Our guests at The Ashland Cottage are always thrilled upon arrival, "It's gorgeous!" The cottage offers exactly what Ashland visitors are seeking: Comfort and charm, ample amenities and a walkable location. The cottage is newly constructed yet designed with the same Craftsman appeal as our 1920s residence. As a separate house with a private entrance, the cottage offers spacious living with high ceilings, natural light and inspiring views.. all within a 10 minute walk to theaters and downtown

This is our second time staying at the Ashland Cottage and it was as good as we remembered. Walking distance to town, a great deck with shade for morning coffee and evening wine--just a super-pleasant experience.
what an amazing cottage/experience! location was a+; host and family were super-kind and engaging. and the cottage was so cute, clean, and charming. my kids already want to go back.
This adorable cottage is exactly what we needed for an overnight on our driving trip between LA and Seattle. Great cottage, great neighborhood. Thoughtful amenities, friendly owners, beautiful setting.
Nice clean cottage with private access. All the amenities you need in the kitchen and cottage. Pull out hide-a-bed that can sleep kids and the main bed is in the loft. Close to downtown Ashland.
Beautiful home! Everything was beautiful! Note that there is no oven and stove so best for eating out or easy meal prep but LOVED the space and will definitely be back! Everything couldn’t have been lovelier!
We had such a great stay at the Ashland Cottage. The place itself is cozy and comfortable, with everything you need for a fun getaway. The location is absolutely perfect... a two-minute walk to Main St. (we grabbed a delicious pizza from Pie & Vine) and super easy access to all the shops, restaurants, and the OSF. Margaret was really nice and helpful with any questions we had. We would definitely stay there again.
We just came through for an overnight stay on our way to down to San Diego. It was perfect for what we needed, and would have been a great spot if we were looking to stay in Ashland for a relaxing weekend.
Perfect spot to stop for one night during a long road trip. Well stocked with amenities (including masks and hand sanitizer). Easy, quick communication, lovely property and owners.
We booked Margaret’s spot on a long road trip. It was clean, cozy and comfortable. Margaret was friendly and prompt with communication. We will return for sure!
Beautiful comfortable cottage in good area.
The listing is just as it is advertised. Five stars.
It was a beautiful cozy and warm cottage. Machala was a great host just enough communication that was needed for directions and welcoming. The craftsmanship was a beautiful rendition of comfort and beauty. Thank you so much for providing and caring for such a beautiful hideaway. The Wilson’
A charming cottage in a great location!
Great cottage set up. Close to downtown. Easy to find and kept well informed by owner. Cottage has everything
The studio was inviting and comfortable in a pretty neighborhood close to OSF. It had everything we needed, and more. We would stay again.
As advertised and beyond, a comfortable cottage, clean, quiet and well equipped. Margaret and Mark such gracious host, made us feel welcome from the minute we arrived. Always available if needed while respecting our privacy. When we return to Ashville this is where we will stay.
Lovely space, 15 min walk to the plays, lots of restaurants to choose from and a great COOP market nearby if you want to cook some simple meals. Stairs to upper bedroom might be hard on some guests, but we're in our 70's and managed well. It's our second time here and plan to return.
We enjoyed this comfortable clean cottage located near OSF. Plenty of privacy while overlooking the host family’s backyard. Views from the loft bed are lovely. Lots of small touches to provide for all needs.
Great location, lovely lay out and wonderful host. We had our 11 month old and 3 year old and Margaret made a high chair available and the kids had a great time. Will come again!
This was my last stop on an exhausting 4 day road trip from LAX to PDX with my teenage son and this place was a little slice of heaven. Just what I needed. I wished I was staying longer. My husband did the actual booking but my communication with Margaret was prompt, courteous and extremely helpful. I fell in love with the cottage. It was tasteful, beautiful, comfortable and well outfitted. Easy walking distance to town and all the desirable creature comforts within. I look forward to another road trip for an excuse to escape here again!
Lovely cottage, conveniently located close to town, the OSF and grocery stores. The place was spotlessly clean and well-equipped with toiletries, beverages and fresh flowers. Margaret and her family were welcoming in every way.
Wow! This charming cottage is in the perfect location and is a beautiful space - so easy to walk to town for shopping and restaurants and to the Shakespeare Festival. (Note, you are on a little hill in case that affects your decision to walk. We drove to the Safeway and the fantastic Food Co-op to buy groceries because the weather was warm but walked everywhere else.) Margaret is a delight to work with with amazing attention to detail. We had a wonderful weekend! This was our first trip to Ashland and we definitely plan to come back - if this cottage is available. ;-) Only coming back if we can stay here. :-)
Fantastic place to stay with lots of extra amenities - bathrobes, a nice gas grill, fresh flowers. Unit is decorated very nicely and is a convenient walk to OSF/downtown. A+++
Fabulous host, great location, comfortable, beautiful home. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. Thank you Margaret!
Is cottage surpassed all our expectations, from all organic products to heated bathroom floors. The fig tree with ripe figs were fantastic. When we visit Ashland again, this will be our first choice to stay. The owners are a pleasure to talk to.
Spent 4 days of complete ease. Everything we needed. Great accessibility to the theaters.
