Rental was so close to the ocean you could feel the spray and hear the waves. Grounds were gorgeous and full of blooming flowers and lovely trees just perfect to enjoy the sunset over the ocean. It was dated inside but most reviews have mentioned this but if you are only needing the place to enjoy your night and sunset's as we did it is just right.
A couple things we think would’ve been helpful to know: - what disposable shampoos/conditioner would be available (and location if available) - a map of the complex, specifically to know where the garbage drop off is (and pool) A few small things to note: - light on fan over the bed did not work - TV remotes were very confusing / batteries seem to be dying on “volume” control
We spent most of our time outside overlooking the ocean. We saw whales a couple of times. It was pretty amazing seeing them come out of the water. I would definitely stay here again.
The cottage was a great location. It was clean and well supplied. Pete is a great host! Can't wait to return!
We live in Hawaii. This is an easy getaway for us. An easy 40 minute drive from Honolulu. This is a very nice, secure property at Mokuleia. It is VERY quiet. Be sure to stop at a store on the way in a stock up on food. Plenty of great places to eat in Haleiwa, which is about 10 minutes away. Some small country stores down the road. It was so nice to have a full king-size bed. The condo is tastefully decorated. The price was very reasonable. This is just about as far away from the city as you can get on Oahu. We watched whales and just chilled out.
This is a great spot to stay on the north shore. Loved it! Would definitely stay again!
Oceanfront duplex near in a rural neighborhood near the end of the road 15 feet from the waves with snorkeling and turtles just there. Wonderful hikes closeby. A 10 minute drive to excellent restaurants and shopping. Just what we needed in the shadow of Covid-19 after a somewhat busy stay elsewhere. Peter, the owner, was amazingly accommodating when we asked to extend our stay, and avoid Honolulu, thank you.
The only problem with staying in this location will be finding another that we will enjoy as much. The location was marvellous with the ocean right on our doorstep. We thoroughly enjoyed watching the skydivers, the polo ponies and the surfers as well as being able to explore the North Shore. Great place.
No better place to stay on the North Shore of Oahu! We have stayed at the property before but this was the first time at this duplex which is right on the ocean front. We loved sitting on the open air patio watching the ocean. It never got old. Also the beach next door was practically deserted with a nice sandy bottom.
The perfect place to relax and getaway from the rest of a busy island.
Great location and very quiet! Also, what a fantastic view! We really enjoyed our stay, perfect for a couple looking to relax and get away from the city.
Clean, well maintained and good set-up for home catering. Quiet location. Very comfortable beds. Peter, the owner, very friendly with helpful tips. Highly recommend to stay. Too busy surfing to use resort facilities but see nice pool. Laundry is well set-up.
What an amazing vacation we had! The property was exactly as described, and what a perfect location! Peter was responsive when we had an issue with the internet, and we really enjoyed our stay. Thank you Peter!
This was a quaint condo with traditional Hawaiian decor. Very very close to the water! This was a great place for a couple to stay who enjoys the sounds of the waves at night. Not an appropriate place for small children given the closeness to the water and the sidewalk that has no railing for safety for younger children. We stayed in December and a big storm came in during our stay. It lent to an exciting night filled with crashes that shook the foundation of the condo. But it is a sturdy place and was an exciting contribution to our vacation. We've traveled all over the world so it was of no real concern. This condo has a active condo association so we were met quite often by people walking by the patio/lanai area. At times, privacy felt a little challenging, but they were very nice people. I would recommend to a couple but not to a family given the structure of the condo, the rules of the association and the closeness to the water. We had a great time and the owner was easy to work with.
Comfortable, clean and with beautiful ocean views.
All good. One hard to find candle was insufficient during power outage. Fortunately the power returned before long. We missed the beach and noticed the neighbor next to the polo field was augmenting his beach with a back hoe and fabric sand retainers. Bringing in sand/stone by truck/barge works well at our beach in Carpinteria, Ca. Value of this location is currently reduced and confirmed by renters next door.
Cottage was in a delightful location, well maintained and as advertised. Highly recommend this property.
We appreciated the cleanliness and decor of the apartment. We had 4 nights of lovely sunsets and ocean breezes. We hope to be back again!
We enjoyed the close proximity to the water and the privacy of the home. It was a perfect location to stay and we hope to return the next time we go. The home was well maintained and just what we needed. The turtles, the crabs and the beach area were ideal. Thank you!
