The apartment is quite charming and nicely decorated with all the amenities my husband and I needed. We stayed in mid June when there was no road noise at night. The view of the river is spectacular and intimate. It was very relaxing sitting on the deck looking at the birds and the fish. The apartment is in a very convenient location close to the Berkshire Mountain Bakery and easy to get to other parts of the Berkshires we enjoy.
Couldn't be any closer to the water. We spent a lot of time on the deck looking out at the water. Loved walking to wonderful bakery. Convenient location with quick drive to GB.
This place was just a described, situated right on the slow moving Housatonic with lovely views from the deck. Good hiking and good restaurants nearby. The place is clean, tidy and nicely decorated. Bee is a pleasant and responsive host.
This is a great little apartment right on the Housatonic. Beautiful view right from the deck which we enjoyed. The apartment is well equipped and the location is great. Easy access to Great Barrington with Stockbridge, Lee and Lenox nearby. Bee was very easy to deal with - would recommend.
My husband and I had an amazing stay at the river house! We spent a long weekend there and the apartment was clean, cute and had a beautiful view of the lake, where we watched the sunset every night. The location is great, only a few minutes to the town of Great Barrington and a 10 minute drive to Butternut Ski Resort, where we had a ton of fun. Bee was a great host and very communicative and quick to respond when we had any questions. Highly recommend!
My wife and I had a wonderful time at the Riverhouse. This is an antique mill house located on the edge of the Housatonic River. Accommodations are modest and nostalgic, and also extremely clean. The renter was responsive and very helpful when contacted, and made us feel completely welcome and at ease. This rental is conveniently located to cultural, historical and outdoor activities. It's also a wonderful place to just relax. Perhaps the greatest aspect is the view of the river and the forest beyond. With large windows across the back of the living area, and your own walk out deck, it's absolutely amazing! We are already planning to come back.
Just a delightful little spot, gave us just what we needed before winter really kicks into high gear. The view is restorative, the bathtub is incredible. Comfy bed, kitchen had most everything we needed to make meals happen. There are stores close enough that making a quick run for anything we forgot wasn't a hassle. Enjoyed the grill, if it was a little warmer we would have really dug on the deck. Roku made watching streaming services easy for night. Great stargazing right out the back door. Really can't say enough about it, would love to stay here again.
It was great spot for my wife and I. Wonderful view of the river and great spot near hikes. Everything was great!
Very clean & snug, nicely decorated, exactly as shown/described. We had a great time!
We stayed in the riverhouse for a few nights this fall. The view from the back deck is gorgeous. The house feels secluded but is actually very close the house is walking distance to a great bakery (walking distance), restaurants in Great Barrington ( 10 minute drive), and hiking at Monument Mountain ( 5 minute drive).
Our time at the River House met our expectations and more! The apartment was pleasant, clean and welcoming. The kitchen had everything we needed, there were plenty of linens and the beds were very comfortable. The big picture window overlooked the Housatonic River so whether we were inside or outside on the deck, we had a beautiful view. The owners made sure we had everything we needed and responded quickly to any questions we had. We will keep this place on our list of places to return to. We would also recommend the River House to our family and friends.
Had a wonderful time watching the river go by during a long weekend. Got to see a bald eagle! Location was excellent, apartment was tidy and the perfect size for us.
Property was clean and tidy. This worked very well for our purposes.
Enchanting upper floor of a cottage on the shores of the Housatonic River, private and peaceful yet convenient to the many wonderful activities the Berkshires have to offer. There's a lovely porch where you can watch the sunset and later at night, see the Milky Way reflected in the river. The place is immaculate and thoughtfully equipped. Even the dishes are beautiful. Original art on the walls, handmade duvets for the beds...
Great location. Wonderful view. Comfy beds. Clawfoot tub!
Beautifully restored apartment with many thoughtful and artistic touches. We found everything we needed. Spotlessly clean. Great use of space and incredible view.
The space was perfect for me and my girlfriend. The kitchen had all the necessities for cooking. It was just close enough to town for us to easily get anything we could have needed though the house was fully stocked with all the basics and even a few extras we had forgotten ourselves! It was clean and well kept and even historical. The view was spectacular and the owners always made themselves available for anything we could have needed. They even left a little book with places to eat and things to do. Overall a great experience and if we go back to Great Barrington we would not hesitate to stay there for another trip. Very, very impressed.
Along this stretch of the Housatonic River, this vacation rental is the only home that's right on the river, making for spectacular & unobstructed views. There are the islands where geese, blackbirds, & a heron hang out, & thick woods on the other side of the river. Add to that a very bright & pleasant 2 bedroom apartment . . . + nearby Great Barrington, Tanglewood, Jacob's Pillow, & Lenox. Oh, then there's the ultimate attraction, a bakery 1/2 mile up the road. A great spot . . . delightfully unique.
