Private Island Cottage with Treehouse - Near Ann Arbor

Manchester, Michigan

AshKay Island is located on Iron Mill lake near the Irish Hills. The island is 8 acres of mature hardwoods within a 156 acre lake. From the start the cottage was built with guests in mind. The 1700 square ft cottage has all of the amenities you would expect from a high end glamping destination. To get you to and from the island from our mainland parking area is your own 21' Brand NEW 2016 South Bay pontoon that we teach you how to drive. The lake has awesome fishing, a private swim dock just for you, corn hole games, board games, tether ball, and a walking path around the lake to keep you busy.

As if that wasn't enough in 2017 we completed our version of an extreme treehouse that has a queen bed, loft, hammocks, TV with Blu Ray, outdoor furniture collection and the excitement of being IN THE TREES. We welcome your family dog and encourage our guests to bring well behaved pets.
Off island activities include Michigan International Speedway, Irish Hills restaurants, Clinton Movie Theatre, Wineries, and visiting the many small communities that surround the area. Ann Arbor is a short 35 minute drive.
This is the place that you have been looking for to reconnect with your family. The lake has few houses and is surrounded by hills covered in hardwoods. If you want to camp feel free to pitch a tent. If you want a fully air-conditioned cottage sleep in and enjoy it. We thought of everything, and looking at our reviews our guests agree.

This place was amazing!!! It was our first time here but it will certainly not be our last. We're already planning on coming back out next summer! This get away island definitely had the feel of being "up north" It was private and secluded and the owner (Andy) made sure that we had everything we needed. Could not have asked for a better place!!!

Ashkay Island was a perfect, peaceful getaway. The house is even more beautiful than the photos depict. Everything is top notch, from the faucets to the flooring and the house and grounds were absolutely spotless when we arrived. We enojoyed walks around the island along the very well manicured path, fishing, gazing at the lake and complete relaxation. Andy was an incredible host, making sure everything was ok and we had everything we needed. Thank you to the Bobo family for sharing this incredible property. We will definitely be back again!

AshKay island is AMAZING. We stayed on the island for our annual friends fishing trip, but I can't wait to also take my family there! Every detail of the cabin was built with character, detail, and passion. The Owner, Andy, clearly put his heart and soul into making this place the most amazing family / friend retreat location! Great fishing, incredible accommodations, and top-notch customer service direct from the owner, Andy. We can't wait to go again next year and the year after and so on...

Our 8 days at Ash-Kay Island was an outstanding experience. It far surpassed all of our previous rentals. The house and treehouse were extremely clean and well-outfitted, anticipating any needs we could have. Andy was a superb host who immediately made us feel at home. He went above and beyond to provide extra experiences for our family's enjoyment. We highly recommend a stay at this quiet oasis in our hectic world. Thanks for sharing your lovely home and for your foresight and perseverance to provide this visit with nature.

My husband and I have been looking for a quiet, secluded location since moving to Michigan, and we finally found it. We could not have had a more peaceful, relaxing time, and our dog loved all of the sticks that were available for fetching on the island.

This was a wonderful island getaway. The cabin and treehouse are clean and well maintained. The bedrooms are large and the large central living area, with a vaulted ceiling has a wood burner, TV and a great view of the water. The kitchen area overlooks the living area. The 2 bathrooms are large and very clean. There is a propane fire table and gas grill on the deck with a view of the water, as well as a wood fire pit out back. It is an awesome place to relax looking up through the trees in the private, wooded island. We saw a deer, hummingbirds, swans, turtles and more. All the household shopping you will need is within a ten minute drive. There is a multitude of restaurants close-by, both fast food and nicer ones (if you desire – we never left the island except for boating). The rental includes an awesome pontoon boat too. There is a lovely hiking trail. Andy, the owner is very close and is always available. I would rent this cottage/treehouse again in a heartbeat. One of the very best properties that we have ever rented. There were no issues. Thanks AshKay!!! The Smith Family

Ashkay Island is a wonderful place to get away for a while. Our group of 12, including kids and grandkids had a great time. The Cabin is very comfortable and has all of the amenities that you could want. The treehouse is a very special place that everyone wanted to stay in. The fishing from the shore of the island was was great and we caught enough to have an epic fish-fry on Saturday evening. Our host, Andy, took the time when we checked in to show us how everything worked and to answer all of our questions. He then stopped in the next day to see if everything was OK. I strongly recommend a stay on Ashkay Island. It gives you that “Up North” feeling while only having to drive an hour from home.

Stuck on an island - loved every minute of it.