This was the perfect location for a weekend in Ashland with my teenage son. The cottage was adorable, clean, and comfortable. Walking distance to downtown/theater was great. Owners were very communicative and helpful! Will definitely be back.
Quiet, well maintained , close to downtown responsive hostess ,great experience. I recommend this place especially for summer visits
Super clean and new. friendly easygoing host. Would love to return.
This gem of a guest house has everything you need to make you feel at home! Comfy bed, extra bathroom (!), deck with BBQ, kitchen fully oufitted and hosts that were welcoming. Walk to town and the theater were a bonus. Highly recommend!
This cottage is impeccable and oh-so-cute. Its location just up (and it is *up*) from downtown is walkable for those reasonably mobile (~10 minutes to OSF). While it's a cozy space for four adults, it worked fine for us, especially since there are two bathrooms. The shaded deck makes for a wonderful breakfast spot. I was a little surprised to realize there wasn't a stove there (probably because I didn't read the fine print), but no worries! There is a hot plate with two spots for heating pans, an electric kettle to heat water, and a toaster oven. The location is so ideal, we were able to hike up (and up and up) through the neighborhood to the trail network, making it a loop around (via the Red Queen and Bandersnatch) to Ashland Creek, the reservoir, Lithia Park, OSF, and downtown. So great!
Super easy. Great directions and instructions. Thanks for making this such a fun stay!
Everything is provided to enjoy a quiet stay within walking distance of the plays.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this very clean and cozy loft cottage. The location is great with downtown being just a few blocks away. Ashland is hilly, so the walk is a bit more work than it looks on the map, but it's just what you need after dinner downtown. We would definitely stay here again.
We were dry pleased with this cottage. Upon arrival we were greeted by the family’s 2 small dogs, which we thought was very cute. We will love to come and stay again!!
We really enjoyed our stay at the Ashland Cottage! It was one of the cleanest vacation rentals we have ever encountered and we felt right at home the moment that we entered. Margaret was very hospitable and had a number of good suggestions for things to do during our stay. The location is excellent, with downtown restaurants, theaters and Lithia Park only a short walk down the hill. Mt. Ashland is only a 35-40 minute drive from the cottage, where we spent one day snowshoeing. We highly recommend the Ashland Cottage and will definitely stay there again on our next visit to Ashland.
My husband and I stayed for four nights in October and had a wonderful time. The cottage was a great fit for our long weekend stay in terms of location and comfort, and it was well equipped with basics such as toilet paper, paper towels, lovely soaps, etc. Before going into details, we first need to state our sincere appreciation to Margaret for being so flexible with the possibility of us cancelling our trip due to potential wildfire smoke. I'm sensitive to poor air quality conditions and when we expressed our concern a couple of months before our visit, and she was totally flexible. Regarding location, the cottage is about 0.2 miles to Main Street and about 0.5 miles to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival/Lithia Park entrance. Safeway grocery is also under 0.5 miles. We didn’t used our car the entire stay. We walked into the downtown area multiple times each day and explored other areas of Ashland as well. It should be noted that it's a steep downhill walk to anywhere and the cottage entrance is via a gravel alley (questionable for high-heels?). Also, if you’ll be walking home after dark, use the flashlight provided in the kitchen drawer (or your cell phone). Inside, the cottage is very cozy and worked great for the two of us. The view from the upstairs bedroom is very pretty and the neighborhood was very quiet and peaceful. We didn't cook anything significant, but the Keurig, tea kettle, toaster oven and dishes were perfect for our stay. We ate at the counter on the two bar stools and relaxed on the couch in the evenings. The bed was super comfortable and as was having the 1.5 baths. We appreciated all the little labels throughout the cottage. It’s obvious that the cottage is well cared for. Note that there is a 4-person dining set on the deck, but no dining table set inside. Also, the living room looks out into the backyard and back of the owner's home, which isn't obvious from the photos. Overall it was a perfect location for our long weekend in Ashland. We walked everywhere, lucked out with great weather, and had a cozy cottage to come home to in the evenings.
Very comfortable, great porch, quiet, nice view, can walk to the plays, in a nice neighborhood
Three of us stayed here in September; saw three plays and enjoyed walking to OSF and great restaurants. The cottage was spotless and had absolutely everything we needed for our stay. With a full bath downstairs and half bath in the loft, we agree that it works for 3 adults but probably not as well for 4. The tree-covered deck was a lovely spot to hang out and enjoy the gorgeous weather. Margaret and Mark are incredibly attentive and hosts; we appreciated the snacks and refreshments provided and the fact that check-in and check-out were so easy. Thank you!
We only stayed in Ashland one night, but I could have easily spent in week in this cottage. Thank you.
We were warmly greeted, and found the apartment very pleasant. Everything you could want was supplied, and the location is great.
We spent 2 peaceful nights at the Ashland Cottage, walking to plays and meals. The king bedroom upstairs is cozy, with a half bath attached. Downstairs is sunny and spacious, with a full bath, living room, kitchen, and a lovely deck. The owners were very responsive as we texted about driving times, directions, parking, and suggestions. We would certainly return!
