Nevada City: The Spring and Fall in Nevada City are not to be missed, this small Gold Mining town is a definite destination for a week (or weekend) of fun. There are several wineries in the area as well as many fine restaurants, and antique stores. Both Empire Gold Mine and Malakoff Diggings are open for tours. Grocery stores, hospital and other services less than 5 miles away.
SUMMER USE: April, May and June are my favorite months at Watanda, the days are warm and evenings are long. There are numerous lakes in the area and Yuba River is 3 miles away. Hwy 20 has many Equestrian trails and staging areas. The fairground is close by and has a variety of antique and quilt shows, horse events and home shows.
WINTER USE: Nevada City and Grass Valley both have weekly Christmas Fairs in December offering many local artisans. Great location for Tahoe skiers who do not want to pay resort prices. Cross country skiing 45 minutes away on Hwy 20, snow play less than 20 minutes up Hwy 20. We had a great time! Cabin was cute and had all the amenities we needed. Close to great spots on the Yuba, with kayaks and assorted watercraft to use on the pond. Great, quick getaway!
My family had a wonderful 3 nights here and we are already talking about our next visit!!
Cute cabin with nice space outside for kids to run around. Very comfortable.
Wonderful quiet place. Kathryn communicated very clearly there was no water in the lake when I was there, and it was still very beautiful and quiet! I didn't realize when I rented the cabin there was no cel service or internet at the cabin, and the two tv's there were not hooked up. But that turned out to be a great opportunity to unplug completely. The cabin is charming, with nice details and beautiful surroundings, only 10 minutes to town. They clearly know what they're doing in organizing things perfectly for a place like this, and I really enjoyed the stay. I supposed one suggestion might be that the full carpeting in the bedroom seems to hold pet smell a lot, maybe a throw-rug would work as well and keep the air a bit better? But overall, the place was comfortable, quiet, beautiful, and well cared for. What a great little retreat space -- very quiet and close to town!
We were looking for a place to stay away from fireworks to take our two little dogs and this place was perfect! It was quiet, peaceful & just relaxing. We loved the lake & canoeing. The price was great & the hosts were friendly. We would stay here again, maybe a n ew yearly tradition!
Great property to relax and enjoy Lake Vera. They've got you covered with canoes, kayaks, paddleboards and life jackets for everyone so you can be safe. Highly recommend.
what a relaxing time. love the daily patrol of the geese families with their goslings on and around the lake. the young deer were also something to take time to watch as they move around with a daily route. Being on the lake once with a canoe and then in kayaks was a high light the property offers. the lodging is very good, we wanted for nothing. We had a very nice time and recommend this getaway to all.

Beautiful location and quiet mountain get away!
We had the best time at this cabin. My wife and I enjoyed our weekend getaway and unplugging. There is cable tv and you can walk a short distance on the property to get wifi if you want. There is a landline phone that you can also use. The heater worked great. The kitchen had everything you could want. The lake and property was very peaceful! The bed was comfortable as well. We look forward to going back!
Place was very clean and well kept. The lake was fun and it was close to Nevada city.
We took an extended weekend for my son's birthday, and this place was perfect for us. Even though the lake wasn't filled, we enjoyed exploring around the property and checking out Nevada City and Grass Valley. The hosts were very friendly and made sure that we had everything we needed. We look forward to coming back!
