And not only secluded, but only a four and a half minute walk to a gorgeous and private beach! Gilligan's Beach Cottage is not like one of the houses packed into town--it is about 15 minutes east of Princeville in rural Kauai in an unspoiled, natural valley called Moloa'a. If you check it out on a map, you will find Moloa'a Bay in the upper right hand corner. Since there is very limited public parking near the beach, this beach is relatively undiscovered by tourists. Hollywood, however, did discover this idylic location in the 1960's and filmed the entire pilot episode of 'Gilligan's Island' here--thus, the name we chose.
Gilligan's Cottage is situated on a large rural lot which is filled with fruit and palm trees, to the delight of our guests. This valley is sparsely populated, and privacy and tranquility is what you will find here. Gilligan's has one bedroom, one full bath with a private outdoor Hawaiian Shower (which is very popular with our guests!). The cottage is fully modern in every way, yet still retains the charm of Old Hawaii in its plantation setting.
Moloa'a Beach--oh, the beach! Just a four and a half minute walk down a lovely paved country road. Very beautiful, very clean and very LONELY! Many times, you will be the ONLY one to be walking this beach watching turtles, picking up shells, and observing an occasional Monk seal. This is the type of setting in which you totally forget that there is a civilization!
But the nicest part--civilization is just a few minutes drive away from Gilligan's! You will notice that Moloa'a is centrally-located on Kauai, and after a day at restaurants, shopping, hiking, and touring paradise, you still have Gilligan's to come home to--only a dream away...

Wonderful and very nice fruit in the yard. We couldn’t keep up with the avocados!
We enjoyed our stay at Gilligan’s. It was clean, charming, and had everything we needed. After a day of hiking, swimming, shopping, and sightseeing it was wonderful to have a retreat to call our own.
Where shall I begin? Location, cleanliness, amenities, description? I spent a great deal of time searching VRBO nearly a year in advance of our trip. After looking at hundreds of options we settled on Gilligan's Cottage. What can I say? Research pays off.
Well stocked, well located! Thanks
The location was great, close enough to anything you would need but far enough to be quiet and private. Drinking coffee on the porch was the perfect way to start the day. The beach in the area is so close and so magical, I ran on it every day and we spent many afternoons swimming and snorkelling. The house has everything you need, the kitchen has basics to support making simple meals, the outdoor shower is lovely. The house can get hot but the fans are great. We stayed for 8 nights and loved it!
This is the perfect cottage for two or maybe a couple with a child. The owner has thought of EVERYTHING, from swim diapers to Zip-Locs to extra towels. It was the best provisioned of any of the dozen VRBOs we've stayed in. The nearby Moola'a Beach is beautiful and never crowded. Our adult children and partners rented the Skipper Cabin so they were close by, but we still had our privacy. I will say that there was LOTS of rain and flooded roads during our stay -- more than we've ever experienced in our eight trips to Kauai -- which had to do with luck as well as the time of year (November). We even had thunder and lightning! But this is a beautiful spot where you can settle in for a tropical vacation or use as a base for island exploration.
The property is advertised as having air conditioning. That is not true. I must say it was really not needed with the windows and cool air at night. I really loved the cottage and property. Highly recommended.
Everything is just how it appears in photos and description. The walk to the beach is very easy and pretty views while walking. We went to several beaches on south shore and east and found the bay close to house to be one of our favorites! We would not hesitate to use the same rental property in the future and maybe even Bring the kids and stay at the Skipper! Tony very reachable and helpful!
A wonderful plantation cottage, property and area. We are so glad we found this place in paradise. Immaculate kept grounds with fruit, coconut, avocados and amazing flowers. “Errrt-uh-errr-uh-errrrrrrrr!” along with many different birds was our morning wakeup call. This cottage was everything we were hoping for! Very clean, and updated. Great bed too. The short walk to the secluded beach was beautiful. Snorkels, fins, masks and the "noodle" were provided. The last day at the beach we were treated to a Monk seal on the sand, what a site. Tony is very friendly and prompt with communication. I would highly recommend this property!
Great location for touring or for just hanging out at the nearby beach. The house is attractive and well-supplied. The bed is comfortable and the surroundings largely quiet especially at night (with the exception of the ubiquitous roosters!) Plenty of guidebooks and even bird and plant i.d. books if you're into that. The only weakness is the rather run-down bathroom but it works and the outdoor shower is good. Very well priced for the location and what you get.
