Spacious Sisters House is perfect for families or girlfriends getaways.
Amish buggies clip-clop past on the road, and chimes can be heard from a nearby church. This historic structure once housed a cigar factory - and the decor reflects those by-gone days. Modern amenities are included in an I-Pod Docking Station, DVD's, TVs wit Roku and Netflix, WI-FI, Dream Machines, dishwasher, washer/dryer, central A/C, and stereo. The upstairs bathroom includes a one-person Jacuzzi tub.
There is easy access to the first floor queen bedroom and full bathroom with walk-in shower - great for folks that don't want to deal with stairs. Two more bedrooms are upstairs - one has a king bed and the other a queen.
The sunroom overlooks the Weaverland Valley - some of the richest farmland in Lancaster County, The Sisters House sits on a dead-end road, adjacent to the flower gardens of The Artist's Inn. A short walk will take you to the town park that includes tennis courts, basketball courts, a sand volleyball court, picnic areas and plenty of space for kite-flying.
Kitchen comes complete with your first breakfast and includes home-baked goodies from the inn and a full cookie jar. This vacation rental uses green energy - solar panels on the roof provide the electricity for this historic 200 year old structure.
Enjoy the outside as well - there is plenty of room for gathering in the covered porch. You'll find plenty of seating and a hammock. You are also welcome to use the adjoining firepit area that belongs to The Arti'st's Inn - our bed and breakfast.
Terre Hill is surrounded by farms, so fresh produce is nearby. There's an organic cheese maker just down the street and Shady Maple's Farmers Market and Smorgasbord is just three miles away.
The quaint little town of Adamstown is just a ten minute drive - known as The Antiques Capital of the USA.
Bring your walking shoes and bicycles...there are nearby trails, hikes and our back roads invite you to explore on your own.
No house parties
The beds were very comfy, the location was perfect, the owner was friendly and helpful and the home was beautiful!! We will be back many times!!!
This house was perfect for my girls trip. The house was clean and had everything you could need. The sun room in the back was the perfect hang out spot. We had no trouble getting Ubers from the house to dinner and wineries. The owners left some baked goods and the cookie jar was full. Only problem was the TV in the upstairs bedroom would turn itself on and off I just left it unplugged. I also left my pillow there by accident.
My two adult daughters and I do a long weekend get away each year. We chose to go to Lancaster PA this year. We stayed in the Sophie suite and it was just perfect. The place was clean and inviting. We had a chance to visit with Jan and what a wonderful lady! This was by far the best trip we have done. And whenever we are traveling to this area we will stay here again and again. It was a terrific place to relax and enjoy my girls.
This trip was two adult daughters with their mother for a two night getaway. Everything was exactly as advertised. The house was very clean and there was a personal note with a jar of cookies and lemon bar baked goods on the table. There were a few quirks that were very well explained in the information packet as well as labeled on the item (for example there is a propane fire pit available for use that explained to use the lighter provided in the kitchen drawer to light it and when turning it off to use the provided work glove as it gets very hot. We were able to enjoy the fire pit just fine with these instructions.) We had everything we needed. Fully stocked kitchen (they left us eggs and cheese and sausage and cereal and milk and OJ as promised)... we cooked one meal and had everything we needed. There were towels and soaps for us. We commented many times that they really had thought of everything. We had no problem syncing in to the WiFi on our phones, however the ONLY thing that wasn’t perfect was when we tried to use the provided Roku to watch an Amazon Prime (included) movie. The signal strength of the WiFi was “poor” and could not handle it. We ended up bypassing the Roku and logging on to the TV using our own Netflix account and were able to watch the movie that way. Jan was very informative before our trip. We didn’t need her during our stay so we didn’t try to contact her but her cell was easily found if we did need her. It was a very very nice time had by all.
Everything was great. All positive. Tried to watch TV but could not get good reception or maybe it was the operator!😀Bruce was very nice and understanding even when we arrived 1/2 hour early and entered the wrong unit. Would definitely stay again and very clean.