The house and the property are lovely. You are literally right on the ocean. The soothing sounds of the waves were perfect. You are very close to Haleiwa so that is nice and convenient. We were out and about doing things and didn't get to see many sunsets, but the ones we did were lovely. Fair warning. There are a lot of rules here. Mostly to do with the sewer system. My twins are 9 and while they are pretty well behaved I was very nervous with them putting anything in the toilet or sink. Not to mention all the houses are very open. At night when we came back and were watching TV with the kids we had some of the folks in the home next to us complain. We didn't have the TV up that loud but sound carries really well. I am sure they did not enjoy my daughter yelling in the morning while brushing her hair either. You can't leave things out to dry on the lanai. You can't do laundry past 8pm. I got in trouble for that one. I thought it was earlier than it was. :) The ocean is a bit rough around the cottage. My kids were fine but younger kids might not be. It was a lovely place. I just think it might be more well suited to couples over thirty. It is a quiet place and I don't think out loud boisterous family was appriciated.
Thank you we will be back soon
We loved the convenience of being right on the beach.
So peaceful and beautiful! Away from the mayhem and traffic. Quiet, clean, and relaxing.
This cottage is ideally positioned, for a quiet, perfectly relaxing experience on the beautiful North Shore of Oahu. Far removed from the ‘tourist hot spots’ and traffic noise/congestion; just the sound of surf and birdsong as you walk along deserted beaches. Friendly, accommodating owner and helpful on site management all contribute to relaxation and enjoyment of your holiday. Only a 10 minute drive to buy your provisions or dine out and just 35 minutes drive from the international airport. Perfect !
We really enjoyed our stay in this beachfront cottage. Would like to come for 2 months next year! Quesnel, BC Canada
I felt like I was camping but in a condo meaning the ocean was right there. Nice and quiet up there.
No doubt the location and the grounds on the beach colony are amazing, well maintained and clean. We spent a week there and the pool was closed for 6 days of our stay and we were not notified of this until we arrived and discovered it for ourselves. It was an advertised and a deciding factor in our rental choice. It was a real bummer! Yes, the ocean is right there but there were days that the water was too rough and there’s a lot of coral and rocks to navigate through. As for the cottage, the bed was comfortable and it was amazing falling asleep the way it’s crashing waves at night. However, it is very dated and it almost appears as if the owner no longer cares about the property. The furniture is worn and extremely uncomfortable. I hate leaving reviews like this but I was super excited about this property and we were really disappointed. I feel for the amount we paid we should’ve been notified right away of any changes in the advertisement such as a pool being closed. There were other minor things like phone line didn’t work, the flashlights that were on the counter didn’t work and the toaster took three times to toast a piece of bread!
Perfect location. Sitting on the lanai in the mornings watching the moon set and the sun rise.... what could be better?
Because of hurricane LANE, bad weather and rough seas continued during our stay. Owner worryed about us, but we enjoyed slow life at colony : swimming pool, playing monopoly, walking Haleiwa town… Last day, sunshine came back and stars twinkled. We wished the vacation would last longer! Many Thanks! Mahalo!
Perfect location although no handy beach access! Very clean. Entry thru the bathroom was a shock... better thru the kitchen. Overall a lovely romantic cottage steps from the ocean❣️
The surf breaks on it's retaining wall less than 30 feet away. We sat outside and enjoyed it....
Great getaway location. Beautiful beaches right outside the door. Amazing sunrise and sunset everyday. Absolutely no crowds. Recommend getting knives for the kitchen, another electric fan in addition to the one already there, and make the ceiling fan over the master bed operational. The covered shower stall leading directly to the bathroom was great for after the beach.
Look forward to returning soon. Very peaceful. We walked the beach for several miles and could have gone further.
Overall, I give my experience at Mokuleia Beach Colony a 4 out of a 5 for the following reasons: 1) Location and view was excellent; 2) Bedroom and mattress very comfortable; 3) Living room furniture was dated and not comfortable; 4) Kitchen also dated with spartan accessories; 5) Bathroom was dark and dated...but very clean! The owner Peter, could not have been more responsive when my TV croaked on the first day, and exchanged the screen and cable that very afternoon! Two miles of isolated sandy beaches, mountain foothills at your backdoor, and galloping polo ponies in your side yard. Morning actuates included watching local skydivers, windsurfers, and glider activities right out your front door. Highly recommend for anyone looking for the real Hawaiian island life!
If your ideal vacation includes a peaceful bungalow on the beach, sea turtles and snorkeling off your own (basically private) beach, and falling asleep to the sound of the ocean, then this needs to be your next stop! We’ve stayed twice in the last 6 months and can’t imagine looking anywhere else for accommodations. You’ve got the ocean At the front of the home and the mountains directly behind you. Plenty of local food spots within a couple miles, and empty beaches for literally as far as you can see. It’s truly paradise.