The cottage was awesome! Completely different from what we would normally choose so I had to adjust some expectations but glad for a change and so low key. It was very relaxing! The cottage is surrounded with lush greenery and beautiful landscaping. The rooster wake up call was an adjustment as well but they’re everywhere anyways. Lol. We really enjoyed the secluded nature. We walked to Moloa‘a bay once (just about 5 mins) and it was gorgeous! Loved the cottage being a great location between Hanalei and Lihue for easy access to restaurants and things to do. Tony was beyond fabulous at helping answer any questions I had and gave us a TON of ideas and suggestions. Kauai was definitely our fav over Oahu.
My husband and I came and stayed for our 10 year anniversary. First off I would like to say Tony is the most amazing property owner we have ever dealt with! We were able to contact him with any questions concerns or needs and he immediately responded to us. We had the pleasure of getting to meet him because he was staying in the property behind us. We loved Gilligans cottage so much. We fell at home the second we walked through the door. The house was extremely neat and tidy, and had all the amenities we needed. We loved the lush garden that surrounded the property, and felt completely secluded. The location of the cottage is so wonderful and close to the beach, just a four minute walk. We left our cottage every morning to go explore the island, but we also looked forward to coming back to the cottage when we were done to hang out there and enjoy our stay. I would rate our experience with 100 stars if I was able to! Hopefully in the future we will be returning and stay at our favorite little cottage and Kauai. Thank you Tony for everything that you did for us, we appreciate your hospitality so much
This was our first time to Hawaii/Kauai - Gilligan's cottage was a perfect fit for us. We enjoyed the privacy (and got used to the chickens in the morning)! The cottage was about a 20 min drive to the nearest "big" town; no problems there as there is plenty of scenery to enjoy on the drive. The cottage was well equipped and made making meals 'at home' easier versus eating out every day. Being able to do laundry was a huge plus as well. We had a blast and look forward to our next trip back!
Had a fantastic stay in paradise :) would highly recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing vacation. Very well located near a beautiful private beach close to everything.
Not only is Kauai an amazing island - so is this lovely private cottage! It had everything we needed (& more) and is very clean and well maintained. The kitchen was stocked, bed was comfortable, and the yard was as lush as can be! We enjoyed watching the sunrise every morning at Moloaa bay and exploring the rest of the island during our stay. Tony was very easy to reach and I can't recommend Gilligan's cottage enough. We will stay here again if we are lucky enough to visit Kauai. Mahalo, Tony!
We loved this place. It was perfect for our vacation of relaxing and hanging out at the beach. It was a short drive into Hanalei where we went for SUP and bought fresh fish for multiple dinners we cooked at the house (bought at the The Dolphin in the back). We would absolutely come back here. Besides location it was very clean, Toni was super responsive and gave us lots of details. Felt very comfortable before we even arrived!
Gilligan’s cottage has been such a beautiful home away from home. The pictures do not do it justice! When we arrived it was spotless and welcoming. This area of the island is fantastic if you are looking for peace and quiet. Tony has been so great to deal with and super responsive. When we come back, we will definitely stay here again. Highly recommend!!
Gorgeous property near a lovely beach. Private and comfortable with an awesome outdoor shower.
This rental was everything I could have hoped for. They have everything you could need and the location is stunning. It was my first time to Kaua’i and I can’t imagine staying anywhere else in the future. Mahalo!
We have stayed in quite a few vacation rentals over the years but I have to say this was the BEST. We came for 5 days but should have stayed longer. Everything you need is right here. To folks coming I would say check in then go back to the store. There's a lot of little things you think you need but you don't. You will need the food essentials. We happened to hit it on a full moon and the walk to Molloaa Bay in the moonlight is unbelievable. Bring a flashlight to shine at your feet. Speaking of the Bay- perfect. Get there early and no one is there. We took the trail to the North and that's a must see. Bring your swimsuits, the water is all day warm. Also bring tons of 50 plus sunscreen. The sun is very intense. Gail and I thank you Tony for your hospitality. Your housekeeper and groundskeeper are nothing short of the best. Spotless. I mean spotless. We left a couple new pillows. And before I forget, there is a little Gray cat. Very friendly for being feral and loves to be petted. We named her Verbo. Actually beat the chickens to an Avocado the size of a Washington Apple. Let it rest in a bag for two days and enjoy! Speaking of chickens, they will serenade you Odarkthirty early. But it's pretty cool. Reminded me of my youth. The only suggestion I have is maybe a guest book but other than that this is the perfect place. One last thing... There is NO AT&T cell reception (we knew that going in) but the WIFI is strong. There is a phone but we couldn't call locally on it (for reservations). That may have been operator error? We tried all the sequences. Wasn't really an issue. Thank you again for a stunning good time. It is everything you represent and more.
