This apartment in a renovated barn-type building was a great size for a couple (and maybe a child or two). It was recently and beautifully renovated. The bedroom was a good size and was separated from the living room and kitchen area. The apartment was nicely appointed. We were pleasantly surprised to find a bag of coffee and bottles of water in the fridge. The house is in a farm area and very quiet and peaceful. We enjoyed staying there and the price was fair.
My partner & I wanted to get out of Boston and enjoy the Berkshires. We planned on taking in a couple of hikes, visiting local breweries, downtown shops and local restaurants. We enjoyed our stay immensely! The apartment is beautiful & cozy--the pictures do not do it justice. I wouldn't have minded being snowed in! The property is absolutely beautiful and fun to snowshoe on. The value and location is incredible. We will be back & are currently making our friends jealous with our pictures.
Nice and very clean place. Beautiful area, confortable apartment. Could be perfect if there was a courtain in the window above the bed; and most important if walls were better sound insulated or there were no neighbors. While neighbors are respectful, it is imposible to ignore sound of TV, conversations and footsteps. The whole idea of going to a place at a big state and away from people is killed by having such paper thin walls. If wasn't for this would give a 5 start review.
Although this was a great location and had the potential to be the perfect get away spot (perfect size for a couple), there was a wasp invasion within the house that ruined the last night of our stay. The wasps only seemed to come out when the weather warmed up (around 70 degrees) and were crawling in and out of the ceiling with about 10 wasps flying around the unit. It prevented us from enjoying the unit for most of the day and we decided to wait until night fall hoping they'd dissipate. We mentioned it to the owner on the property when we saw him walking about, who seemed to be aware of the situation and downplayed it. Unfortunately, the wasps did not let up when the sun went down and my husband got stung. We ultimately decided to leave the premises on our own accord, not feeling safe enough to sleep in the unit. We tried contacting the property manager of the unit the next day for a refund for the final night. Unfortunately they were not responsive until a formal complaint with VRBO was filed. And even at that point, the property manager did not offer us a satisfactory resolution. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this place as it is currently an unsafe situation to stay in in the warmer weather, especially if you are allergic to wasps or have young children. Given that the property manager and owner were aware of the situation, you would have hoped they would have managed it appropriately but that does not seem to be the case. Stay at your own risk.
Possibly the best VRBO that we have ever stayed at. The cabin is perfect for a couple looking for a small place to stay that has all the comforts of home. The caretaker has done a superb job of putting together a quaint little place. The small kitchen has a great gas stove, new dishwasher, refrigerator and a more than adequate stock of pots, pans and dishes. The cell service and internet are both very good. Plenty of hot water and a strong shower. In addition, there is a washer and drier available for use. The area is great for walking and enjoying the wildlife. Beartown State Forest is only about a mile away for those wanting a bit more excercise. The only minor downside is that the mattress needs replacing. All in all, a place to come back to more than once.
I usually prefer to spend less on my accommodations as I spend little time there other than sleeping. This place was very comfortable and relaxing and was in a beautiful location with just a short drive to downtown as well as hiking and biking trails.
Great space on a large property to wander to a pond, vegetable and flower garden, and herd of cows next door. If you're not used to rural areas, I'd definitely recommend arriving in daylight as the barn can be easy to miss in the dark. We made a stop at the Big Y in Great Barrington for shampoo and some breakfast items to keep in the full kitchen. There is an air conditioner in the bedroom, which makes me wonder if that's how moths kept getting into the room. This may not be an issue in the colder months. All in all, a great stay with helpful hosts when we reached out.
Perfect spot for two people. Very well located. We could go hiking in the morning, visit museums in the afternoon and then go to the theater or Tanglewood at night.
Highly recommend. Hosts Michael, Allison and Michael were wonderful. Very friendly, helpful with directions, recommendations for attractions, and just plain fun to be with.!!
The grounds are beautiful. Tiny but adequate kitchen. Two large nicely appointed rooms. Shower is nice and hot. A minor but significant quibble - they have to improve the soundproofing in the living room which shares a common wall with the caretaker and family who live there.
The apartment is new and very clean and centrally located. A very nice groundskeeper/handyman lives in the apartment next door but the vrbo apartment was private and had two private entrances to get in and out each separate and apart from the handyman’s apartment and entrance. The apartment is ground level only. Gaining access to the apartment was very easy. The location was convenient for touring, according to gps the apartment is in Great Barrington and is: - 10 minute drive west to Great Barrington town - 10 minutes north to Stockbridge town - 18 minutes to Lee town - 19 minutes to Lenox town The apartment itself is brand new and the work inside is all handworked craftsman and done by the groundskeeper. It is larger than it appears in the photos. Walk in closet, plenty of dressers, plenty of sitting spaces, good plumbing, cable and internet worked, good lighting with plenty of outlets even next to both sides of the bed. Kitchen had utensils, wine key, tea pot, coffee maker, etc - only thing the apartment was lacking was a hair dryer which we knew to bring from the listing. The apartment could be okay for more than two people but there is only one bed. There is a couch in the living room that would be okay for a child to sleep on. A couple hundred meters behind the apartment is a small river. In October it had a fair amount of water with a couple of small falls in it, and plenty of sturdy wood/log foot bridges to pass back and forth over it. During the hour walk I took along the river I didn’t see any other people. The pond on the property seems to have a row boat but for an adult the pond appears too small to want to row around, perhaps a child would enjoy it though. I saw a fish in the pond but I didn’t ask if fishing was permitted... This apartment is currently listed only on vrbo- assuming it gets listed on competitor rental sites I expect the number of visitors and views will increase. I would actually rate the apartment 4.5 if possible (vrbo doesn’t permit half stars) because the apartment is not a stand alone apartment. But I’d put it at 5 over 4.
Lovely little cottage. Perfect for two people.
This was our first-time visit to the Berkshires, and we were very happy with the location and amenities in this newly renovated space. We thought the location was ideal, especially for hikers--less than a mile from the Appalachian Trail. And the town of Great Barrington was close enough to enough to enjoy some great restaurants, culture and supplies. The apartment is spacious and equipped with a gourmet kitchen, and there are unique architectural touches. The full-size bed and linens were fine, and the setting is beautiful. There was a helpful handyman on-site, but it was private and quiet. There is one small window-unit air conditioner in the bedroom which kept us cool at night, but there was a record-setting heat wave when we were there, and it wasn't quite enough to cool the entire home; however, they were extremely accommodating with fans and even tried to get another a/c to install, but the town was sold out! We were the first-ever visitors there, and we enjoyed our stay very much.