We love the location of this quiet beachfront condo! Beautiful view, clean, quiet, FULLY equipped (even with flashlights which would have been nice when the power went out in another unit last year). It's all the little things that Peter has done that makes the stay in Mokuleia peaceful and memorable. You're near Haleiwa (10 minutes) and there's practically no traffic...like you're in the country. It's a great little spot that we plan to come back to every year. (Try a mobile massage on the lanai with Keana. It was Perfect!) Enjoy!
We loved our stay. The house was clean and ready for us. If you arrive after dark you WILL need a flashlight bigger than your phone. The entrance to the colony is easy to miss in the dark. Slow down when you see the horse farm. It's right next to it. The weather was beautiful. A bit windy. We found the beach on the last day. Walk down the north stairs and walk around the rocks. Miles of quiet beach. You can't go wrong staying here. You will love it. Keith Wyandotte Mi
Peter's condo was perfect for our stay on Oahu. We really wanted to be away from the hustle and bustle of Honolulu, and staying at The Colony was just that! We really enjoyed our peaceful mornings and evenings on the lanai watching the sun rise and set. We spent a lot of time in Hale'iwa, only 10-15 minutes away, so our base camp was very close. The condo was very clean when we arrived and had everything that we needed. Thanks again Peter for an enjoyable stay!
What a wonderful, clean, comfortable cottage on the north shore. The cottage was well equipped with everything. We couldn't have found a better place to stay. The sounds of the ocean, the sunsets, the beautiful beach, the shooting stars, --- amazing!
A neighboring cottage was not available, and thankfully this one was. We always stay in this beach colony for an affordable, comfortable, perfect location, literally a few feet from the ocean. You can believe all the other positive reviews! The owner was also patient with our last minute payment mix up.
We've been staying at Mokuleia Beach Colony for over 30 years and this is one of the best units there. It's quaint, very clean and wonderfully decorated. The lanai (front porch for you main landers) is maybe the best location in all of Hawai'i to watch a sun set. We can walk on the beach to the east for almost a mile before we get to the first houses in town (Waialua) and all there is are horse pastures and forest on our right and ocean on our left and some amazing snorkeling and swimming holes. I've been finding my favorite Green Sea Turtle, most mornings for several years, about 100 yards off shore, sleeping under a large coral head. The swimming pool is great and there is a super tennis court. This is old Country Hawai'i. It doesn't get any better.
This was our second year staying at this lovely cottage. The location is ideal with waves breaking ashore less than twenty feet from your lanai - the view is phenomenal. The beach is unspoiled and you rarely have to share it with anyone other than a few sea turtles. On this trip we saw whales breaching offshore and had visits by several monk seals sunning themselves nearby. If you desire a wonderful, tranquil vacation hideaway, this is the place.
This location made for a quiet, private and comfortable vacation spot. We enjoyed the surf and nice clean sandy beach right outside our door. We met other guests and learned to gather for the ‘sunset table’ at the end of the day. We cooked the majority of our meals and always found what we needed in the kitchen. The guys did a one day fishing trip (Foxy Lady out of Haleiwa) which supplied us with some wonderful mahi-mahi. The grounds were well maintained with a variety of tropical flowers in bloom. From our cottage we saw sea turtles feeding as they swam from west to east. Amazingly we also saw a whale breach the last day. This was a treat as we understand it was late in the season. We read lots of books and reveled in a very relaxing vacation. We will recommend this property. The owner was easy to work with.
This was my first time renting from both VRBO, and this property, so I was slightly apprehensive. I was also a little concerned over the negative review submitted previously, but after some e-mail correspondence with the owner, we committed to the renting cottage for a week. And I am pleased to share, that the cottage is just as described, with one exception: The pictures and description do not do the location, views, sunrises, sunsets, justice. We wanted to stay at a place on the island that was more tranquil and natural (not the commercial tourist traps) and this place fit the bill. As some of the reviews stated the interior is a little dated, but almost lends itself to the charm, and quite frankly with what the outside had to offer, who wants to spend time inside anyway? I have already recommended this cottage to friends and family, and would rent the cottage again if I ever return to O'ahu.
I hesitate to write a glowing review because I would really like to keep this place a secret. Our daughter lives on the North Shore and we have been renting vacation condos there for over 10 years. This year, we were having difficulty finding a place in Haleiwa and expanded our search to the surrounding areas. We found this jewel and will never stay anywhere else again. It's right on the beach - any closer and you'd be wet. Sitting on the patio you can watch the whales passing by during migrating seasons. It's quiet and perfect for two people. The owner even met us at the airport when we arrived. Not sure if he does that all the time, but it was a very nice touch. If you are looking for night life and crowded beaches, bars and restaurants - this is not the place.