Cute and cozy place. Wonderful, private lanai. Shot walking distance to secluded beautiful beach. Kind and helpful owner. This is a repeat stay for me and don’t imagine I’ll ever stay anywhere else on Kauai.
Maloaa is--as advertised--in a very good location. Quick to Kapaa or Princeville. Very quiet (except for the chickens). Secluded and private. The house was well furnished and stocked. The beach gear is especially nice to have. We loved Gilligan's. I'm sure it will hold memories for us for years to come. We will almost certainly stay here again.
A lovely private house. The cottage was just as described. Communication from the owner, Tony, was excellent and he provided clear directions and many valuable tips and suggestions. The location was a 5 minute walk to the beach. We meet friendly people there, offering info about the beach and surrounding area. Loved the outdoor shower! Although, we did only a little in house cooking, there were ample appliances and cookware. Having some available condiments, ziplock bags, coffee filters, etc. was very convenient. We ate fresh grapefruit picked on the property every morning! A great place!
We spent four nights over new years and enjoyed it all. Yes there are a few roosters who have no clock, but it was ok. The place is secluded and has very little traffic on the road. Beach access was quick, but the water cold, go to the SE end of the beach for calmer waters. No complaints for the well stocked cottage. Definitely a keeper for a return visit.
Small, cosy cottage, well kept and clean; secluded for privacy and lovely landscaped. Beach was in walking distance, but not winter friendly. Easy to find and drive into. The full kitchen allowed us to prepare family and friends holiday meals. We would select this cottage if we planned to visit family again on Kauai.
Our stay at Gilligan's was awesome. Tony was an amazing host and kept in tough the whole trip. I love the location of the cottage as it was very central from the south side to north side. The beach that is just a short walk away was a nice hidden gem as well and was never crowded. Would stay here again in a heartbeat!
The owner has thought of everything you need for a totally enjoyable experience. He is VERY responsive with communications and it was truly the best vacation experience we have ever had. I have used VRBO for several years and have had many great experiences. This one has been my best experience to date and although we aren't home yet I can't wait to start planning my next trip. Kauai was magical and impacted me greatly. The cottage is in a secluded location and offered adequate privacy from the other house on the property. If the guests up top of the hill get loud you can hear them but only slightly. The cottage is almost completely surrounded by tropical plants and has many fruit trees on the property. We collected avocados most mornings but you have to beat the chickens to them. :) Owner provides beach chairs, toys, snorkel gear, coolers, etc. the location to the beach is very convenient. Though we never walked it it isn't far at all. Beautiful location for snorkelling, swimming and boogie boarding. Perfection for us. It was all we could have asked for except air conditioning. It did get a little warm in the mid day when cooking so we bought a second fan and that made it much better. But if you have ever been to Hawaii, you know not to expect AC. Night time was very comfortable and I had to use the sheets to cover up as it actually got a little cool. Can't wait to get back!
I would recommend this place to any couples that want some actual peace while on their Hawaiian vacation. It is comfortable, has every amenity you could need (fully stocked kitchen, beach gear, washer/dryer, WiFi, grill), feels super private, and is just minutes away from a low key but beautiful beach. There is no cell service, at least not AT&T, but for a true get away I think that's a good thing! The cottage is also stocked with all kinds of books about the island and things to do, and even has a collection of cds with chill island music .. so relaxing!! We loved our stay and will recommend the cottage to all our friends.
The private, serene setting was sublime and we enjoyed the clean, comfortable cottage that had local charm with all of the modern immenities. The outdoor shower was nice to come home to after a long hike or a trip to the beach. The place was well-stocked with the basics and more. The owner came by in the middle of our stay and was very welcoming. I had been looking at this place for years and it did not disappoint. A little piece of paradise.