I'm not sure what I could write on here that hasn't already been said. Everything was perfection. Andy - an amazing person that makes you feel like family from the start. The boat - Beautiful boat, runs great. My father has never drove a boat before and Andy was able to teach him how to handle everything, Dad was basically a pro by the end. The house - BEAUTIFUL. Had that wonderful wood smell as soon as you walked in. Very open and inviting and felt like we were outside. Beds were super comfy. Everything was sparkling clean. The Treehouse - My 2 boys loved this! They spend lots of time out there and I was comfortable with that happening because it was still close enough to the house I could hear if they needed me, but secluded enough they felt independent. Activities - SO MUCH TO DO! Canoe, kayak, boat, fish, corn hole, hammock, nature trail, fire pits. Great place to reconnect with family and friends.

    A Unanimous Hit

We have been vacationing with another family - close friends of ours - for 20 years. Between both families we have seven kids/young adults between 18 and 24. I can honestly say that this is the first time everyone suggested on day-one that we should come back next year. And when polled on day-seven everyone still felt the same way. Andy is a great host and does anything needed to make sure that the accommodations exceed expectations. Beyond that the feeling of seclusion, the natural beauty, and the fact that you have your own island really pull you into a different world where you can completely forget about your day-to-day routine. I won't go into details about the amenities (boats, games, cable TV, etc.) but suffice it to say that there are plenty of things to do for everyone. If you are looking for the type of getaway where after a week you realize you didn't even bother to turn on the TV, this is worth considering. We'll definitely be back next year.

We were looking for a place to hold a family reunion/anniversary party/birthday party and found this very unique property. A beautiful cottage AND custom tree house on its own private island. There are many activities available on the island which we enjoyed. Canoeing, kayaking, boating, corn holes, hiking, fishing, etc. There is plenty of room to roam. The owner was johnny on the spot in addressing any concerns, answering questions, and making sure we had a great experience. A great time was had by all and we definitely plan on returning.

Rarely have I used these services and the property was BETTER than the pictures. First of all, Andy is a great host and meets you to explain the property and then makes sure you are comfortable before leaving you and your party. The property has a pontoon, fishing boat, kayaks, canoes, tree house, fire pit, and all the modern luxuries of home. You are off the grid enough to enjoy nature, but close enough to also get to some great places in Michigan. We are definitely coming back and really enjoyed our weekend at AshKay Island.

We also enjoyed walking around the island. It is nice that Andy allows dogs. A great place to just let them roam around. Thanks for sharing your beautiful island!

We gathered here for Easter weekend to be closer to our son who is attending Michigan State University. It was a perfect getaway from the minute we arrived! Very clean, well appointed house on it's own island with lots of activites. We took 5 kids ranging in age 24 down to 16 and everyone had fun! Loved the boats, but honestly, we stayed more on the island to let our dogs run around and played corn hole and read books! It was a wonderful way to get everyone to decompress before finals and recharging for work! Can't wait to come back to see the treehouse! Thanks to the Bobo family for opening up your home to us!

This property was the perfect getaway for our group of 10. We felt secluded in our own little piece of paradise. All the amenities (kayak, pontoon AND fishing boat, grill, fire pit) allowed for continuous activities and adventure. The pond was beautiful, not overly weedy and great temperature. We slept all of us with ease and most importantly comfort. Mr. Bobo is amazing. He went out of his way to provide for us and make sure we had the perfect stay at the home he hand crafted and invested so much time and energy into. I can't give this property enough praise. Words do not do it enough justice. You NEED to stay and experience it for yourself. You won't regret it.

We were escorted over the the Island by Andy Bobo, the owner/Builder and host on the pontoon boat that is available to use during your stay. A two minute ride gets you to the Island which is crazy because it feels like you are WAY AWAY from civilization. A few homes on the lake but they are all tucked in nicely and once you get to the Island you really are on your own private Island. My kids jumped off the boat and immediately found the really cool swing that takes you high up in the sky and over the water. They next found the tether ball and then they were off into the woods via the cool trails that take you through to the other side of the Island. Andy gave us the grounds and home tour. A main level master bedroom, and then a dorm style loft with two more queen beds and beautiful amish made furniture that turns into 3 more beds. Being on an Island I was not sure that we would have all of the comforts of home but this place had me feeling like I could settle in and stay FOREVER. It is "off grid" using solar and a back up generator. Both the upstairs loft and downstairs have big TV's which was nice for late night with the kids when it was time to tuck in. The downstairs has two full baths, a full kitchen and huge family style table (again beautiful amish made). The family room had these big fluffy couches to sit on but I bypassed them to sit on the big comfy deck couches in front of the tableside fire overlooking the LAKE! We decided to take a moonlit boat ride around the lake too. It was beautiful out - so peaceful and relaxing. A Cottage that is both luxurious and relaxing was a definite 5 star in my book. I will return for sure!

An Island to call your own! Rest, relax and enjoy nature in the comforts of a well designed home!