What a wonderful gift to have breakfast ready for you. And the cookies and brownies…delicious!!
My family stayed three nights and had a great time. The location is about 30 minutes from several of the activities we wanted to check out. We found the beds to be very comfortable and the space to be more than plenty for us. My questions were answered quickly and I especially appreciated the way they had to set up with plenty to get started in terms of food. When we did want to cook, there was plenty of pots and pans and utensils, which I especially appreciate. If we come back again to the area we will certainly look to stay here again.
It was a very short stay for us I wish we would have had more time to enjoy the area and the house. The owners were very nice and the house clean. Homemade chocolate chip cookies were awesome!
Met our good friends here for a 3 day getaway. Sophie House was just right for us. The stocked fridge and cookie jar made us feel right at home. Jan and Bruce were there when we needed them to answer questions, but did not hover. Jan’s list of nurseries to buy plants was accurate and funny!! We will be back in the fall to see those lovely trees explode with color. Thank you!
An absolutely beautiful place to stay, inside and out. It was perfect for us. We truly felt like guests and had a lovely experience!
We enjoyed every aspect of renting the Sisters House, from communicating with the responsive and friendly owners, to the peaceful stay at the house - our favorite part was having meals in the sunroom while gazing out into the farmlands with buggies passing by, to the many day trips we made. We ventured out to: - Harpers Ferry, WV - loved the scenery and history! - Baltimore, Philadelphia - enjoyed early spring blossoms and downtown architecture - York, Lancaster, Columbia, Ephrata - all nice towns with enjoyable historic districts to stroll - Susquehannock State Park - short hikes to beautiful river overlooks - Elk Neck State Park - great views of Chesapeake Bay
Lovely countryside cottage! Stayed there with my husband and another couple and had a great time. Kitchen was fully stocked and the host provided cookies and breakfast supplies. The sun room was a highlight for us and it was quite cozy and had great views.
Sophie side of the Sister’s house was nice, convenient location, cookies were delicious, too!
The carriage house was a nice place for our family to stay for our trip to the Lancaster area. We aren't city people, so we appreciated being out of the hustle & bustle of Lancaster itself. Jan was thoughtful to leave a snack for our first night along with a full cookie jar, and she took dietary needs into consideration for stocking the kitchen with breakfast for our first morning. The downstairs bedroom is small, but perfect for those like us with injuried hips and knees.
Had a wonderful, relaxing time at Sophie's House! Just as described. Fresh cookies and baked goods plus a fridge full of breakfast food in the fridge. Plenty of coffee and tea! Roku was a plus. Walking distance to a couple of great local joints including a great pizza place. Was super comfortable. The beds were awesome. The location is great especially if you are doing some local shopping and hitting the city every now and then but dont want to stay in the city. Beautiful countryside. Would recommend to anyone. Thanks!
The owners are friendly and the location is a peacful oasis off of main street.
Very relaxing stay
Staying at the Sophie House at the Artists’ Inn was a lovely experience. The apartment was just as described and then some. Fresh-baked cookies and fresh-baked banana bread awaited us in the kitchen, and we very much enjoyed eating our evening dinners out by the fire pit. The kitchen is well-stocked with nearly every appliance imaginable, and we had no problem cooking our meals in the kitchen. The grounds are incredibly well-kept and well-decorated, the artistic touches adding to the peaceful enjoyment of our experience. The beds were comfortable, the house charmingly decorated, and the surrounding farmland peaceful and bucolic. If you stay at the Sophie House, be sure to drop in and say hi to your hosts at the Artists Inn. Jan and Brad have a very charming inn filled with priceless antiques and Brad’s comical sketches and artwork. They will be happy to offer tips on the best places to visit in Lancaster County.