Travelling for an overdue Honeymoon and this place was incredible! . Clean , spacious for 2, the songbirds in the evening and the outdoor shower were all amazing. Moloa'a Bay is a gem of a beach. We spent a week on Kauai. 3 nights in Poipu and 4 nights here, and all in all , we wished we did all 7 at Gilligan's. Next time we will book earlier to ensure more time here. Well appointed with beach toys, towels, snorkeling gear, guidebooks, thewifi was strong for checking work emails in the evening :( lol. Great little organic coffee shop / bakery nearby - Get the Chai smoothie as it is amazing. Im still sad to no longer be there and CAN'T WAIT to return and stay at this property! Thanks Tony!!
The property was gorgeous. The cottage was an amazing retreat. Very cozy and extremely well stocked. The instructions given to us prior to our arrival were very helpful and clear. There was not one issue. The pictures are amazing but still do not fully depict the beauty.
Gilligan's Cottage exceeded our expectations! Great location away from the traffic & crowds of the Kapa'a area and a easy walk to the beach. We spent every day at the beach and then returned to the cottage for cocktails on the lanai. Host Tony has done a wonderful job with so many nice touches. The outdoor shower is a great way to rinse off and cool down after a day at the beach. The kitchen set up was right for us as we prefer to prepare our own meals and the outdoor gas grill worked perfect. The avocado tree adjacent to the lanai was flush with ripe fruit which was so delicious. We enjoyed all the fruit that was in season including tangerines, grapefruit & limes. Another nice touch from Tony is a closet full of beach essentials; chairs, coolers, umbrellas, beach mats & snorkel gear. The cottage has a remote feel to it because of the lush vegetation surrounding it. There are so many windows which allowed for great views of the property and cool evening air flow. This place is a real gem for couples who want to get away from it all and still have easy access to the east shore & north shore. Can't wait to go back! Jim & Jolene - Littleton, Colorado
The house was in a peaceful area surrounded by vegetation and a very short walk to moloa bay- which has awesome snorkeling! Retrospectively, we wouldn't have stayed anywhere else. The house was well kept, very clean. You could tell the house keeper scrubbed everything head to toe between renters. The house was well set up with everything we needed too, like toilet paper, sheets, towels, laundry detergent etc. Tony was quick to respond to our questions, and was very helpful helping us find anything we needed. We hope to rent again in the future when we come back to visit the island!
We just concluded our second stay at Gilligan's Cottage. I hesitate to praise it as highly as I would like to, because I don't want a horde of people getting any big ideas about filling up its reservation calendar so I can't get to it a third time. This is a fun, quirky, VERY relaxing place to stay. There is nothing fussy about it, but everything you need is right there the moment you realize you need it. It's very cozy, very clean, very private, very, very comfortable. Steps away from Moloa'a Bay, gorgeous yard, lovely deck. And the owners are super nice and immediately responsive to any needs you may have. Now, forget everything I've just said. Hands off. I want it all to myself. :-)
We spent a week in a condo at Kapa'a prior to arriving at Gilligan’s Beach Cottage. I was hopeful Gilligan’s would provide a bit off-the-beaten-path and peaceful end to our two week stay on Kauai – and it did. Gilligan’s is charming, clean and had everything we needed for an enjoyable stay. The cottage has a large, well-maintained yard complete with numerous fruit trees. The lush landscaping on the property provides for a private and relaxed setting. Noises from neighboring homes and properties can be heard from within the cottage – but so too can the crashing waves and array of pleasant tropical sounds. The cottage itself was comfortable for the two of us. The kitchen is well-stocked and we were easily able to prepare our own meals. Having a washer and dryer was convenient, as was access to a grill on the large back porch. There is a great selection of local books, music as well as many movies. We found the location near Moloa'a Bay ideal for exploring north, all the way to Ke'e Beach, and south, as far as we could go in Waimea Canyon. Moloa'a Bay, although possibly less popular than other beaches, has limited parking – so being able to walk to the beach was a plus. Tony was a pleasure to work with and provided clear and prompt communication. I would not hesitate to recommend Gilligan’s Beach Cottage to friends and family, and hope – one day – we are lucky enough to return for another visit.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time here. Mornings were spent on the lanai listening to birds in the trees and shade was easily available. The fruit trees were wonderful. The beach was within easy walking distance. Unfortunately the surf was too high during our stay for swimming but our weather was very unusual. Toni was extremely helpful. If we come back to Kaui, we will return to this little cottage.
