there was a crockpot there and there wasn't. Mrs. Richmond went out and purchased one after we had simply asked about it. I thought that was very thoughtful. We weren't too familiar with the area but found lots of places to go swimming including the Frenchman's Hole (not so great for younger kids, but all the adults liked it), Grafton Notch State Park and another spot that a local drew out on a map for us. Awesome time! Close to stores if you needed something and the HUGE backyard was great for the kids to run around in. All in all we thought it was a great place and would go back in the blink of an eye. Thanks Mr. and Mrs. Richmond for lending us your home!
The house was great and the area was nice and quiet. We loved the huge backyard which we enjoyed with the family to play volley ball, soccer, badminton, etc. There was enough space in the common area to play board games. We all enjoyed the deck, the river in the back of the property a very short walking distance. The Step Falls are also very closed and a nice place to hike and then refresh. We loved it!! and would definitely go back!!
This property far exceeded our expectations. It was clean and is well maintained. There is no doubt the owners take great pride in their home. The owners were very responsive and great to deal with. The description of the property is very accurate, however it's difficult to put into words how great this property is...I feel like we found a hidden treasure! The back yard is enormous and a short path through the woods leads to your own private area on the Sunday River. When we were there the river was low, but great for our children to float in tubes with the current and walk back collecting beautiful stones. We rented kayaks and explored the Androscoggin River, hiked Step Falls, and took in the most amazing views of Lake Lookmoosemeguntic while traveling the 'loop' for moose sightings. Bethel is a charming town, but not overly touristy in the summer. If your looking for an action packed vacation, this is not the place...but if your looking to relax, get away from everything and enjoy all the beauty western Maine has to offer...this is the place! Are children (ages 9 & 12), as well as ourselves can not wait to return next summer.
The house is very nice, neat and comfortable