This was my 3rd stay at Riverhouse, enchanting as ever! Immaculately clean, well appointed airy overlooking the widest part of the Housatonic River. Sunsets are stunning, birds glide in and out. Easy walk to town or the legendary Berkshire Mountain Bakery. Only minor complaint: LR furnishings are limited and there's no comfy way to stretch out and read, except for in bed. This place has my heart.
We stayed at the Riverhouse for two and a half weeks this autumn. We loved the quite retreat but so close to a lot of great attractions and activities. Perfect choice for a relaxing getaway with options for activities when you choose. Great coffee just a hop and a skip down the road.
We stayed at the Riverhouse for two separate weeks over the summer. The view of the river is very beautiful and tranquil. The Riverhouse is very comfortably furnished and immaculately clean. It contains everything you need for an easy stay. Tanglewood and other venues are an easy drive away. The best croissants are a short stroll down the road. Riverhouse is the perfect choice for vacation.
DON'T RENT THIS PLACE...so that we can have it all to ourselves! Obviously, this is said in jest. We just loved the apartment. It offered a great view of Rising Pond through the picture window. Check out the great sunsets from the deck, read a book, have coffee there in the morning. Both bedrooms were spacious, the kitchen well stocked, the bathroom bright with many towels and the place was spotless. You are located in wonderful Housatonic, a quiet, quaint, yet central location. Have breakfast and maybe dinner at low cost, incredibly good Main and Pleasant. Drive 15 minutes to Beartown State Park/Benedict Pond, a great place to hike or swim. Make sure to stop at Holts Farm for fantastic sandwiches. You are 15 minute from Tanglewood and Lenox on low trafficked Rte 183, and minutes from the Rockwell Museum.
Perfect getaway to enjoy the beautiful and peaceful scenic Berkshires. The Riverhouse has all the comforts of home while still maintaining its character and history. It was great to open the windows and let the outside in. I especially loved the claw footed tub and the rustic feel in the bathroom. The porch overlooking the river gave us many peaceful hours observing nature at its best. Good location with wonderful bakery and pub house within walking distance. We definitely want to come back.
My wife had previously been here to this very house with her friends in years past and told me how wonderful it was, I said, yeah, yeah, yeah another house in the hills but, I joined her this time and, was she ever right and more. The accommodations are splendid to start, all the comforts of home one could ask for; well equipped immaculate kitchen, best pillow Ive ever slept on and A/C but, who needs A/C when you can just open the windows and let the cool sounds of nature lull you to sleep then wake you up in the AM with the sunrise as nature intended? The views from the deck over the river are spectacular, like Wild Kingdom Live -waking up to an American Eagle waddling on a sandbar (yes they waddle) looking for breakfast while enjoying a fresh baked chocolate croissant from the outstanding artisan bakery a half mile down the road; eating fresh cooked lobster on the deck at sunset with a flock of Canadian Geese landing in plain view; the nighttime sky is breathtaking, with all the stars on a clear night. Although they have it, we did not switch on the TV for a whole week - talk about making time standing still, that is instant therapy by itself. We did lots of nearby hiking with sections of the Appalachian Trail in reach, great little restaurants, the whole area has a small European town feel. We loved it and will be back to this very same deck chair as soon as we can. Unfortunately for her and her friends , my wife will no longer be able to come here without me!!
My family and I had a great time at this house. it was perfect for the 4 of us, one couple and 2 kids. the house is well equipped and located in a very sweet and special spot. My husband and kids were skiing and i was able to enjoy a relaxing time at the porch facing the water. What a treat! the location is also very good, i was able to walk to a great bakery and to the charming town.
Can't go wrong for a getaway to the Berkshires. Friendly owners, central location, beautiful view of the river, and walk to croissants in the morning.
we spent 2 weeks at this delightful, charming and very well equipped apartment. It had all that one would need in their own home and we truly enjoyed our stay. Looking at the river was relaxing and loved seeing the wild life and the setting sun!
Working with Bee and her family was a delight. They try very hard to give their guests clean, comfortable and worry free times in their units. If there is any problem, no matter how small, they are there to correct it almost immediately. My first concerns when renting are l) Cleanliness 2) Great mattresses. They had both. But in addition, the views of the river were gorgeous and the light coming into the upper unit was uplifting. Also, since Steve, the owner of the bottom unit, is an architect, it showed his and his wife's talents as the taste level was high, products superior, and their artwork which surrounded us was amazing. I don't want to make this review too spectacular or they will be rented before we can book again for next year! Carole
We spent a lovely Fall week at the Riverhouse. It is exactly as advertised, perched on the bank of the Housatonic River, with a great view across the river from the house and the deck. All you see are trees and water (and the occasional blue heron and bald eagle). Very comfortable, well-equipped and well located. Bee and her mother-in-law, who lives just down the road, were excellent hosts. We will be back!