We chose Gilligan's to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary, and we could not have picked a better place! The entire staff was helpful and friendly, and we enjoyed our stay so much, we were sad to leave. We were looking for privacy and seclusion & found the cottage to be the perfect tranquil getaway. The new granite countertops in the kitchen looked great, and added a touch of modern flair. Everything was clean & very well maintained, and we appreciated the motion light by the front door, to help guide us back in at night. The valley gets pretty dark at night, which I quite like. Living in a metropolis area, it was a welcome thing, and contributed to the peace and country feel. Each day as we headed out, we would close the house up , & were very happy at how quickly it cooled down when we returned, & opened everything back up again. The geckos were my favorite, and other than the crowing, we got a kick out of the roosters and chickens hanging out in the yard. Tony was a breeze to work with, very accommodating, and answered all of our questions. This was our first trip to Hawaii, and the cottage was the best initiation we could have hoped for. We hope to make it back someday, as it was an unforgettable experience! Mahalo! Sarah & Brett
First of all, the owner Tony, is probably one of the nicest people you'll ever talk to. From the first confirmation email to last thank you text he is an excellent host away from home and will surely do anything he can to help. The house keepers do an excellent job at making this rental look fresh and new with the calendar so tightly booked. My wife and could go on. The rental itself was exactly what my wife and I were looking for having stayed in Koloa'a Valley before. Just like most of the reviews say, you can hear the waves, cook every meal at home, walk to the best beach and rinse off in the outdoor shower. It really is a slice of paradise. Being three plus months pregnant my wife had an easy time dealing with the weather inside and out. The home opens up so much that it will quickly cool down and keep out most pests. The ceiling and floor fans do a great job also. I hear that theres granite counter tops now which just shows how much Tony cares for his home. The list goes on for how great the place is for a small family or anyone just wanting a private escape.
When my Wife and I decided we would make Kauai our Vacation destination for the fourth time we wanted this trip to be a more "At Home" feel. Not the Resort or Cruise atmosphere. We researched and came upon the Gilligan's Cottage in Moloa'a Bay. Wow! did we make a great decision. Very secluded, but yet a short walk to the most Beautiful Beach one could Imagine. Kauai is absolutely remarkable in itself...But to be able to stay in such an amazing cottage like this was every thing My Wife and I could have Dreamed!!! Brian and LynEtte Mason
Our dive from the Airport to Moloa'a Bay is beautiful, but when we drove up to Gilligan's Beach Cottage we felt this was the most beautiful and perfect place to spend a couple of weeks! The surroundings of the cottage are spectacular and make the best backgrounds for pictures all around. It's hard to choose my favorite area of the cottage. We enjoy the deck at breakfasts and dinners. I love the availability of washer and dryer to keep up with our towels. My husband likes the safe and quiet surroundings knowing no one will come in while we are out enjoying the beach, which we walked to almost daily.
Janet and I are regular visitors to Kauai. We book cottages and spend our time hiking, cooking, diving, beach combing and exploring. Our requirements are, privacy, cleanliness, full amenities, close proximity to a beach, a host who knows how to be hospitable and a central location to North and East shores. Gilligan's cottage is the first one we would come back to. Everything we wanted plus fresh fruit right in the backyard, the first dishwasher we have had, solid WiFi, plenty of space to cook our meals, granite countertops, and a well maintained property. We know "top of its class" and Gilligan's Cottage is it. Book it!
We just loved the adorable Gilligans cottage with the beautiful lush foliage and avocado tree on the deck plus mango and banana trees! The cottage itself was very nice to stay in and comfortable. Great kitchen, well stocked with some basic spices and easentials to cook with. We appreciated the boogies boards, nice beach chairs, & beach towels & snorkel gear. Outdoor shower was a treat! Enjoyed morning walks to the beach, (Gilligans island), to catch the sunrise. Very private and non-touristy. Gilligans is also very centrally located which was nice for all the many adventures on the island. Grocery stores and shopping within 10-15 minutes. Very nice and friendly property manager. Totally recommend this vacation rental!