How we loved our weekend getaway in this delightful cottage with the most comfortable bed ever! The place is clean, comfortable, and well appointed, and is sheltered by a walnut tree that makes the loft a tree house and the deck a special bower. The hosts were warm, welcoming and very responsive in communications. The neighborhood was lovely for walking when we weren't napping, going out to eat, or seeing a play. A perfect weekend!
The cottage is decorated so nicely and the loft bed was super comfy! It was nicely stocked with everything we needed including coffee! Margaret, the owner, was very attentive and easy to reach. The only reason I am giving it a 4 star is because we drove for 5 hours to get there and once there the smoke was so bad from the surrounding fires that Ashland's air quality was rated one of the worst in the nation. We could barely see the sun. Then to top it off, our play was cancelled and rightly so, since it was at an outside venue. The owner Margaret did offer 1/2 price the next time if we wanted to try it again. If you are planning a trip to the darling town of Ashland I would highly recommend staying at the Ashland Cottage but be sure to check the weather and news especially in the summer before making the trek! God Bless the Firefighters!
a lovely oasis! we we there during summer when the smoke from forest fires trapped us inside! fortunately the cottage was well air conditioned and beautiful to spend time in!
We enjoyed our stay at the house with a private entrance from the alley. We only stayed one night, so it was a short visit, but suited our needs. Thanks!
Beyond the review title: We felt welcomed with water in the fridge, there were good labels and instructions on utilities and appliances, and plenty of options for blankets and pillows. This is a special lodging alternative to motels.
We couldn’t have been more pleased with The Ashland Cottage as a perfect place to stay for our visit to Ashland and The Shakespeare Festival. The cottage is beautifully appointed with comfy furnishings, high quality linens and a fully equipped kitchen. The location is two blocks from town and a 10 minute walk to the theater. The outdoor deck with a dining table and grill was situated under a tree canopy making for a delightful spot to enjoy morning coffee and evening cocktails. We only wish we could have stayed longer! Margaret was the best host I’ve encountered in a VRBO - very welcoming and super responsive! 5 Stars!
Great location, super nice people, wonderful space. It had everything we could possibly have needed, and we had a lovely stay. I can't wait to go back!
Cute, clean, convenient, comfy! The cottage & host were amazing. Margaret was extremely attentive (but not intrusive) by email and text. Her directions for reaching the cottage and for logistics within the cottage were stellar! (Little labels on everything were SO helpful!) Downtown was a short (but steep) walk past other lovely homes. The cottage itself had everything we could have wanted- a stocked Keurig, Amazon tv, room to sprawl out on the floor and color! We were only in town for 3 days, so we did not avail ourselves of the lovely grill and deck; it definitely beckoned! Our 7 year old traveller said it best, I wish we could stay for 10 days! Highly recommend!!
An amazing cottage that is clean, modern and beautifully furnished. The layout of the cottage makes it feel spacious, and was perfect for our stay with two adults and our daughter. It’s proximity to downtown make it ideal for a walking and yet removed enough for peace and quiet.
The cottage is roomy and comfortable. Such a pleasant surprise to find it equipped with everything one might need. 2 blocks to town and the views are stunning. Margaret is a kind and helpful host. We will return to the Cottage soon!!
First and foremost, we found Margaret to be very welcoming, making sure we knew how to locate the cottage, and that we had all that we needed during our stay. The cottage itself is very warm and cozy. It was immaculate, and the bed is very comfortable. It is also very close to downtown. Would definitely return and would recommend a stay at the Ashland Cottage to anyway.
Very clean and cozy cottage. This made our trip perfect. Everything we needed was provided. We will definitely be returning.
It is wonderful to find a vacation rental with everything you need. In addition to towels, sheets, beds, etc. to find the basic supplies such as plastic wrap, aluminum foil, paper towels, salt and pepper and even olive oil is a great treat. First class silverware and glassware too. And, enough for everyone. A gem
Very nice cottage with private entrance. We stayed five nights and loved walking through the beautiful neighborhood into town each day (about 12 minutes for us to the OSF theaters). Lots of windows with views of the trees that surrounded the house. Upstairs there's a nice view of the hills. Nicely appointed. Highly recommended.
The property is just as described. Comfortable, clean, convenient to town, and just a wonderful home to stay at. The owners have put a lot of love and care into the home and were very friendly. We really enjoyed our stay and were able to walk to just about everything we needed or wanted to see. You won't be disappointed if you choose to stay at The Ashland Cottage.
Compact, clean and beautifully designed cottage with great views, a comfortable bed set in a quiet neighborhood within walking distance of downtown. I was a little surprised to find an electric hot plate instead of a stove, but it was augmented by a toaster oven and microwave, so be prepared if you plan on cooking. The hosts made themselves easily available, yet gave us all the privacy we could ask for. We would love to return.
