Disconnect from the fast pace of life at the Perfect Riffle Cabin. Enjoy this off-the-grid cabin in the heart of the Sapphire Mountains on the world famous Rock Creek. Our cabin offers the perfect base camp to enjoy all that Southwest Montana has to offer: private river frontage to pristine trout waters, breathtaking hiking trails, big game hunting, or just a quiet place to get away and refresh.
Our rustic cabin set in the mountain valley is equipped with solar power to allow visitors to escape from home without leaving all the comforts behind. Two pull down ladders** enable access to lofts on either side. One loft has a full-size bed, while the other loft has two extra-long twin beds with trundles under each. For those that would rather not climp the pull-down ladder to access the lofts, there is a queen-size sleeper sofa on the main floor.
Although the cabin does have running water, it is equipped with an outhouse and not an indoor toilet. It does have hot water and a basic shower to rinse off after a day of fishing on the water.
This cabin truly allows you to disconnect - there is no cell service or wifi. For most carriers the cell service ends at the interstate turn-off, a great signal to our family that our relaxing vacation away is beginning!
From the front porch you can walk down the path to our river frontage and rock steps to the waters edge. Either throw in a line or cozy up in our adirondak chair with a great book. There is a rustic sandbox near the rivers edge for the kids, as well as horseshoe pits. Wind down in the evenings with a fire in the pit while everyone tells fish stories.
The entire 40 mile road through the Sapphire Mountains highlights many of the trails that spring from the roads edge. Hike through huckleberry patches or to raspberry bushes and enjoy the sweet morsels, if the black bears haven't gotten to them first!
This little gem is our family’s happy place and where our best memories are made. We would love the chance to share it with you!

The cabin is super cute. We had a great time relaxing down by the river and playing games at the picnic tables. My only advice...bring your own knives. Glad my husband carries a pocket knife or cooking would been a little interesting.
This place was the perfect cabin for my friends and I. We stayed for three nights and were only looking to fish, and relax. It is very easy to accomplish both of those things at this cabin. A couple things to keep in mind are that it is about a 20 mile drive on a gravel road once you turn off the highway. Also, this isn't a cabin in the wild all by itself, it is located in a small area that contains about 6-8 other cabins. None of these things were a problem for us, but if you don't like cruising gravel or want to be truly alone, then this place may not be for you. As for my friends and myself, I would absolutely stay here again with my young family or with a group of adult friends.
We had an amazing time at your cabin! Plenty of room for the kids to run and the river was so much fun to float down. The cabin is perfect for even a family of 7 to stay comfortably. The place was mostly cleaned besides a few things were missed from the people before us, but it wasn't a big deal to us. The only thing we were a little disappointed with is in the photos you don't see any other cabins around this one, which had us very excited considering we have a very loud special needs child. So we were disappointed to see other cabins and a couple pretty close because we didn't want to disturb others. It ended up being ok and I hope he wasn't to loud for them. We did love the spot and really hope to come back again next year!
Our family had a great time- everyone had their own unique take on how beautiful the area is and I can say that is definitely is a phenomenal area to explore. The nearby trails are excellent, off-trail hiking is great as well, and Rock Creek, at the spot where the cabin is located, has some dramatic side canyons that are quite interesting. The fishing was great in Rock Creek. We enjoyed hikes on the Bitterroot Divide, Welcome Creek Wilderness and also from the cabin. There were some huckleberries and lots of wild raspberries where we hiked. The cabin was very well set up to access these and other activities.
We needed a nice quiet getaway, and that is exactly what we got. Totally off the grid, lots of time to play games with my girls. Playing in the river, floating, swimming . Nights for grilling, s’mores eating and star watching. Lots of wild life right outside the door! Cabin is nice, just like the photos. My only advice - Bring tons of bug spray, they where very hungry while were there! 😜
We had a wonderful time at the cabin and found the area beautiful! We saw lots of wild life, picked huckleberries and did some fishing. Our boys loved playing in the creek and our littlest (age 1.5) loved playing in the sandbox as well. We really enjoyed the Welcome Creek trail and a quick trip to Philipsburg was fun. The cabin was very homey and comfortable. All in all we really enjoyed our stay. Thanks for sharing this adorable cabin!
Booking was a wonderful experience, Katrina responded almost immediately to any questions we had about the property and provided very detailed information in her answers. Katrina even helped guide us to a great spot to pick huckleberries and we picked enough to make huckleberry muffins! We absolutely loved being able to fly fish whenever we felt like it. There is even a big rock in the stream upon which you can sit and rest when your legs get tired from wade fishing. We fished every day in the creek, such fun! We found it hard to worry about anything while staying here. The Perfect Riffle cabin is a must for getting away and being unplugged from the troubles of every day city life.