My wife and I spent seven nights at Gilligan's in January 2019. The good: perfect house for a couple private lot, nice neighborhood very clean comfortable queen bed new appliances everything one needs lots of windows three blocks from a wonderful beach The not so good neighborhood chickens are noisy
Had a wonderfully restful stay at this property with my wife and two daughters who they shared the futon couch. The site has a large yard, two friendly (outdoor) cats, lots of roosters, and numerous fruit trees (all out of season during my stay, unfortunately...). An outdoor shower made post-beach cleanup very easy. We slept every night with the windows open, letting the sounds of the surrounding jungle soothe us to sleep. House felt extremely safe and was well equipped to cook, do laundry, visit the beach, and the like. Lots of CDs, books, and DVDs in case the rain keeps you inside. Information from the owner prior to arrival was very comprehensive and accurate. I highly recommend staying near Moloa'a Beach and this property puts your close enough to the beach to walk, but not no close that you have deal with beachgoers parking or wandering through your yard.
My husband and I spent our honeymoon in Kauai and rented Gilligan's Cottage in August 2009. We were there for 10 days and couldn't have asked for a more perfect experience! Gilligan's is everything it boasts to be and more...the pictures don't do it justice. The owners have thought of every possible amenity to make it feel like a home away from home. It was spotless and well maintained. We loved spending time on the lanai. The bed was very comfortable. Don't pack a lot of clothes, as you won't need them! The washer and dryer are very handy to have. The owners are very helpful and accommodating. The North Shore offers lots of sightseeing, beach, shopping and restaurant choices. Moloa'a Beach is paradise found....especially beautiful for pictures in the early morning. We would recommend this cottage to anyone. You won't be disappointed and the price is incredibly good.
Unfortunately, I did not enjoy this cottage. I had chosen it because Moloaa Bay is beautiful. I arrived late afternoon and as evening came on, I realized there were no blinds/shades on any of the windows, not even in the bedroom. There were very high plants across the front of the house, but I still felt very exposed in a lit up room and a very dark outdoors. I was reading the visitors' book and read that in January of 2013, one couple had gone out for a short while and came back to find that a thief had come in a small window and stolen the woman's purse and keys and her husband's PC and MP3. This unnerved me. Then there were 2 small plug in lights that flashed blue every few seconds and I did not know what they were for, but they were very irritating. After one night, I called the owner and explained my concerns to him. He was not helpful and said I had "irrational fears" because I wanted to have some blinds in at least the bedroom, did not like the two flashing blue lights (which he said I should leave plugged in due to insects that could come in otherwise.) Also I was upset by the break-in in his cottage, just 2 months prior. He said those January tenants must have left a very small sliding window open and that this road had seen several break- ins in the last few months. He kept telling me I was in "in the jungle" and that if I wanted blinds, I should have gone to a condo! His ad saying "secluded" does not say "jungle". Also, I did not find the cottage really well-kept up, though it was, in general, neat. One screen was broken and was patched together with scotch tape; in the kitchen one hinge was broken on a cabinet door; in the bathroom there was a broken handle on the cabinet door under the sink. The pillow cases on the bed had completely frayed edges. For the price I had paid, I did not expect these issues. Because this owner would not address my concerns, and kept repeating I just had "irrational fears" and would not negotiate with me or meet me half-way for the 12 days I had already paid for, I chose to leave this cottage and paid again for a rental elsewhere so I could enjoy my 2 weeks in Kauai. So buyer beware. This cottage was way below my expectations; I was extremely dissatisfied, so I would not recommend it to anyone.