I gave this a 5-star rating because the cottage was exactly as described. It is an ideal getaway, and a great value. My wife and I have been vacationing on the North Shore of Oahu for 18 years, and generally stay with an old friend who lives there, but decided to rent this cottage for two weeks on this trip. We prefer the relaxed, laid-back lifestyle of the North Shore to the hectic, “touristy” Waikiki atmosphere. We corresponded with the owner via email on multiple occasions, and he always replied promptly. The lanai is twenty feet from the seawall with a picture-perfect postcard view of the Pacific. You’ll always hear the waves, as the cottage is designed for flow-through ventilation. There’s no air conditioning, but we never felt that we needed it. The cottage, while dated, is clean and comfortable. The grounds are well-kept, and the beach is not crowded. We cooked a number of meals in the small, but well-appointed kitchen. There’s a Costo near Mililani where one can purchase food at a fraction of the Hawaiian grocery store prices. While it affords a very relaxing lifestyle (we really enjoyed watching the humpbacks breaching while sipping cocktails on the lanai), one can always find adventures not far away from skydiving, soaring, and powered hang gliders at nearby Dillingham, to hiking, mountain biking, as well as tennis, golf and numerous water sports not too far away. We highly recommend this for a couple or small family seeking this type of accommodation. I would not recommend it to someone wanting a more luxurious, resort-like facility with restaurants and activities on the property. The resorts at Ko Olina and Turtle Bay can provide these, but they do come with a price premium. And if you seek the night life, stay in Waikiki.
We had a wonderful time staying at your place! What a very special place it is. Watching the full moon rise and then set was spectacular. Being right on the waterfront was fabulous. Enjoyed the friendly folks that were also at the Colony. We'll certainly miss our daily beach walks with hardly a soul around. . Thanks!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Mokuleia beach colony in this cottage. The ocean was literally outside our door, and we enjoyed waking up every morning and seeing it from the bed. The cottage itself was perfectly clean, well laid out and a little bigger than it appears in the pictures. There was a bonus area in front of the kitchen which made the whole space sufficiently accommodate a small family. The kitchen was a little bigger than it appears and we had no problem cooking with all the great items that were already provided. Contrary to a write up below, the kitchen was perfectly clean and the dishwasher worked great and looked new. The cottage comes complete with items like games, boogie boards, books, barbecues and beach mats. The grounds are beautifully manicured and pool and tennis court are a great bonus. Anyone can make this the vacation they are dreaming of. If you are looking for a quite and relaxing holiday, you can’t go wrong. Thank you to Peter, the owner, who was very accommodating and made our “first” family vacation something that we will never forget.
Great location, adequate accommodations. Although unit is in dire need of a post 1968 face-lift, it had a great ocean-front lanai and even a functional charcoal Weber BBQ. Every area of the unit was spotless, except the kitchen which was FILTHY which also changed our original plans of buying groceries and eating most meals in-house (the whole point of this sort of rental) causing us to eat all but one BBQ'd meal out at increased hassle & expense. Part of that was a cockroach problem in the cupboards and daily mouse-droppings on stove, which was more of a mental issue for my wife, but the dishes and utensils were beyond disgusting. I quickly determined that the dishwasher was broken (I believe this was not known to the owner) and whomever the owner had cleaning the unit was simply unloading the dishes back into the cupboards, somehow missing the obvious lack of cleanliness (food chunks on most everything) which would have been challenging to not notice. We thanked the owner profusely for the enjoyable rental and made him aware of the kitchen issues to which he seemed appreciative. When I learned that my wife had been charged a decent amount for the unit's cleaning as part of the rental, I suggested to the owner that the cleaning fee be refunded for obvious reasons. Owner has never responded to this more than reasonable request/suggestion. In a nutshell; great place, wish we stay there again, but owner's customer service failure at the end is mind-boggling. No matter what you do, be sure to take a glider ride at Dillingham Field just a few hundred yards to the west.
An excellent choice for two people in late Dec. 2010. Very quiet, very low-key, lots of windows/screens on three sides, directly on a North Shore beach, excellent landscaping. Relax, slow down. This is not Turtle Bay, Kailua, Waikiki. Loved the quiet, the ocean, the light, the night sky (little light pollution), the green plants outside. Mokuleia Beach Colony is a gated complex of about 20 one-story duplexes. Landscaping, facilities very well maintained & very green grounds. Excellent pool. Well more than half of the units are full-time or weekend owner/occupied. This unit seems to be one of few that are in a rental pool. The unit: A workable, simple kitchen, full appliances & jalousie doorway opening to beach. Open dining/living room. A very nice & private outdoor shower outside the bathroom. Excellent internet connection (cable), small TV (never turned it on). Furnishings are simple, comfortable, well maintained. Communication with owner: Responsive, professional. Accurate vbro.com description of unit. Excellent email communication, Provided local phone numbers (never used them).