I loved the cabin and the location so much, I never wanted to leave!
We really enjoyed this cabin. We were in need of a family getaway with no internet or outside distractions. The cabin was very well stocked and exactly what the listing stated. The kids loved the river and the hiking. We played many games and had huge bonfires every night with the abundance of wood that was there. We will be returning. Thank you for having us.
We had the best time at this off-the-grid cabin a stone’s throw from Rock Creek. Beautifully built, it has solar power and propane that powered the stove, refrigerator and electrical outlets. My folks slept in foldout sofa on main floor. I actually slept out on covered porch but there are two wonderfully decorated lofts with plenty of additional sleeping space. Beautiful mornings and evenings, deer in field and yard, good fishing. Would highly recommend to anyone and Katrina, the owner, was absolutely delightful!
Great cabin off the beaten path, perfect for a fly fishing getaway. The cabin is exactly as described with no surprises. Bring all the needed supplies for your entire stay if you are looking for a secluded getaway since Clinton and Philipsburg are an hour away. The cabin met all our needs and would easily return if headed to this area again.
Very impressed, great little area, looks like a magazine picture
I wanted no cell service, quiet, beautiful and easy. It was exactly what I got.
Our family of 5 stayed in this cozy cabin for the weekend. We enjoyed having a quiet stay and relaxing by the fire. This place was equipped with most everything you need . I would say make sure you do come prepared with enough food because it is quite a trip to a store but the views are worth it !
Amazing location off the beaten path with a blue ribbon trout stream a stones throw away. Perfect off the grid cabin with a hot shower, fire place, fire pit and squeaky clean outhouse. I caught and released all five species of beautiful trout in Rock Creek. I also, saw numerous wildlife including 4 moose on the river, numerous white tail deer, bald eagle, and big horn sheep. Our host Katrina was super accommodating, responsive and very pleasant to talk to. I would definately recommend staying at the perfect riffle for a family vacation, fishing, hiking wildlife viewing or just a quiet off the grid getaway!
The Moons have created a space in this Pristine piece of Montana that blew me away. I even propped open the door to the outhouse a tad because I didnt sent to miss the view of the mountains as the morning sun filled the little valley with light. It was hard to leave the cabin. Grateful they have made it available to folks to create memories. Perhaps the most peaceful six days in years for me. No cell or internet was a blessing. Fished (caught a few but even more rewarding was being a part of the gorgeous scenes surrounding the river!), hiked, watched the fire, carved some drumsticks....Thanks Katrina and Preston!
We had a lovely time along the river.
My husband and I needed a quiet peaceful getaway and this cabin did just that. :) It was 20 miles either way from any town, and the drive on the dirt road going in was slow and a little sketchy in places especially if you had oncoming traffic...recommend coming in from the Missoula side, road was a little better and wider. We loved the scenery, the sound of the stream, and the smell of the pines. Only thing that was concerning was dog next door who was very vocal and didn't listen when called back by owner. It was very hot the first night we were there with no breeze and the fan from upstairs was our saving grace. The next day was beautiful with a little rain shower and the smell was amazing again and the whole day was cool :) We did have hot water and the shower was small but felt amazing. We slept on the sofa bed in living room with a foam topper on it, and with no curtains on big bay windows you could see the stars at night really well. I recommended some sliding curtains to not take away from the view but for privacy at night and to help alleviate some heat during the day. My husband uses a C-Pap machine and we had no problems running it all night and cleaning it the next day. We took all of our own food in and heated water up on stove to cook our dehydrated meals. Fridge and freezer worked great. It was our first time using VRBO and will definitely be using it again.
This is a nice cabin located in a very scenic area. The cabin has plenty of sleeping space. It is clean and cozy. We enjoyed fishing in the area.
My son and I had a great time at Perfect Riffle cabin. I think we fished 8 miles or so of Rock Creek before we left. Over the years there are a few more fisherman on the Creek, but doesn’t seem to affect the fishing. In fact, better this year than in recent years. Everything at cabin worked great. Cabin is not on grid but solar power system worked well. In past years we have camped at the Forest Service campground a mile above the cabin. This year it was great to have comfortable beds and hot shower available at the cabin, and super nice to switch on coffee maker in the morning. More hummingbirds at one window than I could have imagined. Lots of eagles around this year, and mink (?). Kitchen was quite functional and had everything we needed. Loved sitting on porch in Adirondack chairs in the evening. Close enough to creek to hear the water all night. The Moons were great hosts, and we definitely hope to return.