I don't usually write reviews, but when I came across the review by Seattlite, I knew I had to set the record straight. She is dead wrong. I'm not really sure what her problem is, but Gilligan's Beach Cottage is a very charming place to stay. Our stay was for 10 days, in August, 2012. We had a great time. We loved the peace and solitude, the 11 types of fruit in the yard, the beach toys and gear, and the fully stocked kitchen with all the amenities not offered at many of the other places we had checked out. The outdoor shower, the short tranquil walk to the beach we took most mornings and countless other amenities. We had many quiet evenings on the deck and the wonderful breakfasts in the morning. We also observed much of the native wildlife walking across the property and got many beautiful pictures. We even took family pictures on the property which came out great. The attention to detail by the owner is wonderful and the available pictures on the website detailed everything to expect. What to expect at Gilligan’s beach house and places to go and see. He left nothing out. If you are a stay at home type, the movies and books provided are plentiful. Most resorts you have to pay to do laundry, not here. Washer and dryer provided with detergent provided for free, which came in very handy on our daily visits to the beach. Seattlite says that she can't recommend this cottage to any one. Maybe she means 'anyone with paranoid fears'. We plan on many more great vacations in Kauai and are looking forward to many more stays at Gilligan’s Beach Cottage in the future. Planning a family trip at any of the big time resorts would have cost us much more and offered so much less than this experience.
While looking for availability to again rent Gilligan's Cottage for next year, I saw a review from "Seattlite" on her stay at Gilligan's. I am amazed that Seattlite and I could have such different experiences in the same cottage. I stayed there last July and fell in love with the cottage and Moloa'a Valley. I loved the privacy and yes, even without blinds on the windows it is very secluded and private. It is surrounded by jungle but within minutes you can be at one of the most beautiful, uncrowded beaches on the whole island. The cottage is absolutely charming in every respect and has everything you could possibly need to make the stay perfect. The location is convenient to visit all of the interesting sights and activities the island has to offer. I can't remember if the pillowcases were "completely frayed", but it sure didn't ruin my trip! The place was so clean and charming, I will continue to plan my vacations to stay at the same place. The owners were so accomodating and treated me like they had known me their whole lives. There was nothing "scary" about the cottage and its location. It is truly a relaxing vacation environment! I feel bad for Seattlite that she was not able to appreciate what a wonderful location it is.
I just read the critical review by Seattlite, and I am wondering if she even stayed in the same cottage that we stayed in, because we loved the place and did not find Gilligan's Beach Cottage to be anything as bad as she is trying to make it out to be. To begin with the we loved the openness of the cottage - so many windows to look out at the beautiful tropical landscape. The place seemed larger than it was because of the windows not being covered. The decor was very Hawaiian and felt homey with personal touches. It was supplied with all we needed - in the kitchen, down to Olive Oil and tea bags and for the beach it had the beach chairs and beach toys. We felt right at home. It was centrally located which made it easy to visit different sites. We did have trouble with the telephone and the toilet (nothing big) but the owner took care of it right away. We would highly recommend it and hope to go back.
We spent 10 wonderful days at Gilligan’s cottage immediately following the disgruntled renter who wrote a previous review and apparently left after one night (March, 2013). Since we and the previous renter stayed at the same cottage and shared the same amenities within one week of each other, we can only assume that her needs and expectations were quite a bit different than ours. It sounds like she would have been more comfortable staying at a hotel or condo. However, WE really enjoyed the privacy, the wildlife, the bright stars at night, the gorgeous lush landscaping and a very charming cottage. She mentioned no shades on the windows. It never entered our minds to have them as the foliage gave us complete privacy, and we would never have used them had they been there. The cottage is a darling, happy abode. We were impressed with the overall maintenance of the property and the attention to details, including comfortable sleeping quarters, a well-stocked kitchen, and an abundant supply of books and movies. Actually, we didn’t turn the television on even once while we stayed at Gilligan’s. It would have been a distraction from the gorgeous environment and experiences we had while on Kauai. We were also impressed with an assortment of snorkeling gear, beach mats and towels, and beach chairs for us to use. We couldn’t have been happier walking to what was almost our own private bay, not seeing more than a half dozen local people there. If you’re looking for a Motel 6 or Marriott experience, then Gilligan’s cottage may not be for you. However, if you want to experience the beauty of the jungle in a delightful rural neighborhood with beautiful landscaping, a 4-minute walk to the ocean, and a charming cottage surrounded by coconut trees and a multitude of indigenous fruit trees, we would encourage anyone to rent Gilligan’s cottage. It provided a respite from our daily routines and a very enjoyable vacation experience for us. We couldn’t have asked for more, and we would definitely go back; we’ve already encouraged others to stay there. It was a piece of heaven.