This is a wonderful place to experience and quite an amazing place to get away from the everyday grind. Your own island oasis, and a well designed sustainable home off the grid, that is extremely comfortable, well equipped for cooking, and amenities that encourage relaxation. Dog friendly - an oasis for them to frolic, swim without any worry. The Bobo's were humble, delightful hosts, ensuring that you were 100% satisfied and comfortable. No need to drive 4 + hours from Detroit to enjoy such peace and quite, while watching the swans come and go on their daily routine. Fishing was great even for serious fisher people. The lake is surrounded with trees, and can only imagine the colors in the fall. Many thanks to the Bobo family for sharing this wonderful paradise! This is a very special place! We will be back again and again!

This is a beautiful home, unique in that it is "off the grid" but with no sacrifice to comfort!

Positioned on a small private lake about 30 minutes from Ann Arbor and an hour from Detroit airport, this wonderful island home seems to be a world of its own. The design is flawless, incorporating a luxury cabin feel with high tech energy independence. Andy Bobo is a terrific host, eager to meet every need and rightfully proud of this one of a kind treasure. Access is by boat supplied as part of the rental. It takes about 5 minutes from pier to cottage and the impression one gets on arrival is "Wow!"---a feeling that lasted through our entire stay. Thanks, Andy!

There were so many activities for us to do...including kayaking, swimming, fishing, boating, jet skiing..just to name a few. I would recommend this place to anyone looking to feel like they need to escape the daily grind. If that wasn't enough...the island is solar powered and less than 30 minutes from Ann Arbor.

I visited AshKay Island with a large group of friends for the weekend. It was my first trip out there, and I could not believe how fabulous the house was. It is fully stocked with all of the amenities you need for cooking some delicious meals. There is a wonderful grill on the deck, with indoor and outdoor eating areas. They have canoes and kayaks for exploring the lake or for fishing. The beds were very comfortable. The house even has very sufficient air conditioning! The weekend we visited it was very hot out, but the combination of the great temperature lake water and cool house made everything wonderful. One of my favorite features was the spotty cell service. No one was distracted by their phones, and we had some fabulous, much needed, face to face time without any distractions. Andy and Nikki were great hosts and made sure that we had everything we needed for a fabulous weekend.

Plenty of room, a bed for everyone..the cottage was so nice, and had everything we needed..though we were outside most of the time. The deck was very nice and overlooked the lake. Lots of fish, we all caught many fish each day we were there. Canoeing, kayaking, hiking, swimming and just hanging out and enjoying the peace! The lake is gorgeous and the water is clear and very nice! Great sunrise :) In the country but close to all things urban if you feel like a night out. My kids all said it was a place they can't wait to visit again and my husband and I feel the same way! Mark and Lisa O.

Gorgeous lake and private cabin felt a world away from the city for our girls' get away. Great amenities, excellent advice from Andy and easy to get to. Appreciated the attention to detail, the bedrooms and bathrooms were immaculate! The perfect retreat, with a beautiful hiking path around the island, spacious deck to enjoy the view while having morning coffee and evening dinner, and a fun space to play yard games (we got a little competitive!). We enjoyed the oversized swings, hammock and adirondack chairs. Something to do (and relax) everywhere we looked. Thank you again and again. We look forward to our next visit in the fall!

We are a large group who travels to the area every year for an engineering competition at MIS. This was our first year at Ashkay Island and we had an incredible experience. The owner was extremely helpful and responsive to anything we needed. The house was hand built and completely off the grid. With a group of 18, we never ran out of hot wate, power, or felt uncomfortable. Only a three minute boat ride back and forth which made it very easy to travel. The location helped us relieve some stress from our competition, and the team bonded over some kayaking, delicious smores, and late night campfires. We cannot wait to come back to Ashkay Island!!

Just wanted to say thanks to Andy. We had a great time. Really appreciated the quick responses when we had questions, even the fishing advice. I thought the kids might get in our hair but I almost forgot they were there. The fishing was better than I ever thought, most of the places we have gone it was good but the kids were catching endless fish. Didn't buy enough worms but the kids learned how to find their own under the leaves. See you next summer.

Very simply, this place is just the coolest cottage resort getaway anywhere. I don't know of any other places you can have your own private island oasis and so close to Ann Arbor. It has the feel of a very remote lake resort, but with all the amenities and lots of space upstairs, for the kids. We applaud the use of the use of "green" and sustainable products in the construction. Personally I thought the concrete counters and Amish made furniture are super cool. We went boating and fishing, walked the scenic island trail, drove golf balls, made smoores over the campfire and enjoyed drinks on the deck around the centerpiece fire feature...just a beautiful and relaxing way to finish the day :) The wildlife is beautiful and abundant, we were able to see the osprey, loons (one right near the boat! ... it seemed quite curious about us). For us, Ashkay island was the perfect place for some fun activities and to relax, recharge and let nature feed the soul. Our thanks and sincere appreciation to the owners Andy and Nicki for such a great stay! We will be back :)