This was a great place to stay during our time in Ashland for OSF. The cottage is lovely for two people, the bed very comfy, and the short distance to downtown is great. Property owner was awesome, good communication and setup. There are a few small (really, super minor) things that didn't really detract from our stay, but would have been nice: - The alley that you access the cottage (which is at the back of the owner's property) from is not paved. This didn't matter for driving, but as we walked many places, knowing this ahead of time would have changed what I packed as gravel and high heels really don't mix. - While the back doors for accessing the porch do have curtains for them, the large bay window does not. As we were on vacation and would have liked it to be darker as we slept in, this wasn't great. It also means extra planning for every shower as our clothes were upstairs in the bedroom, but the shower is downstairs past said window. The robes provided were nice, but should not have felt like a requirement when just grabbing a shower. - There is basically no lighting in the alley that you use to access the cottage. We, like many visitors I'm sure, were in town for the Shakespeare Festival and seeing evening plays. It would have been nice if some small flashlights (something that could fit in a purse) were provided so that we weren't trying to navigate in the dark. So, in summary, really great place to stay for our week in Ashland. Will definitely be considering the property for future stays, but a few small adjustments would make it a 5-star guaranteed recommendation to anyone.
This charming cottage has everything for a relaxed stay in Ashland. It is fully equipped with a full kitchen. One large bath with tub and shower and a second 1/2 bath in the loft sleeping area. The cottage is really like a small house. The high ceilings make it feel much larger than it is. The cottage sits behind the proprietors' home but is very private. The only possible downside (4 instead of 5 stars), if you cannot walk up or down Ashland's hills or stairs, is that it sits a couple of blocks above the main thoroughfare and has stairs to the aforementioned sleeping area. The owners are an absolute delight and will go out of their way to make you welcome!
The Cottage was great. It was close walking distance to most of the great food and fun in Ashville, close to bike paths, had nice views, and had a nice private entrance, parking and feel. Hosts were very nice and made the stay something to repeat.
The cottage was perfect for our 3 generation visit to Ashland to see Beauty and the Beast. The combination of the outside deck, inside comfort of the sitting area and the upstairs loft with the king bed was great. Everything was there to prepare a simple meal. The couch bed was comfortable enough for one but might be less so for two adults, kids would find it fine. Loved the feel of the walnut tree branches draping down to create a shady private feel as well as keeping the cottage cool. It was quite warm during out stay and with the a/c upstairs and the shady tree the cottage stayed very comfortable. It is a nice walk to the theaters and downtown Ashland. A 5 star accommodation very nicely done for maximum comfort. The owners were very welcoming and helpful before and during our stay.
We loved the little cottage. Perfect for our visit. Clearly well cared for by the owners. Having breakfast on the deck was great. The air conditioning and ceiling fan worked well to keep the place cool.
We had a great stay! The host even helped connect us with a (fabulous) babysitter so my husband and I could enjoy a kids-free night at the theater.
A lovely place that was close to OSF. It was everything I needed and wanted. My stay in Ashland was short so I don't feel I got to enjoy the place as much as I wanted. But it was clean, quiet and within walking distance to everything I came to Ashland for.
A beautiful cottage so close to town. Loved it.
The cottage is charming, cozy and on a very quiet street. A lot of care went into making this a wonderful home for guests. The bed linens and quilt are high quality and the bed has a pillow top that makes it soft but it has good support and we found it very comfortable. When we arrived Margaret had the indoors perfectly cooled for us - we really appreciated the airconditioner. Thanks to Margaret and Mark who are friendly and warm hosts. We enjoyed meeting and chatting with them. We prepared some meals in the kitchen and ate on the deck overlooking the back yard with a view of the hills, accompanied by clucking of chickens in the backyard coop. The theaters are a 15 minute walk from the cottage - altogether a great stay!
The Ashland Cottage was perfect for our needs - great location to explore Ashland and everything we needed was provided. The Machalas obviously put a lot of care into their property and want to ensure their guests a great experience. Some of my favorite things: the K-cups (we love our Keurig at home), the charming chickens clucking nearby, the abundance of natural light, the friendly cats (we are animal lovers) and the relaxing deck. And Ashland experienced a heat wave while we were there, so having a/c was a life-saver.
Just returned from a wonderful experience in Ashland. Our stay in this exceptional cottage could not have been any more pleasant. There were two of us on a girls' get-a-way weekend and we found this charming, immaculate little house comfortable, cozy and well appointed with everything we needed. Surrounded by gorgeous, leafy trees we felt like we were staying in a tree house. Margaret and Mark are a delightful couple who obviously put their whole heart into creating this lovely space; they couldn't have done a better job!
Beautiful cottage in a nice, quiet neighborhood, walking distance to downtown and the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Lots of nice touches and amenities. Also, the Machalas are wonderful hosts. My new favorite place to stay in Ashland and plan to book again next year.
We loved our experience here! Warm, sunny, good vibes and energy all around. Tasteful and clean with a beautiful garden in the charming neighborhood of Ashland. Margaret was lovely and very accommodating. We felt very comfortable and relaxed, and would stay at Margaret's cottage again on our next trip to Ashland.
We've stayed here several times and plan to return - that's the best review you can give! It is very convenient to the theaters, restaurants and shops of downtown yet is far enough up the hill to be quiet. It takes only 10 minutes to walk to the theaters, for example. The outside deck is delightful for morning coffee and breakfast. Very enjoyable!
Easy owner communication. Nice to be in a quiet space. Everything needed was there. The gas stove was wonderful. Only negative is a personal preference, the king bed is very very soft. We like a firm bed.