We loved this cottage! It is completely private, located in a beautiful garden filled with fruit trees. We love grilling on the deck and watching the mountains. The beach is a short walk and is the best on the island. There is a washer and dryer, nice kitchen and a fantastic outdoor shower. Truly a Hawaiian experience.
This was our 3rd time me and my family of 4 stayed at Gilligans and two weeks went by way too fast. Getting away from work for two weeks was difficult and I had to spend the first 2 days of vacation finishing up a grant application for a client. Fortunately the wi fi work perfectly...very fast actually. Oh yeah, I was also able to catch Tour de France video highlights everyday...and again...the wi fi was great. But hey, I came here to get away from that stuff...finally after about 3-4 days, I had finally disengaged from work and my busy pace and settled into the island lifestyle. No better place to do that than Gilligans. I love opening all the windows and letting the trade winds loft through the cottage. The sound of the birds and breeze blowing through the trees is very relaxing. We discovered that the cottage is well stocked with Hawaiin music which we enjoyed often. Both the cottage and the big yard are perfectly maintained and well manicured. In fact the cottage had a freash coat of new paint applied just before we arrived. Walking to the beach takes less then 5 minutes, I know because we went there several times each day and many evenings. The beach forms a beautiful arc around Molaa bay with distinctive black lava rock above the white sand beach. The water is so blue and teaming with life as we discovered on numerous snorkeling adventures. We even saw a rare Monk Seal sunning itself on the outer fringe of the beach. Something new to see and enjoy each time we went to the beach....just could get enough of that. Can't wait to go back!!! Thanks for a great vacation experience!!
We loved being at Gilligan's by Moloa'a Bay. The close location to the beach is wonderful. Though we’ve explored Moloa’a Bay many times, this week we found ourselves often at the reef on the north side of the bay rather than our usual place at the reef on the south side - both good, each one different. LOVED the outdoor shower and the solar hot water. The living space is so comfortable - light and airy with the tall ceiling. The kitchen is great - everything we need there for we two. We really like being out of the main tourist zones, and Gilligan's is perfect - a relaxing walk to the beach - one of my favorite places on the planet. And be sure to go to nearby Larson's Beach as you might see some Monk seals. Explore any of the beaches on this magnificent northeast corner of Kauai - you won't be disappointed! We’d love to visit Gilligan’s again sometime!
My husband and I stayed here for the last stop of our honeymoon. Although Kauai was not our favorite of the islands, this cottage was great. Except for the roosters. They literally started crowing at 2am one night, and didn't stop til the next day. But you're going to get the roosters no matter where you stay in Kauai. The owner said it would take a couple nights to get used to them and he was right. By the third night, I was starting to sleep through them. Other than the roosters, this was a wonderful place. Definitely away from the touristy areas, but not a long drive. The beach is just down the hill. We saw turtles from the shore. The cottage itself was just the right size for the two of us and had a nice outdoor shower. The grounds are well kept and beautiful. Lots of dvd's and books to chose from in the cottage. Enjoyed some good old Gilligan's Island episodes :) Snorkeling gear provided as well! A great way to end our honeymoon. Thanks so much!
This place is great. Papaya trees, avocado tree, limes and other citrus on deck. Beach a short walk down the hill. Nice waves to the right, mellow on the left. It was perfect for my wife and I. Adventure time.
My husband and I recently spent a week at Gilligans! We absolutely LOVED it! What a perfect fit for us!! Cute, quaint, cozy, homey, beautiful and peaceful are just a few ways to describe it! The beach at Moloaa Bay is perfect! The water was wonderful, the beach peaceful! I'm so glad that we chose to stay here and we will definitely be back again. If you are a resort type of a person then this probably wouldn't be a good choice for you! But if you want non touristy and privacy then please choose Gilligans! We felt as if we were at home there! Can't say enough! Aloha!
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Gilligan's Cottage. Felt like a home away from home. The cottage was exactly what we anticipated. It was clean and well kept. We were close enough (15-20 min) to Kapaa where we could buy groceries and such but far enough to feel secluded and quiet. The beach was a stroll down the road and not busy which was wonderful. We explored most of the island and didn't feel like we were far from anything. It was a perfect home base. Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting something other than a hotel or resort experience. Looking forward to returning. The owner was very easy to deal with and made the whole booking process a breeze. Mahalo and aloha!