Riverhouse offers a charming little a hideaway in Housatonic, one of the most interesting and artsy towns in all of Berkshire County. The two-bedroom 1 bath property is immaculate with a lovely kitchen and a killer west-facing view of the Housatonic River at it's widest point. Sunsets are enchanting as is the constant activity of birds over the river. The 2nd floor apartment offers AC (hardly necessary), tv and wi-fi. You can walk to the Housatonic Bakery -- one of the best in the United States, and to the little business district featuring the new Housie Market (shhh, don't tell, but it's the best breakfast in the Berkshires), Brick House Tavern, and to Main & Pleasant, a new casual restaurant.
My wife and I enjoyed nine wonderful nights at the Riverhouse during early October. We had been coming to the Berkshires for 30 years, but had never enjoyed it in this way - having a cozy and well-equipped apartment at our disposal - or this much. The listing accurately describes the apartment. It had everything we needed to prepare meals (when we were not sampling the restaurant life) or to relax. We would awake to the ever-changing, sweeping view of the Housatonic River, which we enjoyed from the picture window and from the deck. The water reflected the trees and the sky, and at night, the stars and setting sun. We looked forward to returning home after our daily excursions around the Berkshires, which offers far more than one can take advantage of in a week. Between cultural events, many hiking opportunities, interesting shops and galleries, and fall festivals, there was so much to do and see. We especially liked our tour of the Emily Dickinson Museum in Amherst and Olana, the residence of the Hudson River School painter, Frederic Church, near Hudson, NY, as well as the rail trail near Adams. We are already planning our return next year.
My hsuband and I really enjoyed our stay at the Riverhouse. Every morning we had coffee on the deck overlooking the beautiful Houstaonic River. The location is great for Tanglewood, Shakespeare and all the wonderful things we love about the Berkshires. We will defitinitely be visiting the Riverhouse again.
This was my first visit to this area and I was blown away by the view from the Riverhouse! I loved to sit on the deck in the evening and watch the sunset and the Canadian Geese come in to land for the night. The footed bathtub was perfect to soak in a luxurious bubble bath and gaze out to the river. I slept really well in the comfortable large bed with a big soft comforter to snuggle under. The weather was cool in June and a welcome treat coming from Texas! The kitchen was fully equipped to cook whatever you desired but with so many wonderful places to eat nearby it was hard to decide if we wanted to cook. Taft Market right down the road did have wonderful fresh produce and cheese though. The croissants at the Berkshire Mountain Bakery were to die for, and after trying them all, the almond was my favorite. I was told the take home pizzas are amazing as well. We explored the quaint towns nearby and Chesterwood was a delightful place to spend the afternoon. We had the most fantastic meal at the Old Inn on the Green where we dined by candlelight. I am already trying to figure out when I can return to check out all the places I missed. I highly recommend the Riverhouse.
The River House was the perfect girls getaway! The apartment was so clean and all of us LOVED the quaint charm and style of the place! We were a group of 4 teachers who were so happy to relax on the deck and enjoy the beautiful river view. There was loads of shopping and wonderful places to eat and grab a quick snack and a delicious breakfast. Mostly though we loved the deck...where we enjoyed wine, cocktails and a beautiful view! Thank you again for such a fabulous time!
We had a very cosy stay at the Riverhouse during a week where temperatures were close to zero. Despite it being an old house and right on the water, we were snug the whole while. The beds were very comfortable and we slept very well. And the full moon shining on the river ice was wonderful. The owner was very responsive and the communication prompt and helpful. The location is near to Great Barrington, Stockbridge, and Lenox so you can see all the sights in the area within a few minutes. Would stay again!
This is a great little house with a gorgeous setting - the deck overlooking the river beckons one to sit and contemplate, read, dine, chat, drink wine , bird watch ( we saw a resident eagle every day!). The inside is small but complete - two bedrooms with good beds and nice linens, good size bathroom, small kitchen and nice seating area with a great view of the river. The Berkshires area is loaded with things to do - we were there a week and didn't get to do everything we wanted. Tanglewood music fesitval was going on all week, the Rockwell museum, the Chesterwood museum (Daniel Chester French sculptor of the Lincoln Memorial), hikes up Monument Mountain and the Appalachian Trail - and so much more -took a bike ride between the small , quaint New England towns, great weather! It rained a little bit almost every day, but at a time when you welcomed it - sort of created a built in down time to relax. There were some really nice restaurants we tried, including a great bakery a short walk from the house -Berkshire Mountain Bakery - the best fresh croissants and homemade pizza to go... we went almost every morning. The accommodations were lovely and there is a lot to do in the area. Recommend highly.