Our second stay. The cottage is a great place to stay.
The cottage was fantastic and could hardly have been in a better location -- a short walk to downtown, the Shakespeare festival, and Lithia Park. Fantastic!
The house is efficiently laid-out and a great space for relaxing between rounds of exploring Ashland. We liked the fact that the alley access gave us the ability to come and go in complete privacy. At the same time, the sliding glass doors that opened into the owner's backyard gave our kids access to a playspace. Margaret and Mark were great hosts -- friendly and knowledgeable about the area. Their kids played with ours, and they even let the kids look for eggs in the chicken coop. Finally, the walkability of the place let us go back and forth all over downtown Ashland and the Railroad District. We saw deer every day on those walks, and the kids are ready to move to Ashland. In the meantime, this is a great home away from home.
A charming and tasteful place. The evenings feel cozy with a gas heater warming the whole place. It's well equipped with kitchen needs - pots, pans, cooking knives, coffee, etc. Quality robes and extra linens also provided. The property is well insulated and easily private by closing a curtain. The TV has internet streaming with Amazon and Netflix. Close to town. The owners were very pleasant, accommodating to our needs and immediately responsive to any questions! A great experience and would highly recommend.
We look forward to returning to this sweet little spot again! We arrived late at night and the owners made sure the house was heated for our arrival. The home was clearly well cared for with attention to detail and higher end details throughout. The cottage was clean and cozy, and the tasteful minimal decor created a calming and rejuvenating space. We enjoyed the deep tub and the robes they provided made us feel like we were staying in an upscale hotel. This was the nicest VRBO we've stayed in. We can't say enough about how wonderful our stay was.
Attention is given to every detail. We loved this cottage.
Beautiful home with breathtaking views. Perfectly clean. Elegant touches such as fluffy robes, radiant floors and bamboo shower mat. Amazing location within walking distance of all the great shops and restaurants of Ashland's downtown. And last but definitely not least amazing hosts!
We had an incredible stay at the Ashland Cottage! It was more beautiful and roomy than we expected, and suited our family of four just perfectly! It was pretty baby proof for our 4 year old and mobile 9 month old, and was so clean! Host was helpful and recommended some amazing places to eat in town. Only downfall was not knowing how to work the TV :) We are already planning our next trip back!
My wife and I came down to Ashland for our second anniversary and we stayed at the Ashland Cottage. It was a really cute place that had everything we needed to enjoy ourselves. We didn't come to Ashland to stay inside and hunker down, we came to wine taste and enjoy the shopping. It was a great place, no complaints and it was close enough to walk to and from downtown. We would stay here again.
We had a very nice time staying at The Ashland Cottage while in town to visit our kids. How nice it was to come home to this comfortable and quiet cottage every evening. We will be back. Thank you Margaret and Family
The Ashland Cottage was an absolutely beautiful place to stay! Margaret and Mark were exceptional hosts, very nice and accommodating. Everything we needed for our two nights stay was provided and the house was extremely comfortable and inviting. We cannot wait to stay there again!
Very nice, comfortable, well-appointed rental, located in a very quiet area a few blocks above the main streets and theater area - an easy walk to restaurants, shops, and the Shakespeare Festival venues. They have done a nice job positioning the windows to provide very good light and views out, while maintaining reasonable privacy. Nice surrounding area - lots of trees (great fall color). The owners keep chickens and can provide (very) fresh eggs, if desired. Note that like many Ashland rentals, there is no range, but a hotplate and slow-cooker are provided, along with a nice barbecue. We've stayed at the property twice and do plan to return. The rental is a detached, separate small house off the alley behind the owners' house, with separate parking and entrance.
Margaret & crew had the cottage set up well for our party of 3 - husband, wife, 16 year-old daughter. It was homey, clean, well-stocked, comfortable, and close to Lithia Park, Shakespeare festival, shopping & dining. Margaret made sure we had everything we needed, and was responsive when we had questions. It is a great place to stay for 3-4 people.
Great, clean, quiet location within walking distance of many of Ashland's highlights. An easy walk to Lithia Park, the Shakespeare festival, and downtown restaurants. Loved the views of the Ashland Hills from the upstairs bedroom and sitting on the deck having our morning coffee. Margaret was a gracious host and most respectful of our privacy. She made sure we had everything we needed. We loved our time here and would easily stay again!
Great spot in quiet, relaxed neighborhood. The unit was clean and well laid out. Might be a bit crowded for 4 people, but could work. Owners were friendly and helpful.
We really enjoyed our one night stay at the Ashland cottage!! All the amenities and everything you could need plus lots of space for the three of us. Margaret was very gracious and even greeted us with chicken eggs which were delicious for breakfast the next morning! She also suggested we walk to Lithia Park which isn't far, maybe 1 mile or so away. We enjoyed our time in Ashland though brief and next time we're traveling through we'll look up the Ashland cottage and stay longer!!
Margaret's guest house was perfect for our stay in Ashland. From the sun peaking through the clouds into the bedroom in the morning, the morning clucking of the chickens, to the sleep inducing sounds of the crickets at night, all was fantastic. Thank you and we look forward to returning again.