Central to the Lancaster area in a small town. Nice and quiet! Jan and Bruce were super friendly and helpful. The stocked refrigerator and delicous home baked goods put this over the top! Do not pass up looking through Bruce's art gallery that puts a humorous twist on the English language We will be back
I stayed there with my mom, aunts and cousin to go fabric shopping. Jan sent me a list of where to go, and was so helpful and responded right away when we had questions. The house is lovely, perfect size for us all. It was nice to have a comfortable place to stay after we shopped. If we come back I'll be booking again!
Jan was so nice. Just wish it had a Room with two single beds. Homemade cookies and brownies were yummy.
We had a wonderful weekend away in this home. We were traveling with another family and had 4 children under the age of 4 with us and we were all perfectly comfortable. We very much appreciated the tips and information Jan provided and it helped us plan our itinerary for the weekend. It was also so helpful to arrive to a fridge stocked with milk and eggs and other breakfast items- we got there late on Friday so this meant we didn't have to worry about breakfast on Saturday. My husband and I also made the unfortunate mistake of accidentally throwing away a small bag with souvenirs that we had bought. We only realized this once we returned home. Jan was able to retrieve it and mail it back to us and we were so grateful! We would definitely stay here again.
We had a wonderful stay in Terre Hill! Jan was wonderful. She greeted us when we arrived and showed us the amazing flowers in her garden. Some of the flowers bloom as the sun sets; my entire family found this extremely exciting! This sums up our visit. Things were simple and exciting at the same time. The house was lovely and clean. There was a fabulous playground about 2 blocks away which is much nicer than other playgrounds I’ve been to. The neighborhood was quiet. We walked around for a few hours and loved seeing the horse and buggies. I highly recommend staying at Jan’s place!!!!
The attention to detail, the hospitality shown to us by Jan and Bruce, the condition and furnishings of the property were all outstanding in every respect. We look forward to staying here again and highly recommend it.
Great space and well stocked . Great location !
We recently just returned from a 3 day stay at the Carriage House at the Artist Inn. It was wonderful!! Not only was it spacious and inviting, but we had all the amenities of home at our fingertips. We were welcomed with homemade cookies and lemon squares and a feast for breakfast the next day!! It is a perfect spot for families - each of our boys had their own room and my husband and I stayed on the main level. The inn keepers, Bruce and Jan, were knowledgable about the area and provided us with many ideas of fun things to do in the immediate surroundings - even including a playground down the street from the Carriage House that we took the kids to during our stay! I highly recommend the Carriage House for anyone looking for more space or just to retreat in a peaceful environment.
My husband and I just enjoyed our second visit to this beautiful converted carriage house in the lovely town of Terre Hill, PA. The first time we shared the accommodations with another couple, longtime friends. This time we had the 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom residence to ourselves. Either way, this is definitely a comfortable and welcoming place for a vacation. The entire property was extremely clean both inside and out. We had everything we needed including convenient parking and the attention of the owners whenever we had questions. We would definitely recommend this for families, friends, long or short vacations. Jan and Bruce are both very active in the community and have made a point of finding out what attractions, restaurants and activities are within easy traveling distance and are worth recommending. You can always trust their judgement. Make sure to take time to visit the Artist's Inn and Gallery on the same property and see the colored pencil drawings by Bruce. You will be hard pressed not to walk around with a permanent smile. And make sure to check out the cookie jar in the Carriage House. If it's empty, try the pretty blue and white cat cookie jar in the Inn. You will love the treats.
My husband and three kids (ages 6, 4, and 2) just spent a long weekend at the Carriage House and would definitely return for another visit. We thoroughly enjoyed Jan and Bruce's attention to detail (such as all the fixings for us to prepare a breakfast feast and freshly baked scones waiting for us). We loved eating dinner on the deck and enjoying the views of the beautiful countryside. The Carriage House is perfectly positioned to take advantage of nearby attractions in Lancaster, and we also felt as if we were able to observe authentic Amish culture from the quaint town of Terre Hill.
