Merging Waters is a gated property, on 7+ acres just off of US Highway 259 in the Ouachita Mountains, which is one of the oldest mountain ranges in the United States. On the property is a one-of-a-kind, split-level native stone cabin, ( 700+ sq Ft.) whose walls date to the 1950’s.
A custom-made spiral oak staircase leads to the sleep loft bedroom and bathroom. There is one queen size bed and the bath has a shower with handheld wand or rain shower heads options.
From the dormer, french doors open onto an elevated open-air deck. It has a beautiful view of the mixed deciduous and evergreen native forest, as well as one of the two creeks that merge on the property.
An outside staircase decends into the fenced backyard. Big Eagle is a beautiful spring-fed creek behind the cabin with easy access for fishing. It also has an incredible deepwater hole. A little further downstream, but still on Merging Waters property, Cucumber Creek merges with it.
The main floor is open-concept, and a custom-built spiral staircase separates the lounging area from the self-catering kitchen area. The lounging area is complete with leather couch containing double-recliners, a built-in bookshelf, flat screen TV with Dish but no pay-per-view. There is an oak Armoire for guests convenience so a lot of luggage doesn’t have to be carried up the spiral staircase. It has room for both hanging and folded clothes storage and also houses various games. Please note: there is a 250 lb total weight limit on the stair case, so if the couples combined weight exceeds that, they will need to only have one person on it at a time.)
Just beyond the Armoire beneath a large picture window, is an oak library desk/table with lamp large enough for a laptop computer. It also contains information about sites to see in and around the area and a journal where guests can add reflections on stay.
On the other side of the staircase is a complete kitchen, with full size appliances, including electric stove and oven, side-by-side refrigerator/freezer with ice in the door, microwave, dishwasher, coffee pot with complimentary coffee and tea, and an oak dining table. There is
also a soapstone stove but due to the age of the chimney, it is for ornamental purposes only (No fires).
However just outside the back kitchen door leading into the backyard, is a covered patio and further in the yard a fire pit with bench so our couple guests can snuggle while enjoying a nice crackling fire with the wood provided in the backyard fire rack. There is also a charcoal grill in the backyard (guests should bring charcoal).
Just beyond the back gate is a fish cleaning station for any anglers. Please note that the hose for the fish cleaning station hooks up on the side of the house. FYI - We are on a rural water system (not well water) so please be sure the water is turned off and hose disconnected after using the fish cleaning area. Please also be sure and dump any fish waste back to the creek to feed the ones that got away????, rinse bucket and return for the next lucky angler.
Fish caught in the creek include walleye, small mouth, sun perch, pike. Fishing may be good or bad depending on a lot of factors including whether the river otters have been through recently. Good news is, if our guests happen to be here at the same time as the otters, it can be just as entertaining to watch them teaching their babies how to fish as catching one of
Please note the following: There is no pay-per-view and No Internet, this is a couples-only cabin not suitable for children. No pets and no parties or meetings are allowed. Also be advised: phone service may be spotty, depending on guests carrier and climatic conditions.
Due to the mountainous area which has lots of wildlife we request that you not leave doors standing open. No hunting or shooting allowed.
It was very nice perfect for our 18 anniversary. The river in the back yard is absolutely beautiful
We had a very good time here, it was a beautiful place for my girlfriend and i to get away and relax for the weekend. Our hostess went out of her way to make sure we knew how to get there and that we enjoyed our time. We will definitely be returning. We suggest this property to anyone who would like a nice time away for a few days.
Our 2nd time here. It is wonderful. Beautiful river. Great fire pit ample wood and a cute comfy cottage. Perfect host.
The hostess met us to show us around. Fire pit was ready to go. We have rented a lot on VRBO and never have we been so pleased. We will be booking more time tomorrow.
The cabin was perfect - quiet, comfortable, relaxing and very clean. The owner treats the property very well. She has put in a lot of little touches that makes the cabin so comfortable and enjoyable. My husband and I spent four nights. We visited the local state parks and went fishing. We saw a large eagle on the creek and deer in the yard. I would pick this cabin if I was going back to the area. We loved our time there.
Just as described, wonderful creek at the back with soothing sound!
This property was so nice and rustic and quiet. It has easy access to the nearby State Hwy- so finding it was a breeze. But get in touch with Merging Waters before you lose cellphone service- because you won't have any there either! (which was perfectly fine with me!) That was the only hiccup we had. The cabin was very clean. The amenities were all as described. The dual-head rain shower was a surprising luxury that I didn't expect! What a treat! The kitchen was well stocked with all the right utensils and options. Cucumber Creek was lovely! I can't believe that was right in the backyard. We fished all day- we had beautiful weather. We both caught several fish, sun fish and perch. Too small to keep- but still fun to catch. We didn't even use bait! Just lures. Keep an eye out for the creepy crawlies- snakes, walking sticks, praying mantis, daddy long legs, ticks and bees...they're all out there! But God's Country is wonderful. And the Merging Waters cabin showcases it all.
The property is more beautiful than pictures can show. Keep in mind, this is very much in the country, so general outdoor/water/weather precautions apply! But either swimming or just sitting by the water listening was exactly what was needed to decompress. The cabin was clean, modern, and with all amenities. Janet was very responsive and thoughtful about making sure my husband and I had the best trip possible. I also was very impressed and comforted by her adherence to CDC recommendations for vacation rentals during the pandemic. 100% would return- the property would be beautiful and enjoyable all seasons! Thank you, Janet! Kris & Charlie
Great place to stay away from the city, fish were caught right out the back creek and if it wouldn't have e rained the hole time I think I alot more would have been caught , I would stay again for sure
My wife and I really enjoyed our time away from the city. Very nice quaint cabin in the woods and the history of the place just enhanced the charm. Great Place to go to get away.
We had wonderful, peaceful and relaxed time at Merging Waters. The home was quaint, but beautiful and well appointed. Plus the pictures don’t do justice to the beauty of the location! Whether we were sitting by a fire, fishing, or just relaxing in the hammock there was always something beautiful to see. We will certainly return!