Small but everything you need.
Had a great time getting out of town for a quick two nights and not being able to get contacted via cell phone or email. Great walk out fishing and cool hikes. Cabin is cozy and has everything you need. They even left us some wood to burn outside.
We had a wonderful time at the cabin - very relaxing to be able to 'come home' from fishing each evening and enjoy a barbeque and campfire. AND - be advised that the 'outdoor toilet' is just as comfy as the cabin, complete with twinkle lights. Don't let that feature deter you from booking this property!!
Our family of five had a wonderful time! Easy access and great location to good fishing.
This vacation home located along Rock Creek, was beyond my expectation. Surrounded by indescribable beauty. We unplugged from society and enjoyed God’s Country!
We had a great long weekend away at this cozy cabin in rock creek, we fished, hiked, flew kites, enjoyed sitting by the campfire and bbqing. The kids loved climbing the trees and playing board games. What a great spot to spend time with family. Thanks for sharing your cabin with us...
We couldn’t have had a nicer time. I loved the chipmunks in the woodpile and they’re not joking about the cleanest outhouse ☺️
My wife and I really enjoyed our stay! Spent the remains of each day around the fire pit enjoying a drink and the quiet sounds of the woods. All the amenities were as advertised. We’ll plan to come again. Katrina Moon was a fabulous host! Thanks again so very much, Katrina.
Love this little place! Good games, close to the river, beautiful scenery, and GREAT fishing all around you!!
Although it was a long drive up the mountain on an unpaved road, the payoff was worth it!!! Beautiful, serene and peaceful describe this fantastically rustic and charming Mountain oasis
Very comfy cabin. The best family vacation ever. We went hiking, fishing, and floating. Thank you for all the thoughtful touches. It truly felt like home.
This was such a lovely cabin to stay at. We really enjoyed the screened in porch, all the wildlife, and access to the river. Perfect for a relaxing vacation on Rock Creek! Thanks! We will definitely stay again!
We had a great time lots of fish and water from 1700 to 2700 CFS. From the beautiful browns rainbows and brookies you really can’t beat it. I love the cabin especially when it rained for 14 hours. Great to be back at rock creek, and I look forward to the next one. Maybe we can bring the kids and more family next time-lots of other activities too. I wish I’d have brought sugar for the hummingbirds-next visit. Thanks to Katrina and Preston for the great hospitality and fishing advice.
We had a fabulous time at this cabin. Plenty of things to do. We didn’t fish only because the river was at a record high. Horseshoe competition, s’mores, and frisbee was a blast. We hiked over the swing bridge trail. We came across a moose cooling off in the river. Wow that was awesome! The cabin has all the accommodations and the beds are cozy. On our drive home we started planning our next trip to this cabin.
Amazing fishing, bears, deer, and big horn sheep what more could you ask for in a Montana vacation? This was our second trip to the Rock Creek river as part of our annual fly fishing / camping trip, but our first staying in a cabin. Ultimately, it was the best decision. The cabin was very offered up a rustic feel while offering the comfort of a good nights rest and protection for our gear while we fished, went to town or just explored the terrain. Our primary focus was fishing the well known river (and the fishing was fantastic), but also found plenty of time to enjoy the large fields (competing in bocce, disc golf, and corn hole) surrounding the property. We had an amazing time and would definitely come back!!
Fantastic fishing get away
Two of my buddies came up from Denver for a fishing trip, and this place was a perfect home base for a couple of nights. Easy access to the river. We fished late into the night with headlamps, then walked back to the cabin and relaxed by the camp fire. We all were delightfully surprised by how comfy the beds were. The kitchen has everything you need including running water, refrigerator, coffee maker, and stove. There was even some coffee and condiments there for us to use. We prepared some great meals. We loved this place and would definitely go back. But I'll share some advice so people know what they're getting into. The place is 21 miles away from the interstate, and the road to get there is a bit bumpy and dirt for over half. You're at least 15 miles from any store so make sure you've got everything you need before you get there. With that, there is no cell service at the cabin (a good thing in my opinion!). We were there in mid July, and knew the place would be hot since it has no A/C. So we immediately opened the windows (which have screens) upon arrival and the place cooled down to comfortable temp pretty quickly. There are no fans, but we didn't really need one anyway. The area can get a little buggy, so keep the doors shut. We ate our meals in the sunroom to enjoy the mountain air while remaining protected from the sun and the bugs. The restroom is an outhouse, but it was the nicest outhouse any of us had ever been in. Zero complaints about this place. It had some simple luxuries and a nice homey feel to it. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone unless you are very high maintenance.