We have stayed in several different vacation rentals in Ashland over the years. This is the best yet! We loved the place, the hosts, the location, everything was perfect. This cottage seems almost brand new, with lovely architectural details and finishes throughout. Lots of light and windows and lovely views of the Ashland hills--you feel as if you're floating above it all. The location is perfect for walking into town. Just leave your car in the secluded off-street parking spot, and walk to plays and shops. Our host Margaret was gracious and accommodating and respectful of our privacy. Couldn't ask for more--we'll be back!
close to downtown restaurants and the OSF, the cottage is new, clean, quiet, comfortable, with everything we needed for a relaxing holiday, and Margaret is a wonderful host
My friend and I had a magical weekend in Ashland. This home has great access to the hiking trails above Lithia park and to the shopping district and plays in Ashland. It is clean, beautiful views of the hills, and perfect for a quiet, relaxing stay in Ashland. Margaret was accessible and welcoming. We want to stay here next time we come to Ashland!
Lovely apartment with convenient access to Ashland Main St and theatres. Cute place. Electronics, esp TV set-up, challenging if you are not accustomed to it. Worth the price!
Margaret and her family are wonderful and so is their lovely little cottage. When we arrived, we had a little basket of goodies waiting for us, it smelled heavenly as Margaret had her diffuser going and it was clean and cool. The location is so close to downtown with all the great food and theater. The space worked perfectly for our family of 4. We really couldn't have asked for more!
We stayed in this cottage for 2 weeks. Visiting children and grand-children. It was great. The grand-children spent a lot of time in the backyard. They especially liked the trampoline and treehouse. The cottage was very cozy for us and the fold out couch was great for children visiting overnight. Liked the private entrance and the back deck was nice for relaxing and grilling .Downtown location was nice. Definitely recommend and will certainly check for availiability on our next trip to Ashland.
We completely enjoyed our time at Margaret's cottage and in Ashland. Margaret is a congenial and helpful host. The cottage is well designed for a retired couple like us but would also work well for a family. We liked having both bathrooms, the small one up in the loft and the full bath downstairs with a tub large enough for a 6'3 guy. There were nice touches everywhere like the organic shampoo and conditioner Margaret provides. Parking is right beside the cottage and very convenient for loading and unloading. We didn't use our car since it was a short, pleasant walk to town and the Shakespeare festival. We are experienced VBRO travelers and this was one the the most comfortable and pleasant we've had.
What a gem of a cottage. The description was perfect, and what we arrived to was even better. A beautifully designed cottage, right down to every detail. Comfy furniture, amazing bed. Excellent kitchen. Wonderful deck and outdoor grill. Quiet. Owner was always quick to answer any questions. Easy to walk to town, where there are many excellent restaurants to choose from if you like to eat out. We have already recommended it to friends and family. We will be back! I would give it ten stars if I could, thank you.
We had such a fantastic time at this beautiful cottage! Very well maintained with everything you need for a comfortable stay. The location of this rental is ideal, close to downtown while still quite. Do yourself a favor and stay here, enjoy the magic of this space and Ashland!
Nice people, great place to stay!
We spent the Thanksgiving holiday at the cottage and it was absolutely wonderful. The windows give you a view of the surrounding hills (dusted with snow in our case) and let in so much natural light. The kitchen had everything we needed for Thanksgiving dinner, and the location meant we could walk downtown for restaurants/shows/coffee quite easily. When we first arrived there was an essential oil diffuser with lavender going, and they had turned the heater on for us ahead of time. There were so many little touches, we were just blown away. Everything you could think of needing, was there: keurig with coffee, bathrobes, organic tampons, board games, dvds, etc. And the floor on the 1st story bathroom was heated - what a treat - and we thoroughly enjoyed the large, deep bathtub. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and huge, and we were cozy and warm and just blissed out. I live in Ashland and considered asking if I could rent the place month to month, because I would absolutely love to call it my home. As usual in the Ashland hills we saw lots of deer around the cottage, beautiful birds, and their little Pug Muggle even came to the sliding glass door for a visit. The only thing we lacked was a dining room table, but we brought a folder card table and chairs and it worked just fine. I can't imagine how great this place is in the summer when you can use the lovely patio/table/chairs and enjoy the view from there. All in all, wonderful stay, highly recommend it, would definitely stay again.
Very comfortable, airy and well stocked cottage in a pleasant and quiet neighborhood a few minutes up the hill from downtown and the theater complex. Virtually all of Ashland's attractions are within moderate walking distance even though the cottage is very removed from tourist traffic. Helpful and friendly hosts will engage as much, or as little, as guests prefer. My first choice for future Ashland visits!
We had a very nice stay at Margaret's cottage in Ashland. It is well-appointed, and Margaret has included some very thoughtful touches in the Cottage. The interior of the Cottage is beautiful, well constructed, and perfectly maintained. This is the first time we have stayed above the boulevard when in Ashland, and it certainly made for a different trip (and a better workout walking up and down those hills); but still less than a 10 minute walk to the theaters. Margaret and her family were delightful, and Margaret's animals are great. My son fell in love with Muggles the pug.
