Size doesn't matter when you have your own garden spot directly on the New River. A Frame of Mind is a traditional A-frame cabin with a beamed vaulted living room, providing the cozy cabin atmosphere you've been dreaming of. The open floor plan on the main level includes a living room with TV, a small but well-equipped kitchen, a bedroom with a full bed and a full bath. For additional sleeping accommodations, take the spiral staircase to the loft, where you'll find two twin beds.
When you come to the High Country, though, it's all about the great outdoors. A Frame of Mind has a park-like setting, with the lovely New River just steps from the front door. This peaceful and slow-moving river is scenic and safe for all ages. Enjoy the river from the deck, fire pit area – or go on and walk right in! Take a swim, or try some fishing, canoeing, tubing or kayaking. Local outfitters will set you up with everything you need.
When you're ready for al fresco dining, choose from options on the deck or the picnic table. When you're ready to check out the local restaurants, you'll find several options in both West Jefferson and Boone. If you like craft beer, check out Boondocks and West Jefferson's latest addition, New River Brewing. Fine dining is available at Craft Bistro, and Home Slice is the place for pizza.
Your friends, kids and your dog will love this idyllic spot. If your party includes extended family or two couples, consider renting both the A Frame of Mind and the Stonewood cabin across the road.

Great lot on river. Good place for our dog to play. Very quiet spot. Pretty small. Had basic supplies. Small spiral stairs making upstairs beds hard to get to and almost impossible to carry luggage up. Ok for young. Not for seniors.
The home was much smaller than anticipated but the location was fabulous. It's perfect for a couple or a fishing trip. Accessing the river was fairly easy, down a small embankment. There was plenty of wildlife in the area. Most nights deer visited the backyard. We contacted management for a small issue and they were very responsive. We will likely return to this cabin.
We loved this cabin! It is directly on the New River. My kids enjoyed playing and exploring along the bank and in the river. The view and water is stunning. Inside it is well appointed- it had every single thing we needed! We hope to be back!
Cozy and quiet cabin in a beautiful setting!
Loved the location of this property. Few pointers to the owners. Fix things correctly. Couldn’t eat on table due to the fact it would fall apart if you put more than a magazine on it. Same goes for chairs. Bathroom is extremely cramped and water drains away from plumbing due to sagging of cabin. Need to get some stringers in and correct the sagging. Walkway to cabin was under a good 4 inches of water, so loading unloading was up a steep bank on driveway. Mothball smell didn’t add to pleasantness, along with plastic on bedroom window. ??? I have never left a negative review, but this place needs some TLC. I would also recommend moving pan rack. Hard to cook with pans, literally in your face.
The reason why we chose this property was it's close proximity to the New River. Beautiful views of the river and the sky. The downstairs room was a bit cramped and the A/C in it was Ok. The outside grounds of the structure has some drainage issues (flooding) leading up to the front steps. It rained a lot and made the ground real soggy which led to our vehicle getting stuck. Had to pay a towing company to tow SUV out. Overall , nice property.
Exquisite setting. Cabin is somewhat run down and not very clean, but well equipped. Loved the porch and river.
When we first got there the grass was too high to walk in we had to set the air conditioner unit up ourselves and when we did we learned it was 88° in the cabin and the washing machine does not work they will tell you that in a note on a coffee table in the cabin when you get there we spent three nights there and when it was all said and done and we got settled in from the first day we did have a lot of fun on the river and they do not have a grill they have something outside that looks like a grill but it would not function to put a steak on it and cook it so we couldn't Cook out and what we paid to rent the cabin I believe we should have just kept looking to rent something else that was better
We even stayed an extra day
This chalet was tucked away in a quiet little area. You do have to take a narrow, dirt road to get there, so be prepared and drive cautiously. The outdoor area was very spacious with a pretty river in the back and a nice fire pit to sit by at night (you must purchase your own firewood, as it is not provided on-site, but we found some locally without much difficulty). I will say that the inside is very tight (“cozy”). We spent most of our time outdoors and visiting the cities any way, so the cabin was a nice little place to rest our heads at the end of the day. There is no functioning washer/dryer so you must be prepared to take your laundry off-site if you need to wash anything. I was a little disappointed with the overall cleanliness/appearance inside (drapes looked to be a bit dirty, as well as the bedding, but luckily we did bring our own blankets to use). The floors did not seem to have been cleaned very well (found sticky spots of something all over the floor in the kitchen area), so I actually had to do a bit of cleaning up in order to feel more comfortable in the space. Overall, we had a nice experience there and enjoyed our time in North Carolina.
