This working cattle farm, located on 36 acres with a panoramic view of the New Hampshire countryside, is adjacent to miles of trails for hiking or skiing. Stay the night and you'll want to stay forever at this magical farm on the hill. Angus, our resident rabbit, or Tazzy, our house pig, would love to visit with you in the apartment.
A full kitchen with dishwasher is included. We provide coffee, tea and cider; you bring the rest or purchase your food at the Country Store located on the farm. We don't sell alcohol, so bring your own wine or beer. The downstairs bathroom has a Champagne tub and shower, while the upstairs bath is a private bath to the master bedroom with shower. The apartment is private from the rest of the house.
We have miles and miles of trails for snow shoeing in the winter and hiking in the summer. If you want to snow shoe let us know. We'll rent you some gear.
New Hampshire Motor Speedway is just 2 minutes and Canterbury Shaker Village is 5 minutes by car.
All transportation is by car. The bus from Boston arrives in Concord, NH which is a 15 minute drive from the farm.
We have two TVs. One is connected to a DVD player (bring your DVDs) and the other has a VCR player. We have a selection of children's VCR tapes.
Guests may wander around the farm and, for a small fee, participate in farm activities such as cow riding, ox cart riding, horseback riding or helping with farm chores.
We have a Farm Store where guests can purchase locally sourced groceries including meat that was raised on the farm. We have bread, eggs, yogurt, donuts, milk, vegetables, honey, maple syrup, pies, pastries and more. All of it is local! You are welcome to order ahead to make sure we have just what you want for your stay.
Carole, Bruce and their staff were all welcoming, kind and helpful hosts. My family could not have enjoyed a vacation week on a farm more. My children (ages 8 and 10) very much enjoyed experiencing living on a working farm. They got to meet the animals, including pregnant Charlotte the pig and Angus the rabbit, who they often took out of his cage to play with. We hired Carole for horseback riding lessons, and she was a great professor. With her great expertise and love for children, my two children each learned how to saddle, mount, ride and trot. My children enjoyed riding the cows, a novel experience. The farm store has delicious foods and treats. The raw milk maple yogurt was my favorite indulgence. The guest apartment was freshly renovated and beautifully decorated - we felt at home and did not want to leave again. The attention to detail outfitting and stocking the apartment was impressive; we found everything we could possibly need throughout the apartment, including a full kitchen, books, magazines, games, radio and television. Carole and her staff recommended nearby attractions that were great for our family: hiking Mount Kearsarge, New Hampshire Telephone Museum, Mount Kearsarge Indian Museum, Polar Caves, Fishing at Clough Pond, McAuliffe-Shepard Planetarium, Squam Lakes Natural Science Center and Chuckster’s amusement park. Though everything I just wrote is fantastic, it's Carole and Bruce with all of their kindness, enthusiasm and friendliness who made our time unforgettable. Thank you very much. We will certainly be back!
We live in a dense urban environment so one of the hopes for this trip was to experience a completely different world. The setting was perfect - beautiful and peaceful - and the accommodations were wonderful. Everyone in our party loved meeting the horses, donkeys, geese, Charlotte the Pig, various Scottish Highland cattle, the dog, cat, and rabbit :) Our hosts were very warm and provided a home that we would love to return to for a much longer stay.
Carole and Bruce were wonderful hosts - we could not have enjoyed this New Year weekend more! The farm is located on top of a small hill overlooking the beautiful countryside of lower NH. The guest rooms included two bedrooms, a private (fully equipped) kitchen, a shared bathroom with a hot tub and - and this is was our clear highlight - a first floor fireplace room (Carole and Bruce were so nice to provide fresh wood everyday). We went snowshoeing and sledding, hiked around the farm and enjoyed the wonderful local food. It's a working farm inviting you to participate (if you like) and we really enjoyed this. I should add that the guest rooms were all freshly renovated and beautifully decorated - we directly felt at home and did not want to leave again. Even though all of those things are already fantastic on their own, it's Carole and Bruce with all of their kindness, enthusiasm and friendliness who made our time unforgettable. Thank you very much, we will be back without any doubt!
This farm was an incredible, classic New England experience. The working farm on site was absolutely beautiful in the winter. We loved walking around and seeing the horses, cows, dogs, pigs, and chickens out and about in the snow. And who can forget Tazzy, the adorable house pig who can visit the apartment nightly if guests want a visitor. The wood burning stove was a great feature and kept us warm and cozy. We also cooked steaks from the farm store which were delicious. The apartment has a small kitchen complete with all the essentials. Carole was an incredible host and made sure were comfortable throughout are stay. I feel that we had a full experience of the farm, while also enjoying some relaxing, quiet winter evenings by the fire. The apartment was very large with two bedrooms, an incredible value for the price. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing stay in a beautiful location complete with adorable animals!
We really enjoyed our stay on the Miles Smith Farm. The countryside location, surrounded by the Fall colors was very peaceful and relaxing. The apartment is very comfortable with a fire place, living room, and a very spacious bathroom downstairs. The hot tub is a great feature. There are two bedrooms, a bathroom, and a kitchen upstairs with a great view from all the windows. The owner (Carole) was very friendly. She made us feel right at home and even opened the farm store just for us on the morning we left. Visits from Tazzy (house pig) and Angus (rabbit) added to the country charm. Great hiking trails and good local restaurants are a short drive away. I highly recommend this location for couples and families.