We very much enjoyed our stay at the Ashland Cottage. The cottage is well equipped and has a very nice feel. The layout works very well and everything is clean and well maintained. The hosts are very gracious and welcoming. We would not hesitate to stay again next time our travels take us to Ashland.
Two of us and our pooch spent 7 enjoyable nights at the Ashland cottage. It's clear that the owners put a lot of thought into the design and outfitting of the cottage. It was easy (though a bit hilly) to walk to and from town, where there are restaurants for every taste, and more toy and book stores per capita than any other city I can think of. Endless running/hiking trails are accessible in the hills above. If I come back in cold weather, I'd be curious to see how the radiant heating in the bathroom floor works. I really loved the fig tree in the yard - it smelled great in the hot sun and provided lots of delicious figs! While I was initially concerned about the lack of an oven/stove, there is an electric kettle for water boiling (that I want to have at home!), a super strong hot plate, and a powerful gas grill on the deck. Otherwise, the kitchen was really well stocked with a Keurig (plus coffee/tea pods), good knives, high-quality cookware, and some beautiful pottery bowls. Thanks again to Margaret and Mark for creating such a relaxing and enjoyable space!
Great location with access to theaters, restaurants, and Lithia Park. Very accommodating for our doggy children. Newly built cottage with everything you would need for a weekend getaway! We had a fantastic time in Ashland, taking in Shakespeare, wine and brewery touring, hiking/biking nearby, and exploring the cute little downtown area. We can't wait to come back!
We enjoy our stay in this cottage each time we visit Ashland! Our three kids love Margaret's cottage, children, and enjoy playing in Margaret's backyard and with their animals. The cottage is beautifully maintained and well-stocked with all one needs. The location of the cottage to downtown attractions could not be better! We love the walks to downtown through the beautiful neighborhood hills and the wildlife we get to view when we are there. Margaret does all she can to keep one on top of events happening for guests to enjoy and to be helpful in any way she can. It is truly a lovely stay for a vacation away in Ashland with kids! Thank you Margaret and family!! We hope to be back soon!
Our family of four (myself, husband and two small children aged 4 and 2) had a beautiful one night stay in this lovely town. Our children were charmed by the chickens, friendly cat and pug dog in the backyard, as well as the sweet host family. The cottage itself was very clean, comfortable and attractive. The whole town was gorgeous and we left wishing we could have stayed for longer.

This is a sweet cottage with private parking on the hill above downtown Ashland. It is beautifully decorated and offers everything one needs for a stay in Ashland. One can walk to the theatre and downtown easily although it is a fairly steep hill on the return. The hosts were very friendly and accommodating. The view of the mountains across the valley is serene and there is a nice shady deck.
The place was even more beautiful than the photos. It was clean and comfortable. It is in the perfect location for walking to the park, restaurants, and theaters. I would love to stay again and won't hesitate to recommend this place to my friends
Very comfortable cute cabin style cottage with great views and walking distance to downtown and OSF theater. The owners were very thoughtful by providing Kreuig coffee selections and even organic half and half milk for the coffee. The home is very clean and well organized and stocked with bath accessories too. We will definitely refer this home to our friends and relatives and will stay again in the future if there are openings.
This is the perfect cottage for a getaway! We walked all around town from this cottage, and it has wonderful views from the windows and deck. The owners are as hands on or off as you need them to be, which was perfect for us. I have to say it was probably one of the most comfortable beds I have slept in. Fantastic VRBO!
The reviews posted all ring true! My husband and I and 3 young children recently returned for our second stay in this lovely, warm, and welcoming cottage. We all enjoyed this cottage as a home away from home and once again found it hard to leave! It is ideal for a getaway into the heart of Ashland, short walks to the city center with wonderful restaurants and lovely Lithia Park. We enjoyed walking through the neighborhood and the kids especially loved being able to see the deer walking through the neighborhood each day, the wide open mountain views and the beautiful starry skies in the evenings. Our kids loved that they were able to spend time outdoors in the ideal kids backyard and to play with the owners kids. We were given a warm welcome each visit. The owners are friendly and kind hosts. The cottage is well-stocked. I especially loved the addition of the Keurig coffee maker since our last visit in the Fall!! We look forward to returning for future family getaways at The Ashland Cottage!!
We had a wonderful stay at this cute little cabin. It was comfortable, cozy and convenient. The owners were super hospitable, and everything was made easy. I highly recommend it!
I cannot say enough great things about this cottage. My husband, daughter, and I frequently spend weekends in Ashland and have stayed in many different places. We randomly found this place on VRBO and feel like we hit the jackpot. First, the owners are delightful people. They were easy to work with on the logistics of our stay and went out of their way to be flexible and accommodating for us, including allowing us to bring our little dog, answering all of our questions, and not requiring a check out time which allowed us to take our time on the last day. Second, the Cottage itself is beautiful, peaceful, has an almost magical get away feel. High ceilings, warm, beautifully designed, big bathtub, great views, big flat screen TV for movies. It was the perfect size for our family of three. Nice separation of space with a loft. Third, the location is perfect. It's nestled in a quiet residential neighborhood, but also a very short walk to downtown, restaurants, the library, shops, the park, etc. We walked everywhere, my husband was even able to hit the mountain bike trails without taking the car. We left from our weekend away feeling like we had a real vacation - refreshed, relaxed, and energized from our fun time together. This cottage played a huge role in how much we enjoyed our time in Ashland. We will definitely be back!
We have stayed in this adorable cottage several times and had a great stay every time. The kids played in the backyard while we napped and read, then took an easy walk to the library and downtown shops. During winter we enjoyed downhill & cross country skiing. Kids especially enjoyed the trampoline and collecting eggs for breakfast omelettes, quite an adventure! The finishes in the cottage are upscale rustic, and the mountain views from the upstairs bedroom are spectacular. Property owners were very helpful in suggesting activities & recommending special events. Green Show and theater of course, but also walk to trail head for hiking and a short drive to natural hot springs. Had an A+ massage to top off the long weekend. A great place for solid R&R, we'll be back!
We had a fabulous stay in this sweet cottage on two different occasions. We loved it and will surely be back! The cottage is comfortable and clean and contains everything we needed for our stay. The owners are very kind and helpful and love sharing information about their wonderful town. They were easy to work with and had answers to all our questions. My husband, daughter, and I loved the quick walk to downtown to enjoy beautiful Lithia Park, the free Green Show at the Shakespeare Festival, or the many yummy eateries around town. You can walk everywhere from this place! The yard was a great feature for our active 8 year old and the children of the hosts were sweet and welcoming. Ashland is wonderful and this rental made everything so very easy.
All the reviews I read were right on about this place, a great spot in a great town. And on top of it, wonderful hosts to round out a perfect stay. Very comfortable, brand new house, clean and cozy. What a find in Ashland. While some houses that allow pets can feel and smell like a kennel, this one is super clean and is obviously very well attended. You won't be disappointed, young or old, pets or not, this is a great place to stay!!
Beautiful little cottage tucked above downtown. Very clean and new. Surrounded by trees and spacious mountain views. My favorite stay here was with my Mom (age 70) who was visiting from out of town. I wanted something special to share some quality time with her. We loved it! She and I shared the king size bed in the loft. Awesome bedding and comfort. Very convenient, bathroom upstairs and down. Mom and I walked to restaurants, shopping, and the park. We also prepared food in the kitchen and enjoyed visiting in the open floor plan and on the deck. I have also stayed in the cottage with my husband and 2 kids. The kids stayed on the pullout bed downstairs in the living room. This worked fine since there is a nice yard and all of us were on the same schedule for lights out. Property owners were friendly and helpful. I look forward to going back!
This cottage is pure bliss! By the second day of my stay I was already planning when I could come back and spend a week for a personal retreat. Walking distance to downtown Ashland and two blocks from an amazing green juice shop. The hosts are a very sweet family and Margaret sets up the whole space so thoughtfully. Great ventilation and the bed is super comfortable. I can't wait to go back!
what a find! beautiful, cozy, romantic and CLEAN. the hosts are gracious, the children polite, the chickens and doggie a delight and it was QUIET. the nite skies viewed thru the vaulted loft ceiling windows made me feel like i was in heaven. you cant get better than heaven. the general feel of the place is that amazing balance between rustic country charm with posh towels, expensive chocolates and gooood coffee.
My husband and I have stayed in this cottage a number of times on our travels through Ashland. The cottage and the owners have welcomed us back each time with the same warmth and generous hospitality. The cottage is a welcome sight for tired travelers offering a bathtub downstairs for soaking your road weary bones, an upstairs sleeping loft that feels like a master bedroom - with incredible mountain views! There is also a kitchen to cook small meals and brew coffee in the morning - and a cozy living room to relax and enjoy the warm breezes that flow through the sliding doors that open to an outdoor deck. This cottage is close enough to walk to everything in downtown Ashland. The owners are helpful and available while also respectful of our space and privacy. My husband and I look forward to our travels through Ashland and one of the reasons is our return to this cottage. We highly recommend staying here!
We have stayed here for about a week, each of the past 3 summers. Ashland is an amazingly vibrant small town in the Rogue River valley with a lot of things to do & see. This cottage is perfect to walk down to the heart of town in minutes. The owners are super chill. The cottage is very well-arranged and cozy. Everything you will need has thoughtfully been placed. There is plenty of space for smaller kids to play in the yard which sits between the cottage and main house. At times it felt like we were part of their family, but also completely respected our privacy when wanted to just relax. There is a grill on the deck that made splendid steaks, which we enjoyed with pale ale from Caldera Brewery. If you are a fan of micro-brews, you are going to like this town. Pretty much every day we saw deer lazily wander down the gravel alley nibbling on stuff. PS the view from the Master bedroom is just perfect. Seeing the stars on a clear summer night is just what we need sometimes!
The pictures do a great job of showing what a charming place this is. We will definitely return for our next round of plays in Ashland. We are birdwatchers and both the cottage yard and the trails wending their way up the hillside a couple of blocks away are goldmines. You can't find a more comfortable, airy, delightful place to stay in all of Ashland--and so centrally located, within an easy walk to the center of town. I'll bet you'll want to stay an extra day or two just to relax on the porch, enjoy the surroundings and partake of the owner's hospitality.
